Guest Reviews
- Mark (10/5): - Lovely Staff, Very peaceful
- Adam (10/5): - The staff where amazing and so friendly the King's head pub was brilliant food and excellent staff
- Barry (8/5): - Understaffed on arrival. Had to wait 10 minutes to check-in as only one member on who was serving in the coffee shop. However staff were generally helpful.
Convenient location for both Keswick and Grasmere/Ambleside. Rooms very clean though bed was harder than I’m used to.
The continental breakfast was delicious with unlimited barista-made coffee.
I would stay again in the future. Very reasonably priced in a lovely part of the world.
- Lis (6/5): - The lady I spoke to on first arrival was very pleasant. I had informed the place that I was bringing 2 dogs, I was put in the very furthest room meaning carrying the extra doggy luggage took several difficult trips.
The room was ok except for the fact that it had no windows, just a skylight. So no view of the lovely countryside, in fact no view at all.
It was a very hot few days but the only fresh air came from the skylight. It was a precarious climb on the bed to open it. The noise from the traffic on the busy road kept me awake most of the nights. It was very loud.
- Hannah (10/5): - We loved it! Perfect for our walk to Ravens Cragg!
- Stephen (10/5): - Excellent breakfast. full English breakfast bookable at kings head (extra charge) but we did not need it.
- Denise (10/5): - Great location and nice room
- Oscar (10/5): - Very nice staff was lovely
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely little hotel, good base - Lovely little hotel in an ideal spot, not too far from Keswick, but far enough for quiet.
Plenty of walks near by and a good base to set up from to get around.
We did take our dogs, and the hotel was very welcoming.
The only issue we had was the car park was littered with dog poo and it was a battle to not stand in it. Had this not been an issue, we would have provided 5 stars all round.
- Simon (10/5): - Just thought it was ideal
- John (6/5): - Signs for disabled parking could be better. If you are looking for a large room you won't get it here, but it was the right size for us. Glad we were 'upgraded' as think original room would have been too small. If you have a disability make sure you say something as no lift.
- Michael (10/5): - Beautiful position, staff friendly and helpful ,room clean comfortable and well appointed, Thankyou ,best wishes Michael Whitehouse 😊
- Jennifer (10/5): Ideal for local hiking - Ideal base for a few days hiking, particularly in the area of Thirlmere & Helvellyn from Swirls. We weren’t in the hotel too much due to hiking, but more than adequate after a tiring day in the fells. Room was comfortable, if a little small (but there are different choices of room type, so you book for your needs!). Clean & well presented. Comfy bed, great amenities for drinks & snacks. Continental breakfast was ideal. Kings Head inn 2 min drive down the road & highly recommend for a post hike reward of beer & a good evening meal! Staff at accommodation were lovely, good conversation, professional, quick check in, always about if you wanted to make a purchase from the cafe. Would definitely recommend for the type of trip we had planned. One little improvement would be maybe the suggestion of some drying facilities for wet hiking gear….. it is the Lakes after all, we did struggle with drying our boots for the next day. Not the end of the world though and would book again either way!
- Neville (10/5): 2nd July 2024 - The only fault I would have is that the bed was uncomfortable and there was some road noise at night, otherwise everything was excellent.
- Sravan (2/5): - There ia not transport and no food in the hotel and for food v need to go to other hotel its far v need to wlak for 20 mins
- David (8/5): - Attractive property but rooms on the small side.Close to road so could be noisy in early morning.
- Cai (10/5): - The price is the best part. No bar or restaurant but cheap, clean and modern.
- Katie (10/5): - Lovely property, really enjoyed our stay.
- Luke (10/5): - Room was very nice, clean and comfortable. En-suite was a little dated however still nice and clean with good shower pressure and hot water. Very quiet surrounding area made for a peaceful nights sleep. Check-in and check-out was quick and efficient with friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast and parking was £13 extra, however for an extra £3 per person a full english was available a minutes drive down the road which was very reasonable. Overall a decent and recommended night’s stay.
- Olivia (8/5): - Nice location, very easily accessible. Nice cafe and lounge area. Would be useful to have dinner options but fortunately within walking distance to a pub.
- anthony (8/5): - property was fine, nice & clean... would stay again
- Gregory (8/5): - Great little coffee shop for drinks & snacks
- Gillian (6/5): - Wouldn't stay again a bit like a youth hostel. Told had room upgrade it was very small only window ceiling velux. Don't know what other room would have been like if this was an upgrade !
- Humayra (8/5): - Room was clean and spacious. Bathroom was small in relation to the room but overall okay - a few extra touches such as better toiletries would make the room that little bit nicer and feel less like a budget hotel.
The continental breakfast was sufficient - people with dietary requirements may struggle unless informing the hotel in advance. I enjoyed the barista made coffee in the morning.
Sadly Wi-Fi in the room was really poor but it’s unlikely you’ll be in your room for long periods of time considering the beautiful surroundings.
- Trevor (2/5): - There was a family staying there for a week with a new born baby and a toddler
The baby was crying at 1 o clock in the morning and first thing in the morning the toddler was stamping around and the parents slammed the doors shut
Above all that someone was bagging on the wall because of the noise absolute nightmare
The sheets were soiled i realised this when I moved the sheets the next day for the cleaner
- Alicja (10/5): - Everything was perfectly fine. The location was amazing, close to everything. The breakfast had a range of choices despite no hot food. The room was clean, the service was great. Quiet and relaxing.
- Daniel (8/5): Would recommend - Small but very pleasant and clean. Friendly and helpful staff.
- Steven (10/5): - Great place to stay , for a three stay it was great , location perfect . I would stay there again
- Gary (10/5): - Friendly, laid back atmosphere.
- Sylvia (10/5): Last minute stop over - Last minute decision to book somewhere and this came up fabulous location for the lakes, beautiful surroundings and the lodge was imaculate.
- Fathallah (10/5): Comfortable stay - Nice friendly comfortable stay. Upgrade option available at the very nice Kings Head Inn about a 5 minute walk down the road.
Good value as well
- Anthony (2/5): - Paid for a king size bed, only recieved a double which was very uncomfortable and says pet friendly but charges you extra for the privilage when you get there
- Kim (8/5): - Overall a nice stay. Staff could be abit more polite.
- CHRISTOPHER (10/5): Very friendly staff - The staff at the Lodge are incredibly friendly, and really add to the experience. I would definitely stay here again.
- Alison (8/5): Lovely short stay 😊 - Flexible on check in as we were after 9.30pm which was great! There was no info on breakfast times on the website or booking confirmation so I had paid for it, but had to leave the hotel before breakfast had started.
- Matthew (8/5): - Pleasant room, large tv, clean room. No issue with breakfast. Nice friendly staff.
Bed was a little hard, bathroom light went out, couldn’t work heating button and was stuck on hot.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Lovely place to stay with a great continental breakfast! Highly recommend
- Christopher (8/5): Not very good room - Everything was good but the room was small and no window in the room just a sky light where all we could see was the sky and no one came to top up the tea things or the toiletries
Continental breakfast was very basic and not a lot of choice
- Helen (8/5): Modern with great views - Views were amazing, location was great.
Very modern, almost had a hostel feel to it. It would have been nice to have extra touches to make it feel more homely.
Shower smelt a bit like a drain.
Staff were very helpful, and it’s a great place to go for walks.
Just two things to mention- it’s a cafe onsite (that is open til 9) rather than a bar/ restaurant, and they only serve a continental breakfast, if you want a full English you have to go to a sister hotel down the road, pay extra and they are very strict on times.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location and value for money
- SEAN (10/5): - We had a very pleasant stay. The staff were exceptional and the room was perfect for myself my partner and our child.
- jon amron (8/5): - A LOVELY PLACE TO STAY
BE AWARE THAT IF YOU WANT FOOD - THEY ONLY HAVE A COFFEE SHOP - DINNER IS A MILE DOWN THE ROAD IN A SISTER HOTEL OR YOU EAT OUT
(IT DOES SAY THIS)
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great experience spoilt by one member of staff - Beautiful place, clean, location was excellent. To be honest, only thing which spoilt it was the woman in the coffee shop. Very abrupt, following day she started showing attitude to my friend who stayed elsewhere and came to collect me and stayed for a coffee.
Amazing how an experience can be spoilt by one individual. Very hard faced, not sure where she was from but not English.
- Alison (8/5): Pleasant stay - Very convenient location for Keswick, clean and tidy and staff were extremely welcoming and helpful.
- Carolynn (6/5): - hotel stay was okay
staff were friendly
our room had a leaking shower, the bathroom radiator didn`t work at all.
it was clean and tidy
we had to use the pub up road for meals and a cooked breakfast as they only provide a continental onsite
- Norman (10/5): - Staff were excellent
- Marcin (10/5): A small hotel by the lake - Thank you it's nice and clean
- Paul (10/5): Quiet, off the grid. - Lovely friendly staff. Wonderful views great for walks
- Corinne (10/5): Lovely stay - Check in was easy and the guy was helpful. The cafe/bar area was clean and although shut at 9pm we were able to sit in reception and finish our drinks. Had breakfast at the sister hotel down the road. Would happily stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): 2 night stay - Room 10 was very clean however very small, mattress not very comfortable. Velux window left open and could hear the traffic on the a591 overnight. The staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was good. Dog friendly but the dog bowls outside hadn’t been cleaned or refilled for a while.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not the best place to stay if visiting Lake Distri - The property was small, functional and more like a guest house rather than a hotel. Definitely not worth a 4 star or 9/10 (hotels.com rating). The mattress was utterly flimsy and the shower head was also broken. The walls were thin and you could clearly hear people talking in the hallway.
There are better properties to stay at. Do not recommend this one!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not bad, but expensive for what it is. - Not a bad location as the views were quite nice and the parking is close by, younare however a drive from somewhere to eat out or have a cooked breakfast.
The room itself was quite comfortable but only comparable to travelodge or similar, but if you're staying in the Lakes you'll expect to pay a premium.
If staying connected online is important there is little mobile signal and the staff warned the wifi was hopeless in our room. An alternative network was suggested but also couldnt be accessed.
On the plus side the staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient.
- Conor (6/5): - The only issues we found were that the hotel wer not offering an hot breakfast option and also the soap despensors in the toilet/shower was broken
- Soumyajit (6/5): Not so good - Actually they did not give any soap in toilet and shower. Soap dispenser was broken. The room did not look like pictures. The room was quite old actually. Many scaff and mark. No hot breakfast. 1st morning they told us to walk for 5-7 minutes to get to a sister facility to get hot breakfast. We walked and couldn’t find any . They we again came back and ate some cold meat slice & cereal bars .
- E (6/5): Convenient but cold - The hotel was clean. The breakfast tray was a little random, but food if food. Unfortunately there was no light in the bathroom, which could not be fixed during my stay. There was also no heating in the room. Staff seemed friendly and location was convenient for exploring Keswick and surrounding areas but I would not stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great staff. Poor room. - Staff extremely helpful and attentive. The room was poor. Very bad quality bed, poor shower which was taped up to stay on the clip.
No coffee making or glasses in the room.
The wireless Internet was intermittent and barely usable in the rooms.
Breakfast in the nearby pub was included and very nice.
- MO (10/5): beautiful view - we enjoyed our stay with our new puppy in this lovely hotel.
we had a very easy check in. only thing is that we can't have dinner at the hotel due to Covid 19.
there is a place to walk for our puppy. the room is clean, good condition and very pet friendly as the floor is laminated rather than carpet.
- Edyta (8/5): - Beautiful place You dont have to drive at all Just few minutes walk to the lake
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Breakfast is only at 8.15 and should be more flexible.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly stay, perfect location for exploring the Lake District.
- keith (10/5): recommended - marvellous . Our stay did what we wanted
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff where friendly and helpful. The place has a intermit feel to it with it not being to big and this created a sense of welcome when you got back from a day out.
- Stefan (10/5): Great hotel and location with friendly staff - This place is really awesome, especially for the price. It's a great location, has very friendly welcoming staff, the rooms are clean, there's a small cafe style area serving snacks and drinks, it's perfect for our hiking trips. We've been here a few times and won't be looking elsewhere.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Solo traveler review - A good location if you want to visit the Winlatter or Grizedale forests as it's give or take a bit about halfway between each. It's also at the foot of Helvelyn and a nice circular route to the top and back can be planned from the hotel.
There is a pub nearby (The Kings Head) and they had an on offer on for 10% off food for Lodge guests. Be aware there is little else in the immediate area, apart from lots of walks and good views of course!
I had a single room, and was happy with the service and price. The large (and hot!) towel rail in the bathroom was very welcome for drying wet clothes.
The only change I'd make is to have a smaller bed or turn the bed against the wall to give a little bit more space in the room. (your own preference may be different).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Efficient and obliging staff;cosy, well equipped room; and excellent location
- Vicky (10/5): Great short break in lovely location 👍🙂 - We had a lovely stay at the lodge in the vale, the accomodation was comfortable, warm and very reasonably priced. The staff were really helpful and friendly. We are definitely going to stay again.
- Claire (10/5): New Year break - We have stayed with this hotel similar time last year but came back just before New Year, this being the reason we returned, the comfort and friendliness of the staff and everything about this hotel is greatx
- Verified traveler (8/5): Welcoming staff, very clean! - The lodge was very clean and the staff were very welcoming. The only thing I would say would be that the WiFi connection was quite poor plus I had no signal so accessing the Internet was fairly difficult! Other than that it was lovely!
- Klaudia (10/5): All Great!!!! - Great place very friendly staff and definitely l will recommend this hotel also l was able to take my dog with us l had lovely Christmas time there
- annabel (10/5): Little hidey hole cant fault it - Amazing stay just what we needed away in the peace of the lakes but not to far away from keswick or down the road to ambleside / windermere. Great service and really helpful cheerful ladies on the front desk and by reading the reviews people saying it was cold in tbe room absolutely cant believe it. So so warm after a walk out in the rain
- floyd (10/5): Great VFM, lovely staff - Ridiculously cheap which made me suspicious but it was absolutely fine...would definitely stay again.
Really friendly staff - because I was leaving early, they left me a packed breakfast with a lovely message - made me smile.
No evening meal available, but they pointed me in the direction of a really nice pub within a mile
- Verified traveler (10/5): - If you are looking for something quiet and unusual that’s the place. Beautiful walks around.
- Paul (10/5): - Lovely location and very friendly staff. The room was a bit tired but comfy and clean.
- Michael (10/5): Late September stay - Excellent friendly and helpful staff made the stay a joy. Only niggle is that there is no mobile network available but that is not the hotel's fault.
- MR (8/5): Clean and friendly, but rooms a little small. - A clean and welcoming place to stay with excellent friendly staff. The accomodation is dog friendly but sadly, the rooms are far too small for a medium sized dog and two adults.
Breakfast is the only meal available so you have to look elsewhere for an evening meal. There is nothing in the immediate area so you will have to drive to get somewhere that serves meals. There is a Hotel five minutes drive away you can go to.
For those who require mobile communications, forget it. There is no service on any network - which maybe isn't a bad thing. Although there is free WiFi available, I could not get my Android tablet to connect to it, so planning for the following day's activities had to be done the old fashioned way, using a map book.
All-in-all, it's not a bad place to stay for a couple of nights.
- Cheryl (8/5): Perfect if you like to shower in the space of a ph - Nice, clean little hotel in a beautiful location. Service and food was good. My only complaint would be the shower. It was one of those phone booth types with very little room to move around in. Other than that our stay was very nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - very nice place, I would recommend it to my friends
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff are so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely stay again
- Nik Shahril Annuar (8/5): - Functionally pleasant!
- Jacqueline (10/5): - The location is great. The staff are friendly. Professional.
The drying room is a great bonus. After a day out walking.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - What a wonderful gem, tucked away and great quality!!
- G Mark (8/5): Good place to stay, we'd go back - We had a great time (other than the weather, and it mostly only rained when we weren't out walking!). Friendly and helpful staff, and good, if basic, accommodation. Only three (minor) comments - strong smell of bleach in the room when we arrived - took a couple of hours to dissipate. For our room, the only window was a skylight. Difficult to close our room door without slamming it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Ideally situated for all the places we wanted to visit in the area. Only dislike was the noise from the road next to the hotel
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Modern, clean facility with great breakfast options. Bathrooms are a bit small. Wifi does not work in Room #5 and there was no AC on a very hot day.
- TREVOR (6/5): - Although the hotel appears to be modern, it needs a deep clean, not just daily cleaning. Our biggest concern were the number of flies crawling over the breakfast buffet food. We did point this out on site but nothing was done, surely it can be covered.
- Paul A (8/5): Reccomend - Beautiful place in agreat location.
Building and rooms are very clean and well looked after, staff are all very polite and helpful.
The only downside was the lack of bar, always nice to wind down with a cold pint, but the nearest pub was a drive or 15 minute walk away.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Property was situated in good location and great views.
- Diana (8/5): Lovely lodge in beautiful setting - Really nice place in a quiet beautiful location. Nice amenities, great shower. Could do with a better WiFi on the a outside of the property on the lovely teracce.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Flexible on check in when we were late to arrive. Easy modern facilities. Uncomplicated and easy. Bed was a little hard but that might just be my taste. Highly recommend overall.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It's a lovely quiet place for stay in the lakes. Very helpfully they can provide a packed lunch for when you're out on the hills.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel is clean and lovely. The staff is nice. The room amenities is just fine. The breakfast was frugal and fit for the purpose I'd say. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, which is fine. My only negative comment would be the heavy smell of animal feces in the vicinity.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Love the location and ambience ! Hotel itself is amazing!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, staff, wi-fi, discount at the local pub..
- Mark (8/5): Modern hotel, pleasant rooms and minimum service. - I managed to get a Easter Sunday stay here on the morning of the booking.
The modern, clean and spacious room would make me want to stay here again.
The girl on reception at dinner time and the following morning was very pleasant and helpful.
Her colleague who was on duty after tea, was more of a law giver.
One area of conflict was that I was supposed to provide a credit card to confirm the room, when I'd already paid for it and had the room confirmed. I took cash on this trip, so I'm glad they made a reluctant allowance, as being quoted the term & conditions along with throwing me out, would have infuriated me.
Hence make sure you take a credit card and make sure you take your key with you as there is no-one on site after 8:30pm to let you in the hotel.
The breakfast, which was only £5 extra was a continental breakfast, so don't book it if you want a full English. The fresh fruit, croissants, toast, coffee and juice however, made it good value and I topped it up with Egg's Benedict later, in Keswick.
The hotel doesn't do evening meals or dinners and I never tried the recommended pub a couple of miles away, as there seems no point, when Keswick was only 4 miles away.
The Wifi in the hotel was good, but there was no mobile reception in the room, but hey welcome to the Lake District.
- Catherine (10/5): - Another lovely stay at the Lodge. Really nicely maintained, friendly and super location for some good walks.
- Susan (8/5): GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY LODGE - very warm welcome and staff were excellent - room was basic but comfortable - disturbed at night a little bit by doors slamming as these were on hinges and people did not shut them quietly - shower was powerful and rooms were kept nice and clean - continental breakfast was good.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - A hotel offering a room in the most beautiful part of the country with no window!! Given another room costing my a further £80 which had no heating and had to use a fan heater that was noisy and kept me awake. Couldn’t hear the TV over the fan.
No gluten free or lactose free options for breakfast and still charged full price.
Family room bathroom resembles care home facilities
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Liked cleanliness. Liked good easy car parking. All basics covered. Two good pillows each. Excellent powerful shower ensuite. Decent towels. Cheerful helpful staff. Boost option for heating.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This was a great place and would definitely stay again.
- Marion (6/5): - Fine .
