Guest Reviews
- Tertius (8/5): -
- Jennifer (9/5): - The unit with the pool is lovely It’s quite far off the beaten track but was worth the visit!
- Joe (8/5): -
- Brian (9/5): Excellent escape into the bush. Night skies exceptional. - The night skies are exceptional and the attention to visitors wishes to be private were appreciated I would have loved to be able to leave doors and windows open if there was a screen against bugs etc.
- Marli (9/5): Perfect place to stay if you want to escape the ratrace. - The swimmingpool was like an oasis in a desert.. complimented by the most beautiful tree. Not that it bothered us, but you have to have a bakkie or 4x4 to get there (gravelroads).
- Jürgen (10/5): -
- Josias (10/5): - Beautiful area,
Beautiful trees (Daberas) infront off the house.
- chouboule (9/5): Amazing experience far away from civilisation - Everything but the quiet and scenery are spectacular.
Location is good for exploring the area being about 1h away from Augrabies falls and 2 h away from the Riemvasmaak hot springs. If you have a 4x4 you can also do game drives or drives in the dry riverbed on their property. So plan to stay at least 4 nights to enjoy everything.
Relaxing in the pool.
You can also ask the owner to prepare meals for you and the beef filet with a pepper sauce is a must after a long day of getting there or exploring. The fridge is rather noisy.
That we didn’t manage to see everything due to the weather.
Leaving
- Wayne (9/5): Peaceful, quiet and relaxing. Beautiful sunset. - Very friendly and helpful host and her dog, Cruiser!
- Tokkie (10/5): I will defintely go back when I get a chance - The setting is totally different - off the beaten track on a road much less traveled.
Great place to totally unwind and experience pure quiet and peace.
2 highlights are amazing starry nights and beautiful sun rise / sets The girls love a bath - the showers are great and if you can without a bath and use the awesome showers this isn't an issue.
Little black flies are pesky but bearable because its uniquely part of this experience.
- Johannes (10/5): Paradies mitten in der Wüste - Fantastische Unterkunft „in the middle of nowhere“!
- Alexander (10/5): -
- Jessie (10/5): -
- Davies (10/5): The views, the sunsets, the silence… all absolutely restorative. And the hosting is outstanding - warm, attentive and ge - Absolutely everything! This place is a piece of paradise! Hannecke has thought of everything and her attention to detail made our stay more than comfortable. The private pool was a game changer. We wanted for nothing during our stay. I only wish I had booked us for a little longer… two nights could easily have been more.
- Caspar (10/5): - Great location, stay at least 2 nights (due to travel)
Überdachte Terrassen an 2 Hausseiten. Alles was man braucht unbedingt vorher ausreichend einkaufen !
- Herbert (10/5): - Alles !! Vielen Dank
- Ed (10/5): Heerlijk verblijf. Eigenaresse is zeer gastvrij. Top Nvt
- Tania Verster (9/5): Amazing! - Everything about Daberas was amazing, especially the peace and quiet and seeing so many stars was stunning. The quality of the accommodation was superb and our host Hannecke and her husband were so helpful and accommodating. We will dedinitely go back. The only thing that was a little bit frustrating was not having a constant internet connection, but we worked around it.
- Nadine (7/5): Lovely relaxing stay, wifi was almost non-existent - It's a beautiful, well-equipped unit, with beautiful views and animals on the wider premises. The horses were a real treat, and the 4x4 drive to Swartberg is a must-do. It's a really easy drive with spectacular scenery. The wi-fi was practically non-existent. It was sporadic, and if you sent a whatsapp message it could take anything between one to four hours to be delivered. It took a while to inform our families that we arrived safely. Based on the description MTN signalled there, but that's not accurate. We drove about 8km if we really needed to get a message out. Fortunately, we spent a lot of time away from the unit, where we had signal.
- Clayton (10/5): - Lovely accommodation in a pristine environment. Loved exploring the area and will hope to return in the future.
- Van der Westhuizen (10/5): Greate - Self catering This was so nice
- Lesley Veiz (9/5): Spectacular scenery, great hosts and accommodation. Fantastic fauna and flora. Fascinating site. - Great hosts. Extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the farm and the area in general and very generous with their knowledge. Hospitable, kind and attentive.
Very comfortable well equipped accommodation.
- Rainer (10/5): Unglaubliche Unterkunft, tolle Lage und Atmosphäre. Leider war der Aufenthalt zu kurz. - Unglaubliche Unterkunft, tolle Lage und Atmosphäre.
Haus super ausgestattet. Landschaft auf der Farm sehr empfehlenswert.
Gastgeber sehr nett.
- Jacoba (10/5): The visit to experience TRANQUILITY - Serenity, remoteness, location, location, accessibility, facilities, hospitality. Sadly, so we had time for one night only , we would have loved to stay so much longer to be able to enjoy all the amenities and activities on the farm. The place to visit in the Green Kalahari Na
- Philip (10/5): Friends from Caledon. - Everything about this place is wonderful. Hanneke and Kobus are phenomenal hosts.. Next time definitely not one night. You cannot be closer to nature and the stars. Accommodation is just fantastic. Just go....you will not regret it. N/A
- Stephanus (9/5): Great place to switch off from every day life. - This is a beautiful guest farm with very comfortable self catering cottages. Amazing location to escape the city and enjoy farm life for a few days as well as some awesome 4 x 4 trails.
Hannecke is a lovely host with a lot of knowledge about the area. We will definitely be back again.
- Monique (9/5): We will be back!! - The stillness and vastness were amazing and the stars at night simply breathtaking. The hosts went above and beyond to make our stay so wonderfully comfortable and pleasant. It was really hot but we found refuge on the patio underneath the thatch roof or retreated to our cool bedroom. The outdoor shower was a treat but a little corrugated iron plunge pool would have been a great bonus ;) We were very grateful that the other guests left and we were able to use the swimming pool that belonged to the other little house on the property. The view of the mountains, from the bedroom windows, are obscured by a wooden fence but understand that it's to add privacy as a driveway passes by the window.
- Angelique (8/5): Very good -
- Allen (10/5): A different beauty - The surroundings provided perfect setting for family visit. It was cool inside the house although warm weather outside. Beautiful under the stars with at night and unforgettable sunsets. The road to the farm not the greatest but it did provide the seclusion that made it special
- Mitch (9/5): If you’re wanting remote and off grid this is for you. - Loved the remoteness. The stars were amazing. The breeze air was a godsend with the high temperature and the large fridge freezer perfect for storing our food. Kitchen was well equipped. The shade net structure around the brain was a little distracting. I feel this could have been constructed better in wood perhaps to shelter the wind.
- Louis (10/5): Exceptional - I liked the facilities and views. The silence was food for the soul. The sundowner trip to see the Nama plateau was excellent 👌 Nothing to complain, but I am sure this place is not for everyone as it is very remote
- Colin (10/5): Exceptional - Nestled in a remote, tranquil valley, this guest farm is an absolute gem. From the moment you arrive, you’re enveloped in a sense of peace and serenity that’s hard to find elsewhere. The views are nothing short of breathtaking, with rolling hills, expansive fields, and majestic mountains stretching as far as the eye can see. Every sunrise and sunset feels like a masterpiece painted just for you Nothing
- Antoinette (10/5): Exceptional - The gamedrive to the viewpoint was amazing; a once in a lifetime experience. The friendliness and hospitality from Hannecke and her family made our stay even more special.
- Janine (10/5): Absolutely awesome amazing accommodation - We stayed in Star Tree Lodge and this was our second time around, the splash pool was a delight, perfect for water beings. The accommodation was perfect, comfortable, pristine, private and had everything we needed. The 4x4 routes self drive were our escape to freedom, what an amazing experience and the farm is incredibly beautiful, the animals we viewed were awesome, Eland, Gemsbok, Springbok and we saw a Giraffe in the distance. Our host Hannecke is incredible and available for anything you require. This is one of our most popular places to stay, we loved the diversity, fresh air and silence. Our night skies were filled with the starlight stars, the stillness was a treat.
- Stephan (10/5): Exceptional - The property is slightly remote, but we did not mind touring this part of the country.
Host was friendly and met us at the chalet. Nothing
- Patricia (10/5): It is a privilege to be able to stay here, location is magical, food is so deliciously prepared by Hannecke, Guided tour - This is a magical place to stay -
- Ingrid (10/5): Stars and Star trees. - Remote location where you learn about nature when there’s not much rainfall. It’s amazing. Also you’re in nature, beautiful sunsets and stars. Beautiful Kokerbomen (quivertrees).
The house is very well equipped with a good shower, a comfortable bed and it’s very clean. There’s a kitchen that so you can self cater. We went there to visit the Augrabies NP which is a 50 minute drive away. But do contact the owner too: there are activities on the guest farm too, we did a sunset tour and got to see beautiful views. They made the remote accessible for my 78yo mom too with this tour. Hannecke one of the owners is (or has) an incredible cook, for an honest price she makes a meal so that’s something to ask about too. There are no G’s and the WiFi is just good enough to what’s app which is perfect way to deconnect without worrying your relatives No complaints.
- Pamela (10/5): Beautiful treasure of a place - Incredibly scenic place. The hosts were very considerate and communicative. A beautiful find in a secluded part of the world.
- Henriette (10/5): Daberas is tops - I think what I like the upper most is the fact that they thought of every little aspect to make it convenient to a guest. With all respect to men - it felt as if it was designed and furnished by a women who travelled a lot and know exactly 'What women want' ! To stay only one night. Could not drive to viewpoint, could not went for walks on the beautiful farm . Not if you stay only overnight. You need time to do all the nice things that is offered. Mind you - just to sit around the firepit with lovely serene surroundings is precious enough and totally worth an overnight stay.
- Costanza (9/5): Wonderful place in the wilderness - Very beautiful lodge with luxury finishes in a stunning environment, fully equipped kitchen, worth every mile of the drive to get there. Nothing
- Anton (9/5): Peaceful, modern, clean, friendly and on point. - Peaceful retreat with all amenities. Nothing
- Kate (9/5): Superb -
- Jasper (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janine (10/5): Perfect peace and happiness - The accommodation was very clean, spacious, the swimming pool was divine. The nature and tranquility of the place was amazing. Our host was delightful and extremely knowledgeable. If it was closer to our home we would be there every weekend. The landscape is absolutely gorgeous.
- Tracey (10/5): Kakamas - Daberas guest farm A MUST !! - Other worldly. For all those adventurous couples this destination may be a little out of the way from Kakamas but so worth the trip. The scenery, the hosts, the cottage is more than expected. We were able to do many activities from 4 x 4 drive to the most amazing lookout point - hot springs in Riemvasmaak, the wine/gin/brandy tasting at De Mas in Kakamas were easy to access but the drive into the Augrabies by Angelo of Daberas, the warm weather, stars at night, the rose quartz dazzle were food for the soul. Will be back! We could not stay longer
- Simone (10/5): Fantastic - If you ever want to experience a really quiet and special accommodation, you have to come here to Hanneke, Kobus and Angelo.
Warm and helpful hosts with great tips of what to do locally, really nice accommodations (we had the pleasure of using both) and the wonderful serenity were great.
The loudest noises around the campfire in the evening were the crackling of the firewood and the clinking of the ice cubes in the glass - and that with a spectacular starry sky. Simply fantastic.
We've experienced a lot on our travels - and it really is one of our accommodation highlights.
And if you're here - don't miss the great fillet when Hanneke offers it to you.
We had a great time - many thanks to you three.
Hope to see you again. Nothing
- Daniel (9/5): Superb - Awesome off the grid experience, great for any 4x4 enthusiasts that also enjoy a bit of comfort
- Sharon (9/5): a pleasant stay , slept fantastically well and of course the views from veranda are fabulous - Breakfast was not included but waking up in this beautiful venue makes up for the lack of breakfast . Hostess friendly and facilities are very neat . Braaing facilities are fantastic so take time to put your steak on the fire in the outside lapa This is one of the best accommodation I have stayed at and thus nothing to change
- John (9/5): A unique experience in the Northern Cape - We returned to stay at Daberas because of its unique situation and the starkness of the surrounding desert landscape. We repeated the sundowner trip, an absolute must, a two hour plus return trip to a world class view to watch the sun go down whilst sipping a glass of wine. Magic!
- Benjamin (10/5): Super happy - We were super happy we discovered this gem and will for certain return!!
- Le (10/5): Exceptional -
- Johannes (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robyn (10/5): Definitely be back, an unbelievable stay! - Beautiful beyond words! Cool inside, beautifully appointed houses with all you would possibly need and more
- Anton (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joubert (7/5): Wonderful! - Wonderful setting & atmosphere! Main bed noisy
Water pressure slightly problematic
Wifi signal weak, not recommended for work setting
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything about our stay. The location was amazing , and the hosts really looked after us, and they also made us the most delicious supper .
- Morne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karina (10/5): Exceptional - Off the grid- so peaceful, quiet- very nice to get away from all the “white noise” of the city. Natural beauty..
- Ulrich (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dune (6/5): Pleasant -
- Macklin (10/5): Daberas Farm is just stunning, both for walking and driving though the 4x4 trails. I would love to come back and experie - Daberas Farm is an absolutely stunning location, remote and peaceful, and right next to the Augrabies National Park. Ebony Lodge was well appointed, with beautiful furniture and outdoor/ braai area. Would have loved to be there for summer and use the outdoor bathroom.
Hannecke was extremely helpful, and offered for her husband to take us on an evening drive through the 4x4 trail as our vehicle wouldn’t make it. The drive was an absolute highlight of my time in this part of the country, and can’t recommend staying here enough The gas heater shower was a bit temperamental but such a minor part of a fantastic experience
- Louis (9/5): Had a great time in this well equipped cottage. Friendly service and helpful service. - Rooms are comfortable with nice outside dining area and fireplace. Beautiful area and nice drive into the mountains with river viewpoint. Comfortable good gravel road to Augrabies. Green shade net at braai but we understand the requirement for the wind.
- Jacques (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional - The location and the hosts Nothing
- Lindy (8/5): Very good - relaxing
- Mc (10/5): Exceptional - Time spent with loved ones in nature. Such Beautiful Facilities. All was done to perfection
- George (9/5): Superb -
- Brits (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leoni87 (10/5): Exceptional - This is really a gem in the kalahari. Beautiful scenery. Everything you need. The wifi signal was off 90% of the time, but I don't you can ask for more in such a remote place.
- Jan (10/5): Close to nature in a fine lodge where you feel comfortable and welcome - The location was unique. The lodge was the only building in tens of kilometers. The Augrabies terrain is very rough. Daberas can only be reached via a 50 km dirt road with fences that have to opened and closed and that is en adventure in it self. We made splendid trips in the surroundings amongst which the unique Oranje river.
The service was friendly and good. Meals were included, they were of good quality and prepared after consultation of preference. Daberas is a unique lodge. There is not a soul in all directions. Everything was great.
- Louis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (8/5): Very good -
- Gareth (10/5): Calm and relaxing with a stunning afternoon adventure drive - We had a lovely stay at the farm and we were all very impressed with the lodge we stayed in and the afternoon sunset drive. On our arrival we were welcomed by Nerina and she gave us a tour of the unit explaining how everything worked and showed us the 4 x 4 adventure map on all the places we could visit on the property. We thoroughly enjoyed the 4x4 adventure which included dry river beds, views and stunning terrain.
Thank you for the lovely stay. Cook family
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect. Pity we couldn't stay longer
- Wilfred (6/5): enjoyable - Location was remote, just like we like it
Quiet and peacefull Bed in main bedroom to high
No repellents for insects available
- David (10/5): We wish we could have stayed longer. This is a true gem! - What a find! Magical location!
- Eric (10/5): a special stay at a special place in the world. the place was exceptionally managed by a friendly onsite manager who had - the whole property was geared for a luxury desert and nature experience , from the outside bathtub for stargazing at night to the lapa and short walks into the Hilla. nothing
- Marjeanne (7/5): Good - Beautiful landscape and stars. House faced a sink barn. To far out from Augrabies National Park.
- Renier (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Sehr nette, interessierte, hilfsbereite Eigentümer.
Die Unterkunft ist super schön!
- Marc (10/5): Best place we stayed in SA. - Luxurious game lodge experience at non-touristy prices.
