Guest Reviews
- Grace (3/5): Not a pleasant experience - Sadly, the room was very basic and the bathroom was a shared bathroom down the hall. It was not what was expected.
I understand that the booking mistake was ours but we double checked all accommodations after as we didn't want another night in such circumstances. The room was tiny, the bed was made with sheets that were still all wrinkled from the clothes dryer. The carpet is not clean. The bathroom was down the hall and to be shared, which we did not use, but had a wash using the basin in the bedroom.
It was our booking error that we did not book the room with an ensuite.
- Jamie (8/5): - Good central location. Clean rooms. Easy check in / out process. Bed sagged a lot. Not the most comfortable but not enough to be an issue. Acceptable for the price.
- Julie (10/5): Great stay will be back. Staff great. Restaurant specials a winner. Facilities great. Well stocked kitchen. Hot showers - Friendly Staff. Good food & happy hour was great. Good location. Very nostalgic pub. Lots of history. Leaving .. lol
- Peter (9/5): - Affordable Tv didn’t work
- John (7/5): -
- Stefanie (8/5): Exceptional esspecicallg the food from the restaurant - Great family room. Very clean with everything you need
- tim (5/5): -
- Tineil (10/5): Excellent overnight stay - Easy to communicate. Easy to locate. Genuinely nice staff. It was exactly as expected. Nothing to say negatively.
- Petar (10/5): I've stayed here 4 times now, I will definately be back - a great Australian country pub
- Petar (10/5): Very enjoyable country pub. - I love this pub. Good food really cold beer very friendly staff. The room is great value for what you pay. I’m a return visitor and I’ll be back.
- Geerkins (7/5): No frills, no fuss, easy, quiet, and affordable! - Plain and simple and priced right. Did the job. Located close to most things, Very happy, not many like this left! The Veranda was a bit neglected,, did not impact my stay
- Tim (3/5): - Could park MC in secure beer garden overnight. Noisy old fan, noisy old AC. Filthy balcony with cast off old furniture and equipment stored outside door, smelly pillows.
Initial room offered had hotel ac compressor outside on balcony next to door, had to ask for change.
Loud truck traffic on street so couldn’t open door for fresh air.
- Eddy (8/5): Great for overnight stay - location bed
- Michael (9/5): Just what I needed - Location and price . Spotless bathrooms , kitchen and tv area The mattress was pretty tired . Needed a new one really
- Petrovic (10/5): - Central location, good price, staff friendly and verandah to smoke on, outside our room No side table or lamp in room
- Harkirat (1/5): -
- Steven (3/5): Wouldn’t send anyone to stay ther - Not much Cold ,no hot water,no parking
- Otto (8/5): Basic, but packed with old-school rustic Aussie charm. - Not a flash place to stay, but so full of character. This was the first time I`d stayed in an old-school country town hotel like this and I was so glad I did. You really do get a sense of Aussie nostalgia, from the wide wooden verandah scattered with mismatched chairs and tables, with big rigs trundling past throughout the evening, lit up like Christmas trees, to the communal room with its worn, faux-leather armchairs and amateur landscape paintings on the walls. Nice. Our rooms were simple but clean, quiet, and perfectly adequate. Unfortunately I didn`t get to enjoy a drink in the downstairs bar - it also looks like a classic, character-infused Aussie set-up. Next time! The restaurant looked good, but by the time we`d checked in, dumped our gear, and rocked up for a meal, we`d missed last orders (8:30pm) by 5 minutes. Even so, I thought they could`ve offered us something, but no. Anyway, we got Chinese from down the road, and had it on the upstairs verandah by the open windows, watching the trucks pass, which was actually a great way to wind down after a long day of driving.
- Sajeewa (8/5): -
- Tim (1/5): next time ill stay in a tent at the caravan park - close to everything shops takeaway ect the bed was old and worn out rubbbish under bed no tv aeriel so tv didnt work aircon didnt do anything at all
- Playford (7/5): - Location, staff, food and the price. It was comfortable, but the only thing would be the noisey old aircon.
- Ross and Joy (6/5): Very average. Won’t be staying there again -
- Mitchell (1/5): -
- Erelyn (7/5): -
- Keith (9/5): -
- Alexis (10/5): I was glad there was a vacancy for me - The location was central staff were kind and helpful a nice place to stay pleasant decor very clean That the power points in my room were up so high needs a small shelf or stand...
- Judy (5/5): It was a bed for the night - It was low cost so I didn't expect too much. A blind on the window/balcony door. An power block hanging over the tv. Obvious signs of a previously leaking tap
- HAYOUNG (7/5): -
- Natasha (1/5): - The food was good The bed was broken, the staff member that served us for the room was unprofessional and rolled her eyes when I said we were staying
- Trent (7/5): -
- Sudhanshu (8/5): - All good
- ndrew (4/5): - The bistro took 40 minutes to serve my entree. The entree came with the main meal.
- Mark (8/5): - Only thing wrong no power point in our ensuite but other than that food excellent every else fine
- Steve (6/5): - Fairly basic accommodation but well priced
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Broken vanity in room, when sitting on bed i hit the floor, dirty everything, bathrooms appalling
- Nick (8/5): - The pub was okay, food was good. Easy to find.
No hot water for the shower.
- Truus (4/5): - Very noisy!!!!
- David (10/5): - Comfortable, value for money, friendly hosts plus great dining room downstairs in the bar !
- Graham (8/5): - Traffic noise
- Luke (8/5): - The facilities were great, friendly staff recommended for sure.
- Mark (6/5): - Great location, great food and bar service. Room was average poorly appointed. Good shared bathroom facilities.Truck noise is tolerable. Excellent bakery opposite for morning coffee, sandwiches and cakes.
- Jacqueline (10/5): - A beautiful old pub. Clean and tidy with a great bistro.
- Ray (8/5): - Booking online was simple. The place is easy to find. Parking is in the main st in front of pub. The oub has been refurbished. All facilities were available if not in the room it was in the common areas. I heard no noise from downstairs or people walking down passageway. The shower was good. It had a through wall AC unit which was noisy. I upgraded from a queen bed room with shared showers to a room with an ensuite. The manager charged me $40 for the upgrade when if I'd completed it online it would have been $20. I only used plastic cards in the pub so i didnt need to check my change with each beer or dinner. The food was ok and it appears many people come in to eat there. Id recommend you book online to stay there.
- Samantha (8/5): - First time staying in a hotel above a pub. Has great history and beautiful building. We would definitely stay again!
- Joelleen (6/5): - No internet (even though the booking said there was). No elevator - all rooms upstairs. Shared kitchen (could use a cleaning).
- Michelle (10/5): - The staff were lovely. I loved the old Hotel I felt safe and welcomed.
I would have prefered my room to have its own bathroom but I had a wonderful stay and will be back 😀
- Grant (4/5): - We were really disappointed with our stay. While the room was large and had an ensuite with shower and toilet, there were a number of reasons why we wouldn't stay here again. The beds were very old and overused. The sheets appeared dirty and it felt as though they had not been cleaned from the previous guest (blood on one sheet). We purchased sheets from Woolworths for the kids beds. The water in the shower was almost cold. The air conditioner and wall heater were both tagged as failed. TV remote was faulty.
- Kerry (4/5): - The hotel is central and the meals are great. The accomodation side if the bussines is dirty and poorly maintained.eg no dishwashing equipment in the shared kitchen.
- Paul (4/5): - B- double Truck movement noise until 1.30 a.m and all day through the Main Street of town.
- karen (8/5): - Fun atmosphere
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not wonderful - We like staying at Aussie country pubs, but unfortunately this was bit too noisy (B-Doubles all night) and untidy on the whole for us. There are some rennos going on (eg painting and room decor), but bed was spongy and cleanliness an issue.
- Jacqueline (2/5): - First room was filthy. There was still hair everywhere and had obviously not been cleaned.
Second room, although clean was not much better. It was cold, there was no heating or even a blanket on the bed.
Staff were lovely and very friendly and helpful
I know it is budget accommodation, the room should have been at least cleaned to present a COVIDSafe environment.
- Gordon (8/5): - We only stayed the night. The room was very cheap and definitely needs a makeover. In saying that the room was clean and comfortable, the beers were cold and dinner was very good.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - When you check in you have to walk into the bar to check in. This hotel is dirty, the room was dark, smelled like urine, there is no ventilation, there is a door opening to a common smoking veranda, there was brown stains on the bedding, the pillow cases were brown, nothing had been cleaned, the carpet has not been vacuumed, the room looked like it was never cleaned. We had to discover that the common bathroom was so smelly it was like something from a horror movie. We only stayed for a few minutes then I had to walk out of the hotel as the smell in the room was so overwhelming that we ended up sleeping in the car that night as all there was no accommodation left in town. What a massive let down. Lastminute.com should take better care before accepting accommodation for only bookings
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Booked a room with private bathroom. Given room with no bathroom. Manager rude
- Garry (6/5): - A beautiful old building and a good meal unfortunately not kept well
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Ok. So we knew it was going to be basic but it was unclean and basic which is not a good condition. Bedding was awful: Stained, mysterious hairs found in one bed, blankets held together by tape?! Most of the power points didn’t work. One room had no fan (there is no aircon) which was not very comfortable on a summer night. Shared toilets had no hand soap and ran out of toilet paper. Also very noisy with trucks braking for the roundabout immediately outside. On a positive Note the staff were super friendly and the downstairs dining was delish.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointing. - Good points: convenient location. Inexpensive. Restaurant downstairs was good. Bad points: original room was dark and dirty and very noisy with trucks passing outside all night. Changed to a brighter and quieter room, but hotel is poorly maintained overall. Leaking taps, unemptied bins, no toilet paper in one of the stalls, broken lighting, furniture and fittings; cobwebs covering the stair bannisters and unvacuumed floors. It wouldn’t take much effort to make big improvements here, but with lots of competition from motels nearby, I’m not sure how much more business it would attract.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No hot shower. Sink drain was blocked in the room.
- JackieBrown (6/5): - Need a good clean. Taps leak drains blocked, rubish on balconies
- Verified traveler (2/5): - They double booked my room and I forced to seek alternative accomodation.
- Solo (6/5): - Great water pressure in shower, but most amenities and overall property condition needs a revamp. This place has the potential to be charming again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Fantastic friendly and helpful staff
Fine and well enough for a nightly stop over
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Rooms need a Reno shower and basin need updates
Curtain need changing. It was a very hot day and the air con was useless
- Jan/Jackie (8/5): - A large broken window pane in room, and obvious that area behind sofa bed needed better cleaning. However the cleaning staff appear to be overworked and are doing the best that they can. All of the staff were very friendly. It was great having our own en suite, plus we had unlimited access to the shared customer kitchen. Our 2 for 1 meal on Tuesday night was very enjoyable and we had fun at the open mike night on Thursday with the wonderfully versatile and talented staff members, Bertie, Jenny and the singing barman. Adam, the hotel's owner, was very pleasant and obliging. The hotel is in a perfect position in the main street and is very handy to everything. We will definitely return for a visit
- Karen (6/5): Old Fashioned Hotel with nice features - This was an old fashioned hotel with shared kitchen, lounge and bathrooms. The attached pub had truly excellent meals. Service was fast and pleasant. The hotel is located on the Main Street and close to everything. A small room heater was provided when requested. Our room had a ceiling fan as well. We were warm enough and the bed was comfortable. The only downsides were that the lights in the toilet didn’t work and overall the lights in the bathrooms were on a timer and went out as I was having a shower. There were a few basic maintenance issues in the bathrooms but overall it was a nice stay. We didn’t hear the traffic after a little bit.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - will chalk this place down as an experience to never have again. The rooms need a lot of work, it was cold and draughty and road noise was too much.
- Dannielle (2/5): One night stay - Booked a double and sofa bed room on expedia. They had no clue about it when we arrived, went to give me a room with 3 single beds.
Food was not nice - parma and Kiev both over cooked. Lamb chop cut unidentifiable and not cooked well. Even beer tasted stale.
Our daughter left her digital watch in room - fitbit charge HR - (definitely- tracked/synced to bathroom this morning) rang to ask about it, cleaner stated and relayed back to us that she didn’t see it.
Not interested in helping one little bit. Refused to go back and check bathroom on request.
I believe our 12 yo daughters loss has become someone’s gain.
- Bela (10/5): Feels like a true country experience. - Family of 4 (2 chikdren aged 8 & 10) from Sydney. This was our first road trip through Aussie country towns for the July 2018 school holidays. This hotel provides a great hub from which to start exploring the local township and all that Coona has to offer. Staff were so friendly, room is roomy with fresh new linen, heating/cooling and polished floorboards. Bathrooms are clean and shared (sharing was not an issue as our room was close by). Beautiful sun drenched balcony to sit and have coffee in the mornings.
Coonabarabran is such a charming town and the Imperial is perfectly located. Good coffee nearby, Woolies, library, park and even a friendly barber downstairs! I felt safe and welcome and my kids felt free to explore.
CITY FOLK: Coona and our farmers are going through a major drought, yet everyone is so cheerful and helpful. Our farmers need support! Please consider an Aussie road trip through our country towns for your next holiday. Everybody wins!
- Kaitlin (6/5): Full of character and dreams... - The Imperial is one of those grand old hotels that saw their heyday in days of yesteryear.
There is the requisite portrait of a very young Queen Lizzy upstairs in the hotel quarters and the long wide verandah that wraps around the front of the hotel has enough space to dream on, sit and watch the main street or play racquet ball if the mood took you.
The staff are friendly and if you move into the groove of this place, (it isn't central sydney peeps) the people and the surroundings shine.
This place is not for the precious, the princesses or those lacking an imagination.
The accommodation reminds me of a ramshackle old share house, full of rooms of different characters. Some have been given a very modern and chic make up, others are a little less fancy.
The light in the ladies toilet and shower room probably does need to be fixed soon, but there's such a relaxed vibe here, it seems almost fun having the phone as the only source of light by which you tinkle.
There are touches of thought and artistic arrangement, someone here has an eye and has made the best of what is there... the bones of this place are beautiful. It was a truly imperial place back in the day, and the pace and patina of that time still echos in the place.
The bistro serves hearty, delicious and generous food. Tuesdays and Fridays offer a 2 for 1 deal, which is an added bonus.
This hotel is a little like life, how and what you get out of the Imperial depends on what you put it.
- Ruth (10/5): Two nights at hotel. Stayed in room with ensuite. - The hotel is huge with great pub food and affordable drinks. We stayed upstairs in a room with an ensuite. Everything was clean and tidy. The pub is well used by the locals and the only improvement we would suggest is to upgrade the bed. It was way too soft and my husband and I rolled into the middle. If the bed is improved it will be great value for money in a wonderful old building.
- Martin (4/5): - Small cramped room with no facilities, all you can hear are air brakes and Diesel engines as the trucks slow for the roundabout outside
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very enjoyable stay in an old historical hotel - Lovely old hotel with good kitchen facilities (fridges, freezers, tea, coffee), and TV lounge. Single rooms do no have a TV, but I was upgraded to a room that had one. Convenient for shops etc, and walks around town, plus wonderful drive to the astronomical telescope station. Nice helpful staff, and easy parking on the streets. No Wi-fi
- Jessica (2/5): Bogan’s shouldn’t run businesses - Bad customer service. Description of room did not match the room. Cockroaches. Charged for 2 nights despite only booking for one.
- Gordon (8/5): - Nice hotel in the middle of a long drive. We arrived on a Sunday and the hotel dining area was closed but there are lots of other places to eat nearby. The bar was open and the beers were cold. We had shared amenities which are clean and close to the rooms. Our room was very quiet which was surprising as the hotel is on a highway and a lot of trucks pass by.
Not impressed with hotels.com on the other hand. When we arrived we were told that the room had been cancelled by them the day after we booked it and had failed to inform us. They told the owners that they had sent us an email although a few days before we arrived they sent us a reminder about our upcoming stay and on the day we arrived an email to rate our check in.
The owners were very helpful found us a room and everything worked out well.
- Royce (8/5): Very old hotel - New owners are updating rooms and facilities will be good when finished. A whole lot better than it was a few years ago.
- vin (6/5): - It is fine for the money paid. However, on Saturday nights, there are bands playing in the pub downstairs, and the loud music can be heard and felt in the room where I stayed.
- Anon (8/5): Great hotel, right in the heart of town. - Lovely friendly staff at a nice country pub. Perfect for visiting for Court, which is why I was in Coonabarabran.
- Joybell (8/5): Nice hotel . - Luckily we rang ahead and got the only room with an on-sweet. On Arrival the staff were very pleasant, we were shown our room and was very pleasant . Later we went down to the restaurant and had a lovely
meal. The only disappointment was the on street parking.
- j (6/5): Perfect for a stopover and a pub meal - great for a stopover. We had a great meal, went to look at the stars through telescopes and up in the morning to go perfect for us.
- Jan (10/5): Comfy, convenient good value! - We enjoyed the night, right in middle of town, dinner available too! Great value!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Double booked room - Arrived after a 10 hour drive to be told the room I had booked was double booked and unavailable. I specifically needed an ensuite and was offered another room without one. Not happy as had another 10 hour drive the next day and spent an hour looking for alternative accommodation
- Iain (8/5): Recommended - Great food and clean/ tidy accommodation.
