Guest Reviews
- S1498FBmariac (10/5): Hostess was absolutely wonderful and helpful. - We experienced concerning weather for Florida drivers (iced over one lane road going up a mountain) and did not feel comfortable traveling to the place we had reserved. In a pinch, late in the evening we tried the Hotel Chur to see if they had any rooms available. The receptionist was an absolute dream. We were able to get their last room. She kept apologizing because it had not yet been remodeled as most the others had been. She showed us to the parking garage and walked us to our room. The room was great. It was very clean. The bed was so comfy. Linens white and spotless. The bathroom small (most European ones are) but the shower was great and roomy. She mapped out several different restaurants to walk to for a late supper and was simply helpful in every way. It was also situated in a great area for our needs. She ended what had been a not so great day with a good experience. I would definitely stay there again the next time I’m in Chur.
- stevepJ6177HY (10/5): Excellent hotel very comfortable - Very comfortable stay lovely clean room and the breakfast was excellent, the staff were very professional and helpful, great location.
- William (10/5): - Great hotel!
- steven (10/5): - A great central hotel, walking distance from the station and main shopping mall. Fast food across the road includes Thai, Turkish and Mexican. Intimate bars and clubs from 100 metres to half a kilometer walk. The hotel is very clean, comfortable and staff are very helpful. The breakfast buffet is continental, so no hot food but all you could want, muesli, cereal, fruit, boiled eggs, cheese, cold meats... and endless freshly ground coffee. Great sauna also.
- David (10/5): Stop over - Great location for the old town, about a 5min walk straight up the road from the station . Used as a stop over after arriving on the Glacier express then catching the Bernina express the following day
- Lukas (10/5): Empfehlenswert - Sehr freundlicher Empfang, hilfsbereit, saubere Zimmer, ruhig trotz Stadtfest Chur, komme gerne wieder
- Jone Thunes (10/5): - Stort fint rom, parkering i bakgården og veldig kort vei til gamlebyen
- lita0 (6/5): Bed and Breakfast - It's not really a hotel, more of a guest house or bed and breakfast.
Our welcome started with a message advising that reception would be closing 30 minutes before we were due to arrive from The Bernina Express.
As it turned out it was still open, the restaurant and outdoor area doesn't open in the evenings and the bar is a limited choice self service.
As reported in other reviews dating back years, the rooms have no air conditioning, challenging to sleep with the fan on as it is noisy.
If you have a choice take one of the rooms with the internal courtyard view, boring but quiet.
Our friend overlooked the street and it was noisy till the early hours.
Be wary of the shower, it slopes gently, has no mat and is like an ice rink as soon as it gets wet.
Breakfast is continental style, help yourself, good selection of breads and cheeses.
Overall the hotel has the feeling of living in the past, with The Bernina Express bringing new customers to Chur every day perhaps it has no need to try any more.
Noted that the owners never respond to reviews or take on board customer suggestions.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Immer wieder gerne - Zum wiederholten Mal hier. Das Personal war schon netter.
- Matt (8/5): - We stayed at Hotel Chur for two nights in May 2025. Chur is a train station stopover town for most people, as the big draw is the Unesco World Heritage Bernina Express train that crosses the Alps into Switzerland (which we took). The Hotel Chur is situated near old town, about a 10-minute walk from the train station. The rooms were pleasant, with a small bedroom, bathroom and a small living room with an extra bed. The rooms were clean and the staff was pleasant. The rooms were a little hot, but you can open the windows if you don't mind the roaring river right next to the hotel. We had a hard time to get our devices connected to the free wifi (even with help from the hotel staff) - not sure why. Our reservation included breakfast at the hotel and it was very good with a decent selection of European foods. There are restaurants available in the old town nearby, but Chur is a small town and these are not always open. We learned that Mondays are a "low sales" day, so owners tend to close everything early (if they open at all). Chur is a very walkable city, and we walked to both museums (Kunstmuseum and Naturmuseum) easily. We also went a little out of our way to see the HR Giger Bar which is in the middle of a university on the west side of town. In all, I would recommend this hotel as it is easy to find, the staff are friendly and the sights around it are easy to get to. Also, I recommend taking the Bernina Express - that was fantastic!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Calanda dry festival - Super gsi.
Leider mein USB-C Lader hinterla.
- Antje (10/5): - The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I was able to leave my suitcase there for a couple of hours longer after I had checked out.
- Lynn (6/5): - Part of a trip round Switzerland. Stayed one night after the Bernina Express train trip.
No staff about in evening and restaurant not open at night no menu available no bar
Basic rooms but clean enough. Not much choice at breakfast
- Margaret (10/5): - Very nicely located hotel. Very clean. Breakfast very good. Staff extra helpful and friendly. Room spacious and comfortable ( could use extra pillows). Would absolutely stay here again
- rameshk325 (10/5): Good Location - Worth. Stay - Location is good - fairly close to station but a bit of uphill walk with luggage. Very smooth and friendly checkin. Rooms are not very large but OK. Could do with a fan as the rooms do get hot. Close to Old Town for sight seeing. Plenty of restaurants nearby for good food options
- Urs (8/5): - Es war in Ordnung aber nicht mehr.
- David (10/5): - Excellent staff, particularly in reception
- James R (10/5): - Could have used some air conditioning. It was hot.
- Aaron (8/5): Good location for stopover before Bernina Express - We used this as a stopover From Zürich to board the Bernina express. The hotel is simple, but it was clean and has a good location. A 10 minute walk from the train station. It is close to old town and we enjoyed walking around the area.
- Karen (6/5): Expensive but convenient to old city and train - Room was on the top floor with only a tiny window. Expensive for what it was. Comfortable
Enough but better pillows are needed
Basic room only with dated furniture and decor
Staff on reception super friendly
When we checked in nobody advised about included breakfast so we nearly missed it
- Stefan (8/5): - Alles gut, Matratze war etwas weich, aber ok.
- Emil (10/5): Super Hotel - Super Hotel, sehr freundliche Besitzer.
- christine (10/5): Great Location - Excellent hotel located next to the beautiful old town. The hotel has free parking. Superb breakfast.
- CQ44 (8/5): Nice hotel In convenient part of town - Great Hotel, centrally located near the historic old town. Friendly staff and decent breakfast. Large room with mini fridge & hairdryer. No air conditioning, but a fan was provided. Comfortable beds but pillows were a bit soft for my preference. Complimentary nespresso machine in the lobby for coffee.
- Carin (10/5): - Bra läge.
- Reinhard (10/5): - Alles super funktioniert
- PETA (6/5): - Quaint
- Christine (10/5): - The staff at hotel Chur was awesome, they upgraded us to a river side room and helped us plan our day. The hotel is directly across from the old city and a 7ish min walk from the train.
This is a solid 3 star hotel, not fancy but comfortable and clean. I would stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely room, excellent staff - I was so happy in my single room. Very spacious room with wood floor and big bathroom. Quiet at night. The wifi didn’t work.
Close to train station and old town.
Breakfast was very basic and they had rotten fruit, which was pretty much the only downside of the whole hotel.
- RollerCoaster999 (6/5): Basic and functional. Chur is crying out for a really good hotel. - This Hotel is just off the old town . It looks okay from the outside, but is not a particular welcoming inside and badly needs a Bar or Lounge area for meeting in the evenings, Stayed in standard rooms which are very basic but functional. No apparent way to control the heating and rooms are very warm. Chur has a big problem with hotels. The town badly needs a really good hotel having stayed in three or four, still waiting to find one.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wir waren zufrieden - Waren positiv überrascht. Grosszügiges Zimmer, sehr sauber, gute Betten, Bad tip top. Zimmer zum Fluss sicher ruhiger als zur Strasse. Service freundlich, Frühstück standard. Lage gut - aber Chur ist auch klein.
- GillieEJB (10/5): Lovely hotel with original decor; excellent breakfast and dinner - Lovely hotel with attractive old fashioned original decor. Beautifully positioned in the old city. Very comfortable quiet room although bijou. Really excellent breakfast. Excellent but very expensive dinner.
- Siegmar (6/5): - Hotel im Centrum,Bahnhofsnähe.
Frühstück ist ausbaufähig.
- Phek (10/5): - Its located so close to old town, basically downtown and also the train station. Receptionists are so polite nice.
- Laila (8/5): Godt hotel - Vi var i Chur for at tage en tur med Bernina expressen
Hotellet ligger tæt på banegården så det passer perfekt
- terry (10/5): - Great value
- Anne (8/5): - Well located for access to the old town and a ten minute walk to train station.
- Paula (8/5): Ok but could do better - It is surprising what is considered the most expensive room. Furniture needed updating. It wasn’t old in a traditional way but in a been here and knocked about way. View from room was other roofs. When I queried that it was the most expensive I was told it was a quiet room.! Restaurant was closed apart from breakfast which was disappointing as we always choose hotel with restaurant. Close to railway station but also on a corner of busy busy road. Parking is ok if you have a small car. We don’t and it was a very tight squeeze. Photo of hotel is very flattering. The shower is over a bath so can be tricky to access for anyone who can’t get in it out if bath easily .
- Edward (10/5): - Friendly, clean and enjoyable close to dining and old town.
- Kevin (8/5): - Property was very dated, not value for money.
Room had a dirty smell, so did bathroom and a pillow.
- Kersti (10/5): - Mycket trevligt hotell o trevliga fräscha rum. Utmärkt frukost .det enda var att det var ett otroligt oväsen utanför på nätterna. Men tur nog fanns effektiva ljudisolerade fönster .
- raysK542YW (10/5): Great stay at the Hotel Chur - Check in was smooth and easy with the helpful and friendly staff and I was made to feel very welcome. I arrived by car and the car space was reserved for me so I could drive straight in no problems.
A comfortable room and both the room and the large modern bathroom were clean.
A very nice breakfast and again the staff were very friendly and helpful.
I went on the cable car and the hotel gave me a voucher which you can get a discount when buying the cable car ticket.
I had an enjoyable stay and would be happy to book there again.
- Carin (10/5): Good location - Nice hotel in the very center. Short walk to the trainstation and the Berninaexpress.
- Antonio Luiz (10/5): Como for one night - It was a good hotel close to the station and the river. As was a hot day there’s no air conditioning but during the night the fresh air from the alps was amazing.
The breakfast was very nice.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hotel is located right on Kasernenstrasse, so if youre place in a room facing the street or the roundabout, especially on a weekend, be prepared to hear a lot of noise from the cars, a people yelling on the street at night. If you're coming in the summer, there's no Air Conditioning so it can get hot. There's a small fan and a window you can open. Overall, it's ok.
- Steffen (10/5): - Ein gepflegtes Hotel mit jeder Menge Charme, günstig gelegen in unmittelbarer Altstadtnähe. Reichhaltiges Frühstücksbüffet.
- Oneill009 (8/5): High quality service, accommodation and food even in the off-season - We made reservations here at the last minute, picking the hotel for its proximity to the train station. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel. We were there during the middle of the week in the off-season, but the service quality was excellent. We ate at the restaurant (we were among a handful of diners that night) not expecting much given the off-season. But the food was excellently prepared with thoughtfulness and high quality ingredients. It's a large hotel, much larger than we expected. Our room was very spacious and the bathroom was a good size.
- Matthew (10/5): - The hotelier and staff are very friendly and accommodating. The hotel itself is charming, clean and quiet. A short walk from the train station and right next to the old city.
- Monica (8/5): - Es war alles sehr gut. Vom Service bis zur Unterkunft. Wir kommen wieder
- Christopher (8/5): Great location, short walk to everything - Great central location; Old Town just steps away, mountain gondola and train station a short walk. Friendly staff were very accommodating when we asked for an early check in.
- Stephen (8/5): - 15 min walk to station. Located next to "old town". Large room with very basic furniture. But comfortable bed and lovely shower - but rather threadbare towels. Quiet overnight despite central location. Pleasant enough breakfast.
- Anne (10/5): - Excellent and friendly service. Very comfortable room and great breakfast. Near old town- all good.
- Lea (10/5): - alles super tiptoppp
- Nathalie (10/5): - Top
Rezeption Mitarbeiter sehr freundlich.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Im Zimmer war es heiss.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Geräuschkulisse eine Zumutung
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Pillows were flattened, towels were so hard and scratchy
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Giampietro (8/5): Parcheggio - Il plus sicuramente è il parcheggio.
Pulizia non perfetta (una carta di un cioccolatino sotto la scrivania).
Personale gentilissimo e cordiale.
Penso che sceglierò ancora questo albergo.
- Vicki (10/5): Smuk og central beliggenhed - Dejligt velfungerende hotel smukt beliggende og praktisk ift motorvej. Gratis parkering og restaurant. Lige overfor Altstadt
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Ewa (6/5): Disappointing hotel - Hotel has amazing location but is stuck in early 90ies... the room looked terrible, very dark with old squeaky furniture- closet kept opening when we walked past... bathroom was ok.
Biggest disappointment was that while booking it hasn’t been made clear that the bar and restaurant are not open and for dinner one needs to order take aways... breakfast was very basic with no cooked option available. Good bread though! One good thing was free parking on site.
- ilovecorndogs (6/5): Great location, basic/old place - This is in an excellent location, and the rooms are big
But - it’s a bit impersonal, staff is almost never around, rooms are super basic, breakfast below average, terrible pillows.... not sure I’d stay here again
- pmeltham (10/5): good place to stay - excellent service - had to take my wife to hospital on new years eve - staff were helpful in assisting me to get her there. room was nice and well appointed. can recommend as we would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice. - Enjoyed my stay here. Great location - right near the old town, not too far of a walk from the train station and relatively easy to find. The bathroom felt a bit outdated, but the cleanliness of both the room and bathroom was impeccable. The only downside is that there are a lot of bars/nightclubs nearby, and as my room was overlooking the main road, there was one night in which I was slightly disturbed by the noise. I had the window shut, so I imagine this would be more of a problem if the window was open.Obviously, however, this is not the hotel’s fault. I would stay here again.
- Bill (10/5): - Location was good right next to the old town. Breakfast was very nice.
- Satkap (10/5): Small beautiful hotel - Lovely hotel in a landscaped setting. Courteous staff, great service. Rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. Highly recommended. Stones throw from the station. Value for money. Sumptuous breakfast.
- Keval (8/5): - Large spacious room with good bathroom. Swiss breakfasts are cold continental breakfasts
- Dee (8/5): - The entire staff at Hotel Chur were super friendly and helpful. The hotel is located on the edge of Old Town. Only a 5 minute walk to the center of Old town and a 10 minute walk to the train. Very close to the cable car, for skiing and tobogganing, we enjoyed the Buffett breakfast too!
- Danny (10/5): - This is my second time staying at the Hotel Chur.
I noticed that they've done some upgrades to the rooms since my last stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was a quaint little room that was "fine" for a single night stay. I was able to go to the adjacent/attached restaurant for some ice and a couple glasses of wine. Very pleasant staff with somewhat limited English but we did get discount tickets and instructions from the clerk at the desk. Overall a very pleasant evening.
- Laura (10/5): - Beautiful old building in an adorable Swiss alps town! Perfect place to stay if you are getting on or off the Bernini Express!
- Roger (8/5): - Nice people nice stay room needs maintenance attention
- F2067MVnickh (8/5): Over night stop off - Hotel Chur was an excellent over night stay easy access to the old town. The rooms were clean and tidy the bed comfy and well made. We ate in the restaurant down stair and had a good meal with my wife having a small fondue, the wine was a touch on the expensive side but complicated the meal, good portion sizes. Only had one afternoon and a morning to enjoy Chur would have loved to have stayed longer and explored but time was not on our side hopefully will be back to explore some more, but it’s along way from AU. Great place good friendly staff. Hope you enjoy as much as we did
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel was very nice however it was at a busy intersection . Our room was next to a rushing stream that ended up being very loud with the window open. It was a short walk into town and not too far from the train station. The front door closes at 8 and you have to use your key to get in. No staff at the desk and it was a little dark but other than that perfectly fine.
- Margit (10/5): - Our room in city center was great. Room next to a fast flowing river. Only bad part was the chain smoker in room 327 next to us. It is a non smoking hotel & when I complained they said they look into it but did't.
- Cycladicdreamer (8/5): Chur stopover - After Bernina Express train ride we had booked 1 night at the Chur hotel, a 10 minute walk from the train station hotel is opposite the entrance to the old town, hotel has a large dining area and a good breakfast, beds very comfortable nice bathroom friendly staff, has no airconditioning but fan supplied was sufficient,
- Deborah (8/5): - Lovely, we had a lovely time exploring the town. Staff were very helpful
- HarryBolz (10/5): Motorcycle trip from germany to italy - We (2 bikes, 3 vespas) rode to Chur from Horb am Neckar in Germany. We arrived at the Hotel around 7:30pm and were glad to find 2 free rooms.
The staff was very friendly, explained everything and showed us around.
The rooms were new, clean and have plenty of space to vent out your clothes.
The bikes were parked in an locked underground garage with direct access to the hotel via elevator.
Carrying our belongings never was so easy.
After the rich and tasty breakfast we were prepared for our ride to mandello del lario at the lake comer in italy.
- pamela (10/5): Pleasant and enjoyable stay. - The most helpful staff ever. Went out of their way to be accommodating. Room was huge by European standards. Private toilet and shower in the room. Breakfast was fresh, well presented and extra clean dining room. Small staff who work hard and are pleasant to guests. No a/c but the windows open and the breeze was refreshing. Nice riverside location for pleasant walk through old town. One tip: if you go on a Friday night, get a room on the opposite side of the disco across the street or you will hear music for several hours.
- 267alp (10/5): Friendly, Clean and value for money - Hotel sits well downtown Chur, rooms are simple but large and very clean. Staff is friendly and the hotel is likely to be a (large) family business.
We also had dinner in the hotel's restaurant and it was very good.
A very enjoyable stay
- Jonathan (10/5): 5 star - It was super clean and best bedding and new bathroom . No air con but it’s ok as rooms are cold enough . Location is perfect . But hotel needs few firm pillows and it will be perfection . I loved my stay and honestly everything felt like 5 star. Quality is beyond expectations
- Joe (8/5): - Fun little boutique hotel. Great location near Old Town and short walk to rail station. They need to upgrade their in room amenities and it would be perfect.
- Ann (8/5): - very quaint
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great room with amazing view.
Excellent complementary breakfast.
- iDrive000 (8/5): Nice hotel, nice location - Located across the street from the old town, within walking distance from many restaurants and shops.
The structure is old but it's been partially renovated. Rooms are simple but comfy, the renovated furnishings are nice, but the room doors are still old and a bit shabby. The room keys are very 1970's.
The Breakfast buffet was very good.
The younger personnel is nice and speaks English, the older people were not very friendly.
- JR (8/5): - This hotel was located a 5 minute walk from the train station and right next to the historic old town area. The hotel has a secure underground parking garage and the staff were very helpfull. The hotel was under construction and the rooms were old and the floor creaked. However my room and bed were very comfortable and clean. The bathroom was also clean and modern. For the price this was a great place to stay and I would stay here again.
- OntarioJackson (8/5): Close to the entrance to the Old Town - This hotel had a wonderful restaurant which served delicious, local meals.
As I mentioned it is located close to the entrance to the Old Town, probably the most interesting part of Chur.
The lobby was very small and unimposing, but comfortable.
Our room was on the riverside, so a nice view but the river was very noisy! Fortunately with the windows closed, the sound was much muted.
The corridor windows on the other side opened to a barren, courtyard view, not sure how that could be improved.
The room was furnished in a modern, utilitarian method and was missing the niceties of wall art, rugs, decent bedside tables.
Our group walked from the train station which was a fair walk.
The beds were comfortable and the walk in shower was great.
Great breakfast!
- Nestor (10/5): - The lobby, all the hotel's crew were kind and efficient. The rooms also looks very well
- Peter (10/5): Hotel Chur - A great, friendly and helpful staff who were more than happy to help with queries and suggestions. Bed was very comfortable. Tea and coffee facilities in the room would have made it perfect.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Check in was easy. Staffs are very nice and very clean bathroom
- Verified traveler (2/5): Stay away. - The noise from the hotel bar and restaurant is loud, spills out into the streets, and continues until 3am. There is no sleeping in this hotel. When I brought it up to the person at the front desk in the morning, they shrugged.
For what it is, it is overpriced. Don’t bother.
- Fahri (10/5): - All was as expected. Staff were very friendly. The hotel was very clean. The room was very good size and comfortable. It looked like it was newly renovated. The bathroom needs some hangers. It would also be nice if you had some English news TV channels.
The hotel is centrally located minutes from shopping and restaurants, and train station. The bus station is just next door.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic Accommodation - Was fine for an overnight stay, wouldn’t recommend if you were staying more than one night. Room is very basic but location is good. Easy walk to main strip and train station.
- Stephen (8/5): Central location and welcoming staff - Welcoming reception staff and good sized room. Free car parking. Breakfast was not good.
- Stephen (10/5): Switzerland 2018 - Very nice modern hotel. Breakfast great. Staff excellent. Experience with hybrid car a learning curve for all.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Doors were locked at 6:45pm, no way to get in - I had a reservation at this hotel, made through Expedia. I arrived at 6:45pm for the night I had a room reserved. The instructions on the hotel's Expedia page said that check-in was from 3-8pm. When I arrived, the hotel was locked, the lights were off and there was no way to get in. I called the number on the hotel's Expedia page several times as well as a number on the hotel door several times and there was never any answer. After about 30 minutes, I gave up and had to find another hotel in town at the last minute (thankfully there was one available). I went back to Hotel Chur the next morning. The door was open, the lights were on, and there was a receptionist at the desk. I recounted to her what happened and finally she admitted that they decided to close early the previous night--at 6:30pm. Even though their posted check-in time is from 3-8pm. She said the phone number should have worked and I should have been able to reach someone through that. I showed her how many times I had called on my phone and she was very embarrassed. She said she was worry.... I told her that this is absolutely unacceptable business practice. I booked this hotel because of the reviews of Expedia, but I could NEVER recommend that someone stay in a hotel where the doors are locked before scheduled time and there is no way to reach anyone to get into the hotel for a room that you had reserved. I would NOT recommend staying in this hotel. Stay in one of the other very nice hotels in Chur.
