Guest Reviews
- N515LFjanicef (2/5): Rubbish - Crap crap crap old depressing. Nothing nice at all. Dirty and unloved.
Good for scout groups, but not for a cosy romantic time. No luxury, things just yuk. Stained carpets, dirty everything. Gas rubbish to cook on. Water pressure non existent. Do not go there expecting a romantic or luxury time. Taps stuck, doors get stuck. Bins down the end of the road. Rubbish, rubbish rubbish. Be warned. Boring, cold, dirty, depressing.
- Kevin (6/5): - some maintenance is required at the property. There is no on-site management. our studio had a broken blind, the fridge freezer was iced up. One of the power points was faulty. The property would be 4 star if these minor items had not lowered the rating. Its a beautiful location and the studio was well appointed
- Lisa (2/5): - They cancelled on us
- Christine (6/5): - Bed is like sleeping the floor hard!
Poor communication but beautiful area clise to everything
- Patricia (4/5): - Whilst the property itself is what I would describe as Rustic and a bit rundown, the room itself was ok. Problems with wifi access 1st 24hrs. Note: If you book here make sure they send you the self check in details prior to arrival. Our booking confirmation said there would be staff on arrival to greet us - Wrong - No staff on site and we had received no check in details. After 3rd phone call managed to speak to property owner who said they had no booking for us and they could unfortunately only accommodate us now for 2 of the 3 nights of our booking w/- b/fast & asked us to pay them again direct off platform. What a mess. ( Note: For this stay, we had already paid LM for 3nights inc b/fast, 6mths in advance) We then spent over an hour with LM to try and find alternative accommodation but everything was booked out and nothing closer than 35min drive available which wasn't suitable. It was a nightmare. In the end LM cancelled the 3rd night and stated they will reimburse us for the 1 cancelled night, which they said would take 7 days to process. Hence, I Wouldn't chance booking here again.
- AuSqueezer (2/5): Got bumped/cancelled so they could get a higher paying customer a month after booking - BEWARE - We booked accomodation back in August for a stay in December coinciding with a "day on the green" concert. One month later the booking was cancelled by them saying " that they’ll no longer be open during your travel dates" have just checked online and the same accomodation is available again but the price has trippled. Greedy and Fraudulent
- Jeff (6/5): - Pro - excellent location re view, good size rooms
Cons - terrible booking system, owner has no idea what she’s doing re booking systems. Thank goodness for the excellent cleaner who happened to be there and was able to sort rooms out for guests. Breakfast was appalling, so cleaner offered pancakes!
Such a shame that owner doesn’t look after the place as it could be lovely. One cpl arrived and had no room despite having a printed confirmation!!
- carriepE2015SJ (2/5): Worst accommodation in the Barossa - Appalling. Stay anywhere but here. Never cleaned the room. One night no electricity. Worst shower ever used. Deceiving photographs. Small room. Interstate owners who did not help when called for assistance. Once they had the money there was no assistance.
- gourmetqueue (4/5): A terrible disappointment - Over the years I have had several very enjoyable stays at this small resort on the edge of the Barossa Valley. It was initially nicely set up and then very well run for a number of years.
However, my recent experience was very different.
My specific requests for information and timely confirmations were not answered because contact details for the resort were out-of-date, and we were substantially inconvenienced.
However, my major criticism is that unfortunately the resort has not been maintained.
The once attractive lawns, retaining walls, parking areas, pathways and gardens are now a messy desolate landscape. Even the vines were in very poor condition.
The units are run down, need upgrading, and were only serviced at a basic level.
It is sad that a once state-of-the-art resort in such a great location has deteriorated so much.
I cannot recommend it, and will not stay there again unless there is very significant renovation.
- 651fayb (8/5): Okay for 2 nights - Good location spacious house. Beds were comfortable but my husband and I had ensuite bedroom which only had a double bed and very small ensuite. Showers had poor water pressure. Lounge aircon did not work. House was dated but very clean. Enjoyed our stay for 2 nights. Other bedrooms could do with bedside reading lamps and some window fly screens had a few holes and in need of repair.
- Wayne (8/5): - Nice location in an amongst surrounding vineyards.
- Anna (8/5): - We stayed for 1 night in Lodge 1
PROS
- Quiet location (didn't see another person at all).
- Large, open-plan room with jetted tub.
- Kitchen had all necessary cooking equipment.
- Communication with staff was great. Very clear self check-in instructions, as well as follow up welcome email and check-out email.
- Very close to Tanunda which has everything you need. Plenty of places to eat and drink. Foodland is the local grocery store which is open 7 days.
CONS
- There is nothing within walking distance. You could walk to Tanunda but it would be along a dusty, dirt road with no path or shade.
- Approx. 2km's of dirt road to get to the location (as at Feb 2023). We had a hire car so it wasn't a bother but I wouldn't have wanted to drive it in my personal vehicle.
Yes the bed was hard, but I liked it. Overall a great stay and we would stay again.
- collypops (8/5): Good accommodations for the country - Booked in April for one night stay in October canceled on my one week out, explanation given was they were fully booked which made no sense.
After much discussion a cancellation suddenly appeared and were provided with an upgrade at the same price.
Room was good, mattress a bit hard, only real disappointment on the night a cow close to the accommodation that mood all night very loud, but you are in the country
I would suggest caution when booking.
- Subhajyoti (10/5): - Nature at its best..Saw so many kangaroos (mostly kids) playing near our cottage in the grapevines and enjoyed ravishing sunset from the property.
Absolutely quiet and peaceful with almost no disturbance. Can’t expect any better.
- TrudiAJ75 (2/5): They cancelled on us less than a week out - DON'T BOTHER. We booked 2 months in advance and less than a week out they cancelled the booking on use (we received the email when sitting at the airport on our way from Perth to Adelaide) with an excuse that they had over booked but when you looked online the accommodation was still available for the original dates. After managing to find more accommodation at short notice we had a great time in the Barossa but a few of the locals said they had heard this happening quite a bit with Blickinstal Retreat. So I wouldn't take the risk.
- terryann58 (10/5): Classic villa in beautiful vineyard setting - Lovely villa in a perfect setting amongst the vineyards of the Barossa.
Clean and comfortable with breakfast supplied for you to prepare.
Large bedrooms and bathrooms with a classic construction.
Beds were comfortable but mattress could be upgraded in the future.
- Peter (6/5): - The location and the unit itself were okay, but there were no towels in the room. When we realised this, all staff had left the premises. This was disappointing for our one night stay.
The amenities were all okay, although quite dated, and the bathroom and spa bath could use a good spruce up.
- Bruiser101 (6/5): Average with room for improvement - Reasonably dated building, but noting to complain about too much. Circa late 1970's decor but no leaks and reasonably warm and comfortable. For that, not convinced that the price per night was value for money but, first time in the Barossa Valley, didn't know what to expect.
Breakfast provided and was expecting packets of cereal but a nice touch was that there were eggs and tomatoes and bread to cook. Porridge, although packaged, was also provided, which was also a surprise. International Roast instant coffee provided was not as welcome a surprise...some ground beans for the plunger would have been heaps better.
Had an issue with the door lock on the second night and the receptionist coiuldn't get someone to fix it so we had to make do, which was not very good customer service and dangerous because we risked getting locked in.
A bit, but not insurmountable chunk, of work to do to bring it up to a high standard. Would be good to see it improve.
- 983aileenn (6/5): Not up to a very high standard. - The beds were very uncomfortable.
The place was very dated.
We had 6 people in our group, visiting the Barossa. There were only 4 or 5 mis- matched wine glasses! Rang to get some more, but couldn’t be provided!
Living room and bedrooms had no soft lighting, only bright fluorescent lights.
A coffee mug still had lipstick on it!
- Catherine (6/5): - Breakfast was good, bed comfortable.
- 309samanthaz (2/5): Don't book here - I booked two rooms for two nights for accommodation over the June long weekend. The accommodation was paid in full. A few days before we were due to arrive we were told that the second night's accommodation had to be cancelled, which was very disappointing. I was to be provided with a refund for the cancelled night's accommodation. After multiple messages, phone calls, emails, and a complaint to Consumer and Business Services, and two months later I am still waiting for that refund, with no explanation as to why it is not forthcoming.
In terms of the provided breakfast, if they are giving you two pieces of bread for toast, it is a bit scummy to give you one piece of bread and one crust.
Next time I will be staying somewhere that is locally owned.
- User3848 (2/5): 🫘 - The view is amazing but sadly the room was disgusting. When we got there all hairs were in the bathroom the oven was left completely digudting with a pizza tray Left in it. There plates weren’t washed not even the glasses. There was a cat that would come up against our window. There was no receptionist. We had other guest come into our house thinking we were the receptionist. There was dust everywhere. There was no fan in the shower. There were no outlets in our room either.
- Ron (8/5): - Beautiful view overlooking the Valley
- Q9722BBlindak (10/5): Very nice - Lovely accommodation and breakfast left in room. The only thing i can say, and its not a complaint, is that the tv should be on the wall opposite the bed so you can watch the tv at night time while snuggled up in bed
- Kris (8/5): - Great location. Generous breakfast provisions, but bring coffee if you drink it - they provide a plunger but no beans, international roast sachets.
- Harenut (10/5): - It was central to the region we wanted to be
- G4446IRbarryr (10/5): Bakinstal Valley retreat - The site is ideal for friends and families wishing to socialise in BBQ evenings and admire scenic rural sunrise sunset views. Great accommodation easy access to Barossa places of interest. Good value overall.
- KKGoldCoast (10/5): Great overnight stay! - We really enjoyed our stay - the self check in was a breeze, and our room (No 6) was comfortable and had everything we needed, including breakfast provisions of eggs, bread, tomatoes, juice and cereal.
Our room was very clean, and well equipped. The property itself was peaceful, and pretty to wander around.
We would definitely recommend a stay at Blickinstal!
- Gail (8/5): - Stayed for a couple of nights so it was very nice to be able to sit in the garden and relax. Very quiet.
- Bevan (10/5): - We have stayed at Blickenstall several times in years past - hence booked it again this time. We thought all facilities were excellent - and of course the surrounds were so restful. Very comfy bed, excellent shower, - loved it all!
Thanks , and we must return.
The Carsons
- TeamJaffa (8/5): Great short stay - My wife and I had a lovely rainy romantic weekend away in this secluded spot.
The units are a bit 1980's but are quite honestly delightful, well designed and quite spacious.
The bedroom, bathroom, loungeroom and kitchenette are superb.
Access into Tanunda is via a couple of back roads but easy o navigate.
All in all we had a lovely weekend away.
- Susan (8/5): - Beautiful place lovely and quiet
Bed was too hard for our liking
- Justin (6/5): - Beautiful surroundings. Management seems to have changed over the past couple of years. Don't expect any interaction with the host. Communication via email is great and check-in/check-out is done via code to access keys from dropbox. Simple breakfast provisions provided. Interior is a bit stuffy and dated.
- ghost_who_travels (10/5): NYE getaway - Spent 2 nights here with friends over New Year’s Eve 21/22.
Great location 10 minutes drive from Tanunda.
Was very hot on first day but AC worked well. Location amongst shady trees also helped.
Breakfast of bacon, eggs, juice, toast also provided was great.
- Rene (10/5): - Quiet, clean, lovely and welcoming.
- Daniel (8/5): Great Location - Ideal location just outside of Tanunda.
Nice and relaxing looking out over the vineyards.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Awesome getaway
- martyn (10/5): - Clean. Great breakfast supplies
- Kanguro10 (8/5): Lovely accommodation & fantastic service - Positive
From the moment you book, there was an active email communication with Christina (Manager running Blickinstal). She was very attentive and made our accommodation very special.
The studio was very spacious, and the bed was super comfortable. The self-contained studio has everything you need for a short or a long stay. Guests can use all facilities available in the retreat, and also the fresh produces. Wi-fi is not bad either.
The accommodation provides free breakfast (continental and hot breakfast) with fresh eggs, bacon bought on the day, fresh tomatoes, bread, butter/jam and fresh milk.
Christina left us a beautiful bottle of red wine from Blickinstal winery on our last day.

TIP
As you drive out from the Blickinstal retreat, turn to your left (opposite direction of Tanunda) and drive up for 2 kms, you will reach a lookout on the hill where you can park the car, and take fantastic photos of the Barossa Valley. The view from there is amazing.
- PaulS803 (6/5): Rural Living. - We have come to the Barossa for a three night stay. We have a studio unit, one of a group of six. ‘Studio’ sounds fancy, but it is really a 3* motel unit placed out in a beautiful country setting! We arrive and find the key in a locked box as instructed, and easily locate our unit. Uncovered car parking is a short walk from the unit. The setting is attractive with the front windows looking out over lawns and trees. Not however, the valley of vines shown in the advertising! This is an older unit with dated decor: dark stained timber ceiling, and darkish freckled cream brick walls. There is carpet on the floor. The main room is a good size and has a comfortable queen bed with electric blankets, side tables, a sofa, and a wardrobe which is not really usable - the door only half opens. There is a flat screen TV which can be seen from the sofa but not the bed. There are no table and chairs, so we are unable to play our board game! There are nice pictures on the walls and a small sculpture of musical angels. There is an air conditioner which has trouble keeping the unit warm (even when set on 30 degrees). (Admittedly we had a record cold night. The invisible Christina does provide a welcome second heater on our request; this keeps the unit snug.) The wifi is fast. There is a shortage of accessible power points for charging devices - a necessity these days. The en-suite is attractive with separated toilet, vanity and enjoyable shower, but a sliding door which does not slide freely. No heating: a heat lamp in this area would be most welcome. The kitchen is badly designed with fridge, sink microwave, toaster and jug, but no stove or hot plate. It has a cramped entry and a high cupboard which is likely to cause injury. There is an inadequately sized breakfast bar. There is no room service over our stay. On the positive side there is a good supply of soaps, shampoos etc, an adequate continental breakfast in the room, and a bottle of wine! The setting means the unit is absolutely quiet, especially as we seem to be the only guests! We are just a few kilometres from the township of Tanunda - quite handy by car. In summary, this is a pleasant place to stay, but in comparison with many others we have stayed in, one which hasn’t come up to my expectations.
- _lille4 (8/5): Bethany Bliss - Tucked away an a lovely hillside is this perfect retreat, ideal for a few days or more in the Barossa. We had a studio cottage, fine for a couple; there are other options. This was gorgeous, and the sunsets lovely. Set amongst the trees and above the vines there are great little walks and it is only minutes to favourite wineries such as Bethany or Turkey Flat.
Whilst it wasn't explained to us that there would be no welcome on site, the key lock procedure was no problem, although it was a bit bizarre when one of the other tourists become agitated because he had insufficient bacon and eggs for his 4 day stay. As we had no eggs/bacon at all, we were just surprised.
Breakfast was a bit light on, but we had been touring SA and had our own anyway, so no problem.
Although there was no housekeeping on our stay, it was rather nice being left to our own devices. It was spotless inside the studio and very comfortable. We would love to come back for a longer stay.
