Guest Reviews
- Doreen Mancuso (10/5): Different experience
It was totally different experience but I didn't like their kitchen. - It was different atmosphere, Like house in a tree, very quite, relaxing and peaceful. Location distance from shops. But I enjoyed walking to palm Beach and liked one small Cafe. But I preferred to stay more close to town which would have been more convenient.
- Katy Yang (9/5): Fantastic stay at a great property - Great property, very spacious and comfortable. Had everything we needed.
- Pip (8/5): -
- Shahrukh (10/5): -
- Courtney (9/5): Good Value for a Waiheke Stay - Good value for the money.
Clean and comfortable accommodation.
Laundry and dryer was excellent
Large bathroom with good shower
Hosts were great Multiple stairs probably 50 to walk up to get to accommodation can be very challenging for anyone with mobility issues also anyone carrying any larger luggage
Parking was a bit challenging
- Cathy (8/5): - Nice location but didn't have time to explore. Another charge for arriving at 9pm to get the keys for check in. Maybe a NZ thing that I am not use to as I am from the US.
- Suchada (10/5): -
- Marije (10/5): Fantastisch! - De locatie in de rust en natuur, prachtig. Super ruime veranda met heerlijke ligplek en tafel. Binnen veel ruimte, alles was er, ontbijt goed. Echt genoten!!! Nvt.
- Monique (3/5): Lack of accessibility not described in booking listing - There was nowhere on the list description that described the extremely poor access to this property. The listing states it is a gravel path. It is barely a path and is simply tree roots, no railing, no gravel just stones. Taking my frail 75yo mother here was the worst decision I made and made for concerning entry and exits. Especially when trying to get her inside in the dark (this forest "path" is completely pitch black at night). The host should advise of this lack of accessibility in the booking listing is my complaint here.
- Johanna (9/5): - Beautiful views into the green, big space and very cosy for us. Everything provided so simple cooking is possible.
- Karina (10/5): -
- Brett (10/5): Excellent and excellent hosts !!! - Our host was extremely helpful from booking to departure and even afterwards when she was kind enough to assist with alternative accommodation when we had to extend our stay.
- Jakub (9/5): -

- Valentina (10/5): Amazing place to stay and relax. Close to the best beach and super comfy. Highly recommended -
- Finn (8/5): -
- Robin (10/5): - Thank you Lance for this nice place. Enjoyed every minute!
- Lisa (9/5): Great place to stay. Would stay again - Peaceful location, great facilities.
Not an issue for us, but keep in mind a lot of steps to access the property, so not good if any mobility issues
- Rosanna Rakel (10/5): Awesome little stay, would definitely recommend - Very peaceful with lots of plants and big windows There was a little bit of a trek upstairs and the breakfast was very limited as a gluten free person
- Chris (7/5): - Location
- Ruth (10/5): Lovely birdsong up in the bush - The property was well appointed. Comfy space and well laid out. Good to have a washing machine and dryer to use. Lovely birdsong with the windows and doors open due to all the bush around. A beautiful spot to stay! We were unprepared for how many stairs there was to get to the property. It was a bit of a shock when we first arrived. We had a laugh and quickly got past it but a more clear warning of the hike up the stairs would have been good.
- charley (8/5): -
- Abdo (8/5): - Nothing bad to say. Everything was perfect ! Outside there is a walkway that was wet and mouldy. Unfortunately, we slipped and fell twice in the same morning. It was dangerous and could have been much worse.
- Zoë (9/5): Lovely and accommodating, we hope to come again with the kiddos - Lovely place tucked away in Palm Beach A bit hard to find in the dark, but we arrived very late and in daylight it was easy to see.
- Anna (10/5): - Trish was very nice, kind and caring. The house is spatious with great views!
- Valerie (9/5): - Being hidden away in the tree tops, yet having a view of the ocean. Really quiet, apart from lovely bird song. Welcoming host. Getting there by bus, then 1km walk along non paved hilly road and the eventual climb with our luggage up many steps and over tree roots to reach our little haven. Luckily we consider ourselves fit pensioners. Hired a car for last 24hrs which we probably should have done on arrival off the ferry.
- Milagros (10/5): - Cozy and spacious. The best beach in the island is super close.
- John (7/5): Quirky facilities, friendly hosts and quiet surroundings were great for our Waiheke experience. - Clean, quiet, surrounded by nature, helpful hosts Inconvenient access to kitchen sink,
Property access after dark would be challenging - recommend a hand rail or rope to navigate the steps from the road.
Strongly recommend caution tape applied to beam at entrance to laundry.
- Gagnol (10/5): -
- clement (8/5): -
- Jo (9/5): - clean and tidy, as described nothing
- clement (8/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): Relaxing stay with peaceful surroundings! - The perfect spot for us, we prefer a more rustic vibe! Was so nice out on the balcony and listening to the birds.
Great facilities and breakfast options provided too. A great stay! Nothing - I think it's just important to note that the house is underneath the owners (I totally didn't realise that even after reading reviews). While that wasn't an issue for us, its something I probably would have avoided when looking at spots.
- Mung (8/5): Very good -
- Martin (6/5): Pleasant -
- Mariel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rhys (10/5): Exceptional - Good Nothing
- Florian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jane (8/5): Quiet, clean and great value for money. - Very well equipped, very spacious and clean. Elevated, with large deck, lovely views over the treetops and nice and quiet. Good cotton bed linen. Nice breakfast provided which was a bonus. Very good value for money.
Although a traditional property, it’s a little tired and would benefit a from a bit of an update.
- Glen (9/5): Peaceful stay. - It is an affordable simple, ,lovely, quiet and peaceful property. Close to palm beach and walkable distance to ostend. Easy drive to oneroa too.
Would definitely use again.
- Olivia (10/5): Thanks so much for a lovely stay at your place. Just what we wanted for a weekend away :) -
- Grace (9/5): Superb - NIcely warm and cosy place with harbour views. I can say the host puts a lot of effort to make the place as welcoming as possible. Cereals, breads and eggs were provided along with your basic necessities. I cam in on a bad weather and forgot to bring my umbrella but Trish kindly let me have theirs.
- Geoffrey (10/5): Would recommend - It was fantastic
- Lorraine (9/5): Superb -
- Robin (10/5): loved it here, we'll be back.. - Perfect place for us. Lots of nice touches - eggs and bread left for us, beach stuff to use, spaciious, comfortable, incredible location. Loved it.
- Nicky (10/5): Exceptional - Close to the beach private, beautiful surroundings and outlook. Quite, clean, and had everything we needed, including breakfast, washing machine,
and dryer. .
- Kaitlyn (10/5): Exceptional - We loved our stay here!! Beautiful surroundings of the bush, very relaxing and had everything we needed.
- Janna (6/5): After the trials of gaining access to the apartment we had a comfortable stay. - Good quality bed, comfortable and welcoming apartment. Decent sized deck. Breakfast provided was adequate.
Trish and her husband carried up our suitcases after we said we could not get them up the huge stairway. Access was via a very high , potentially dangerous set of stairs and path that you had to climb to get to the property. You needed a step ladder (which was not provided) to reach up to the kitchen cupboard. The kitchen sink and laundry were in a cupboard with a very high step up and had no ventilation.
The advertising for the property was misleading. It said it had ocean views but there was no view, it was obscured by banana trees.
The clothes rack for drying clothes was broken and the electric fry pan was dirty.
- David (8/5): Great place, great beach and suited us fine - Lovely place, though access would be a challenge for anyone unsteady on their feet. The access was a little difficult
- Josephine (8/5): Overall we had a wonderful weekend. - The breakfast was fine, a little fruit would have been welcome, but thats an extra cost for the host. The actual apartment was well furnished and comfortable. Loving being able to open the bi-folds and ranch slider to access the deck. We negotiated the path up from Hill Road, but it was a bit of a challenge. I think the host needs to advise guests they require resonable mobility to access the apartment. Fortunately we had a lift to the roadside after the wedding. I think if I had had to walk up the hill from Palm Beach Stiore and then up the path I would have found that difficult.
- Belinda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brodie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ayush (9/5): Great property at a great location! - Beautiful property at a beautiful location. Waiheke bas breathtaking views and the property is located at a great location.near to all amenities and breakfast is included
- Karina (9/5): Overall it was a great stay. Peaceful, great location, beautiful view, and the owner were very kind. - The property has a musty smell. Nothing too big but it seem the property has been closed for some time.
- Mahsa (9/5): Superb -
- Yanina (10/5): Great place to stay. Great value - Everything! Location, comfort
- Sanglap (7/5): Good - Kind people, good view, clean. Stairs, no air conditioning
- Maddi (9/5): Superb -
- Fern (10/5): Exceptional - The owner Trish was amazing, she really goes above and beyond with what she supplies for your stay compared to other places I have stayed. Highly recommend staying here. Only watch out is that the place is up a steep set of stairs, so not suitable for all!
- Cesar (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely house!! Perfect location!!
- Elle (9/5): Superb -
- Rosewarne (3/5): Wouldn’t do it again - Location Very old and daggy
- Linda (9/5): I call it a “ tree house “ retreat .Beautiful birds singing & lovely distant view . - Palm heights has everything one needs ( even beach towels and Sunblock)There were breakfast supplies and even on a rainy day , when we needed to get something later on, as it was still raining , we asked and Trish and Lance Helped, thank you guys , you were awesome . Plus Lance had covered our bikes from the rain , thank you for your thoughtfulness . Also there is a deck outside the bedroom now ( compared to the picture ) , so very comfortable . Nothing not to like! Just a heads up , it’s been said in the comments , the stairs and walkway are steepish and not pleasant in the rain but you get the hang of it . Sunny days are a breeze !
- Galib (8/5): Very good -
- Melany (5/5): Passable -
- Khyati (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natasha (10/5): Exceptional - It was perfect for my little family.
- Yuliya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elizabeth (8/5): I would definitely stay again, it’s only 7 minutes walking distance from palm beach. - The location and facilities were great, it has everything you need for cooking and breakfast included is a plus. It doesn’t have a good view and the entrance is a little steep.
- Gurinder (9/5): Superb - Facilties, own space , nice view Height, need to walk many stairs with my luggage
- Elle (10/5): Perfect little House, hidden in the hills - Great facilities had everything we could have needed and more! There’s not much I didn’t like. We were sad to not have another night there
- Julia (10/5): Great host, great view, perfect place to stay for 1 or 2 people. - Food provided was decent, the house was very cute, cozy, and was exactly as described. The path to the house was steep and a bit tough with luggage, would have appreciated a bit more warning about that in the initial page for the booking.
- Paulsen (6/5): Not 100% what I expected, but still good value for money 👌 - The house is situated deep in the bush area. Accommodation was quite cosy, and the view was spectacular. It had a good working speaker to listen to music and a TV with netflix provided. Bedding and towels were clean, and the house had no musky smell it was warm and cosy. The sun hits the deck beautifully in the afternoon. All in all, the value of accommodation vs. money spent it worked out cheaper than staying at a backpackers. I would 100% stay here again, and the bush area is absolutely beautiful, filled with the sound of birds singing all day long. The following are not complaints. Just a heads up for future bookers. It's quite a hike from the bus stop to the house if you have a bit of luggage with you. Once you get to the address, there are just over 70 stairs to drag your luggage up. The bbq at the property is worn down and rusty, but there are plug-in devices provided at the property with pans and portable stove top for cooking plus microwave. The accommodation is technically the lower section of a house (someone does reside in the property above you) they have blocked off the upper section with a door and a few mattresses leaning up against that door. The kitchen area is a tad unusual. There is a separate door that leads into a tiny room with a basin, a washing machine, and a dryer. On arrival, it was very clean. Unfortunately, on day 2, when we went into that room, there were a few mice droppings in that room. Due to the bush area, it's totally understandable as this paticular room is a rough extension of the house, and the walls have gaps on top, so be careful leaving dirty dishes or food overnight in that room. One of the girls I was with had a bit of a mouse phobia, so we just kept that area locked and used the bucket and the dishwashing liquid we found at the property to do our dishes in, and the problem was solved.
- Dan (5/5): Passable - A little quirky , host was very nice and helpful. Access to the accommodation was Risky and unsafe, no fore warning, or mention of difficult access up a hill.
- Thiri (7/5): Quiet close to beach - Quiet
- Mariana (10/5): Great stay in Waiheke - Good location, we were expecting just a small room with sharing facilities but it was like an apartment for ourselves. The host was very helpful and gave lots of information on what to do on the island. The accomodation was very clean and tidy
- Ruth (9/5): peaceful and private - a wonderful private hideaway up in the bush with nice views. included everything we needed, even breakfast ingredients which was a thoughtful touch.
Awesome hearing the birdlife ..not a problem for us but there are a lot of steps up to the property which we were aware of first. As long as you are prepared and physically able it's not an issue.
- Richard (9/5): Superb -
- Singh (9/5): Superb -
- Jo (10/5): Palm Beach paradise - Great little spot, lovely facilities, and even some great art to look at, Trish has thought of everything for you to enjoy your stay
- Emma (8/5): Great property, good communication with our host, fab location. Would recommend! - The property was great! Everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Well presented and clean. So nice to have somewhere to stay with our dogs too :) Nothing to dislike, it was great!
- Kimmy (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent accommodation!
- Natasha (8/5): Very good -
- Craig (7/5): Hidden gem - Great location and view Access was fairly poor. Wouldn’t have liked to go up the path at night in the rain.
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (8/5): Good stay, few small things could make a big improvement - Good location, good kitchen utensils, nice balcony. Property and bedding smelt very musty and some of the furnishings looked very tired, there was also a strong smell of cat poo from behind the kitchen sink outside door. As others have said this property is not accessible as you need to walk up steep stairs to get to the property.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Chrys (8/5): Beautiful jungle feeling and being within nature - Views, outdoor patio, king bed. Instant coffee and the location of the kitchen sink
- Mya (3/5): Not what I expected. - The location was lovely, in a forest area, bit residential. We had a car, so everything was accessible. The property is less easy, it's quite a steep walk up a bit of rough terrain, so difficult with bags. Luckily we didn't have rain, or it might have been awful. The doors don't lock. Locks are broken. Which I have seen from reviews had been like this for a while. Sure, I understand you say it's safe, but not for someone coming from a very unsafe country, who needs locks to make them feel safe. I also have a 3 year old, and had to worry about him getting out of unlockable doors.
The owner shares the tumble driver, and comes through a secret door in the wash area, which gave me a hell of a fright.
Ah, the kitchen... Seems ok, till you have to was dishes, then it's through a door, with a step up, where you will hit your head multiple times. Dirty, full of spiderwebs and lint all over from the tumble dryer. I got to wash all the dishes the weekend, as my sister is terrified of spiders. Barbecue we couldn't open the gas valve.
Safety. There are stairs next to the bedroom, that go up to the main house. There is just a curtain over it, behind which is a mattress pushed up against the door, which my 3 year old managed to pull down on himself and fell down the stairs. Very dangerous, and dirty setup.
You cannot use multiple appliances at the same time, as the power trips.
The outside balcony/walkway to the front door has no rail, it's broken, and just a drop down to the garden. I dropped down to the garden, luckily only my ego was bruised.
You pay cash on arrival as they have no cc facilities apparently. So it was more hassle to pack up and try get a refund and go elsewhere, so we stuck it out.
- Angela (8/5): We had a very enjoyable stay. - Great price and hosts were very accommodating. Nothing we didn’t really like, although it was very damp particularly in the mornings. Rain didn’t help.
- Debra (2/5): Very poor - The view The pathway leading to accommidation was precarious. Apartment very musty. Ridiculous step into
- Jimbo (8/5): Great view in Palm Beach in a bush setting - Fantastic deck to enjoy the great view and have a BBQ, short walk to Palm Beach, and short walk to get the bus. Nice bushy hillside with heaps of different birds
- Lane (8/5): Very good -
- Mary (9/5): Superb -
- Suzanne (10/5): Perfect - Fantastic little get-away place!!! Loved every single minute!!! Thanks for everything!!
- Tanya (8/5): Perfect recharge spot - Cozy and cute. Value for money. Great views. Communicative hosts.
