• Becky (5/5): Good location, but meh... - The location was easily accessible to all the major tourist spots, and it was at the top of the hill, closest to the castle and other famous areas, without being up at the castle. It's nice not having to hike the hill every day and by being right at the top. The Italian restaurant next door was fabulous! The loud street, and not being able to sleep without being disrupted at the very early hours. The restaurants and bars downstairs had early deliveries and wake you up by 5 or 6 am. There is no elevator and getting up and down the stairs with luggage is a nightmare. Our mattress was hard as a rock and our pillows were like using a piece of paper, even when we doubled them up and grabbed the extra ones out of the closet. The room has super tall ceilings, so the room doesn't hold temperature well.

• Tom (9/5): Great location and excellent facilities, but there was too much noise from the street for a good sleep. - Excellent location, comfortable bed, nicely furnished. There was a lot of noise from passersby on the street, which lasted until 3 AM on the Friday night we were there. (Our room was on the first floor, facing Hanover St)

• Sean (9/5): Great location and comfortable stay. - Beautiful, airy room. Warm and light. Spacious. Breakfast was excellent. All information needed to enter the apartment were received in a timely manner and very helpful. The floors were very uneven. The doors of other rooms slammed so loud at odd hours of the night waking us up. We didn't hear people which was nice. Just loud if someone came and went in the middle of the night. Also, things that happen in the back alley were very loud such as garbage collection in the very early hours of the morning. There was a light sensor in the back alley that would shine right into our window when a staff member from neighboring restaurants would go out throughout the night. Even with pulling the blinds down the light came through. It would be helpful to have curtains that would cover the whole window instead of just narrow for decorations.

Kuechengeruche aus dem Erdgeschoss dringen direkt ins Zimmer rein. Das Zimmer fuer 4 Pers (Grosses Bett, Ausziehcouch, runder Glastisch mit 3 Stuehlen, also einer muss stehen) ist insg zu klein.

• Annabelle (9/5): Sehr sauberes, zentrales Hotel. - Sehr zentrale Lage, alles fußläufig sehr gut erreichbar. Sehr sauber und die Betten waren sehr bequem. Liegt direkt an einer viel befahrenen Straße, daher vielleicht bei Zimmern zur Straße etwas laut. Unser Zimmer lag nach hinten, also kein Problem. Es hat keinen Lift, also für Leute mit viel Gepäck oder Gehbehinderung eher schwierig.

Added bonus is the lovely Hanover 71 Cafe on the ground floor. All the stairs to the top with no lift, however it’s good preparation for all the steps you encounter in Edinburgh

• Harrison (10/5): - The room was very spacious and extremely clean. Location was perfect, 5-10 minute walk in to the town. Staff was very friendly and able to store our language as we arrived early. Would highly recommend and we would definitely be returning. Was looking forward to having a lovely bath after all the walking but unfortunately we didn't have 1 in our room. But not a bad thing just personal preference. Also bed was a little hard for me but again personal preference. How ever this will not stop us returning.

• Vladyslav (1/5): It was a horrible experience - Location My fiancé and I booked this hotel for a one-night stay to celebrate our 5th anniversary. For those who don’t want to read a long review: I highly recommend finding somewhere else to spend your money. The main reason we booked this apartment was for the jetted bath. When we arrived in the evening, we realized the bath plug was missing, which meant we couldn’t use it at all. Since the hotel operates without any staff after 5:00 PM, there was no one available to help us resolve the issue. The room itself was quite dirty, with significant dust and hair in the corners. The bedsheet had a hole and several stains, and there was a large, unsightly yellow stain on the headboard. To make matters worse, the communication regarding parking was misleading. When checking out, I asked a staff member if I would need to pay extra after the initial 24-hour period. I was told the price would remain £15 and that I could simply use another validation ticket. This turned out to be false; I had to pay for every hour separately, which cost me much more than £15. Long story short: Our experience was very negative, and we were unable to enjoy our anniversary the way we had planned.

• Heida Lara (5/5): - Herbergið var rúmgott, hreinlegt og skemmtilega innréttað. Staðsetningin mjög góð. Engin töskuheymsla, þurftum að drösla töskunum á annað hotel þegar við mættum. Vorum á þriðju hæð og engin lyfta til að fara með farangurinn upp/niður. Mikil matarlyst leitaði upp í herbergið á morgnanna og hún var ekki góð.

• Sandra (9/5): Felt like we were staying at an Audrey Hepburn movie set. - Location was perfect. We were in town primarily for the marathon. It has a boutique feel. Very fresh, modern and classic all combined. Bathroom was spacious. We booked a room for 3 adults. The bed was comfortable for two. The hide away bed was less than comfortable and was a very very tight squeeze to open it up and be able to walk from one side of room to bathroom or honestly anywhere in the room. The red staircase was gorgeous but a shocking experience to lug suitcase up and down 😳
• Courtney (3/5): They need better communication skills and to inform guests about there being no cafe - Front desk lady was very nice when she arrived We were not informed that the hotel would be under construction while we were there. Online it was advertised as having a cafe there, which we were really looking forward too. When we arrived there was absolutely NO ONE there. We called (from inside the building) no one answered. All we saw was construction stuff everywhere and no cafe. Oh also be aware there is NO lift. We were placed at the very top floor with mt elderly grandmother and had to carry about 58lb suitcases up 5 flights of stairs (I will attach photo of stairs). The worst part I was charged over $850 for this.

• Erinn (1/5): Haunted - The central location was the only redeeming quality of this property. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. We experienced paranormal activity on night one of our stay. There is a sensor light in between the front door and the door into the bedroom. At 3am I was woken up by sounds of someone walking up and down the stairs outside the door. My husband checked and there was no one in the corridor or in the stairwell. 20 mins later the sensor light turned on and stayed on for at least 10 mins (it only stays on for 15 seconds after a physical presence turns it on, so this was incredibly bizarre that it did not time out let alone the fact that no one was there for the sensor to turn on). This freaked us all out and made for a very sleepless night. The spooky activity aside, I never left a sign on the door to make up the room the following day. Despite this, someone entered our room and did absolutely nothing besides drop a questionable plastic bag full of coffee and sugar sachets next to our clothes… didn’t actually refill any of the coffee/tea, dumped this bag and left. Incredibly strange.

• Lindsey (9/5): Great value and a lovely stay - Nice and central for our activities and plenty of space in the room, bathroom was lovely the only thing that wasn’t right was the bath not working properly but we were offered a breakfast as a result which was perfect for us and even if paying the breakfast is very much worth the money. Very generous portions and looking at the pricing it was incredibly reasonable for the money Nothing really, it’s a bit noisy because it’s on Hanover street so I’d ask for a room synth back of the property next time

• Kim (7/5): Great location and lovely building - Great location and lovely big room with high ceilings in a period building. Staff were friendly and accommodating. No on-site parking which is understandable given the location. Room overlooking Hanover St was noisy which meant disrupted sleep. If you arrive after 5pm when the staff have left for the day and you have a flat phone battery you may find it difficult to enter the property as you need to either access your emails for access codes or call an out of hours number for support to be able to enter the building.

• Chi Liang (10/5): Great stay and nice decor - The room was exceptional clean and big for my group of 4. The room decor was great. As there were drinking establishments along the busy main road, there are drunkards who would talk loudly at night and we could hear quite clearly. The bank opposite the hotel got its glass windows smashed by someone one night and the police came. But it is not a problem of the hotel, we are still pleased with the hotel stay.

• David (10/5): Hanover 71 highs and lows - Excelent location short walk to princess street. Comfi bed and beautiful big luxury bathroom. Love the decor in the room and bathroom. Loved the smell in the morning from the kitchen below wafting up to the room. Top floor of building with no lift and 4 flights of steep stairs. Windows shake when transport passes. Seats at table not comfortable. Water in bathroom takes time to come through and heat up, so be careful in shower you could get either no water or cold water, give it 5 minutes.
