Guest Reviews
- Kate (8/5): Great little stay in Hanoi! - The staff was so kind and welcoming, great room for a night or two. Nothing, all good

- Peeyush (8/5): - I had a pleasant stay at Hanoi Balcony Homestay. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which made the stay relaxing overall. One small downside was that the kettle in the room wasn’t very clean, which could definitely be improved.
What truly made the experience special was the host lady—she was extremely kind, caring, and always ready to help with anything we needed. Her warm hospitality really stood out and made us feel welcome.
Overall, a good place to stay with great service, just a minor improvement needed in room amenities.

- Annie (9/5): - Excellent accueil.

- Sankhadeep (9/5): A wonderfully welcoming homestay with exceptionally helpful hosts, with only minor accessibility lim - The owner was incredibly helpful from the start—responding instantly with clear, precise information on Booking.com chat. We received a warm welcome, help with our luggage, and even access to the family’s personal kitchen. No matter what time we arrived or left, someone was always there to open the door. The location is convenient, with the correct address being 19 Hàng Vôi, Hoàn Kiếm, Hanoi, and the entrance tucked inside a shop. There is no lift, and the room is on the 3rd floor, though the owner is generally very willing to help with luggage.
- David (9/5): - Lovely host family here. Made me feel at home. Great location in the Old Quarter, very spacious, comfortable and clean room. Liked the balcony. Great value for money, highly recommend.

- Alva (10/5): 100% recommend. - Such a lovely family and hostess exceptionally nice. Great location, close to everything you need but quiet street at night. Really comfortable bed and a good size room. Shower one of the best we’ve had! Great for couples / friends that don’t stay out too late as have to ring bell once shop closes. But they had no problem letting us in at 12 am ☺️ Even have a cute dog Birr ❤️
- Priyanka (5/5): -
- Olivia (9/5): Great Hanoi Homestay - Good location for visiting the Old town. Friendly family that answered that were prompt to answer the door after hours. Room was clean and very comfortable. Would return !
- Lyn (7/5): Good -
- Zeynep (8/5): Very good - We used the homestay for couple of nights before our flight, location was good in the French Quarter, it was nice for a short stay, the family was very lovely, warm and helpful 😊
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - The location was great, the family was very friendly , always tried to accommodate us. The room was clean and simple, nothing fancy but great value for your money
- Ton (7/5): It would've been a better experience had the demolition noises been advised beforehand. Annoying. -
- Glen (8/5): 3 night stay between the French quarter and the banking district - The room was above a shop, so you could gain easy access through the shop, as long as it was open, otherwise you had to ring the bell, so somebody could let you in, the room itself was a nice size, double bed, shower with hot water, free bottled water with a kettle, and coffee. The owners were very nice and friendly, and only too happy to help with anything. I did want to stay out late to watch the football, but didn't fancy ringing the bell at 4am, shame, if you didn't have to gain access to the accommodation through the shop I'd of been happier.
- Vi-hoa (8/5): The home stay was warm and clean. The hosts should more generous with consumables. - 5mins Proximity to Lake Huan Kiem.
Hosts were nice.
The room air conditioner was working well. Need new soft shower towels. The shower towels. were small, thin, rough and have a smell.
The shower shampoo bottles were not filled.
Need to provide tissue paper in bedroom
Shower hot water gets cold after some 4-5 mins.
- Gary (9/5): A charming, personal experience, and we would happily return. - This family run home-stay felt personal and we felt that we were welcomed by ALL of the family. We visited at Lunar New Year, whilst family from around the world were also there and they included us in the clelbrations. If I had to suggest an improvement, it would be lack of kettle in the room, but we could easily go and make our drinks in the kitchen. And because it was Tet, the shop was closed, so we had to rely on the lovely landlady to let us in and out.
- Sarah (7/5): Good -
- Annie (5/5): great if you are taking the sleeper bus to Sapa as it is a 2 min walk to the pickup point. - location is great as it's near the Tom's Cafe, the pickup point for sleeper bus.
owner is friendly. toilet was flooded during bath. couldn't bathe properly.
room was on the third floor which is a challenge to bring your luggage up.
- Natalija (5/5): Passable - location extremely noisy. felt like sleaping outside on the road.
- Mcj (10/5): Great hosts, great stay. - Huyen and her family are wonderful, and gave me good advice on where to eat and what to do. Comfy bed, good wifi. Thank you! I don't have any complains.
- Manh (8/5): Very good -
- Manh (8/5): Very good -
- Dillon (10/5): Do not miss this place when looking for an affordable stay in HANOI - Heyun and Ian were the most AMAZING hosts of their HOMESTAY and on my long travel trip I have experienced many great ones and the odd bad. This one beat them all hands down.
Free laundry.
Helped me receive 9 parcels from Lazada (amazon equivalent)cash on delivery.
They put a fridge in my room and straight away sorted out a better wifi connection.(Super quick). The word "Helpful"does not justify there hosting.
The room was more like an apartment than just a room, with a French colonial feel, shuttered wooden window in main room and with high windows and doors with massive blinds in the balcony\dining room and a very spacious bathroom (modern) clean decor and lovely shower.
A lovely separate dining area (I set my art equipment there)which is lovely space overlooking street below.with a slim long outside balcony.
Right in the heart of old quarter !.
24 hour service as Ian is a floor below through out the evening till morning.(He must sleep day times)
Great pho street food right outside your homestay with 24 hour mini shop a 100 yards away.
To be fair you can walk to every thing younwant in a few minutes.
Most taxi bike cost 20,000 dong from the property to any where in Hanoi old town.(Grab as other apps are not profound here)Taxis are about double but still cheap.Dont let the taxis on the street over charge you as I saved a lot of dong booking GRAB.
Large flat screen tv & beer if you want it from there fridge for 25,000 dong.
I was completely spoilt for the price and hope this post help others to experience the same. Mmmmm nothing 😉
.
- Kathy (10/5): Exceptional - I had a lovely stay in this homestay. The room was spacious with a nice private balcony ! I highly recommand this place if you are to visit Hanoi, as it is very close to the center :)
- Oaker (10/5): Simple and worth the value - It was clean and comfortable. The location was hard to find. No one around the area seems to know where it was. We couldn’t ask for directions. Also, We didn’t expect the hosts to be living next door. (But she was lovely and accommodating!)
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing host and always helpful! We felt like home right after we arrived at the accommodation. The room was clean and spacious. Location was great as well, with many restaurants and stalls around. Highly recommended.
- Anil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (9/5): Wonderful little Homestay :) - Great little Homestay, lovely room, extremely clean with a very comfortable bed, the owner is so lovely, very warm and friendly, it's in a great location only 5 minutes from the lake in Old Quarter...highly recommended.
- Lukas (5/5): Passable - Room not at the listed location, which was very disappointing since was booked for prime location. WiFi also doesn’t really work
- Giulia (8/5): Very good -
- Michele (3/5): Si trova facilmente di meglio - the owners are very friendly and try to make up for the serious shortcomings of the structure with kindness but it doesn't always work to enter the structure you have to go through a chaotic and messy motorcycle clothing shop, to be able to return at night you have to knock on a bell and wait when someone comes to open the door. I spent more than an hour on the street waiting for someone to open the door and in the end I they opened because I threw stones at the owner's window, the room is cold with quite old furniture so for what I paid it was very expensive
- Aludq (10/5): Exceptional - Very good host🫶🏻
- Bryan (7/5): Good -
- Liew (8/5): Hidden gem in old quarter! - Central location. Near the Lake and surrounded by eateries. Only stayed a night on the way down from Sapa before heading home. The hostess was very helpful in arranging airport drop off. Accommodating and flexible. The POS machine was under maintenance, so was not possible to settle bill by credit card. She was kind enough to take a combo of Malaysian Ringgit and Vnd as we were low on Vnd.
Room as advertised. Spacious, clean and comfortable with a balcony and French windows. Had a good night rest.
Overall it was great value for money. Owner do not speak much English. Communication basically via translation app.
Would prefer if there was a shower screen to separate shower area from rest of bathroom. Entire bathroom wet after a shower.
Would be ideal if they provide a kettle in the room and also bottles of drinking water. Found it a little inconvenient to use the family kitchen.
For the undecerning, Homestay difficult to locate. Entrance is through a clothing shop by the name Made In Vietnam. It is a family run business with the Homestay upstairs. I had no issue locating it as I read this info in one of the reviews. This info however needs to be incorporated when describing the Homestay.
- Bojana (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts were lovely. The room was spacious and well appointed, great storage. Great bathroom. The bed was big, enough space for the two of us and our 5 year old. Our room had a glassed in balcony with table and chairs, this was great, like having an extra sitting room. Overall we felt very comfortable and at home. The place was easy walking distance to the lake and the water puppet theatre. All was good. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, though, to make this room perfect. The street was loud but it actually did not affect our sleep. Would definitely stay here again.
- Ashleigh (10/5): Great location, lovely room - In the heart of Hanoi, nice sized room. Was perfect for our 1 night stop over in Hanoi. :) Nothing
- Aleksandra (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely cute owner who is there for you whatever you need :)
- Santosh (8/5): Very good -
- Novis (10/5): Restful, homely experience - Spacious room, comfortable bed, Hanoi old quarter, family run homestay, friendly and helpful owners. They went out of there way to get me an early check-in!
- Peita (10/5): I would definitely choose this place again. - The owners were just so friendly and we fell in love with their dog too. The rooms were homely, cool, clean and very comfortable. The beds were fantastic. There was aircon in both rooms. Nothing
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): A wonderful stay with the most wonderful and helpful hosts! Super comfortable and convenient! - Location, host and comfort! Nothing!!
- Haley (10/5): Lovely - Very comfy, cozy bed. I slept so well! Nice little balcony for viewing the main street.
- Quang (10/5): Exceptional -
- Guy (9/5): Superb - Central location.
- Lê (10/5): Enjoyable and sad that I couldn’t stay for longer - Big rooms, comfortable stay and close to the old quarter street. Plus for other street you can book a grab taxi for ~15 mins max for sightseeing as well. Sometimes there’s a toilet smell from one of the room due to the weather conditions, it goes away when you have aircon on (but it’s something quite normal for some houses in Vietnam in general.)
- Rob (7/5): Good - Nice clean room, hot water and toiletries provided. Polite guests Had to walk through shop and ring bell to get in at night, not a massive problem.. also no kettle to make a coffee in morning or cups... for a homestay i thought this would have as stated in the booking. Also plug sockets not very good for charging and situated in awkward places.
- Tom (7/5): Good - The owners were very nice helpful and welcoming. The bed was not very comfortable, and the shower was not very good. Also they don't mention that the entrance to the homestay is through a store
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Super.friendly.
- Naythen (10/5): Exceptional - Welcoming host who made us feel at home.
- Caroline (9/5): Superb - Host was amazing! So helpful with planning day trips and transport. Went above and beyond to accommodate us. On top of that, location was amazing! Would definitely recommend and stay there again! Shower water pressure could have been better but the pros of this place outweigh the cons.
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely hostess. Large comfortable room. Nice to have balcony. Not noisy. Great location, easy access to the busy streets of the old quarter. Very close to the amazing 4 km mural. Nice cafe, Hope Cafe, nearby.
- Shannon (8/5): Very good - Short stay for us. In late at night and out the next morning. The host was wonderful. Room was super cute and had character (in a good way).
- Roos (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (9/5): Lovely Homestay tucked away above the hustle & bustle of busy Hanoi. - Huyen & Hien are delightful hosts! Our 2 adjoining upstairs/downstairs rooms suited our family perfectly with a small sun room, balcony, fridge, 2 bathrooms. Huyen went the extra mile to assist in anyway she could. She made a PC for us which would have been difficult without speaking Vietnamese, custom made a safe packaging for 2 drawings we had purchased, did our laundry, and arranged a car to take us to the airport on departure. The Homestay is tucked away above a shop and Huyen & her family occupy 5 rooms of the 9 room house. It was lovely to be made feel so welcome in their home. We also really enjoyed their playful Pomeranian, Bo! Nothing
- Svobodová (10/5): Exceptional - We had an awesome time in this big room with private bathroom which was very clean and also a small kitchen with fridge. Bed was big, in the night There was a bit noise from the street but just in some moments up to midnight. Everything was very nice for us. Thank you! It is a bit hard to find this place ať the first time, the adress is corect but booking location is on the next street.
- Charlie (8/5): Very good - Comfortable room. It’s very much a home stay so you’re in the midst of a Hanoi family home, the couple running it are very nice. Great location on the edge of the old quarter and close to where lots of Sa Pa tours leave from. To get into the property you need to go in through a clothes shop called ‘Shop made in Vietnam’, this was a bit tricky to work out and could be better communicated.
- Tatyana (7/5): Good - The location is good. very close to Hoan Kiem. It's very difficult to find this place. plus to get into your room you have to go thorugh the clothes store. not very convenient at night as it requires to wake up the owners to open up the door of the store.
- Zachary (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing Homestay! The family there is great and will make sure you feel welcome in Hanoi! They can arrange your trip and help you with anything you ask!
- Melania (9/5): Nice authentic homestay with great location and big room! - The family was lovely even if they don’t speak much English.
The room was very big and comfortable, with great shower and shower glass. They let me check in earlier, giving me a temporary room to have a shower and a nap before the big one was ready, it was very kind of them! Great location and I would stay there again! thank you!! They forgot about my arrival and didn’t come to pick me up at the airport but they were very apologetic and offered me a temporary room which was nice! the cleanliness could be improved. Earplugs recommended as it’s right by the main road.
- Gagné (9/5): Superb - Owner is very friendly. Made us feel like home. The location is literally perfect! Close to the attractions, yet very quiet. Nice little balcony. Nothing!
- Kurtis (10/5): Exceptional - Super nice host. Very knowledgeable and helped us out a lot planning trips and such
- Antonio (5/5): Passable -
- Olimc (10/5): Exceptional - Sweet lady who runs it gave me tea and sweets on arrival.
- Ryan (9/5): Spacious room within minutes of many attractions - We really enjoyed our stay! The tall ceilings and windows made the room feel extremely spacious and the location is perfect for exploring Hanoi.
There is a lot to do within walking distance with some delicious plastic table restaurants right around the corner. There is even a balcony that you can use off one of the main areas if you have some free time.
The lady was super kind and helpful. We really appreciated her hospitality. Thanks for a wonderful stay! The loft area was not accessible although in the end, it didn’t matter. We did not end up spending much time at the home stay as there’s so much to see and do in the city.
- Hannah (5/5): Passable - nice people wasn‘t clean, bathroom mouldy, smelled bad, dark room
- Koen (9/5): good price quality -
- Karla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aman (7/5): Good -
- Thefortunecat (10/5): Fantastic and excellent in every way. - Best bed ever. Amazing location. Friendly hosts. Everything was great.
- Louis (10/5): Super nice Homestay! Clean, top location and top host - The Homestay has a top location. The host will make you feel like you are at home. Spacious room equipped with everything one could need. nothing
- Tien (10/5): amazing - everything, clean and friendly nothing
- Su (9/5): Balcony homestay - Hot air conditioner in the room Toilet is a bit wet
- Thomasr (9/5): Superb -
- Elanie (9/5): Enter through the clothing store - Beautiful room, adorable host. Very homey feeling. Felt like a secret agent entering through a mirror I paid for the bigger room, but because I was alone the upstairs part was locked.
- Charlotte (7/5): Really convenient no frills place to stay with a friendly family who are happy to help. - Located in the old quarter made this a great place to explore Hanoi and experience local life. The family and their dog were super friendly and the host was flexible and helpful. It was our first homestay experience so we didn't know what to expect but we did enjoy being with a local family. It was noisy at night due to the traffic but I knew this would be the case and it was all part of the experience in Hanoi.
- Cheah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lili (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dhunyawat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ryan (8/5): Nice location for a couple nights. Host was very friendly. - The host was very helpful and friendly. You enter through the host's store so it may not be possible to come and go as you please.
- Katie (9/5): Very comfy but slightly expensive compared for the area - The room was very large and very clean. The bed was also extremely comfortable. It is around a 10
minute walk to the famous Beer street. The hosts are lovely. There was quite a lot of noise from outside due to being next to a busy road. Although the homestay was really nice, it was rather expensive compared to other accommodation in the area that we and our friends stayed in. I think you could get the same standard for cheaper.
- Mathew (10/5): Exceptional - Very active location, friendly staff, nice place for comfortable stay Everything is ok
- Gabriele (10/5): Exceptional - The property is in a great location! The room is beautiful, spacious and it has all the amenities. The family was very kind and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this place for your next stay in Hanoi!
- Anna (10/5): Home! - The owner have been just amazing. Most friendly people we met in Vietnam. Felt like home. They helped us with so many things. We would love to stay there again! nothing
- Stefan (9/5): Superb - The noise from the trafic
