Guest Reviews
- Clare (8/5): Clean, convenient and comfortable environment with lovely team looking after us. Rooms very tired - Perfect location for a family wedding we were attending. The bedroom was very comfortable and clean and every member of staff was friendly and accommodating to our requests Not so much that we didn’t like, but the bedroom (room 4) dated and the bathroom (basin unit) very tatty.
We also hired The Green Room for a small family gathering but the decor was poor with torn/damaged wall paper and old furniture. Buffet food okay, not outstanding but we did very much appreciate the friendliness and helpful team
- Cristina (9/5): - Personal agradable, habitación y baño amplios, no se oían nada de ruidos y la cama era muy cómoda. Tenían detalles de bienvenida No hubo nada que no me gustase
- Jonathan (8/5): A great place to stay and eat while visiting a lovely part of England. - Attentive, helpful and engaging staff who made you feel really welcome and would go the extra mile if you needed something. Good quality food and generous portions - especially good breakfasts! A little coat of paint just to spruce up would be good but hardly a show stopper.
- Carol (10/5): Very welcoming and helpful - Nothing
- Sharon (10/5): Great place to stay - Location atmosphere great
Breakfast
Sam who served us had a good sence of humour
Friendly
Quiet location slept well Nothing
- Blackburn (8/5): The staff were great - The service was very good. Breakfast was great! The room is a family room, which is situated right next to the outside area for the pub. Not ideal when you have a child and the noise outside doesn’t stop until gone 11pm. The room was clean but is quite worn in places so could do with some tidying up.
- Stephen (9/5): - We liked staying at The Fleece, the staff were pleasant and helpful. Food very good, and varied menu. We had a lovely weekend and would recommend The Fleece. The rooms were a good size but could do with having an extra chair/armchair.
In the bathroom, the shower screen let water under it and onto the floor, while in the shower
- Fosie (8/5): Yes, yes and maybe - I stayed 2 years ago. First the good news - staff were friendly and very accommodating, could not be better, the food was delightful. The location is perfect, the beer a delight. Parking was good.
The rooms and restaurant carpet were tired and need (IMO) an update. Shower was great and sheets were crisp and clean.
Even the weather was great!
- MarkE63 (10/5): Wow! - We came to visit our friend who has moved back to her home town of Witney. My significant other booked our accommodation so had no idea what to expect but I knew it would be good and boy was it. Small, intimate , warm and cozy with a nod to the past and a big hello to now. The room was spacious, great size TV and a stunning bathroom...dinner/drinks both superb and the full English breakfast is a real winner, locally sourced sausages and Irish black pudding, stunning but the real star of this establishment are the staff. Everyone we interacted with were just the nicest, friendliest people who seem genuinely happy to work there, a particular shout out to Sam who has the most kind and infectious personality...a great stay!
- Alastair (9/5): Great place to stay - Great location, excellent food and drink options. Nice rooms, spacious and in good decorative order. Super helpful staff and especially Sam who facilitated breakfast and was attentive and friendly.
- Hendrikus Johannes (8/5): Great base for a visit to the Cotswolds and/or Oxford! - Great location to explore the Cotswolds or make a day trip to Oxford.
Staff is very very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is of good quality and a lot choices on the menu.
Bed was comfy and room is fine. Free parking behind the building is very convenient. Room could use a little TLC.
The night entrance to the building has a musky smell and seems like it had a mold problem.
Not a big issue for us, since you just use it to get to your room quickly. But it should get some attention.
- Steve (7/5): Adequate for our needs - Location Parking should be prioritised for residents
- Carla (10/5): -
- Marco (9/5): Heerlijke accommodatie terug in de tijd op een mooie locatie. - Mooie locatie met heerlijke Engelse sfeer. Niets.

The beds were comfortable
The staff were friendly Twin beds were quite narrow but we didn’t fall out so all ok
- Gordon (8/5): enjoyable stay and a nice Hotel as we spent the evening in the bar with good company - The room was nice and large and a nice comfortable bed good shower The room was a ‘bit tired’ and the extractor fan in the shower was not working
- emmagC1254AK (10/5): Lovely food, friendly staff - This is the 2nd time this week we've been to The Fleece. I had the cod special tonight and it was beautifully cooked. The staff were friendly and attentive
- Sarah (8/5): Sarah DI - The staff were brillient friendyl and helpful The wholo place was a bit shabby, in desparate need of a face lift
- Philbin (8/5): - Excellent evening meal and breakfast. Coffee was delicious.
All the staff were lovely
- Laura (9/5): - The staff were really accommodating and helpful. The service and food was great. The stay it's self was good. Only thing is the rooms could do with a little tlc but didn't affect the stay, overall clean and tidy.
- 926padraige (10/5): Valentines meal - We arrived for a Valentine’s booking and was shown to a lovely table where Fia came and took our order and laughed at all our rubbish jokes. The food was great and the service was better even amending my order after I forgot to order peppercorn sauce. Great staff, good food. Overall very lovely
- Neil (10/5): Stayed here on a business trip, the rooms were clean with everything you’d expect, tea, coffee, water etc. the food in t - Charming and welcoming
- Dan (8/5): -
- alex (9/5): - Staff superb. N/a
- Mary (7/5): -
- Lyndsay Mary (5/5): Was near to where we were visiting and staff were friendly - It was quite near to the kitchen company that we needed to visit and the town itself was nice The breakfast was Luke warm and not value fur money as was £20.00 per person and we waited a long time for it .our room had clean sheets but the window cills were dirty and windows and the room needed an update !! Our friends however had a decent room.
- Happiness03326812031 (10/5): Meeting up with friends - We have visited The Fleece several times but have never eaten there. Our waitress Fia was amazing so happy and friendly but most importantly she knew everything about the menu and nothing was too much trouble. The food was also really good and tasty, the only criticism was that the plates were cold.
- Samuel (1/5): -
- Robert (8/5): -
- Michael (8/5): - Room old but acceptable, everything else good there was a smell as you went up the stairs to the 1st floor
- Kay (10/5): Where ever I stay I want above all things to be staying in a clean place. - All the staff were excellent, the rooms were lovely and clean. The food has something to offer for everyones taste. Great location.
- Helen (7/5): Very pleasant - Hi room was lovely but would have like natural light apart from sky lights, felt a bit costraphobic. No natural light, or fruity tea bags
- Linda (9/5): We really enjoyed all aspects of our stay (except for the 3 critiques) Your village is beautiful! - The food and the service were very nice.
Your Guinness was a welcome relief as in the US it doesn’t quite taste the same….
The hotel and food service people were 100% nice! Our room window carried sound and smoke from the patio garden.
It would be helpful for the owners to install hand bars for easier access in and out of tub/shower!
Perhaps a permanent glass fixture (screen) for tub/shower
- angela (10/5): Wonderful - Just a lovely stay, lovely staff
- Mr Mark G (10/5): Loved it! Great service - Amazing place to stay. Most enjoyable i've stayed at for a while. Great food at dinner and breakfast. Lovely room too. The customer service was brilliant throughout.
- sally (9/5): -
- Edward (9/5): -
- nickbW65MD (8/5): Great for lunch - Good tasty food at reasonable prices. Served hot as was the coffee. We at on a Saturday lunchtime, we didn't stay at the hotel.
- rogerthewlis (10/5): First class food - Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Booking was very straightforward.
- craig (9/5): - The staff were always willing to help no matter what. Food was excellent, rooms are comfortable and a very central location. Highly recommended
- Ruth (9/5): - Friendly staff, very welcoming. We left something in the room & they called to let us know so we could collect it which was very appreciated.
Rooms were nicely decorated & breakfast was very tasty with good portion sizes Towel heater in one of the rooms didn’t work properly, making the bathroom quite cold
- Neil (9/5): - Wry
- Nikki (7/5): Not the best - Beautiful area. The whole pub/hotel is tired and needs a good lick of paint
- Dominique (10/5): -
- Gooding (9/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): Due to the care of the staff would recommend the Fleece. We were disappointed with the loo. - The staff who run the Fleece were lovely and very accommodating. The food in the restaurant was of a good standard and so was the quality of the wine. The location is beautiful. There was a very poor flush on the lavatory in our bathroom. It felt like the waste pipe may have a blockage someway down the line before our stay, which was certainly evident when we first and subsequently tried to use it. The bathroom was very cold with no discernable heating. There was a lack of extra obvious power sockets where we could charge our devices without choosing between Kettle, TV or extra heating on a very cold night.
- andy0x (8/5): Great food - I have visited this pub twice in December once with a large group having the standard Christmas menu and again on Christmas Eve with family, whee we had the standard menu and Christmas menu. The service from all staff was very efficient and friendly where nothing was too much trouble.
The food was reasonably priced and very good quality. I would highly recommend Thd Fleece.
- Henrymcleanlow (10/5): Brilliant, again - thank you!! - Another fantastic meal! We booked the private room for a large pre-Christmas family gathering, and it didn’t disappoint.
The service was super friendly, and the food was outstanding. Despite a tricky booking with multiple allergies and changes to the set menu, everything was accommodated with a smile. The foot was really good and everyone enjoyed it.
For the first time, we also stayed overnight. The room was lovely, spacious, and very comfortable.
We brought our 4 legged family member and the dog bed and bag with treats and a ball was so sweet.
We also had breakfast the next day, and that veggie haggis is absolutely delicious – always a highlight.
Thanks again – we’ll be booking again soon!
Happy Christmas 🎄
- KEVIN (9/5): - Spacious room with lots of light . Lots of water , coffeee and biscuits which was excellent thank you . Pipe in the bathroom a little noisy after flushing toilet for about 5mins . Only blip.
- Shane (10/5): - Great location, very friendly staff 👍 👌 Car parking very limited.
- matthew (8/5): -
- Paula (9/5): -
- Christine (4/5): Good location needs updating and new bed - Good location Tired looking and bed very very uncomfortable
- Ian (10/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): -
- Necato (10/5): - Le personnel était très disponible, l'emplacement est parfait, avec un pub/restaurant au rez de chaussée Les toilettes étaient bruyantes et longues a se remplir ce qui pouvait déranger pendant la nuit.
- Scott (10/5): Staff went out of their way to be helpful and were exceptionally friendly - Tea tray and biscuits - excellent Nothing
- trixiejellycat (6/5): A wonderful meal, great atmosphere…however…. - We had a really lovely meal…great food and a fab atmosphere! The bar staff were friendly and really efficient on a busy evening. Our table waitress was attentive and charming…unfortunately I didn’t get her name but she was an absolute credit to The Fleece! Unfortunately our evening was ruined by Daniel…he was extremely rude and dismissive towards us. This is such a shame as aside from him I would have rated 5 stars.
- Jo (10/5): -
- Terri (10/5): -
- Q5537JZvictoriaw (10/5): Lovely welcoming pub and restaurant - Lovely location. Visited on our first night on holiday and was a lovely meal. Really nice restaurant area and the food was lovely, especially the croquettes. Service was lovely and really enjoyed the visit. There was also a lovely beer garden, but was just a bit too cold to sit outside on our visit.
- Les (8/5): Friends reunion - Have stayed before , and have always enjoyed
- 588annj (10/5): A Night Full of Laughter, Superb Food & Outstanding Service! - We had such a fantastic time – and it was all thanks to Daniel! His hilarious humour had us laughing from start to finish. Honestly, we weren’t sure if we’d booked a dinner or a comedy show – either way, it was brilliant!
The food was absolutely superb – not one moan - every dish was delicious. It’s rare to find a place where both the service and the food are outstanding, but this was one of those gems.
Daniel is a true star – someone give him a pay rise so he doesn’t leave! We’ll definitely be returning.
- Toni (6/5): Great staff comfy bed but room and bathroom need upgrading. - The staff were excellent The room needs upgrading window in bathroom moldy and didn’t open, couldn’t turn radiator off curtain not hanging properly
- Mark (9/5): - The staff were very welcoming, the location was perfect. We were in Witney to attend a wedding; we would have liked to have better hanging space for our clothing.
- Kay (9/5): - The staff were lovely and very helpful. I had a lovely room except the windows were in the roof, so no view.
- charlesandrewp2025 (10/5): May be best meal around? - The meal and service were top drawer. We had been tempted in by the advertised special deal for Beef Wellington and paired Malbec. Aced it.
- Sara (9/5): -
- karenbell58 (10/5): Great Hotel - What a great hotel … a warm welcome and the room (no 11) was comfortable, clean and well decorated, as was the en suite. We didn’t stay for dinner but the menu looked varied , as did breakfast. Witney is a lovely place to visit .
- Karen (10/5): Brilliant.. would stay again - Lovely room with very comfortable bed .. everything including en-suite was clean and up to date Nothing
- Kerry (10/5): We wanted to stay somewhere a bit special for a night away. The Fleece exceeded our expectations. It is a cosy hotel ful - The Fleece is beautiful. It’s peaceful, welcoming and well maintained. There are little touches of opulence in the main bar/dining areas and the rooms. There is nothing that we didn’t like. It’s a beautiful place to stay.
- Chilaili (10/5): Fabulous as always - This was possibly our 8th or even 10th time of staying at The Fleece and yet again they did not disappoint. It’s absolutely lovely to be greeted by one of the managers (Sam Stanley) upon arrival and have him be genuinely happy to see us! We got our usual room, which was warm and comfortable, a fabulous walk-in shower, very quiet as it’s away from the main part of the restaurant and bar. Breakfast and evening snacks were delicious, the coffee was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Fleece also has excellent wi-fi and streaming, which is important when it’s pouring with rain outside and you don’t fancy getting soaked looking for entertainment elsewhere in town.
Sam Stanley is a real gem too. Outgoing, attentive, passionate about his work, especially the food and wines the hotel serves, and a lot of fun to chat with. This is not to say the other manager(s) are not as good – we simply haven’t interacted with them as much. We’re always very happy to see him when we check in.
- Lisa (10/5): Just lovely - We really liked how warm and friendly the staff were. The room and restaurant were lovely. The meals were delicious. So glad we found the Fleece, we would recommend to all.
Thank you for a great stay. Nothing

- P8042JJshelleyw (6/5): Disappointing welcome and slow service - Visited on a Saturday lunchtime. On arrival the staff continued chatting amongst themselves and didn’t acknowledge us for some time. We were then shown to our table with little more than a vague gesture, which set a poor tone.
Service was very slow. Slow enough that we skipped dessert because we couldn’t wait any longer. Once seated, the waitresses serving our table were polite and efficient, but the initial indifference had already put a dampener on the meal.
Starters and mains were nicely presented and tasted fine, just nothing memorable or distinctive.
Overall a disappointing experience and I wouldn’t return or recommend based on this visit.
- Christineb187047 (10/5): Meeting friends midway. - What a find! Met friends in Witney and visited the Blanket Hall before dining late afternoon in The Fleece. All of our meals were excellent. I had Padron Peppers followed by Pheasant and to finish I had a Sticky Toffee Pudding. Excellent menu, good wine and lovely staff. Would love to visit again and maybe stay,as they have rooms .
- NikkiLouise28 (10/5): Fab time - Lovely meal, great drinks. Sam was fab! Cocktails were great, banter was on point and food was really lovely. Recommend!
- traceysQ2646TJ (10/5): Fabulous lunch - I took my husband to The Fleece in Witney for lunch on his birthday. Everything was perfect - the food, prosecco, ambience and service. Topped off with 2 delicious desserts, explained in full. Both of the managers were very friendly and attentive. We will be going back soon.

- Kimon (3/5): Would not recommend the accommodation, not good value for money. - The restaurant meals were good quality. The accommodation was old, tired, damp and smelly.
- Mark (9/5): - great stay, lovely location and food was great. lovely staff n/a
- Sarah (9/5): -
- Ryan (10/5): Fantastic Dream like experience - The place was just incredible from the time we walked in we were greeted with a smile and gave us loads of information about the property.
- Helen N (9/5): Lovely pub hotel in great location. The Staff were great, really helpful and friendly. - Friendly staff. Hotel had everything we needed for a one night stay. In a nice location, wasn't too noisy but still central. Parking was limited but we had been made aware of that prior to arrival. Nothing to complain about.
- Ian (8/5): Great location in the middle of Witney, comfortable room and good breakfast. Quite a trendy watering hole. Duvet a bit h -
- deniserP5725TD (10/5): Great Food and Service - Great food and service. Lovely ambience. Our server was Shefia Fa who was smiley, professional and very efficient - thank you!
- Brian (10/5): Nice rooms and amazing steak!! - Friendly staff and lovely food.. maybe one of the best steaks ever tasted.
Room was large and well equipped. Over looked the beer garden but no noise after 10 so that was fine. Small car park to the rear but ample for the guests.
Hoping to stay here again.
