- Danielle (10/5): A lovely place to eat and stay - A lovely pub with fab rooms. Stayed in one of the lodge rooms which were gorgeous! All mod cons, clean, well-presented and a great bonus of a balcony. Had our evening meal in the pub which was delicious! Highly recommend the bbq platter.

- Arleta (10/5): - It was lovely and clean and quiet with everything we needed and like that it is pet friendly as well as food was great and service, easy parking and all the little bits in the room were very convenient, very lovely and friendly staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic experience and will be back - Comfortable bedroom and so good for dogs. The area, the surroundings, the treatment from staff, all excellent. The food was surprisingly incredible (venison was to die for) and I’d go back there just for it. My dog got a sausage for breakfast which was a genuinely kind gesture. 10/10. Lovely area to walk around with cute farm animals next door.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Food & accommodation very good Staff friendly and efficient
- Graham (10/5): Very nice two night stay - Stayed for two nights. All the staff were wonderful. Excellent Sunday roast and breakfast buffet. Room was a little small but had everything we needed and was very clean. I’d recommend trips to nearby Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey and Ripon.
- Brendan (10/5): - Fantastic place to stay, was perfect for us when visiting Harrogate and North Yorkshire. Staff were excellent, super polite and helpful, showed us to our room and nothing was too much trouble during breakfast. Was nice to see staff take so much pride in their hospitality. Room was clean and stylish, extra points for a modern bathroom, with the balcony area being great for sitting out in the stars and chatting. Would happily go back here. Place was 10/10, and in a great location for transport too
- Sophie (8/5): - Could do with more staff at dinner and breakfast. Slow service but not because of ineffective staff - they were just rushed off their feet!
- Gary Kurt (10/5): Outstanding experience. - Just stay. You will not be disappointed. The staff are excellent and so friendly. It makes all the difference. Rooms are top class. Food was sublime. It’s very clear there is an excellent ethos to excel. We will be back for sure.

- J Louise (10/5): Highly recommended - Highly recommend for both accommodation and food.
- Andrea and Shanna (10/5): - Lovely room and delicious food, will definitely be back
- ADELE (10/5): Excellent stay - Excellent stay, great food and gf options, plentiful breakfast, really comfortable and well equipped room
- Judith (10/5): Little gem - Location was good in between Knaresborough and Ripon . Quiet even though on main road . Double room was good, staff polite , friendly and professional . Parking free when staying at inn.
Had evening meal and breakfast both good standard.
- Mary (10/5): - We stayed here whilst we visited the Great Yorkshire Show. Ideal for travelling to and from the show. Staff were at the Inn were not only friendly but very helpful. We had a toddler with us and having an outside space was ideal for us all
Staff are a credit to the owners and we would definately stay again
- Deborah (8/5): - Very nice , good food, great service
- Denise (10/5): - Beautiful property, thoughtfully presented breakfast and dining room. Staff very courteous and friendly and dinner in a cosy surrounding.
Well done
- Shona (10/5): - We recently had the pleasure of staying at The Inn South Stainley, and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and genuinely pet friendly something we deeply appreciated as we were travelling with our dog. Our superior room was beautifully presented, spacious, and featured a comfortable bed that guaranteed a restful night’s sleep. The balcony opened onto the garden, offering a serene spot to enjoy a morning coffee while our dog explored the safe and well-kept outdoor area. It truly felt like a home away from home—for both us and our four-legged companion. The dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. Breakfast featured local, glorious produce, and the bacon and black pudding were unlike anything we’ve tasted before rich, flavourful, and perfectly cooked. For dinner, we had the sirloin steak, and it was genuinely the best we’ve ever had tender, cooked to perfection, and served with real attention to detail. What truly sets The Inn apart, however, is the staff. The team was friendly, caring, and impressively efficient. Their attentiveness and warm hospitality added so much to the overall experience. The location is great for easy access to Ripon, Ripley Castle, Harrogate, & Knaresborough, is a perfect blend of comfort, quality, and genuine hospitality. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, a base for exploring local gems, or a luxurious pet-friendly escape, this gem of a place ticks every box.
- John (10/5): - Anyone looking for a short stay, or base for visiting Fountains Abbey or other local attractions should consider the Inn. The property is clean bright and feels new. The room we stayed in was small but beautifully finished and set out. All the meals were really good, Haddock was huge and the Steak pie delicious. Staff friendly and helpful. All so good.
- Jeremy (10/5): - Food and vide were great :)
- simon (10/5): - Absolutely beautiful room and very helpful staff
- Jillian (10/5): Good place for weekend break. - The hotel staff were all friendly, welcoming and happy to help. We mentioned it was our 50th wedding anniversary and we were surprised by a lovely complimentary desert.
- Michelle (10/5): Excellent - Great location lovely stay nice decor food was amazing we eat evening meal and had the breakfast both really good we went with our Cockapoo the superior rooms works well if you have a fury friend. Staff we really friendly great service
Highly recommend would definitely stay again
- Dan (10/5): Perfect - Great place will be staying again
- Mark (10/5): - Rooms were lovely and clean and food in the restaurant was excellent
- Victoria (6/5): Has potential but needs a few extras! - Lovely looking room, with a great shower. Visitors should be aware that 10 of the rooms are in a separate building, which we were in. The room only had a radiator, and no aircon, which meant when the heating was pumping out it was boiling. There was a fan in the room but took forever to cool down. When we turned the radiator down it was then freezing in the morning. The mattress was too firm for us and the pillows are terrible. One pillow is not enough, two is too much and both far too firm! There is also no fridge, which is silly when the room is big enough and you’re away from the main building. There is also no shelf/stand to put your luggage on. Again, there is plenty of room to add this. Breakfast was disappointing, with only standard tea and coffee included in the price. We waited over 30mins for our food to be served. I had the boiled eggs which were really nice, but my partner ordered poached eggs (these were nice), mushrooms and tomatoes. The mushrooms were burnt and crunchy and the tomatoes were still hard. We notified the waiter who took them back, but when the new plate was delivered, this time they were both under cooked. Overall, we would not stay again.
- Mark (8/5): - Amazing service and so well looked after by the staff. Made our stay so much
- Tegid (10/5): - Superb property everything 5 star
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Celebrating with friends. Comfortable, parking easy, close to Ripon, Harrogate, Knaresborough, lovely drives nearby. Menus provided good choice, staff excellent.
- Linda (8/5): - There was plenty of parking. You have to record your registration number at reception to avoid a charge.
We received a friendly welcome and were shown to room 4. The room was quite large and was well appointed, however, despite the radiator being on, the room was very cold and unwelcoming. When we returned after our meal in the bar, the room was still very cold and remained so throughout our stay. The bathroom was also very chilly.
I mentioned this when we checked out. The receptionist said that the boiler must be on the blink again, but did not offer of an apology.
The evening meal and service were good, but the whole pub was not very warm. Fortunately we sat in front of the log burner.
- Adrian (10/5): - Very clean
Service and food very good
- Arran (10/5): Lovely place - Lovely welcome and lovely room in the garden. Enjoyed the evening food too, friendly hosts. Will stay again when in the area, recommend.
- Sergio (10/5): Nice atmosphere and delicious food - Very much enjoyed our stay. The room was very clean and had everything we needed. Bed was very comfortable and staff very friendly. Food at the inn was also very good and it had a nice atmosphere. Would definitely stay there again.
- Shane (10/5): It deserves the excellent reviews given - Start to finish a great experience
- Gemma (10/5): - Pub & room was lovely, no complaints. Food and drinks in pub were good. Bus stop directly outside to Harrogate, saved us driving in so that was a bonus.
- Kevin (10/5): - Had a lovely room in the grounds with it's own balcony. Loved to see and hear nature on the doorstep.
Didn't have Dinner but breakfast was excellent.
Loved the fact we were central to visit quite a lot of historic towns.
- Chris (10/5): Amazing 5* - Absolutely Amazing! Extremely clean rooms and entire pub/restaurant.
Staff were friendly, lovely breakfast
Will definitely book again
- Claire (10/5): What a great stay - We have had the best experience. this stay was more of a stop off and it’s turned into one of the best stays we have had. We travelled with a dog and he was fully catered for. He could stay with us for our evening meal and also join us for breakfast with the addition of a sausage just for him. The food and the choice for both evening meal and breakfast was vast and absolute quality reasonably priced.
We were in a lodge overlooking the garden which was warm and cosy and had everything we needed. We are sad to be only staying one night, this place is a total gem
- ross (10/5): - Wow what a find, the place is really nice to stay at our room was lovely with loads of space and a nice on suite. The room and the pub/ hotel is very clean and spacious. The staff are absolutely lovely nice people to talk to who are very helpful and attentive and the food well the food is excellent nicely presented and very tasty. We will have no hesitation in booking here again for another stay it’s very quiet at night even though it’s on a main trunk route and has a big car park so no problems parking. There seemed to be a fair few people in the place on an evening to eat even though we were there on a Monday and Tuesday so it shows that the place is well regarded for its food. All in all a really great place to stay or have a meal.
- Mary (10/5): Beautiful room - Our stay was perfect. The staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely stay - Very pleasant stay, nice decor, food and good cleanliness. Felt very comfortable and staff were friendly and attentive
- John (10/5): Excellent stopover - Last year we stayed at the Inn to break our journey from Hampshire to Northumberland, and it worked so well we’ve repeated the exercise. It’s a few miles off the A1(M), it worth the short detour. Our rooms have been in to main building, and both have been recently fitted out to a good standard. Breakfast. Is held in a room with good garden views and is excellent. We ate in the restaurant and bar on different evenings. The menu is identical for both segments. The menu is interesting and the food itself is really good. When next we venture to the North we would plan to return to the Inn.
- Andrea (10/5): - We were in one of the lodge rooms , which was very nice . Heating was good and very comfortable bed and a small place outside with table and chairs .
Luckily our room was at the back as the main road is quite busy , but we heard nothing
Would gladly stay here again
- Colin (8/5): - Garden room was awesome. Sadly found the food on the Sunday Evening
very disappointing
The staff were excellent, the ambience of the bar area was nice. Nice touch with a tray of treats and a card on our anniversary
- Chris (10/5): - Perfect for a short break in North Yorkshire. This was our second visit and once again did not disappoint. Lovely comfortable room, delicious tasting food, very welcoming staff and great location.
- Linda (8/5): - Good food, pleasant helpful staff, comfortable room. Fair cost for stay, very unhappy with extra £30 charged by Expedia!
- Gordon (10/5): - A very pleasant stay in a lovely room. The food and service were very good and our dog was made to feel very welcome (which makes life easier!!). The Inn is welcoming and the grounds very well laid out - would recommend!
- Arwel (10/5): - First time at the property and enjoyed everything about our stay for 2 nights.
Enjoyed that much booked for 3 night's in October!!
- Peter (10/5): - We stayed at The Inn as stop over, travelling north to south.
It was a wonderful place to stay, and really good value.
Room and food were both excellent
- Ian (10/5): Fantastic place and fantastic food. - High quality excellent food. We were looked after well by the friendly staff. Great ambience. Couldn't be better.
- Julie (10/5): - Comfortable, relaxing, spacious inn. Lovely, friendly staff
Great menu choices, top quality food.
Stayed x2 nights, found by chance, will definitely be back soon.
- Vivienne (10/5): - A great hotel and extremely dog friendly. Rooms, and bed, are large and comfy and we had our own enclosed, outside terrace with seating so our dog could wander in and out the room without worry of escaping (would be good for people with younger children as well) and a gate so it was easy to take our dog out without going through the hotel itself. The pub restaurant is lovely and food is delicious (both evening meals and breakfast). Staff are friendly - especially the breakfast staff who spoilt our dog with sausages. Great location to explore Yorkshire. Very reasonably priced. Thank you for having us.
- Steven (10/5): - Wonderful stay, great room with nice facilities and superb attention to detail.
Food was fabulous , from an evening meal in the restaurant to a simply wonderful Breakfast selection, wonderful service from obviously well trained staff, one of the best stays Ive had anywhere to be honest
- Graham (10/5): - A great base for exploring the surrounding area. We found the property to be everything we needed. The staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and very approachable.
- Joshua (10/5): - Amazing pub and stay for the night. Modern and nice accommodation, friendly staff, very catering for our dog along with great food and drinks. Would highly recommend
- Louise (10/5): Lovely food and the staff were very attentive - Lovely stay, staff couldn’t do enough for us. We had Sunday lunch which was superb and the breakfast was amazing. Rooms were immaculate and the gardens made you feel you weren’t staying in a pub. Thoroughly recommended and if we’re in the area again, we would definitely stay here next time
- Anne (10/5): - Overnight stay was very enjoyable. Big, comfortable room, good food and pleasant helpful staff. Good location.
- Brian (10/5): Nothing seemed too much trouble - Enjoyable stay and would stay again.
- Helen (8/5): - Our room could have been bigger , dog friendly, lovely gardens , lovely sitting out area attached to room, comfy bed .
- Verified traveler (10/5): An unexpected pleasure. - Excellent value for money. Everything we needed in the room, clean, and plenty of parking.
A wonderful breakfast, with plenty of choice.
- Stanley (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay, relaxing location and the food was exceptional
- John (10/5): - What can I say, EXCELLENT
- Pam (10/5): Highly Recommend - We stayed at the Inn South Stainley for 2 nights in July on a brief sightseeing trip to the area with friends. We chose the Inn because of its proximity to the places we wanted to visit and the very good impression that was given on its website. We were very pleased with the whole package. The Inn is a very well appointed hotel/restaurant with comfortable, well decorated and dressed rooms. Our standard double could have been a bit bigger to be honest but it was beautifully clean and well appointed. We had a very good evening meal in the restaurant - no complaints at all. The breakfast choices were pretty good too. The staff were lovely - friendly and very helpful. We also thought the gardens were gorgeous - a bonus to be able to sit outside on a nice evening. We would definitely consider staying here again if we're in the area. Thank you all so much.
- Andrew (10/5): Well worth a visit. - Amazing staff very welcoming, great food and the breakfast is outstanding. Highly recommend.
- Stephen (6/5): - Lovely rooms and very clean but a lot of road noise. Staff very good but food was really poor.
- Bridget (10/5): WOW!!! - Stayed here this weekend … WOW.
Accommodations:
Outstanding. Modern, spacious with your own little patio area. Super dog friendly. Very secure (they even have gun cabinets in each room)! Excellent touches such as a very informative guest guide, luxury toiletries and a fabulous beverage station.
Restaurant/ Bar: describing this as a gastro pub does not do this just. Warm and inviting with high end furnishings. Drink options are plentiful (including a great deal of non alcoholic options).
Food is superb (both evening and breakfast … couldn’t fault it).
Outside is fabulous and well designed with tent shelters, log burners etc.
Parking: plentiful and FREE!
Staff: Go above and beyond to help you (our daughter was unfortunately poorly and they couldn’t do enough … bottled water, toast offers of help).
Cannot recommend this place enough … totally fabulous!
- Sue (10/5): - The rooms were neat and tidy, room rate high for size of room. On the plus side the staff were attentive and kind seeing to our every need.
I was attending a wedding the whole experience for the bride and groom was excellent.
The food was exceptional a big thank you to the chef and his team. F and B kind friendly and efficient
An all round thank you for making the day so special.
- Kieran (10/5): - Very friendly, helpful staff.
Location beside the A61 road requires some care when leaving northward.
Small green 'pilot' light in our room ceiling, near the door, on all night and slightly irritating.
- Anthony (10/5): Weekend Break - Had a really good couple of days at the Inn. It was just my wife and I plus our little dog, which was also made to feel welcome with a sausage for breakfast. That said, we were charged an additional £12.50 per night for taking him with us. The restaurant was a little pricey also but the food was very good so no complaints. Overall a really good couple of days with some great walks available from the site.
- john (8/5): 60 th - Clean but rooms are not big
- douglas (10/5): Lovely room , great food - Large comfy room , great restaurant using locally sourced & supplied food , finally fantastic service from everyone from the young lad who brought the dishes , to the bar staff and the assistant manageress ( great job all around )
- Paul (10/5): Lovely place - Lovely place to stay, nice rooms and very friendly staff
- Karen (10/5): - we had a lovely relaxing break for my birthday, the food was lovely, accomodation very good and the hotel was beautifully decorated.
All the staff were very helpful, the only issue we had was the cleaner left our room door unlocked one of the days which was a little concerning
- Barry (10/5): Last minute night away - We found this place to have lunch, the weather was nice. We were in a central location. So we looked online, booked, stay the night and had another day in the area.
- Michael (6/5): - Excellent staff very friendly and helpful. Food on the expensive side. Main failing was servicing of the room.. shower not cleaned etc. also we had a room in the main building which is close to a main road no double glazing noisy at night.
- Ed (10/5): - The staff were extremely friendly and efficient and the decor stunning. The food was delicious and a very large and comfortable bed with a nice patio area attached to our ground floor room.
We had a great overnight stay but do bring a dog friendly attitude if you sleep in a lodge type room and be aware of roadside location. That said, it was great value for money with a luxurious feel and we would highly recommend and hope to stay again. Good central location too. Well done the whole team!! Thank you.
- Katina (10/5): - Very nice one night stay at The Inn. Checked in the car in the bar area, then got our key and was shown to our room. Free wifi. The room and bathroom was spacious and well decorated. Double doors to small veranda with a table and two chairs over looking the surrounding grassed area that is tree lined. Peaceful and very pleasant. We had an evening meal and dessert. The menu had great choices. What we had for breakfast was delicious. All the staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly.
- Heather (10/5): - Amazing find. Beautiful room in a lovely setting.
Evening meal excellent as was breakfast.
Staff very welcoming would definitely stay there again.
- keith (8/5): Disappointed - Owner had confusion over included breakfast although it clearly shows it on my booking receipt.
He did honour it in the end, but i shouldn't have to 'discuss' it at check in like he is doing me a favour when i've already paid for it.
Room was spacious. Parking ok.
Bar & restaurant looked very nice although not used in the evening.
Shame about the breakfast issue, spoiled what could have been a great experience
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely, clean and welcoming, rooms are spacious and have a lovely modern comfortable feel! The only thing we would change is the firmness of the pillows provided, quite firm but other than that we cannot complain. Would definitely stay here again.
- Peter (10/5): - Excellent stay, convenient for Dales, shou;d have styed additional night.
- Garry (10/5): - Everything was first class and excellent value. Food fantastic and staff great. What a find!
- Catherine (10/5): Will be back…. - Great stay, very clean and comfortable room, really good shower, lovely assortment tea and coffees in the room. Before we left we booked to come back again.
- Michael (8/5): - Rooms were starting to show signs of wear. Staff excellent. Food and drink options were excellent
- Michael (10/5): Simply great. - We stayed for a 2 night getaway and we really enjoyed ourselves. Room was excellent, clean warm with everything needed. Had 2 evening meals which were very tasty and good size portions. But the real winner was the breakfast. My wife said it was the best cooked breakfast she had ever had and I agreed. All staff were kind and courteous. Had an amazing trip to fountains abbey it was such a
wonderful place.
- David (10/5): - The rooms the breakfast the staff 10/10 one issue was the pillows weren't comfortable to hard other than that perfect
- Karen (10/5): Beautiful hotel and welcoming staff…… - From the moment we arrived the staff were very attentive, friendly and professional. The hotel itself is modern but is very cosy and welcoming and has a lovely country pub vibe to it. We stayed in a classic double room which was small but adequate for our needs as we weren’t in it much. The food was delicious and we were pleasantly surprised by the choice. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to family & friends!
- Joanne (10/5): Anniversary Trip - Brilliant stay at The Inn, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left the experience was brilliant, the manager is fantastic, the food amazing and the rooms beautiful! Hopefully we will be able to eat and stay again!!
- Deborah A (10/5): - We stayed at The Inn South Stainley from the 21st Feb till 23rd Feb, on arrival our booking did not state that we had a dog with us, so the duty manager had to do a little jiggling around to put us in a dog friendly room, even tho I had booked with a dog.. however it worked out better for us as no stairs to climb, the room we were in was very clean and comfortable,it was seperate from the main hotel part, however the gardens surrounding us were well kept, with a balcony area with seating and a table, there was a tented seating area with a patio heater and lots of seating and tables underneath, would be fabulous in the warmer weather, even had a doggy bed and water bowl for our jack russell, she was allowed to come and dine with us on the first evening and also breakfast, which was great, have stayed in places before and dogs weren't allowed in dining rooms. The food was very good, and ample selection from the breakfast menu and buffet table, the staff were excellent, very friendly and pleasant.
The hotel is central to visit areas around, Harrogate, Ripon, Knaresbourough
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely hotel staff were so friendly will definitely be back
- Amanda (10/5): Lives up to 5 stars 🌟 - Really lovely stay. Excellent breakfast
- David (10/5): Doggy Break for Half Term. - Made really welcome on arrival, we were shown to the room, where our two dogs were well catered for. A dog bed each and a bowl of water. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. We had Sunday lunch, which was fab, generous portions and really tasty. The breakfasts were also good. Given it was included, I had low expectations. But I was wrong. All freshly prepared and a good selection of cooked and non cooked options.
- Kelly (10/5): - We stayed in the outside cabins. Room was spotless, great size and had everything we needed. Food in the pub was some of the best weve had. The breakfast, which was included, was fantastic. Service was outstanding and we were made to feel at home. Will definitely return.
- Andrew (10/5): Excellent stay - Absolutely perfect from start to finish
- Brian (10/5): - Great hotel, lovely staff, super food choices, our garden room very modern comfortable and quiet.
