Tomasita (10/5): - The restaurant experience is outstanding. This is a white linen event with 2 seatings...so prepare with a nice outfit and be relaxed. The prices are compatible with the Winston-Salem or Raleigh area... the food is artfully prepared and presented. If you like cocktails before dinner there is a well stocked bar with special drinks for the day/week. One thing I would ask is that guests monitor their alcohol so you can be aware that not everyone wants to hear your conversation. In addition, the breakfast which is included with the room is a tastey way to start the day. That Chef is a Gift.

I loved the pot of coffee brought to the door, but would have like a larger pot. The dinner was excellent, and loved the vibe of everyone gathering on the porch. The only thing I didn't love was that when we first came the room smelled quite musty. Also the bed was REALLY soft, and so not very comfortable for me or my partner.

Jennifer (10/5): excellent romantic getaway! - My husband and I occasionally book an overnight get away. We live in Greensboro NC. I was looking for a place that had a hot tub in j the room. I was so lucky to stumble across this place. The River inn blow us away. We booked the chicken house. The perfect romantic get away. Now the room didn't have a tv. But we had WiFi. The hot tub along with the fireplace was so romantic. The theme of the cabin was perfect. The king size bed was so comfortable with tons of pillows. The breakfast the next morning was exceptional. The mimosa was fresh squeezed orange juice. My husband said the French toast was the best he ever ate. The staff was so kind and pleasant. We will be back. Everything was so perfect. If I had anything I wish was better , I'll have to say the porch to the chicken house. Tons of leaves ,it wasn't very inviting. I would've been an extra bonus if it has been cleared. But still not that big of a deal.

The service was great from taking the orders to presenting the food. Great location and beautiful settings that allowed for conversations with other guests. The mattress was a little uncomfortable. The bathroom was very small. The room smelled like old books that were on shelves everywhere in the room.

The food was overpriced for the quality. The staff where very attentive. Over all we may stay again but it does need some changes to make the experience match the beautiful location.
Daniel (3/5): We would not book there again! - The room was very crowded , damp , and had no appropriate seating . The carpet had damp areas because the room was damp. Our clean never used towels were damp . The tub floor was not even and showering was quite a feat. We sat outside on wicker with no cushion but better than inside the room. Cost was the same as other more up to date rooms but were not available or offered even though we asked about possibly getting better seating. A dehumidifier was in the closet so evidently that was a known problem. Also, my husband was served scallops two days in a row because he could not eat lamb chops ant the second meal even though they knew he was allergic to pork & beef. We furnished Turkey sausage for breakfast since no alternative was suggested. They did have nondairy creamer for me and fruit instead of whip cream on pound cake.

The staff was very kind & quick to help with any issues that may arise. Would definitely recommend staying. Also walking distance to the New River.

Janet (9/5): Down By The River! So Relaxing! - Look and feel of an English country home. My Delux room has an electric built-in fireplace and hot tub. Small patio with river rock walls. Very relaxing. And no TV in the room. Only a couple of shelves of books! Just what I needed to unwind from my week! Prices for dinner were a bit high. Appetizer, main course, and dessert with a glass of wine was abiut $70, but there was also live piano music in the dining room. So, I did not mind the expensense. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely Spot - The Wee Cabin is a great little spot! It’s secluded and provides all the comforts you could want. On-site dinner was absolutely incredible despite only a few people working, the food was spectacular. There were two things that would have made the stay better- the wifi was down (which normally would be a great chance to unwind but we got engaged on our trip and wanted to call family to celebrate!). Also, the carbon monoxide detector didn’t have a battery in it. These things would not impact us returning at all, we had a lovely stay and everyone was so kind.

Francis (10/5): - The River House Inn is an exceptional B&B with great food overlooking the New River in a beautiful section of NC. The rooms range from a small suite in the main to cottages. Some with hot tubs and decorated with Gayle's sense of art and antique furniture.

William (10/5): Beautiful mountain retreat - The River House Inn is an inn coupled with a series of outbuidlings. One can see that this was formerly a mountain farm that has eventually been transformed into a refined center of culture in Northeast NC. My family stayed in a two-bedroom apartment in what had been a barn complex, replete with a fully-equipped kitchen. It was perfect for us. The New River is across the street and there is a large field between the lightly-used road and the water. This lawn area was perfect for a stroll or to play (baseball, e.g.). The river itself was lovely for walking in and fishing. To be sure the "honey hole" is a bit downstream for prospective fishermen/women. The staff were exceptionally kind to me and my children and we felt most welcomed the entire stay. Lastly, I must comment on how delicious the breakfasts were. All the "hype" I had read regarding the food at the River House Inn was earned. Our food was delectable. One item to note for Hotels.com users... despite me registering my entire family, the Inn only had me down as a party of 2. As a result we had to be (a lot) extra for my family to stay. I am guessing there was a mix-up in the communication between hotels.com and the property. I would encourage anyone booking for more than 2 people to confirm this with the Inn before travelling. Otherwise, you might be paying more than expected.

Verified traveler (10/5): - My husband and I had a fantastic weekend in this hotel and we can’t wait to go back...The owner, Miss Gayle is a lovely and attentive lady and along her staff, made us feel like part of the family. The breakfast and dinner were outstanding; so delicious and beautifully curated. We stayed at the Carriage House room and we enjoyed all the details in it; we truly felt like back in time in a peaceful retreat at the nature’s heart. We woke up at the birds singing and would take a few steps to the main house to enjoy the amazing breakfast that is included with the stay. We became fans of the herbs and cheese omelet but can’t deny that all the plates we tried were very tasty and memorable. We visited the Grayson Highlands State Park to see the famous wild ponies and truly worths the hike. If you love nature this trip should be on your bucket list!

The breakfast was fantastic and they have a great restaurant. The staff are wonderful. We will definitely stay at the River House when we return to this area.

JAYNE (6/5): Pretty place - Our room was lovely. It had a lot of natural light, a very comfotable bed and a large Jacuzzi. It did have a very musty odor which affected my sinuses. It needed a little TLC.

Cynthia (10/5): A Rustic Riverhouse Gem - We loved our stay here. The staff and owner were wonderful and even leave fresh coffee on your doorstep. It is a converted farm with rustic charm. We asked last minute to eat here and were surprized by a gourmet three course meal in a charming dining room. The breakfast was delightful as well. Wish we had had more time to sit on the porch and enjoy the river view.
Verified traveler (10/5): Relax - Relax with a capital R in the Weigh Station. Small. Private. Intimate. Wake up to coffee delivered to your deck table in a thermos carafe. Sit and enjoy the bird song. Breakfast from 8:30-10 so no rush. Best breakfast! Several great choices. Beautiful river. Ask Grace to arrange a canoe or kayak trip down the river. Finish the day with a bath and candles or sit in a rocker in the porch of the main house with a glass of wine or mug of coffee. Perfect weekend getaway for a couple.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast the next morning. Because of the inclement weather, we departed from the property after breakfast.
