Guest Reviews
- Faye (10/5): Absolutely amazing in every way! We are so grateful to have experienced Japan here - What an exceptional experience at this wonderful accommodation! The owners have gone out of their way to make our stay as amazing as possible. Their eye for detail in the warm welcome, the breakfast, the wonderful room, the outdoor onsen and their recommendations on things to do - we loved every part of it and would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a true Japanese experience. Thank you for taking such good care of us!
- Marne (10/5): Sweet spot in Hakuba - The spotless room was comfortable, quiet and well stocked for those who like eating in. The multi-course breakfast was beautifully presented and delicious. Hosts Jo and Jun treated us as valuable guests. Highly recommend!!
- Kylie (10/5): Amazing stay. - We had an amazing stay for 3 nights. The owners are very kind and helpful with ideas of how to best spend your time. The breakfasts were the best we had in our 3 weeks in Japan. Lovely outdoor onsen and most beautifully clean property. Nothing
- Kelly (10/5): -
- Ong-ard (10/5): A place to stay in Hakuba with give you more than your expectations. - We have more than our expectations when we stayed with Kunugi. The owner operates this house by themselves and very kind and helpful. They give a very nice recommendations about place to visit and local restaurants we need to try. The location is private but not far from the main attractions of Hakuba. The house’s interior is decorated in mixed Japanese and Thai styles which blends in very beautiful and warm feeling. Room equipped with everything you need like you stay at home plus a massage chair which is very comfortable especially after your long day. The most extra ordinary is our breakfast. We stayed 3 days with we have 3 different very delicious breakfast on every morning. Nothing we don’t like about Kunugi.
- Richard (10/5): Brilliant - One of the best places i have stayed. The hosts were fantastic and very accommodating. In house onsen was great. Great traditional Japanese experience and fantastic breakfast every day. Highly recommended.
- Greg (10/5): Very enjoyable! - The property was fantastic and the hosts and staff were so friendly and helpful!
- Holiday (10/5): Incredible from start to finish! - What a treasure. Kunugi Relaxation was a dream. The owners and staff are extremely kind, generous and treat you like a dear friend. The breakfast was exquisitely prepared and served. They accommodated my special dietary needs with grace and the Onsens!!! Wiw! The location was a bit out if the center, but it Andi made it extremely quiet and peaceful, so it was a plus overall.
- Leslie (10/5): If you’re traveling to Hakuba and Kunugi is available BOOK IT. You will be so happy you did. - Everything was amazing. The kind and friendly owners work so hard and have created a beautiful atmosphere. Our room was large with a full bathroom, large shower and tub, kitchenette and washer/dryer, relaxing massage chair, breakfast tasty and abundant, and the hosts go above and beyond. From reservation recommendations, bringing sake and wine to our room on a silver tray, & private transport back at the end of our stay.
The outdoor onsen is so tranquil and relaxing. I just can’t say enough good things about this place.
We have traveled all over the word and I have to say, this accommodation has probably been my favorite. Not a thing.

- William (10/5): A beautiful authentic experience, with incredible hosts who make you feel welcome. - An amazing experience in a traditional Japanese house with such gracious hosts. Everything from the foyer to the hallway to the rooms felt so warm and authentic. Breakfast each morning in the morning dining area was fantastic. The location is great a 5 min walk to the bus bay which takes you directly to the mountains 10-min drive to Hakuba Goryu and Hakuba 47. The rooms were so cosy and comfortable and have a great feeling like you were at home relaxing. The private onsen they have is the best way to relax after a big day of snowboarding on the mountains, followed by a massage chair in your room to really help you unwind. Can’t think of a bad thing to say about our time here Nothing at all
- Craig (10/5): Definitely relaxing and meets expectations. Top quality. - Super comfortable and relaxing. Excellent facilities. Quiet location. Easy to get to. Great staff.
- Anhhuy (10/5): Great facilities, great host, great breakfast. Will definitely return again. - The host was very accommodating, friendly, and helpful. The rooms were very spacious, comfortable, and had everything I needed, including a washer/dryer, coffee/tea, refrigerator, comfortable bed, heating/cooling. The breakfast was delicious. I liked the small cozy feel of an inn or a bed/breakfast style of a hotel. There were only 4 rooms and 4 families of guests so it did not feel crowded or empty, but it felt comfortable, warm, and inviting. There is also a private outdoor onsen and 2 private indoor onsen that you can reserve for private use without any conflict with other guests. There are several local restaurants close by that you can access by walking. The location is remote in a neighborhood so you will need either a car or to use public transportation to get there.
- Gil (10/5): - Nice and very tranquil. Onsen was superb and relaxing. I really liked how close the bus stop to the resort shuttles were (about a two minute walk). Renting snow gear was easy. All we had to do was pick it up from lion gear rental shop and on your last day of stay, Ryoji would call up to get it picked up for you which left no hassle for us. Breakfast was also amazing. The attention to detail of the food and even the rooms were the best. I highly recommend for any couple looking to stay.
- Michael (10/5): Highly recommend staying here - We stayed at Kunugi for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hosts were amazing, the breakfasts were delicious and large, the location was easy to get around and very central. We would highly reccommend and look forward to hopefully returning.
- Wayne (9/5): A great stay and would book there again. - Superb breakfast, multiple courses served fresh at table ( not smorgasbord) and varied every day.
The hosts couldn’t do enough to assist you, so friendly. They supply transport if required around Hakuba. There are also 2 electric vehicle charge stations on site for guests.
Our accommodation was spacious and comfortable with four rooms including kitchen facilities for in- room cooking if desired. The property has 3 onsens including one outdoors ( really good vibe), which you book and have exclusive use for 40 minutes, and at no cost.
Site was a short walk to shuttle buses and Echoland Main Street with numerous restaurants and bars. You couldn’t really fault the property , it was a great stay.
- Joshua (10/5): -
- Fitzpatrick (10/5): - Lovely quiet inviting place with a tranquil room. Unbelievably attentive and helpful staff. I would recommend for anyone looking for a great experience.
- luella (10/5): absolutely perfect! - absolutely loved our stay at Kunugi, we have had two incredible stays there and won't be going anywhere else in Hakuba! the staff and facilities are fantastic and the breakfast is INCREDIBLE!! Cried leaving this place, we will 100% be back! all incredible
- Brianne (10/5): - Very helpful staff! Stores our luggage ahead of time so that we could hit the slopes. Helped me try to find a lost helmet and went above and beyond. The hot baths were lovely and the facility was amazing. 10/10 stars for sure. Quiet and peaceful.
- Michael (9/5): -
- Andrea (10/5): Book this place, you won’t regret it. - The rooms were luxurious, spacious and very clean. The common areas were homey and the staff were so lovely. Breakfast was amazing, everything was delicious! We loved staying at Kunugi Nothing, all of it was amazing
- Marcus (10/5): -
- Georgia (10/5): This accomodation was our favourite of the whole trip. - Our room was stunning and very clean, had everything we needed. The breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious. The staff were so kind and helpful. The location was great, close to the bus stop to get up the mountains. And lastly the private onsens were such a treat after a long day of skiing. Our only regret was not staying longer!
- Jonathon (10/5): -
- TINGTING (10/5): Magical stay! - Well appointed rooms, quiet, had everything I needed, very clean and spacious. Massage chair in room and outdoor onsen were great additions. Joe the owner and his wife were so helpful. Amazing gourmet breakfast to top it all off. Nothing! I would definitely come back.
- Kimberley (10/5): -
- Lauren (10/5): - A beautiful place to stay. The hosts were so incredibly welcoming and lovely! They went above and beyond, making sure we got on the right buses to the ski fields, organising transfers and giving advice about the different ski resorts. The breakfast was also exceptionally good and we loved the private onsens. The room was spacious and the property was completely charming. Also was really centrally located and only a short walk to restaurants, buses and our ski hire. We can't wait to return!! Nothing at all, this was perfect accommodation
- Constantine (10/5): Five star experience, highly recommended. - Ryoji and his team went out of their way to ensure we had a memorable stay. From the five star breakfasts to restaurant recommendations, transport to the slopes (for a small fee), organising luggage forwarding, nothing was too difficult. The property has beautifully decorated rooms, amazing indoor & outdoor onsens and the facilities are all maintained to a very high standard. Highly recommended. Nothing, the stay exceeded our expectations.
- Noah (9/5): -
- Chloe (10/5): -
- Benjamin (10/5): We had a lovely stay there and will recommend friends and family to stay there if they ever plan to head to Hakuba. - The room was big. It had a dining table, queen bed and kitchen area. The property also had private onsens (both indoor and outdoor) which you could book. It was a great place to relax after a long day of skiing. There was a huge tv available to watch movies in bed.
The breakfast was top notch. We had risotto, and French toast which were cooked perfectly. The owner is friendly and flexible. He delivered breakfast up to our room when we had to have breakfast earlier before the usual breakfast timing due to our skiing lesson schedule.
Overall, we had a lovely time at the apartment. Perhaps there could be blinds installed at the window at the kitchen.
- Phoebe (10/5): Hidden gem!! Amazing place - This place is a hidden gem!! The owner went above and beyond, he was a lovely guy and helped us with transfers to the ski field, buses, etc. Onsen was so amazing and the room was huge, warm, clean, relaxing and comfortable. Easy walk to some great restaurants and bars, and breakfast at the hotel was a treat each day. Please stay here!! Nothing
- Jake (9/5): -
- Patrick (10/5): Ryoji and his team were very accommodating with fantastic service, the hospitality was 10/10. -
- Antonio (10/5): Kunugi is the place to stay - The spacious condo room was spacious with 3 main areas ( dining room over tatami mats with a wonderful massage chair as well, living room with a sofa and chairs and the loft style bedroom. The bathroom with a sepárate shower amd big hot tub ) all wooden walls and ceilings giving it a serene vibe .
There are also a couple of on site private onsen indoor or outdoor options to choose from ! And a sauna .
And last but not least the wonderful and delicious breakfast specially made by the owners with the upmost delightful taste. Everything tastes great and the dining area very nice .
Almost forgot , the owner also helps you personally to ship your luggage to your next hotel stay and giving you information about the Hakuba Valley area., places to visit, etc.
We are definitely coming back. While not really an issue because of the GPS it could help to see street signs with directions to the hotel. Is on a very secluded area and not the easiest to find imo.
- Benjamin (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): I wish I could have stayed longer! - It was beautiful, comfortable and immaculately clean, and the breakfast was wonderful. The onsen was great. The service was exceptional. The hosts were warm and available, and helped with everything from dinner reservations to activity recommendations. The location was within walking distance to good restaurants. I loved everything!
- Alex Chin Kuan (9/5): First time in Hakuba and definitely a place to stay to if we’re back here. - Very eclectic with the “Thai-Balinese” inspired deco, exuding a chill and relax vibe throughout.
Owner Ryoji was courteous and respectful, explaining the “house rules” clearly and I appreciate that.
He even went above and beyond to assist with our luggage so as we do not drag it across the tatami floor, understandable.
I wasn’t expecting a variety of private hot baths, which you’re required to “book”, or in SG vernacular, “chope” the timing, all in good fun to watch who else is using it and try to beat the crowd. Go for the outdoor bath whenever possible, it’s the best.
Breakfast was delicious, well put together and nothing short of splendid. Can’t say for dinner, we we ate elsewhere because we didn’t book with dinner.
Overall, Kunugi gets the two thumbs up and two big toes up as well. :-) Finding it initially might be confusing even with GPS if you’re checking in when it’s dark.
- 2016_0510 (10/5): 和住酒店不一样的体验 - 早餐美味,老板服务态度很不错 交通不太方便,需要另外付钱接送
- Jan (10/5): Delicious breakfest, outstanding services, kind staff - Perfect services, nice staff 0
- Matthew (10/5): - We loved our stay so much! The hotel is immaculate and the service outstanding. The hosts are super attentive and communicative. The decor is purposefully done and beautiful, it’s a high attention to detail. Breakfast (and dinner) are amazing and consist of
- Chris (10/5): Loved Kunugi Relaxation and we will return! - Joe & June are the ultimate hosts at their beautiful home stay where we spent 5 nights during spring. The attic room was perfect for two, very comfortable and serviced daily. The breakfasts cooked by June and served by Joe are next level dining and we enjoyed different dishes each morning. Joe would ask what we had planned for the day and return with printed maps and advice on places of interest & lunch time suggestions. The onsite onsen is a great way to round out the day, whether it be skiing or visiting the local area.
- Raewyn (10/5): - This was the most amazing stay we have ever experienced in all our travels around the world. The hotel is so beautiful and perfectly balances a traditional Japanese Ryoken feel with modern amenities and very comfortable rooms. Our family group stayed in two rooms which both had tatami mats, in room baths, very comfortable lounge areas and beds, washing machine and dryer, massage chair, and many extra amenities like filter coffee, complimentary cold drinks, toothbrushes etc. We dined in the on-site restaurant for breakfast which was a beautiful two course experience with fresh fruit, and amazing food. There are 3 private onsens and they are extremely clean and very beautifully presented for.a lovely relaxing experience after skiing. There is ample parking on site. The owners were so kind and thoughtful helping us with organising to get our ski gear returned and advice on things to see and do. We will be recommending this hotel to all our friends and family and will stay here again when we return to Hakuba.
- Iain (9/5): Recently returned - It's the first time I've had to get shuttle buses to the slopes - they run on time but it's just so much easier ski-in/out.
Excellent breakfasts.
Onsen was a very welcome conclusion to each day
The apartment massage chair
The clothes washing facilities in the apartment were very useful. No need to pack so much spare clothes.
Joe and his attention to detail and helpfulness.
- Tayla (10/5): A memorable stay - Our stay at Kunugi was amazing. The property was peaceful and the views around us were magic. The location was an easy short walk from the centre of Echoland and the breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Our room was spacious and spotless with everything we could need. The bonus of having the onsen's and massage chair elevated our experience. The host & staff were incredible, so accommodating, helpful & kind. Thank you again, we will be back! Nothing I can think of!
- Madison (10/5): - Joe was amazing!
- Michael (10/5): - Excellent hotel in a great area for skiing in Hakuba.
- Ashley (10/5): 10/10 Would stay here again. All facilities provided were high quality. The outdoor onsen is amazing - Breakfasts provided were high quality and the service was exceptional. The massage chair provided in our room was a very welcome addition for our snowboarding holiday.
- Gordon (10/5): Amazing hidden gem - Genuinely an amazing hidden gem. Incredible service, fantastic rooms and even an outdoor private onsen.
- Andrea (10/5): Absolutely fabulous accommodation - we loved everything about Kunugi but most of all the hosts, they are so wonderful an - We loved everything about Kunugi. Our room was super comfortable, had all that we needed and was beautifully created with a mix of traditional and modern.
Breakfast every morning was a treat - beautifully presented, nutritious and so tasty.
The private baths were absolutely fantastic - great to share as a couple and to relax after skiing.
The absolutely best part of Kunugi are the hosts - wonderful lovely friendly people who bent over backwards to help us with whatever we needed before and during our stay, they just made it such a great experience.
Very sad to leave but we will return. Nothing - we loved Kunugi.
- John (10/5): Outstanding Stay with Exceptional Service and Facilities - We had a fantastic stay at this hotel! From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and provided excellent explanations of the facilities, making us feel right at home. Their hospitality truly stood out.
The hotel offers a paid transportation service, which was especially convenient when local public transportation wasn’t available. The facilities were top-notch, with well-equipped kitchenware and a laundry machine—perfect for a comfortable and extended stay.
One of the highlights was the three beautiful Ofuro baths, including a serene open-air bath that provided a wonderfully relaxing experience. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and the breakfast was both delicious and beautifully presented, with a nice variety that changed over our stay.
Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. We highly recommend it and would love to stay again in the future!
- Olivia (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything. We stayed for 6 nights and had 2 room the 'Attic' and 'Nagomi'. They were both super spacious, really comfortable beds, massage chair in each room, kitchen that included a wash/dryer machine. The attic room had a room for luggage and hanging clothes and there's a security safe box. The set breakfasts are incredible and a different one each morning. When we had early starts, they brought breakfast early to our room which was so amazing. There are 3 different private onsens 2 inside and 1 outside, a steam room for an extra charge and you can book massages. There's a drying room for boots and gloves and ski clothing goes to your room. There is a public bus about 100m down the road to access some ski resorts and there's a cute little bakery around the corner and a great ramen place as well. There's plenty of space to park car if you have one. The hosts were incredible and went above and beyond everyday. Can't wait to come back. Nothing, everything was perfect.
- I-ping (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (10/5): Wonderful property, great facilities, great hosts. - The property was wonderful. I didn't expect three onsens (one leading out to external view of snow), the biggest being available to book, and when I say book, there are only four rooms in the place and three onsens so you are guaranteed a private onsen pretty much whenever you like. Massage chair was an added bonus and the breakfast amazing - four courses. Joe was always happy to suggest restaurants, shuttle buses and best mountains for the day. Joe's hospitality was first class. It isn't in the main street with the restaurants but that made it quiet as well.
- Trevor (10/5): Best accommodation I've ever stayed in. - Hospitality was beyond words – to celebrate our engagement, the staff literally built us an igloo (see photos) and provided champagne & roses. Rooms were beautiful (traditional yet modern). Location was perfect (both nightlife + ski shuttle access). Ryoji (Jo) and team made my first trip to Hakuba unforgettable. Nothing; everything about Kunugi blew me away (including the immaculate Onsens, incredible breakfasts, in-room massage chair, ...). I cannot recommend this place enough.
- Daniel (10/5): Staff are amazing. I did not want to leave, I highly recommend staying here. - Rooms are beautiful and clean. Outdoor Onsen is the best after a day on the slopes
- Luella (10/5): perfect! - The staff was amazing and always happy, making the experience even better. The incredible breakfast was a great way to start the day, and the rooms were perfect for relaxation. Plus, the onsen was truly magical, adding a unique touch to the stay. Couldn't recommend this place more, can't wait to come back nothing all was amazing
- Molly (10/5): Lovely stay in hakuba - Beautiful setting, photos don't do it justice. Easy walk to Echoland centre but out of the way enough so as not be loud. Room and hosts were incredible and extremely helpful. Outdoor onsen was a highlight, as were breakfast and massage chair. So comfortable and beautiful, would highly recommend
- Callan (10/5): A perfect place to stay in Echoland - The rooms were large and comfortable, the breakfast was amazing, the location is ideal, and their onsen is the best that we found! No morning coffee available outside breakfast and breakfast only available from 8-8:30am.
- Angela (10/5): Absolutely amazing in every possible way - Exceptional service from the moment we arrived. The breakfast each morning was five star and the facilities offered were amazing. They went above and beyond to assist us with directions each day and even brought us lozenges one night, knowing we weren’t feeling too great. The location was a 5min walk to nearby restaurants and a few mins to shuttle busses, making our trips to the slopes and dinner so easy!
- Edward (10/5): Awesome - Awesome Nothing. All was excellent.
- Philippa (10/5): Joe and his team made us feel completely at home and helped us experience and understand the Japanese culture. - We could not fault the accommodation or service at the property it was truly exceptional. The breakfast each day was a feast . There was nothing to dislike.
- Anika (10/5): Outstanding quirky traditional Japanese Accommodation great for adults to relax - Such a beautiful personal accommodation traditional and quirky Japanese. We could not praise Jo and his wife higher and will be back one day. A 4-course 4star breakfast set every morning everything homemade. Adult only hotel with 3 Onsens, one of them for private daily use. Restaurants all walking distance on main drag in Echoland. Being an older Aussie couple we would choose a different room next time since the Condo has an open staircase and low ceilings, but this is personal preference.
- Sue (10/5): We will be back ! We had the perfect holiday. - We were so well looked after during our stay. Breakfasts were divine, the location fabulous and owners friendly and genuinely lovely people.
- Cruse (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ranil (10/5): Wonderful! - Kunugi Relaxation was amazing. The owners were lovely and our room was gorgeous and immaculately clean. The open air onsen was stunning. The breakfast was incredible. This accommodation was a highlight of our trip. I only wish we stayed longer. Highly recommend.
- Emily (10/5): Perfect way to relax after exploring the surrounding town and mountains. - The owners and staff were so friendly and helpful, they look after you the whole time that you stay. The accomodation is beautiful, in a beautiful location. We loved getting to come back to the hot baths at the end of the day! Will definitely be returning and recommending to others. Nothing, it’s wonderful
- Rocke (10/5): Absolutely picturesque, made our trip to Hakuba so memorable. - Our stay at Kunugi was absolutely incredible. Ryoji and his wife were so accomodating and made us feel so welcome, they went above and beyond and helped us with everything. We would be honoured to stay at their lodge again and would enthusiastically recommend this stay to others. Thank you again to the Kunugi team for making our stay in Hakuba so magical. Nothing, so sad to have left.
- Namgyal (10/5): Exceptional - Best accommodation we have stayed in. We stayed in the combi room which was very large and comfortable. The owner is very friendly as are all the staff. He gave us great suggestions for places to go during our snow trip. The outdoor bath was also excellent and a great place to relax after a long day at the snow. The breakfasts in the morning were very good as well. The location is good as well as it is near one of the main streets of Hakuba and close to the free shuttles that run over the winter.
- Sophie (10/5): Exceptional - Jo & his wife were incredible hosts. This was definitely our favourite part of the trip, it’s hard to pick just one thing that was best as it all was amazing! The onsen, the breakfasts, the service… all 10/10✨
- Gunvacharee (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay at this amazing place was truly exceptional! Mr. Ryoji and his wife welcomed us with such warmth and kindness, making us feel at home right away. The hospitality we experienced was unmatched, and we couldn’t be happier with our time here. We are already looking forward to coming back and would highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a memorable and heartwarming stay
- Chong (10/5): Truly good value for money - Modern facility, outdoor onsen is super cool. We enjoyed our stay to the maximum.
The host is very helpful and friendly. None
- Kate (10/5): Best accommodation in Hakuba! - This was the best accommodation I’ve ever stayed in. I stayed at Kunugi in the winter for a ski holiday, and this place has everything you need. Short walk to the Main Street in Echoland. The outdoor spa is amazing! I felt like I was staying at a spa resort. The hosts are incredible and lovely people. I will be back!
- Anzhi (10/5): Exceptional - Every detail was amazing, the owner family put a lot of effort into this. It was a perfect stay exceeded our expectations.
- Khalid (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alyssa (10/5): Excellent, brilliant, must-try hotel! - Service was really above and beyond anything we have experienced! Amenities were great - massage chair and the saunas were used daily after a snowboarding day.
Our room was called 'Attic', it was so beautiful! Well cleaned and ample space.
The location is near the bus stops to the other mountains and conveniently a short walk near a main road with lots of restaurants and shops to choose from.
Thank you so much again Ryoji and team. We will see you again soon (we hope!)
- Tun (10/5): Incredible and cozy stay - Owners were incredibly accommodating, and nice, and spoke good english. Delicious breakfast and great recommendations for nearby food. The property was very clean, spacious, and cozy. Staying here was the highlight of our trip, and it definitely exceeded our expectations. We loved the private onsen, and the fact that our room was like an apartment with everything we needed. Nothing bad to say about this property.
- Hilary (10/5): Simply perfect! - Gorgeously updated, large room with lots of extra amenities (massage chair, laundry in room, stocked kitchen). The baths are very luxurious, a very special treat after a day out in the cold! The owners were incredibly attentive and accommodating, going above and beyond to coordinate transportation, adjust meal times and accommodate dietary restrictions. Can’t wait to return!
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Reed (10/5): Peaceful stay with caring hosts! - We absolutely loved our stay. This was our favorite accommodation on our trip to Japan. The husband and wife that own the property are extremely attentive, caring, and hospitable. Any question we had, they were able to answer and help us make arrangements. We arrived late the first evening by bus and they were so accommodating that they even picked us up from the bus station! We loved our mornings there as breakfast was delicious and each day included something new and inventive. The room was beautiful and comfortable and the onsen very relaxing. There are some coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance but the property still retains its peaceful quality. I can’t say enough good things about our stay. We will be back!
- Wilson (10/5): Superb, 100% will return. The hosts were incredible and super helpful. Facilities are also top notch - The hosts are amazing, highly recommend to anyone. Thank you Jo and his team 10/10
- Mallorie (10/5): - Staying at Kunugi's was one of highlights of my entire trip to Japan. The hosts are remarkable-so kind, generous and helpful. I felt like I was coming home everyday after a day on the mountain and it was very peaceful at this property and in my cabin. It was unique, very cozy, clean, and I appreciated the kitchen, the washer/dryer combo, all the appliances (heaters, fridge, humidifier, air purifier, towel warmer, soaker tub, and the 3 onsens! I booked an extra day and I'm so glad I did.
I highly recommended this lovely property and truly adore the hosts. Thank you so much!
- Jez (10/5): Subarashī, expectations Will be knocked out of the ball park. - The Private Onsens are heaven on earth. The apartment was one of the most comfortable and cozy spaces I have stayed in. I want my home to emulate this place one day. I can’t think of a single thing. Maybe I banged my head on a few walls but it was entirely my own fault, because the rest of the space was so amazing it distracted me from the reality of my own body.
- Laleh (10/5): Would definitely go back - The interior was great, the host was amazing and the breakfast and Onsen were awesome too
- Brenda (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts were most gracious and attentive. The rooms were very well equipped and beautiful.
- Madaleine (10/5): Exceptional - Kunugi was one of the most incredible places we’ve ever stayed. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. Breakfast included was amazing and the location was only a short walk to shuttle bus stops and restaurants. The owners were kind, friendly and so helpful with suggestions. The outdoor onsen at the accomodation was a great experience too!
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional -
- Axel (10/5): Exceptional - Ryoji, his wife and staff were very helpful and accommodating. Couldn't make the stay any more comfortable.
Private baths were fantastic
Room was spacious and comfortable :)
Breakfast every morning was thoughtful and another reason to get up early Nothing at all
- Phil (10/5): Relaxing and romantic location in the heart of Hakuba, close to restaurants, shops, and ski areas. - The owners of Kunugi provided excellent service and were very attentive hosts. The ryokan is very calming and cozy, with easy to access on-site onsens. The facilities are all very recently updated with modern equipment and finishes. Our stay was so relaxing and nice! Breakfast each morning was a treat as the dishes rotated between egg options, fresh preserves and bread, tasty greens, yogurts, and breakfast soups. The service here is top notch and we would love to come back and stay again!
We came to Hakuba in the winter to ski and Kunugi is conveniently located a short walk from several shuttle bus stops that take you to the different ski areas. Also, it was very easy to send our skis to Kunugi ahead of time using Yamato and they even picked up at the ryokan to be sent back to the airport when we were leaving. We stayed in the "attic" room which was very fun! There was nothing that we did not enjoy about Kunugi!
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely room, the outdoor hot pool was an absolute treat after skiing. Hosts were very helpful
- John (10/5): Best family of 9 holiday that we have ever had - we’ll be back! - Everything exceeded expectation. It was the best hosted experience in our relatively long lives - late 70’s. Every breakfast was different for the ten days with master chef quality. Ryoji organised bookings at an amazing itinerary of restaurants but the best was what his incredible wife cooked in house. Not to be missed! Can’t think of anything.
- Steven (10/5): excelent location excelent facilities the private Onsen is amazing! Hosts are so freindly! - The owners met us at reception and welcomed us warmly giving us a tour of the property. They assisted us by bringing our baggage to the room and showing us all the functions and amenities of the room. They explained how breakfast worked and showed us \where the private onsens were and how to book for our use during our stay.
owners assisted us calling taxis and helping us when we returned injured after an incident on mountain left us battered and bruised
The room was fantastic with a private bathroom and kitchen facilities.
We did not even know about the private onsens at the property WOW so awesome to get sit and relax in the hot waters after a day on the slopes! 10/10!
Short walk into Echoland 5 mins depending on how icy it is on the roads, bus stop to the mountain right down the street at the roundabout.
They were so sweet and helpful really made our stay unforgettable! Definately book this place you cant go wrong!
We will be back! Nothing everything was Great
- Shivonne (9/5): Superb -
- FAN CHUNG (10/5): Absolutely amazing Condo - Amazing room with a private jacuzzi onsen. Cozy place yet it has a small kitchen and two living room area. We didn't want to move out the next day.
- Chris (10/5): - Quite possibly the nicest hotel experience I've had. The staff was incredibly kind and hospitable (helping with suitcases, calling taxis, the private onsen luxurious, and the room well-appointed with thoughtful amenities like a massage chair and bluetooth speakers. The breakfast is a must. I only stayed one night but already felt incredibly refreshed. 10/10 would return.
- Jordan (10/5): Exceptional - The lodge is amazing. Extremely clean and welcoming. The superior room with the oversized bathroom is incredible. The outside Onsen is on another level. It’s a close walk to bus stops but far enough to be quiet and private.
The owners are amazing and went above and beyond to accommodate us. They speak English very well and are super helpful. Cannot recommend enough and will definitely return. I haven’t stayed in a better accommodation in my years of travelling. 10/10. Thanks for having us.
- Maree (10/5): Cannot fault Kunugi and will be back ASAP! - The location is brilliant. Right near the Echoland shops, restaurants and rotary. Very easy to catch the bus to the slopes.
Ryoji is amazing and nothing was too hard for him to organise. This included massages on request for our sore limbs, lift passes, calling taxis, calling restaurants, storage of our bags before check in and assisting in sending our bags back to Tokyo so we didn't need to lug them back on the train with us.
The onsen is amazing and you can easily reserve the private one daily as many times as you would like. The rooms are immaculate and accommodating.
The breakfast was out of this world good. Gourmet cooking before snowboarding was the perfect start to the day.
I honestly could not recommend Kunugi more to anyone seeking a great time away in the snow. We will be back Nothing at all. We had the best time.
- Blake (10/5): Super clean, great rooms, great location. - Very clean property, the hosts were very helpful with all our needs, they were very polite and also speak English which makes things easy. Will return on our next stay for sure.
