- Mark (3/5): A hotel that very much needs to raise it's game - We did not have breakfast The room that we stayed in and other parts of the hotel that we saw clearly indicate that The Godwins is in much need of investment. Other than the exterior of the building, the photos that appear on Booking.com are rather judiciously taken and don't really provide an accurate impression of the reality of the interior. My main criticism is the lack of cleanliness in the the room in which I stayed. The carpet was not one on which I would have walked barefoot and the room did not appear to have been dusted for some considerable time. I can't exaggerate how dusty some parts of it were. In fact I took some photos at the time but deleted them after deciding to simply move on and not leave a negative review. However whilst not wishing to knock anyone struggling to run a business in these difficult times I've since changed my mind in this respect and have decided to leave a review. I hope that it's one that prompts the owners to reflect and improve rather than something that results in lost bookings

- Patricia (4/5): Lovely property. Would have been a fabulous stay had there been HOT (rather than warm) water. - Beautiful building. Great locality - very close into Hereford (but you will need a car for that). Ample parking outside. Nice room - clean and charismatic. Staff seemed very pleasant. I so wanted to give this property a good review but in honesty can't when THERE WAS NO HOT WATER. Hand warm only - and that's not enough when you come back tired and yearning for a reviving hot shower. It will only make you feel colder. This appears to be an ongoing problem and I think it is unacceptable to accept bookings when you know this. Being able to have a hot shower is one of the fundamentals of booking accommodation (unless you're somewhere really warm!) and the Godwins failed spectacularly in this aspect. It was too late and too expensive to rebook elsewhere. 29/4/26 PS. Have just noted the Hotel's response. I notified reception (at the bar) on the very first evening re. the water situation and was told that they 'thought that had been fixed (or words to that effect) but they would get someone in the next day to have a look. The following evening the situation was the same. Still warm only. I spoke to the manager about it. That's TWICE I flagged it up directly with the establishment.
- Kerry (10/5): Great stay - Charming little place! We were very pleasantly surprised! The room was so nice! Very clean and had everything we needed. Water supplied, porridge pots even a mini fridge! The outdoor seating area was perfect as we had beautiful weather! The bar food was also very good. The pizza was amazing! And such good value. Drinks were also what we would consider cheap. We would definitely stay again if around that area! Unfortunately the shower pressure wasn't amazing but the bathroom was lovely and clean

- John (8/5): Great value, friendly & relaxed - Relaxed and informal Lovely decor and furnishings Spacious, comfortable room with some thoughtful touches. Although breakfast wasn't included in the tariff the room did have a snack breakfast, plus tea & coffee, water and a fridge. Very nice ensuite. Bar downstairs with great beer. I didn't eat there but the food looked delicious and good value Not much. The ensuite shower was a bit dribbly but I'm very picky about showers. Bit of road noise so ask for a room at the back if you're easily disturbed.

- Anita (9/5): Great value for money - Had a lovely quiet 2 night stay. Staff couldn’t do enough for you. The tiny issue we had in our room with some light bulbs and with toiletries was sorted immediately. The historic building is lovely and they are doing a great job in doing it up. It’s not perfect but the price more than reflects that. We knew they didn’t serve breakfast before we booked and the place they recommended was excellent. They also did leave some complimentary instant porridge which was a nice touch. Would definitely stay again.

- Dele Bene (10/5): - Thr rooms were very comfortable for the price. All clean and tidy. Easy to get to and from Hereford and the surrounding area. I found the staff Charlie and Olie very friendly . Their food looked amazing, and they said they were making evenmore improvement to the menu . We had a chat with a few locals and were also very friendly. Would definitely come back .

- RICHARD (10/5): Very comfortable stay in a lovely place. - The ease of access, staff were very pleasant, the room was clean, tidy and very comfortable. The bed was the most comfortable bed we’ve slept in apart from our own! The room even had a small fridge (we stayed in room 4). The only slight grumble was there didn’t seem to be much hot water.
- James (8/5): Ideal stop over, not central for anything on foot, but convenient and very good value. - Had an issue with my room ( high pitched whine coming from Bathroom, possibly ceiling above) making it for me, unbearable, spoke to staff explained, staff was extremely helpful and gave me a great upgrade . Thank you . Plenty of free parking, and tho I don’t drink, the Bar downstairs seemed popular ( and wasn’t noisy ) Stunning and easily missed countryside if you venture a few miles the opposite side of the road. High pitched noise ( I’m very sensitive to high pitched sounds, not everyone will be ) , and the initial room looked directly from my bed, across a short roof, directly into another room, no net curtains, absolutely no privacy unless curtains drawn. It’s not a grand Manor House in the country with lush gardens, it’s on a main road just for your info.

Didnt try the food but it looked good and the hotel was full of guests and locals. Nice stay in a beautiful location There s no reception area to check in so had to wait at the bar to get my keys. You are told on info its not a manned hotel but still i think maybe a keysafe would be handy rather than waiting at a bar with luggage. As it was very busy. The window shutters werent working on sash windows so couldnt open the windows in room 2.

Staff very welcoming , food offering is good with very reasonable price offerings . Rooms are all spacious with comfortable beds My only grumble is a wardrobe without hangers … Why ?

Cleanliness in room needed some attention. A large cobweb hanging from the celing lamp added to the gothic atmosphere of the property. Some remaining sawdust on the carpet, presumably from a previous tradesman occupant. Shower outlet blocked.

We all had a good nights sleep, nice and peaceful, a far better experience than a motorway side hotel. We have no complaints, just a couple of suggestions, to have a extra kitchen chair would be useful, and also a jar of coffee, as an option, would be good

- Laura (6/5): Disappointing - Great location, space in the house was good, nice & quiet, private and bed was comfy It wasn’t clean at all - I’m not talking dust, I’m talking dirty toilets (under the seat was soiled for example), dirty floor and dirty marks on bedding and sofas. No toilet roll in 2 out of the 3 bathrooms. Looks like would normally provide tea & coffee but they hadn’t been topped up so just empty asides from the milk & 1 hot chocolate sachet. It’s a shame otherwise would’ve been great. I suspect the cleaning had just been forgotten after the previous stay. I work around the corner so it’s annoying as I was hoping to make it a regular stay as I commute from Essex
- Marta (4/5): Molto deludente - Bellissimo hotel che avrebbe un enorme potenziale ma gestito malissimo. Sporco ovunque, camera non fatta e nessuna assistenza notturna. E' più un pub che un albergo. Pessima posizione, molto fuori Hereford. L'albergo è praticamente su un'autostrada. Colazione non provvista, solo delle brioches in camera. All'arrivo, ho trovato sporco ovunque, solo il letto era stato fatto ma non avevano pulito la moquette. Ho trovato in bagno un cestino pieno di assorbenti lasciati dall'occupante precedente, schizzi sullo specchio. La camera non era stata pulita per nulla, solo il letto era stato fatto. Non c'è nessuno di notte, l'hotel ha solo una helpline se hai bisogno.
