Guest Reviews
- Emy (9/5): Superb - The owners are trying their best to communicate with us although they don't know English so well. And they tried to fulfil our request for the pick up and drop off time. During our last day, the owner prepare the onigiri and snacks for us. Although the towel for the shared bathroom need to rent ¥200 but it still in a reasonable price. The shared bathroom is only available from 4pm-9pm, need to take note about this.
- Finn (3/5): Poor -
- Rafael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eamon (10/5): Loved every minute - Owners were lovely and amazing even though didn’t speak a word of English, tired to help as much as they could. Amazing old Japanese couple
- Frithz (10/5): Exceptional - The host are super nice and they cater to every request from me. Will definitely going back Shower time with hot water only at night
- Choon (9/5): Nice clean and spacious facility with super friendly and helpful staff - The couple running the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. The inn offered to pick me up from the bus stop as I arrived late in the day. Transfers to and from the ski resort are provided. Room is very spacious and clean. The facility was fantastic. The only thing that made was not used to is that they don’t have a tpolet spray/ bidet.
- Janet (9/5): Excellent value for money. - Fantastic location
And brilliant hosts
- Elizbeth (10/5): Lovely inn and wonderful gracious hosts just a bit remote from the center of the village. - The hosts were lovely. Very good food. We had dinner there twice during our six night stay. It is a bit far away from the village. It’s close to Goryu and Escal Plaza. Figuring out the shuttle schedule at night was a bit tricky and taxis and Ubers difficult to get.
- Yingyu (9/5): Warm n cozy to feel like being home - Homey places with excellent maintenance. Breakfast is excellent. Pick up service to n from goryu ski resort is nice. The room is quite spacious but with limited amenities.
- Bonnie (10/5): Comfortable and cosy place to stay near Goryu&47 - Staying at this guesthouse was overall a great experience. The owners were very nice and have clearly gone to a lot of trouble to make sure a traveller has everything they need here. Everything was very clean, comfortable and cosy.
Advantages of the location: the area is charming with lots of trees and there are some good food options around (As a vegetarian I really liked the nearby 'Sprout') Not much to be done about this, but consider the location carefully IF you don't have your own car in the ski season. You can take a longish walk (1.1km) to Escal Plaza in your snow gear if you don't take the free shuttle bus provided by the inn at around 8:15am. If you don't want to ski at Hakuba47 or Goryu, the bus will take abit longer (about half an hour from memory) to get to Happo One etc. Note that getting around the valley by shuttle buses in general can take a long time and be a little confusing, and forget about it if you want to move around in the evening.
- Teck (9/5): Comfortable stay with warm welcome from owners. - Cozy, owners are passionate in treating their guests, which they will provide transport to goryu escal plaza. Although walking distance to ski resort was mentioned, but still a bit far from it. Gladly transportation is provided by the owners.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - I felt like part of the family from the moment I arrived. A wonderful stay.
- Will (9/5): Superb -
- Pollett (10/5): great stay with very nice people - great location for going to goryu/hakuba47 mountains and the most lovely owners
- Laptova (9/5): Peaceful and lovely! - Beautiful property with amazing decor. The staff were so kind and offered a shuttle service to Goryu and the bus station. The breakfast was incredible and there were free snacks and tea available for guests. My bed was a bit firm, but I still slept great :)
- David (10/5): Clean, welcoming and comfortable! - The Japanese owners were really kind. The home-cooked breakfast and dinner were great value. The room was clean and cozy. This is in the budget accommodation range, imho. So it represented good value. The property was walking distance to Goryu ski resort.
- Suxuan (10/5): Very comfortable to stay private. - Quiet, Clean and perfect service. The Hosts are very friendly, warmhearted and helpful. The wooden house isn’t soundproof, but almost everyone can keep quiet during me stayed there for 12 nights. Except Once a guy was playing videos next door, since I complained, the host went to deal with it very quickly. So didn’t bother me much. They offer shuttle service from Goryu ski resort and bus/train station, quite convinent for me. Perfect expericence. Thank you.
- Mark (9/5): Lovely people, excellent value -
- Pieter (8/5): Very good -
- Allison (10/5): Nice, cosy place with access to Hakuba ski resorts - Friendly staff that offers shuttles to and from Hakuba Goryu Escal Plaza every day, which as at the base of Goryu ski resort. If you don't shuttle, it's only a 15 minute walk to Goryu, I shuttled in the mornings and walked back after skiing. From Hakuba Goryu you can take the shuttle to all the other Hakuba ski resorts.
- Agnes (10/5): Timeless gem hosted by lovely couple - The Inn is run by an older couple who’ve tended to their property with love and care for decades. Each of the rooms is named after a plant or flower and those wooden door signs are hand carved. Tucked into corners and hanging from walls here and there are plants or small craft decor. The wood of the house is original and you feel the soft sturdiness of aged wood as you walk across the carpeted floor. The place is, of course, spotlessly clean. In the morning, I didn’t order breakfast because I was heading out early, but the lady owner packed me an apple and a homemade onigiri. Mr. Owner will help drive you and your gear to the resort. Ask them what tree is which species and they can tell you everything about what grows in Hakuba valley. If you feel like Hakuba is overrun with foreign tourists and foreign businesses and you can’t even see Japan anymore, this place is a true gem from times past.
- Pieter (8/5): First japan trip - Extremely friendly and helpful owners. Family run. We arrived very late and they kept checking in on our progress. Not great english speakers but we got along fine. Even sold us some beers on arrival ! The shuttle to escal plaze saves a lot of time and effort. Couple of slightly odd things, shower only 4 to 9 pm ( heating? Water pressure ? ) unsure as to exact reason. Very basic but comfortable, all you need really. Quiet from 9 which to me is a bit early, taxis at night are very unreliable ( not wataboshi fault of course.). Nice breakfast but remember to order day before. I can see myself staying there again.
- Ivan (10/5): Exceptional - The Owners were really nice and helpful despite the language barrier. I had to check in very late at night and they were nice about it which I appreciate. The place is in the snowy beautiful woods and very close to Goryu resort. The place has a schedule of when the dining room is open and when the showers can be used but the owners made an exception for me due to my late arrival the next day. The bathrooms and common areas were very clean at all times. I would definitely recommend this as a place to stay for anyone looking for a place to sleep in between your skiing adventures. I definitely will be coming back.
- Dawn (9/5): Superb -
- Ethan (10/5): Best service by the staff ever - The vibe was very cozy and the owners catered to every need and beyond. Everything you need for an exceptional ski trip including lifts and great facilities Nothing
- Harun (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (10/5): Great cozy, comfortable Inn - Really nice Inn, comfortable rooms, great service, good showers.
Very accommodating and friendly hosts.
Breakfast and dinner was tasty and fulfilling. Breakfast is served at 7:30am, which is a bit late if you want to hit the slopes at 8:00am. Would be great to have the option to have breakfast a bit earlier.
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - The couple that tends to the place are amazing!!! Location was hard because of uber. Not really their fault. Super quiet and removed.
- Xiaoduan (9/5): Superb -
- Rainer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yee (10/5): Exceptional - The host are really sweet and thoughtful. The location is not the most convenient but host offer pick up at the nearest station when you arrive. (We didn't know so we walked!)
- Hugo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joseph (9/5): Beautiful, cozy stay - The hosts are extremely lovely and hospitable. They will go above and beyond to make sure you’re comfortable. They offer a shuttle service to Hakuba Goryu. They offer breakfast and dinner (paid) which were delicious. I was even given a lift to the bus station on my last day. It is a decent walk from Kamashiro station and Hakuba Goryu bus stop. Be prepared to march through snow if you don’t have a car to travel in.
- Dizhaldy (9/5): Superb - The owners were very accommodating during the stay and made sure that you were welcomed. They even went above and beyond to pick me up at a bus stop that is 20 minutes away, since I couldn't be dropped off in the closest bus stop. Overall the place is really nice and definitely worth the price.
- Josuke (9/5): Superb -
- Isabella (9/5): excellent hosts, quiet, well kept - Extremely clean and quiet. The hosts were really attentive and provided pick ups and drop offs to the slopes and bus stop. Dinner was excellent too and a good option given the hotel wasn’t that near restaurants in town. It’s quite removed from bars and restaurants if nightlife is important. Also hard to walk to slopes with equipment so you’re reliant on the drop offs.
- Yee (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts are super super nice and friendly!!!
The house is unique with lots of character. Everything is great. The location is not the most convenient but the host will provide pick up and drop off in designated time, to the nearest ski resort.
- Rachel (9/5): Superb - The owners were very warm and welcoming! Everything was very convenient for my first time snowboarding in Hakuba.
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sabrina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gary (9/5): Superb -
- Rosse (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joel (10/5): What an amazing stay. The hosts were incredible. So helpful and friendly. I’ll be back! - Location was out of the way yet perfectly quiet. Train was only 10 min walk.
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Don (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richey (8/5): Very good -
- Nataliya (10/5): Exceptional - The stay was clean, welcoming, cozy, and very pleasant. Breakfast was delightful, our room had a beautiful view and great energy inside, the ski room was great to store skis and boots, and the couple who run the place where extremely hospitable and went out of their way to help us and make us feel comfortable. The beds and pilllowd were a bit stiff
- Muqi (9/5): Wonderful host and great food -
- Js (10/5): Exceptional - The innkeepers are a lovely elderly couple who went the extra mile to make the stay pleasant and comfortable. They kindly provided transport to and from the bus stop on check in and check out, and also have scheduled transport runs to the nearby Goryu ski fields.
- Shoemaker (9/5): Superb - The owners are so sweet!
- Elodie (10/5): Unforgettable, magical experience in real Japan - I can’t write enough positive feedback about Inn Wataboshi. Tucked into the forest but just next to the ski resort, we really got the full Japanese experience with the best hotel hosts we’ve ever had. The couple who run the Inn couldn’t have been more helpful, with an excellent shuttle service to and from the very nearby slopes (walkable if needed), going above and beyond to help us get ski rentals and go to other resorts, and even packing us a picnic lunch when we left! The facilities were always absolutely spotless and the rooms where cozy, clean, and comfortable. The Inn is also close to lots of great restaurants but in a very quiet, residential area. We will recommend Inn Wataboshi to anyone coming to Hakuba- staying here truly made our stay an unforgettable experience. Nothing! The stay was perfect.
- Man (10/5): Good value - Hosts are friendly and caring. A bit far away from ski area. 10 mins walk They did provide free shuttle at specific time.
- Kiersten (10/5): Close, comfortable and convenient, amazing hosts with great food - Inn Wataboshi was a fantastic place to stay with amazing hosts. There is convenient transport to and from the location, you can walk to the ski lifts or get a shuttle up from the owners. The beds and facilities are comfortable and food was delicious. I couldnt ask for more gracious hosts, would stay again.
- Rondick (9/5): Superb - Helpful hosts, great location, close to Goryu ski field (with morning & afternoon shuttle from owner). Easy walk back following night skiiing.
- Zhi (10/5): just stay here, no regrets - the place was clean and cozy. facilities and items were designed and placed purposefully to ensure that the entire stay was seamless - from the automatic lights/toilets, heater placed right outside the shower, to the small amenities. shower and bath were amazing and warm, perfect for winter.
our hosts are exceptional!!! they ran the inn for many years and were very helpful and kind in giving us recommendation and helping us with the navigation even though we can’t quite speak japanese. we were very well taken care of by them.
breakfast and dinner are available only if you let them know beforehand. free pickup/drop-off service is also available to and fro wataboshi and goryu escal plaza (only for specific period of time - let the hosts know beforehand if you need).
our hosts were kind enough to drop us off at kamishiro train station on our last day early in the morning, and even gave us onigiri and apples to bring along our way. immensely grateful. 10/10 would come back here to stay if i were to come back to hakuba. nothing
- Ash (10/5): Exceptional - Nice people, room was comfy, wi fi worked fine, offered me a lift to the nearest ski area if I saw them in the morning, gave me a bag when I left with sushi and an apple in it….happy days:).
- Steve (10/5): Pick up - Pick up and return from bus stop and Goryu Ski resort. Everything is perfect.
- Morten (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They went above and beyond to help me out, picking me up from the train station and driving me to and from the slopes every day. Accommodation was also very clean. They also helped to organise a lift pass. The self serve coffee and tea station was nice too. You don't get a towel with the room. You can rent one at the front desk which worked well but in the future I'll make sure to bring my own. Also in the shared accommodation showering times are only in the afternoon, the shower room seemed to be closed in the mornings.
- Jacob (10/5): A truly wonderful and peaceful experience. - Let me start by saying that the staff were dear and kind throughout my stay. They were attentive to every question and request, helpful when providing information, and showed great kindness to me over the week I spent at Wataboshi Inn. The location is a 10 minute walk from the slopes, but has the added benefit of being in a quiet are surrounded by trees and other small inns and houses. My room was small, simple, and cozy in ways that surpassed my hopes. I had a great week of solitude and peace in the snow and evergreen trees. I recommend the Wataboshi Inn to anyone looking for a balance of action and quiet, or a mellow stay at a unique and comfy inn surrounded by mountains.
素敵な経験だった。亭主は優しすぎた。おすすめですよ!11/10❤️
- Yi (10/5): Exceptional - Very welcoming and helpful staff , always warm in public area , room is spacious and cozy, they offer shuttle to Escal plaza every morning and evening even it's just nearby
