Guest Reviews
- Yuill (10/5): - Brilliant, amazing people amazing location amazing food amazing views. A little rough around the edges but its was completely worth it and so amazing
- Chantal (10/5): - This place speaks for itself — the photos match reality perfectly. I chose to stay in a bungalow and had an exceptional view over the rice fields. It was truly the highlight of my trip, and I’m very happy I stayed here.
The food is excellent, with many unique Vietnamese dishes and good vegetarian options. For dinner I chose the “surprise set menu” and received a generous and delicious meal. Breakfast was also very good, with options such as banana pancakes, eggs, bread, and fresh fruit.
The property is located outside the center of Pù Luông. When I visited, there were no Grab (motorbike-taxi) available, but the owner can arrange pickup by motorbike for around 150k, and several bus companies also operate transfers. The location is elevated compared to other accommodations, and that makes the setting even more special and very worth the distance.
Just a short walk away you’ll find a traditional Vietnamese village and the beautiful Hieu Waterfall. It is also possible to rent a scooter, and the owner provides plenty of information for exploring the surroundings, which are stunning.
I joined a half-day motorbike tour (around 350k–400k) with a local guide, as the terrain is very hilly and it would be impossible to see everything on foot even if you are fit. The route included water wheels, the bat cave, several Thai villages, the characteristic S-shaped road, a bamboo-raft experience (quite turistic, I skipped it) and much more. I highly recommend it!
- Rebekah (10/5): Incredible natural experience . - This has been the highlight of my trip to Vietnam. Comfortable clean simple rooms, helpful warm hosts. Amazing with my kids. Let them help make spring rolls for dinner. Highly recommend Nothing. I loved it all
- Mitchell (10/5): Remote, Relaxing Beauty - The home stay itself is incredible. The view is beautiful. The trekking down to the waterfall and swimming in the village is quite steep… be ready.
Google Maps took me through the village to the Homestay. Don’t Do It! There’s a very narrow path that is steep and treacherous to ride a scooter on. Go around the village right before you get to it.
Other than that place, pure joy of an experience. The staff even what apps you Info and menu. We’re early before dinner, the set menu was huge and tasty.
The night song and breeze are intoxicating.
Rien

- Louis (10/5): - It was a relaxing place with a fantastic view. The food was tasty and the family were friendly but reserved. The room was comfortable, clean and a little rustic, with an equally fantastic view.
- Pieter (9/5): Lovely homestay - Very nice people, delicious homemade food. Basic but comfortable rooms.
Views are spectacular. Motorbikes for hire, perfect for exploring the area.
Bref, on recommende vivement! Rien
- Ernestapetku (10/5): Gem 💎 ✨️ 💖 - This place is an absolute gem 💎✨😍
We loved everything about it. The food was really good and the banana pancakes are a must have for breakfast! Our only regret is not staying one more night
- ANTONIO (9/5): -
- Mike (9/5): Great views - As mentioned previously, the views and location are difficult to beat, and we would have liked to have stayed longer in this area as the location is beautiful and it's up in the clouds, with some great hiking possibilities. The accommodation is fine, we stayed in the more basic, traditional bamboo huts, which have hot water, a fan, a kettle and mosquito nets to keep any bugs at bay. Breakfast is adequate, as is evening meal, and the staff are very friendly and helped us organise our onward travel
- Emma (10/5): Loved it! - We had such a lovely time at this homestay and would recommend! It is in an absolutely beautiful location (it’s quite far out/difficult to get to but this makes it even more peaceful & off the beaten track which is what we were looking for).
We really enjoyed the day trek with Phuong and enjoyed getting to know him!
The food was delicious and portions very large.
Amazing views from the room. One of our favourite stops in Vietnam!
- David (10/5): - Incredible views and so peaceful, the best food prepared and the most lovely and welcoming family. We were sad to leave. Duy Phuong Homestay and Pu Luong are pictured perfect, it’s like a dream there. Nothing
- Ornella (8/5): - Tres belle vue. / bon emplacement
- Hana (10/5): Lovely calm place - The accommodation is natural and in good condition. Our room was clean, water was hot and we had no issues overall. As many others reviews stated the temperature out is also in, because the building is kinda open. If it rains or is too windy, you might appreciate earplugs. As for the bugs also mentioned in other reviews, we hadn’t any bad experience. Just be mindful in the evening with your lights, closing the doors, etc. there is a mosquito net around the bed, so if you set it up before the evening, you can sleep peacefully :)
The family is very friendly and kind. (As with other homestays) You can communicate with them via WhatsApp or using a translation app in person. They helped us arrange taxi, learned us to make fried rice and noodles, and even invited us to eat and drink with them at one point :) The food is very nice too, hence why we asked for a cooking lesson. The banana pancakes became my new obsession.
It is a perfect location to those looking for a little bit of peace and quiet. You can visit the Hieu waterfalls to take a dip, walk among the rice fields or follow the nearby path down to more gorgeous streams and waterfalls. Other than that you can borrow a motorbike and explore all around Pu Luong, but at the end of the day, it is a beautiful place to return to.
Thank you Duy Phuong Homestay :)

- Bean Ng (10/5): Must try in Pu Luong - Incredible experience. The view from terrace is spectacular. I bet you can hardly find any places that match. The host is super nice and helpful. The set of local specialty for dinner was stunning. Everything was perfect. Although it's quite far from the main road but no problems with your own car or else you can ask the host to pick you up from the main road None
- Bean Ng (10/5): - Incredible view and super friendly and helpful host. The local food cooked by the homestay is wonderful. Highly reccomended None
- tdo (10/5): Magnificent little Gem 6th - What a gem. Up in the mountain overlooking rice fields. Great food and we met a wonderful Vietnamese family. The market on Sunday was sweet. The owners spoke enough English.
Our little room was so wonderful. A true homestay. There was nothing I could fault
- Julius (10/5): - Amazing view, super friendly and helpful family. Very peaceful place. We asked for vegan food only and they made yummy vegan meals for us! Nothing!
- Carl (10/5): Amazing place to stay for a peaceful escape - Very friendly and helpful staff, went above and beyond to get me a bike to hire for a day. Comfortable bed in an air conditioned room. Peaceful and secluded with stunning views. Owner gave me a lift to the bus stop when I checked out. Tasty food in the restaurant. Was a little far from places to eat, especially when visiting out of season. Pool was closed for deep clean so couldn't use it.
RAS
- Samuel (7/5): Good - The location is really nice, with an amazing view. But you really need to have your own vehicle/motorbike to reach the place, as it is away from the main road (thus very quiet). The bungalow looked very good in the first place, though very basic. Mattress is hard, but that's how I like it. Food (dinner) was a little expensive in my opinion, but very tasty. Breakfast was quite basic but it does the job (specially if you've got the big dinner on the evening before). I tend to be ok with the presence of insects, but that went beyond my comfort zone. Tons of insects (including different species of cockroaches) can (and do) enter the bungalows from the many holes everywhere (doors, floor, walls). You need to work hard with the mosquito net to try to make something "hermetic" with the mattress, but don't expect to be able to create a no-go area for them. If you are fine with them, you will really enjoy this homestay. If you dislike insects, don't go there.
- Gabriele (10/5): The best location and the most gorgeous Homestay - Absolutely incredible. The most memorable stay during our 2 week trip in Vietnam - North to South. The hosts were very welcoming , helpful and the accomodation is just gorgeous! And the location... lost for words. We took 1 whole day to ride a motorbike all around Pu Luong and we didn't see a better view than you get at this homestay. it's just the BEST ! 🙏
- Federico (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic experience. The place is very cozy with a wonderful sight and the family is helpful all the time for any reason. The rooms have a glass wall open on the rice fields!
- Elitsa (9/5): Superb -
- Valeriia (9/5): Superb - Of course the view... amazing ! And the absence of tourism (almost). The hosts are super pleasant and helpful ! Bungalow are clean ans nicely set. For thise who need some time in the nature and quite space-perfect ! I got upgraded to the better bungalo half way through my stay :) overall i had a very nice quite time i much needed. No complains, just few suggestions for the owners and tips for the guests:)
1. It is on the hill, so a scooter is recommended. But its possibke to get a car taxi. I like walking but in the 35 and above hear ita a bit challenging to hike up after your walk in the village below.
2. The mattresses are indeed very hard. I had some back problems eveb though i usually like harder matress. But its hard to say whether ita jyst me or the mattress itself.
3. Maybe few more options for breakfast would be good to have?
4. In the upgraded bungalo was more space, more light and more hooks for the clothes. The 2 bungalos on the right side are lovelt as well (especially their big terraces !), but have less space and no hot water- for me no problem, but if someone needs it - better take the bungalo with the glass window
- Marika (9/5): Superb - Unbelievably beautiful location and a beautiful family. This is not a a negative but a reminder to bring cash. The closest automatic bank machine is 18km away. We had only the bare minimum so needed to be very careful!
- Mirco (9/5): Relaxation in lucious greenery - Located right in the centre of the Phu Luong nature reservoir, this place is as peaceful and beautiful as it gets. Spacious cabin (yes, there will be insects, you are in the middle of the jungle) equipped with all that you could need. I relaxed on my balcony with a view of the jungle. Staff lady is a funny and helpful lady that speaks great English. The owner itself doesn't speak English but is super friendly and played some pool and Chinese chess with me. Super welcoming crowd! Food could've honestly been a bit better given that it's in a secluded area and there isn't many alternatives around. Also make sure you have some sort of transport set up as most busses that go to Phu Luong will drop you of about 25 minutes from your destination.
- Jussi (10/5): Amazing stay with great food and incredible views. - Really nice acommodations, amazing views, peaceful location and great food available.
- Phuong (10/5): This is the place that I will come back again and again and again - If I had more time, I would have loved to stay here for at least a week. The view from the homestay is absolutely stunning—surrounded by peaceful rice paddies and majestic mountains. You can enjoy the scenery from the common area and right from your room too, thanks to the large glass windows that make you feel completely immersed in nature. One unforgettable moment was waking up in the middle of the night and seeing the full moon rising over the mountain—truly magical.
The homestay is run by a lovely local family who are incredibly kind, warm, and sincere. Their hospitality made us feel right at home. Unlike the more touristy areas with many homestays, this one is tucked away in a quieter, more peaceful spot. It offers a relaxing, homey atmosphere that feels authentic and private—perfect for truly unwinding.
They also serve delicious local meals, beautifully prepared and enjoyed right at your table with the breathtaking view in front of you. That combination of good food and scenery was such a highlight of our stay.
I genuinely wish I could’ve spent a full week here. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a serene and authentic Pu Luong experience!
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous setting , views , great walking, very helpful hosts , lovely family , relaxing , landscape varied and special, good mix of guests. We enjoyed going rustic.
- Mike (10/5): It has been extremely memorable and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed chatting to a few fellow travellers and motorcyclists from P - The view is spell bounding and captivating and your host family are quietly wonderful and considerate and helpful. I would love to come back to stay again one day to see their young child growing up and say hi.
Pillion motorcycle tour readily arranged was superb with caves and water wheels taking in. It’s right at the top of the valley.
- Dang (8/5): Very good -
- Raphaelle (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing views, lovely welcoming hosts and home cooked food. One of the nicest homestays I've been to. The hosts can help you find guides, book taxis etc. Nothing
- Charlie (10/5): Amazing Homestay with beautiful views - This Homestay has the most beautiful views over the rice patties. The houses are just as nice and also very clean. I really enjoyed the dinner here and had an amazing time. One of the hidden gems in Vietnam for sure. -
- Willem-jan (9/5): Superb - Very nice place to spend a few days to explore the area. Very friendly and nice staff and always helpful.
- Schilbach (10/5): Absolutely lovely place to stay. Staff was wonderful! Kind hearted. - Super cute and clean! Very spacious. Great location. Great coffee shop down the road to the right. Nothing
- Nicolas (10/5): Exceptional - Great great great staff. Very helpful anyway they can, we even got the chance to be invited to dinner with them and their friends. Amazing experience. Highly recommend this place!
- David (9/5): Superb - Amazing views, basic but very tidy bungalows, owner helped us book taxi anywhere, nice petting zoo for children, food was decent. Near the waterfall. Food choices are limited to properties menu since no other restaurants in the village, location is a bit far from main attractions. Bungalows are not at all isolated so many bugs and mosquitoes
- Helena (8/5): Very good - The place is great with an amazing location. Very good service. The restaurant is quite pricey compared to other places, and since it's far from town unless you bring some food you have no other choice, so if you're on a tight budget consider bringing some food from town.
- Marta (10/5): Amazing place, not crowed - Super cheap! The property is beautiful and clean. The bathroom was also clean and the views stunning. The food served in the property was yummy and cheap. They also have vegetarian options and tofu. The owners don’t speak english but with the translator everything was fine and they were so nice with us! I would choose it again and again. There is nothing to do except for going on a walk around the rice fields and relaxing. This place invites you to disconnect so if you get bored easily don’t stay too long.
- Thao (8/5): Good in general - Location is pretty far from center so you should rent a motorcycle to explore Pu Luong - Poor menu
- Transportation from Hanoi to the hotel and return. You need to ask the hotel carefully about the kind of car to transport
- Hayley (10/5): Relaxed with stunning views and delicious food. - Such a stunning place to stay. The views are incredible and the food is amazing. The hosts were super helpful and even managed to send me my laptop on to my next destination (4 hours away) when I left it behind. The showers were a dream. The whole place and the village below is like a fairytale. I wish I could have stayed a month! Nothing
- Veerle (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice staff. Good food. Fantastic location
- Kostas (10/5): Exceptional - Definitely the highlight of our 3 week stay in Vietnam. Amazing views, excellent food and lovely people! We felt like at home and will definitely visit Duy Phuong Homestay again.
- Paul (10/5): Beautiful - Rustic but comfortable, a great homestay with great food, great views, and relaxing vibe. It's a short (steep) walk to the waterfall. And that view ❤️ The rooms are basic, but there is hot and cold running water, clean beds and a simple, peaceful aesthetic. The family were great.
- Max (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful quiet location on top of a hill, with amazing views over the valley right from your bedroom window. The host family are super friendly and welcoming, and they cook absolutely
delicious meals. 100% recommend this homestay in Pu Luong! Everything was perfect for us
- Jonas (9/5): A view to die for - The view from all cottages was completely stunning. We have travelled a lot and this view just blew our minds. All huts looked new to us and they were very charming.
Very friendly young host. It seams this young family is building this place up at the moment and the potential is huge.
This means there are clear signs of an ongoing building process at the site. We didnt mind at all. It wasn't noisy or anything like that.
The host doesnt speak very much english, but he was very empathetic and patient, and google translate did the job just fine.
- Matthew (6/5): Comfortable, check before you go for construction as its loud. - The beds were incredibly comfy. From 7am for the 3 mornings I woke up there, there was construction work happening. So any ideals of a peaceful paradise are completely gone, you will be woken up. They're doing a lot of construction to build a road up to the homestays. Also late at night there are is a lot of Kareoke happening, so you are constantly bombarded with noise from the moment you get there. I would try asking the property what type of construction is happening or still on-going before you book here, otherwise bring strong earplugs. Food was pretty expensive to.
- Thi (10/5): Excelent. - The Homestay is run by a very nice family of local farmers. This is exactly what you have in mind when hearing "Homestay". The food was very good as well and we even got invited to a small family feast after the rice harvest. The view from the room and the public spaces is also excelent. Norhing to complain about.
- Julien (7/5): A night near thw waterfall - Outside the main touristic area. Nice view, diner was good. Constant white noise from the nearby waterfall. Comfort is basic and ok. Facilities in the room: 2 bottles of water and a kettle, a fan and a mosquito net. Rooms hard to keep clean (dust settled in many places) with traces of dry cockroach on the bath towels. Mirror not clean. Need to make some effort for that.
- Sen_ss (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was amazing. The Thai staff were all very welcoming, polite and hospitable. I made a reservation here but they asked if I wanted to have a better room at their other facility "Pu Luong Riverside Lodge" 1km from the Hieu Waterfall. Tucked away among the trees, the property is in a much quieter spot with great mountain views. The room they prepared for us had all the necessary amenities, a balcony, water heater and air conditioning. There is a small restaurant inside the homestay where we had dinner (with reservation) and breakfast. The food was all local and very fresh. Nothing.
- Bradley (10/5): Remote Rice Retreat - Very cool spot in a remote location. I would recommend hiring a motorbike before getting to this place (ideally where the bus drops you off, or Canh Nang). A taxi from Pu Luong Retreat is 500,000VND, making it expensive to get to, unless you have your own way of getting there. That aside, the Homestay was beautiful. The common area overlooking the rice fields was absolutely epic and a good place to meet other travellers or just admire the view. The food was great - we had the market meals and they were very tasty. I would recommend this place!
- Ec (7/5): Typical Vietnamese homestay, great family, food and views. Some things could be improved :) - The food was amazing. It's helpful to order in advance as there will be other guests and it gives the staff more time to prepare it. There was a lot of variety in the menu. The family were also very friendly and helpful. If you don't like bugs, you probably won't have a pleasant stay. The construction of the rooms means bugs can easily enter the room, there is a big gap between the room and the bathroom, so it would be easy for you to drop things and then you would have to go under the stilt house to get it. There is a mosquito net but the second night, the bug population in our room was amazing.
- Diana (8/5): Very good - If you want to have an authentic experience in this village, this is the ideal place. A very simple bungalow immersed in nature (even with some animals visiting if you don't mind). Breakfast can be improved. You can enjoy a beautiful walk going up to the waterfall and with a beautiful view from the top.
- Uyen (8/5): Very good - Staff and food were great Need more signs to direct guests from the entrance of the village
- Melissa (9/5): Duy Phuong Homestay offers a tranquil escape where guests can unwind amidst breathtaking scenery and savor delicious cui - Duy Phuong Homestay offers an enchanting retreat amidst the stunning rice fields of Pu Luong. Nestled atop a mountain, the bamboo bungalow provides uninterrupted vistas of the valley, immersing guests in the beauty of nature. While lacking air conditioning, the cool mountain air and provided fan ensure comfortable temperatures. The necessity of an insect net adds to the rustic charm, allowing guests to fully embrace the surrounding environment.
The owners’ personalized approach shines through in the custom-made dishes, tailored to guests’ preferences. With a diverse menu offering ample choices, every meal is a delightful culinary experience. Although breakfast leans towards a more Western style, featuring sweet bread and eggs, it complements the authentic Vietnamese dining experience. The bed is harder than most, and it would have been nice if instant coffee (like G7) was provided with the room.
- Mirjam (10/5): Absolutely stay here! - The staff was fantastic and helpfull! The hotel was very cute. It's next to the waterfall river, so a very calming spot to stay. The food was delicious!
- Natasa (9/5): Superb - The valley is absolutelly beautiful, you can take a really nice walk just further up from the homestay. The bungalow is lovely, nighttime was quiet. There is no AC, but considering April temperatures this wasn't an issue. The staff is very kind, but expect a language barrier and use Google translate. It's definitely worth stopping by, in the low season you roam around the rice fields alone. I think the menu needs some working on. The prices for sleeping attract travellers on a low budget, however, most of the food is a bit expensive for Vietnamese standards. Maybe a wider variety of prices wouldn't hurt.
Also, you'll drive on a slightly steep mud road for the last 800 m, which I asume can get very slippery if it rains (again, since it was dry, it wasn't a problem for us).
- Huw (7/5): Good -
- Ellen (10/5): A trip I will always remember - Absolutely beautiful setting with incredible views of the mountains, nestled in a valley.
All of the staff were so kind and helpful in every way, mr Thrang took us for a tour of the area and to see some amazing sights and to meet some of the local tribal people - it was a day I will never forget , mr thrang shared his knowledge of the area and people and their culture
The two younger guys took us for a walk into the forest where they showed us so much kindness
The area is very special and unspoiled
We ate all our meals at the Homestay and they were very good Nothing
- Joffre (10/5): They have THE VIEW - The location Nothing. Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling good so I couldn’t get the chance to try the food.
- David (9/5): Excellent - Lovely people, great location, good price
- Kazuyo (9/5): Superb - The view from the common area & sitting area outside of my room was stunning. Very close the the water fall. There is not much else to do around there without transport but it is very nice chill out place to stay. The owner organized transport to get there , leave for next place & to local market with reasonable price. This place was out side of pu luong which was nice even more Vietnam country side so needs further transport or a taxi which the owner ordered for me. I was there in end of feb & the weather was esp cold then. The traditional built house get cold air from the top of the wall , I knew it so I got prepared well so it wasn’t too bad but if it was warmer, it would be more comfortable, not wearing thick cloth. just be prepared,
- - (8/5): Very good -
- Ngoc (8/5): Very good - Clean and safe Hard to find
- Clementine (5/5): Passable - The landscape and dinner was very good. We felt like he didnt expect us, so no bread for breakfast, no fish for dinner,…and the bathroom was not so clean.
- Sudar (9/5): Superb - everything is wonderful
- Clarissa (10/5): Wonderful getaway from Hanoi. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the countryside of Vietnam. - Beautiful location and exceptional staff! Nothing, it was perfect!
(10/5): Exceptional - great location from the room i saw the fields, mountains and waterfalls i went at the time the fields were being harvested but it was still very beautiful, and especially the food was delicious and cheap everything was great great Nothing
- Rachel (10/5): Beautiful and quiet surroundings, walk to the waterfall - Staff was super helpful and showed us around to the waterfalls when we arrived, even though it was getting late. They made a wonderful breakfast too. The bed was a little springy, but you are in the middle of nowhere and it was better than other beds we have had in the country that were hard as rock!
- Blurtravels (10/5): Remote Stay - Too out of the way if you don't have your own vehicle ...
