Guest Reviews
- Gillian (4/5): - My stay was disrupted by badly behaved guests in the room next to mine. I had to go to Reception and complain about their behaviour twice. Upon my second complaint, a staff member called the manager who spoke to the unruly guests about the noise. They lied about the noise and when the manager returned to me, he began making excuses for them and turned funny with me! He became awkward and argumentative towards me, then spoke down to me in a very condescending voice before storming off. I do not expect to be treated so rudely when I have a valid cause for complaint. The Inn is beautifully appointed and the rest of the staff were lovely towards me. What a shame that the manager was so unpleasant.
- Glen (8/5): Nice place in the countryside - Staff were very friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast meals were tasty and plentiful. Room and bathroom were small and bed a bit too soft.
- Daniel (10/5): Really nice - Really nice place, with really good staff.
- Carrie (10/5): Beautiful Location - What a lovely hotel! I love the atmosphere - the way it is decorated is serene, and yet you can still see the age in the building definitely in a very well kept way. Highly recommend this hotel as the service was amazing, the food was very delicious and the rooms were comfortable and clean!
Thank you for a lovely stay!
- Andrew (10/5): - Amazing
- Cherie (8/5): Needs maintenance but friendly service saved it - We stayed in King Bed room which was comfy, large and spacious, it was hot so we opened the windows let air through, the bathroom had mould and grout needed to be replaced near shower. I had to clean the fan as all dusty. Room needs a good deep clean. We didn’t use the bath for daughter because of this mould. It was quite dusty when we arrived. The inn itself had a musty smell. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The breakfast was delicious and good value. Plenty of free parking. The inn is right next to a main road so with the windows open the traffic woke me up so had to wear ear plugs.
- Emily (10/5): - Staff were lovely and we felt really looked after during our stay. A particular highlight was the food - lamb, chicken and steak were all excellent.
- Linda (10/5): - Fantastic hotel, lovely staff, delicious food and central location to all the hotspots with a bus stop across the road with a regular bus service to and from all the hotspots. Room for 1 was clean and beautifully decorated but very small which meant that on warm sunny nights the heat builds up making it uncomfortable to get ready and sleep in, easy fix, needs Air Con or a decent fan as the ones in the room were inadequate, however would this stop me returning, absolutely not as everything else in the Kings Head Inn was first class. Special shout to Sean/Shaun who gave me some lovely scenic places to walk.
- Phillip (6/5): - The pub, staff and food were excellent. The bedroom was tiny and the on-suite even smaller. This would be difficult for those with mobility issues. You couldn’t turn the shower on without being in it. There was a small heater fan which was more than useless, although it was a hot weekend.
- Rose (10/5): - The hotel was near to Helvellyn for our walk, our third visit to this hotel. The staff were all very hardworking and lovely. The meals and choices were very good as were the bar choices. A lovely old building.
- Suzanne (10/5): Excellent stay - Great overnight stay.
I had booked a double room for myself and my neice as there was no twin available, but at check in they were able to offer us a twin which was perfect.
Breakfast was absolutely lovely, full English all cooked fresh.
- Mohkam (8/5): - Overall, it was a nice stay. The hotel is clean, well-maintained, and in a good location. The rooms were comfortable and housekeeping did a good job during our visit. Most of the staff were polite and helpful, which made our stay pleasant.
However, I did have a disappointing experience with the manager. I told him that I didn’t want a baby cot in the room because it looked dirty. Instead of understanding my concern, he questioned me in a slightly rude manner and gave me an unfriendly look. As a guest, I believe every concern should be handled with courtesy and professionalism, no matter how small it may seem.
This interaction left a bad impression, which is why I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5. Good customer service is as important as the property itself.
I would still recommend this hotel for its cleanliness, facilities, and location — but I hope the management works on their attitude and how they deal with guest feedback.
- Robert (10/5): - Beautiful location. Very friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): short stay in a beautiful part of the country - Not bad but could do with a good fettle now and again I didn't like the bird droppings on the bedroom window sill and the shower needed repairing.
- Anne (10/5): - Lovely old pub. The rooms great and clean but the beds were a bit bumpy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. On the first night, I had belly pork, which was very tender and tasty. The second night I had a burger, but it was dry. All in all, it was a great break
- Jonathan (10/5): - Lovely stay as always - great setting, great food and very helpful staff.
- Richard (10/5): - Lovelly spot to stay in the Lakes with very friendly and efficient staff. Will return
- Peter (10/5): - We stayed at the King’s Head because it is so close to the Thirlmere path to Helvellyn - just 2 minutes from the Swirls Car Park.
We really enjoyed it . Great location, excellent menu, lovely gardens and very accommodating and friendly staff team (and helpful too). Great range of beers and wines.
We wanted to walk early so we were given breakfast before official opening times, and they made us an excellent pack up.
Room was clean and comfy, nice bathroom and toiletries.
Thank you Peter, Jo and all the other colleagues who made our stay so good - it helped after a long walk or two! We look forward to returning.
- Graham (10/5): - Well looked after establishment this place. Staff very welcoming & always helpful and down to earth.
- Daniel (10/5): - lovely foor and location
- Terrence (10/5): - Lovely inn with excellent breakfast and dinner service. Rooms are well appointed and beautifully decorated and the outside seating for afternoon tea or a pint is wonderful. The area is stunning and delightful for a walk. Highly recommend this exceptional inn.
- Karen (10/5): - Helpful staff, great servers at breakfast, comfy bed, great views
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We had a lovely stay. The atmosphere was amazing, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The Inn is this amazing old building that’s creaky and has historical atmosphere.
The place is very clean. The rooms are warm and clean and the ensuite was clean, the road noise was dulled down by the double glazed windows.
The breakfast and meals were delicious.
The out door patio area is a great place to sit and meet others.
There is road noise but doesn’t take anything away from the lovely surroundings.
- Andrew (10/5): - Excellent hotel for a short break. Would stay there again.
- Eduardo (10/5): - Love that isnnear hiking trails and has good food and simple accomodation. Exactly what i needed whwn going there to hike the Lake District.
- Sandra (10/5): - Last minute booking but we will definitely return. Cosy seating area, lovely food, friendly staff and an excellent base for walking, particularly Helvellyn.
- Sachin (10/5): - Friendly staff and service, amazing food.
- Colin R (10/5): Great Accommodation - Great staff, good food, plentiful parking. A short distance to Ambleside and Keswick.
- Samuel (10/5): Comfort & good food. - Great place to stay for a night. Comfortable, cosy, clean, fantastic food - definitely recommend the lamb.
- peter (10/5): Lake District hills view - On way back from top of Scotland this was a lovely stop over, amazing views of the hills. Staff fantastic, food excellent good bar selection and a fab lounge with log burner for the guests. Rooms are perfect for what you need. Only minor gripe is the mattress on the bed was a bit tired and could do with changing. Overall fab place. Defo use again
- Andrew (10/5): - Lovely clean rooms and very friendly helpful staff. The food was excellent. Will be back in the near future.
- Richard (10/5): - Enjoyed the stay. Loved the accommodation. Good food and drink. Very good staff. Really enjoyed the music too.
- Chris (10/5): - Great pub in a beautiful position. Great food, beer and staff
- Alexandra (10/5): - Lovely location for access to all areas of the Lakes. Accommodation was clean and comfortable and the staff were all friendly and very helpful
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was great, especially in the restaurant.
- Christopher (10/5): Great Lakeland inn - Very friendly and helpful staff. Great shower in room. Food very good. Nice place to stay at reasonable rate in traditional Lakeland Inn.
- brian (10/5): - Quaint oldy oldy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay. - Wonderful stay, great base for exploring the lakes. Staff were very friendly throughout. Food was excellent.
- grace (6/5): - Lovely breakfast and good location. Upon arrival at 10pm Sunday night we were given a room that was very dated, the bathroom looked nothing like the pictures, the room smelt damp and hair was left in the bedside table and the bed was like laying on wood it was so uncomfortable instantly it put a downer on our stay as we drove 5 and a half hours and just wasn’t expecting this especially as it’s not a cheap night stay. This was disappointing I did try to ring reception but the telephone in the bedroom wasn’t working. I went down to reception straight away and complained and never got an apology and the gentleman came across very rude which also ruined the experience. The next morning he must of realised and he was very apologetic but it would have been nice for him to do this on the night of question and we wasn’t offered anything for the inconvenience of it all. The next morning we had changed rooms and was apologised too, we couldn’t fault the new room it was just sad that we didn’t have a nice arrival after a very long drive. We stayed for 3 nights.
- Alan (10/5): - Amazing stay really live this hotel. Clean, friendly relaxed atmosphere.
- John (10/5): - Stayed five days for the Keswick Convention.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for a stay.
Only 10 minute drive to Keswick.
Staff were excellent so friendly and service first class.
The room was spotless.
I will be back.
- Stephen (10/5): - Excellent hotel - lovely location and the breakfast was superb.
- Paul (10/5): Lovely - Fantastic stay, the quintessential English Inn!
- Lora (10/5): - Really enjoyed our stay here. Room was comfortable and food was delicious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very warm welcome - Stayed for 3 nights, lovely spacious bedroom very comfy kingsize bed, breakfast was delicious my favourite was the pancakes with fruit. Evening meals were also delicious, presentation and taste. Hotel is in a very central location not far from Keswick and Grassmere.

FANTASTIC
- Sean (10/5): Highly recommended - Super efficient, friendly, quality and good value short break. Highly recommended and I’ll be sure to return.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Spent two nights here to do some walking around Thirlmere and visit our usual Lake District spots (Keswick, Ambleside...) Perfect location for getting out onto the bigger fells and plenty of good pub food to refuel. The burgers are a must!
Staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome throughout our stay. I feel like we've discovered a gem of a pub in the heart of The Lakes. We'll be back again no doubt.
- Nicholas (10/5): Great stay - Fantastic B&B in a great location between Keswick and Windermere.
The staff were great and the food was fantastic!
- Matthew (10/5): Warm friendly hotel, ideal for a winter stay - Very comfortable hotel in great location with extremely helpful staff. Wide range of dinners availabe that were very tasty. Lounge area has nice wood fire. Only suggestion...it would be nice to have a coat hook on the inside of the bedroom door
- Paula (10/5): Wonderful Stay in Lake District - Gorgeous hotel and surroundings. The room had everything we needed and was cosy and peaceful.
Staff really lovely, welcoming and friendly. Great base for walks. We have had dinner almost every day in the restaurant. Relaxed and warm atmosphere. The food was really tasty and fresh. Superb breakfast and service with the most beautiful views over the mountains.
- Harry (10/5): Great stay. - Comfortable stay, very cosy. Staff were friendly. Good location. The food in the restaurant was fantastic. Would certainly stay here again and recommend to others.
- Cameron (10/5): - Lovely room, great staff and customer service, lovely menu for both Lunch/Dinner, I shall be back at Christmas and also have booked for July. I would really recommend to Friends/Family.
- Claire (8/5): - Fantastic scenery, oldy, worldly property. Friendly staff and excellent service.
- Daniel (10/5): Great relaxing hotel - Great greeting and and easy check-in. Food was great for dinners and breakfast, with very friendly staff.
Best part was the guests lounge with a warm log burner, perfect for an evening to sit and relax after hiking and dinner
- Elaine (10/5): - It is a lovely old building with lots of beautiful features. It is on a main road but the road is quiet at night, so no problem. There are bus stops outside, so easy to get to Keswick or Bowness. Food is really goid and staff are friendly and helpful.
- Mrs Jennifer (10/5): - Good and very friendly.
- jean (10/5): - Staff were so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were lovely and clean. Near to bus stop.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Overpriced and disappointing - Quite disappointing.
Staff service was fine, food at the pub was fine (albeit quite expensive), the included breakfast was fine.
I took issue with the room because it didn't accurately reflect the pictures on the website and I don't feel it was good value for money.
It was small (completely understandable in an old building but again, it was an expensive room), the light and road noise was loud, the bed was old and very uncomfortable, the pillows were horrid (uncomfortable and stained), all the furniture was sad or a little broken, the bathroom was tired and run down/mouldy.
We considered asking for an alternative room, but didn't get the feeling the request would be received kindly.
All of the above things are ok to deal with if the price per night reflects it. But this room was very expensive and not at all worth the money we paid unfortunately.
- Amit (8/5): - Location of the property is beautiful
- Kimbra (10/5): - The King's Head Inn is a lovely country pub with a high quality of service all round. Excellent food, friendly staff, superb settings, quirky rooms and a lovely atmosphere.
- Vickie (6/5): - The staff were friendly and efficient. The room was adequate but the en-suite was so tiny it was like trying to wash etc in a wardrobe. The doors to it should be modified to open outwards or concertinas. A small piece of soap would have been good on the was basin too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Two night stay at Kings Head - Lovely hotel, we had both breakfast & dinner both of which were good albeit rather slow for breakfast on the first morning.Suggest making cereal & fruit juice self service to let the waiter concentrate on getting orders taken & cooked food served.
Our room was very small but would try to get a larger room next time - it was a late booking, we have both come away with bruises on our legs from the bed base.
- David (10/5): - Lovely old traditional pub but superbly updated modern rooms. Friendly service
- michael (10/5): - Unbelievable food, huge portions and fantastic breakfast! The staff are very friendly and helpful, the room was very clean, highly recommend staying here
- Loraine (10/5): - Wonderful
- SUGURU (10/5): Cosy place - Cosy, comfort place.
I felt a sense of good history of the lounge, good fireplace made me peaceful feeling.
Having beer outside with the site of mountain was also fantastic.
I slept very well in a clean and white comfort room room.
Everything was so nice, I think I come back here again!
- Dominic (10/5): - Great location. Super friendly people.
- Nick (10/5): - Great hotel and the staff are always helpful and very friendly.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not worth the money - Room not the same as the pictures displayed when booking. It was very small with a damp smelling ensuite which was very small and dated. The furniture in the room was very wobbly and flimsy. The walls were paper thin, and we could hear the people in the next room, who woke us up really early the next day. Barely any room to walk around the bottom of the bed, without stubbing your toes on the base of it.
The staff are not very welcoming or friendly. We weren't offered any cereal at breakfast and they had ran out of toast. Tried to rush us at breakfast and were tidying up before we had finished. Very rude member of staff. Never got asked if everything was alright or a goodbye, thank you for staying when leaving - NOTHING! Won't be returning to somewhere you're not felt welcome at.
- Linda (8/5): Great couple of nights away. - Had a good couple of days at the Kings Head. The staff were great and friendly. The food was excellent as was the service.
- Randi (8/5): - A bit isolated, but dinner in the associated restaurant was good. Staff was excellent.
- Paul (10/5): Trip to Keswick - Went with 5 year old daughter and wife for a weekend break. It was really nice and they made the weekend really special. Food was excellent, sevice excellent and the location also was really good.
- Stephen (10/5): - Great area nice deco
- Sue (8/5): - Bedroom v small , shower room even smaller.
I am slim so anyone with weight may struggle in the shower.
Staff lovely amd v helpful
- Kate (10/5): Excellent - Amazing little hotel. Friendly staff, great food and lovely cosy rooms. I’ll definitely be returning!
- George-Emil (10/5): Amazing experience - Friendly and helpful staff, brilliant service, fantastic food and ambiance.
- bonny (10/5): - This is an outstanding property, very quirky and also beautiful inside and out. The staff were amazing. The food was lovely.
The views were so beautiful I didn’t want to leave. 10/10 from me😊
- Charlotte (8/5): Enjoyable Stay - I had a lovely stay at The King's Head Inn. Very welcoming staff and lovely food available for breakfast and at the pub for dinner. My room was a small single front facing, so you could hear the traffic form the road, but overnight it does die down. No noise from advent rooms which was a plus, handy location for Keswick and local areas. Would definitely stay again when visiting the area, good value as I found most places in the area more expensive as it's touristy. Thanks to the team for a lovely stay.
- Simon (10/5): Lovely - Lovely cosy hotel with nice rooms and good food. Friendly staff too
- Jonghwa (10/5): - kind staff, excellent breakfast, good location
- Peter (10/5): great location and offering - Warm friendly venue with excellent cleanliness and really good food quality. Great location for a variety of walks. Good range of drinks but menu a little limited although great quality
- Sylvir (10/5): - It was a cosy and comfortable atmosphere with lots of character and charm.
Beautifully decorated with modern bathroom facilities and excellent dining.
- Howard (8/5): Great, inexpensive accommodation to recommend - We booked two single rooms, which were compact but more than adequate. Compared to other hotels in the area, the cost was considerably cheaper, but no detriment to our stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel is very clean & comfortable. The staff were excellent, very polite , respectful & hard working. The food is excellent
