Guest Reviews
- Bruno (10/5): - Great beach, pet Friendly. Nice people but slow service ans few options for food. Room was nice for the price though
- Sylwia (10/5): - Alles Top.
- Roger (10/5): - Jeffery took very good care of us during our time at the beach. Front desk also very helpful.
- Jonny (8/5): - The property is on the beach and close walking distancebto middle of town.
¿Me volvería a quedar?
- Tami (10/5): - The host was very eelcoming and accommodating. Our room is beautiful with a balcony that over looks the grounds. The 2 pools give guests more space. The beach is gorgeous!!
- Francisco (6/5): - Nice location and building, my particular room #17 the same after valve did not worked on the shower and it was only hot water, there is no tv or small fridge, there should be!
- Rich (2/5): - Sent 2 emails to hotel regsrding book. No reply.
Expedia tried and slso had to give up
- Amber (8/5): - Na
- Brianne (10/5): - We stayed (group of 7) in four rooms at Casa Iguana. It was clean, the staff was attentive, and the beach club was beautiful. Would absolutely stay again.
- Ann-Charlotte (10/5): Very Nice - Bra och fräscha rum.
- Chris (10/5): Quiet and Relaxing hotel close to beach! - This was our first visit to Holbox and this property made our stay for the 7 nights very enjoyable. The pool was right outside our room and was never busy and was nice to soak in every once in a while to cool down. The pool was cleaned daily from what we had seen. The staff from the front desk, cleaners, and restaurant were all very friendly and did a great job! The cleaners were ready to go every day and kept the rooms clean. The other nice thing was the beach was right in front of the hotel where the staff was constantly going back and forth serving food and drinks all day. The area is supposed to be for the hotel guests but I did notice that people would walk down the street between from other locations to set camp there. It didn’t really affect us as we were out early enough to claim a spot but on busy times this could pose an issue. The nice thing is there is sooo many spots all along the beach with loungers I think you could pick a different spot if needed . The downside is you don’t get the benefits to be served with the food and drinks from your own hotel. I would still definitely recommend this place to others!
- Christine (10/5): Recommend! - Great location on the beach, a short walk to town, but far enough to be nice and quiet. What more could you need?
We did have a couple requests and Edwin at the front desk was happy to help. He is absolutely amazing, and totally made our stay with his great service. Highly recommend!
- Roberta (10/5): - The location of the hotel was perfect to walk to the shops and restaurants. It was one of the best places to be across from the beach!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved Casa Iguana. Small and quaint, the rooms were very comfortable, and there is AC. My King Bed Ocean View room was awesome and I had a whole second floor deck to myself. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. I do wish breakfast was included, but the prices at the restaurant are super reasonable. They serve eggs, fruit, chiliquiles, espresso drinks, smoothies, cocktails, etc. The location is unbeatable, since you can turn left and go to "town" to visit more bars and restaurants, or you can turn right for less crowds and amazing beaches. The beach right in front of Iguana is as good as any though. Definitely recommend getting a Palisade buggy rental and exploring the island up and down, but watch out for deep puddles. We went all the way down Magico, and all the way up Mosquito. The beaches are beautiful everywhere. The whole.island feels safe, and prices are reasonable. Our favorite meals were at Antojitos Karasin for local empanadas and sopas, and Parador 33 for Argentinian steak dinner. Casa Iguana is a gem.
- Juan (10/5): - Un lugar muy bonito, seguro y tranquilo. Muy buen servicio, lo recomiendo ampliamente
- Walcelio (8/5): - If you're considering Holbox for remote work, this might not be the best choice. The internet connection is unreliable, and the rooms lack proper workspaces, such as desks and chairs. However, if your primary goal is tourism, this place is fantastic! The "beach club" is excellently situated, offering a prime location to enjoy the surroundings. The service was exceptional, and I would definitely stay there again for a leisure trip.
- Jokke (10/5): Highly recommended! - Amazing place just by the beach. I had the ocean view room and loved sitting on the balcony in the afternoon. Great beach area with beach chairs, food, drinks... Room was very nice and well kept..
- Debbie (10/5): - Everything was great. Loved the location, walking distance to to town center was a nice distance. Room was comfy and clean.
- Venkates (10/5): - It's a beautiful place right across from the beach, with great access to a really beautiful part of Holbox beach, beach chairs and towels, and a restaurant that serves good food (on the property but independently run). The wifi only works - and then intermittently - in the office or by the pool, and the cell network isn't great, but both are features. It makes one disconnect and enjoy the vacation all the more. It's walking distance from the town, but far enough away that it's very quiet. And a very safe place. They do a good job arranging the transfer to and from Cancun airport.
- Teresa Lynn (8/5): - The hotel itself was very clean and beautiful! The staff was friendly and helpful. It was a short walk into town.
They were lacking in amenities - no wash clothes, hair dryer, coffee maker. Breakfast was not included as stated and the restaurant didn’t open until after 8 - had to wait until they opened to get coffee.
- Peter (8/5): Little gem - Mysigt litet hotell, med solstolar på stranden.
- Helen (10/5): - Lovely hotel on the beach with large rooms and bathroom! Highly recommended.
- Ilsa (8/5): - …
- Patrick (6/5): - Positives: direct beach access with good beach beds and umbrellas as well as bar service. New clean towels everyday for shower and beach. Helped organise taxi to/from the airport and excursions. Beach drinks very good. Safe in hotel room.
Negatives: a lot of noise throughout the night from the ATV taxis and pedestrians. Woke us up rather frequently. A/C unit was noisy, so mostly turned it off at night. Hard to keep room clean of sand as the pathway through hotel is not paved. Room had some wear and tear. Food was so so. Reception is not 24 hours. Safe a bit small.
- Helen (10/5): - Beautiful view from our room of the beach. Large room and bathroom - right on the beach!
gracias
- Esteban (10/5): - Muy bonita y accesible, gente muy amable
- Maria Antonieta Josefina (8/5): - Buena localización
- Mark (8/5): Nice boutique hotel close to town and on the beach - Great location close to town and directly on the beach. The only issue we experienced was not having a refrigerator in the room as we were there for 11 days, it would have been nice. Aside from this everything was really good.
- Gloria Desly (8/5): - …..
- Maurizio (8/5): - Very nice
- Kim Lykke (10/5): Great spot and friendly staff - Perfekt location to the beach and town.
The place is quiet and very nice. We enjoyed our stay and our private balcony.
- Verónica (10/5): - Muy bien ubicado
- Jackie (10/5): - We had an amazing time! Location is perfect with clean beaches and very walkable distance to the city center. We will be back!
- Monica A (10/5): - .
- sparrrkle (8/5): Casa Idyllic - Such simplicity and idyllic calm at this hotel. The rooms were spacious and down to earth. a splash pool that is good I'm sure if you have kids, but its all about the beach and frankly you don't ever need to put your shoes on here. Step out of your room and walk down to the beach in a couple of minutes. It feels quiet and off the grid. A small bar/restaurant and an easy walk to down. I loved it.
- Oscar (10/5): - Right off the beach, clean rooms, good quality supplies ( hand soap, shampoo, body gel, body cream) safe and water dispenser in lobby to refill your provided water carafe!! What more can you ask for??( Even appreciated that there was no TV!😮) 👍
- G9569CGroberth (2/5): No wifi in rooms, rude customer support, increased Forex charges at the property - It all started when we first arrived. My booking.com fee said that hotel would cost USD $436.64. When we arrived, they instantly tried to charge me 8600 mxn pesos. When I did the conversion in Google, it said it worked out to be 7,477.63 mxn pesos. They tried to charge us over ~1,000 mxn pesos more than the official Mexican conversion rate. We argued for quite close to an hour, called booking.com, cancelled and tried to reprocess the booking through booking.com, only this time attempting to pay directly through the booking.com app. I offered to pay directly to there bank account and a couple of other things, though they refused. They said we could cancel and take a new hotel, though my partner and I were super exhausted from the whole day of travelling and moving around large suitcases, that we did not have the energy to book and move again, especially after all the arguing. This was not the first experience I wanted my partner to have with Holbox. Totally tainted her opinion of the island from the get go.
Be careful with this place, as you will get done on the exchange rate.
To add to this, although the property says it has wifi, the rooms themselves do not have wifi. I need wifi for work and my partner who is ill and in Mexico for medical treatment, spends most her days on the bed resting connected to the the internet. For her I did my best to tether my phone which I left outside of the apartment which cut out all the time. For myself I had to go near the main front office in order to get any signal for any of my video calls. The day after the first day, we tried to cancel and re-book another hotel that has wifi access in the room, they straight up refused to refund us the next 2 days. They kept saying that every hotel in Holbox has an internet problem, though I have been here a few times and although there are general problem with internet speeds in Holbox (for those hotels that don't use Starlink), this remark was classic deflection. Casa Iguana does not have wifi access points inside each of there rooms. Our issue was that we could not get access to the wifi access point inside of our room. They ended up giving me temporary access to room 1, which was closest to the wifi access point, though this was not all the time and my partner could not benefit from this at all.
Customer service was not great at all. Our experience in general was very poor.
- U2388MIgeoffc (2/5): Very disappointing third stay - This was our 3rd stay at Casa Iguana and unfortunately will be our last. Our room was in the back of the complex, right in front of a pool that was used almost exclusively by screaming kids. We are a couple with no kids and this hotel seems to have become mainly a hotel for families with kids, so it was not at all peaceful.
The other problem was that the hotel has for some reason completely closed down its beach facilities. Last 2 stays there were palapa umbrellas on the beach with loungers and the staff from the restaurant would bring us food and drinks on the beach. All of that was gone and the restaurant didn't even seem to be open half the time. Only for breakfast - which featured mediocre food, cold coffee and slow service. So strange for a hotel right on the beach to have zero beach presence - we either had to lie on a towel on the beach or go to another hotel to use their facilities.
Perhaps they are under different management. But we can't recommend the hotel and won't be staying there again.
- suef2010 (10/5): Isla Holbox has a laid back vibe and great beach. - Casa Iguana Holbox was a great local boutique hotel. The rooms were not large but had a safe(need to get a key from reception). The room was basic but right outside was a small but great pool to dunk in. We and two neighbors jumped in during the afternoon thunder storms. The people who worked there and cooked at the small restaurant were kind and friendly. You can walk along beach to center of town in 10 minutes. The beachfront hotel was so close to the warmest ocean I've ever been in. There were no waves but a long sand bar emerged at low tide and you could walk for what seemed like miles in 4-6 inch deep water. There was no sargassum seaweed problem. The island also has bioluminescent waters and we could stamp our feet or splash with our hands and plankton glowed blue all around!!! This was beyond cool. The only downside to the island is the roads do not drain after the almost daily rains, so there are huge puddles that make walking on roads really irksome. You will get feet wet so sandals and shoes will get wet. It is not easy to get to Holbox, but worth the effort. This is not as built up as other islands of Mexico. There are no high rise or chain hotels. I will return!!
- kimberlyterry17 (10/5): Awesome Place to Stay! - My husband and I, along with 3 other couples, spent 9 nights in Holbox at this quaint and rustic hotel. This was our 3rd time to Holbox and the other couples first time and we couldn't have been happier with our hotel choice.
Our rooms were clean and had everything we needed, including a safe and filtered drinking water refilled each day.
The hotel has a restaurant on site and breakfast is included each morning. We enjoyed many lunches and a few dinners here as well. The french fries were a big hit with our group! The beach service was a little hit or miss but we didn't mind walking to the bar to get our drinks.
The on-site masseuse is wonderful but expect US prices. Totally worth it though. The two small pools were great for a quick dip.
The location was perfect - not too far from town but not too close to be bothered by the noise that has invaded Holbox :(
I wish Holbox was still the sleepy little island it once was but things are changing. Thankfully Casa Iguana has that old school Holbox charm that we adore.
- ecotube (10/5): Nice hotel at the beach - Pleasant hotel set back from the beach but with its own beach area with loungers and good beach food/drinks service. Upside no beach sound systems unlike some others if you want a quieter place to chill (personally I dislike piped background music on beaches). Ground floor room was fine if a little pokey light wise but I got a free upgrade to a bigger room. Sun loungers could do with an upgrade compared to some other hotels nearby (but admittedly much more expensive). You will have a nice stay here at a reasonable price (not cheap but not silly expensive). Staff and reception were very helpful.
- daffydi2014 (10/5): Paradise Found - This little gem is right along the hotel zone and steps from the beach. They have a very friendly bilingual staff that are most helpful in learning your way around the island. They also arranged a covid test right in my room with results s available the next day. The spa was also reasonable and the holistic massage I received left me feeling very relaxed. The rooms are cozy yet spacious and very clean. There are 2 pools and a restaurant which were also nice. If you’re looking for a reasonable rate in a great hotel, this is your place. Highly recommend!!
- 392tiffanym (8/5): Dinner and Drinks with great view! - Had drinks and dinner with our children. Pasta Bolognese was amazing. Loved onion rings and service. Great view.
Great place for kids and eating in sand looking at water was beautiful. Casual dining with good food and excellent friendly service. Well located by our hotel.
- lholguin (10/5): Excellent! - We stayed for five nights and it was wonderful. The free breakfast was good and it was on the beach. It has two pools that are larger than they look in the photos and the room was clean and had a modern feel. Shower was very large and the balcony had two hammock chairs that were comfortable and nice to relax in. Well managed with a friendly staff and we will definitely stay there again! Close to town.
- marthaamaya8 (10/5): Great time at the beach with the kids! - A couple of weeks ago we had the pleasure of visiting Holbox for the 3rd time and this is the first time we got to visit Casa Iguana, we enjoy a couple of meal there, everyone was awesome so nice and friendly, so clean too and the food delicious I highly recommend this place!
- daveomer (10/5): Best meal we had all weekend! - We stumbled onto Casa Iguana after a great day on the beach. In this time of COVID we all take precautions and this restaurant did all that. The menu is simple and straightforward and good! The shrimp tacos and the Guacamole was perfect. Really enjoyed our afternoon with a great server as well.
- rva-cam (10/5): Perfecto! - 1st visit to Casa Iguana! (Second time visiting Holbox and experiences with 4 beachfront hotels through other friends). Casa Iguana was the perfect location—a quick walk to town and the best stretch of beach. Excellent communication via email prior to travel for coordinating transport and request for a hairdryer. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The vibe is casual/relaxed/thoughtful without pretense or stuffiness. We tried to speak Spanish as often as possible, but most everyone we interacted with also communicated in English. Rooms are clean, lovely, updated and modern. Seemed to be a mix of couples and families when we were there. We had perfect beach weather all week, well maintained grounds/beach/loungers/pool. On the only evening of high winds/storm, staff thoughtfully came around to offer room service for dinner. There is access to filtered water in the lobby as well as carafe in room. Breakfast included continental options as well as one fresh made option from limited menu (chilaquiles, omelet/eggs, pancakes, etc). Would *absolutely* stay here again (ocean view room was fantastic!) Few tips: You will need pesos—Exchange ahead of time, small bills are best. Please remember to tip!!! Bring a refillable water bottle. Take a trek toward the point at low tide. Enjoy the town, the nature, the people, the murals and the sunsets!
- David (10/5): - PERFECT location, cleanly, charming, great (no frills) spa service. Simpler than other hotels nearby but outstanding. Nice restaurant on premises, simple pool, comfy bed.
- Latinasoy (2/5): Two nights at Casa Iguana- Non vale la pena - I booked Casa Iguana after checking the reviews however what I missed was that all the majority of the recent reviews where by local guides? Maybe they get some kind of deal? My experience was that it did not meet my expectations especially considering I was paying 3000 pesos per night! The accommodation was very basic but clean! The pools were not very clean and hardly used except but the children of the guests! The breakfast was three options eggs, pancakes or chilaquiles. The coffee was weak the refresco un drinkable! The service pretty nonexistent! I was given zero orientation! I had to ask other guests if the chairs on the beach side belonged to the hotel as there was no signage or staff! Location was good! However one would expect quite a bit more for the rate charged! PS This was a quadruple room but I was on my own and I cannot imagine sharing it with three others! I was not given any credit even for the $18 breakfast x 4 charge that I believe is included in the room rate and I could only eat one breakfast! Not somewhere I would return to! I did ask management about a room change as I was supposed to have gone with a friend that was unable to make it but they would not reduce the rate? Money hungry!
- alittleearthy (10/5): I couldn’t ask for more! - We stayed 1 night and wish we had stayed one more. The staff were accommodating and pleasant. We received a balcony room, kitchen, out door hammocks, beautiful bathroom all with stunning architecture. Everything was structurally beautiful from the bed frame to the countertops! Very simple but much more then we expected from such a small island! The breakfast was delicious and they make a good cup of coffee!
My husband had mentioned that we had just married and they turned our towels into these adorable birds on our bed!
We are well traveled people BUT we are not 5 star resort people... we love the little things and this was a perfect little nook in paradise that gave us privacy and peace!
- LauraMacio (10/5): Great Spot! - This hotel was wonderful! The rooms were decorated so cute, and mine had great views of the beach. It is a very clean facility, and the staff friendly. The location is excellent, it is an easy walk into the town, and being beach front is excellent. The chairs and cabanas are the perfect place to spend the day!
- Kk (10/5): - Wonderful staff, responsive and friendly. Nice property in front of beach
- HOMER (10/5): Lovely place - We had an amazing stay and loved everything about the hotel except at the restaurant/bar. The food was really good but when we ordered we felt put off by the kitchen staff. It was like they didn’t want to be bothered. Otherwise, our visit would have been perfect!
- 512redaz (2/5): Disappointed... - Upon arrival we were given a room sticking to the beach restaurant where all day 4 or 5 staff boys were spending their days sticked to the bar wasting time, noisy and looking to anyone getting in or out of his room. Noise until 11 pm. Breakfast ready lately and never on time. Prices doubled ( we paid a 60 min massage 1400 MX $ whereas we had others at 900 or even 800 for 90 or 100 min in better level places).
The Island is really a jewel fortunately, we found super kind people in shops, restaurants, tpurs ... and this saved our stay but the level of service was absolutely not matching the costs
- AndyH335 (10/5): Great find, would love to stay again - Pro's
Beach excellent - sun beds really good and private.
Rooms good
Restaurant, loved the food, best food on the island.
Staff, excellent, especially at the restaurant.
Really close to the centre without being noisy
Stunning views.
Value for money excellent
No real cons - Wifi is terrible but we were warned this was the case.
- Sophie (10/5): - Lovely hotel in great location on the beach. Only a short walk from town (5-10 mins) which means it is peaceful at night.
Staff are lovely, breakfast is simple (eggs, fruit, pancakes). Great spa treatments available, my massage was lovely! WiFi is ok, slow but fine.
I’d recommend this hotel. It’s also very family friendly!
- Jean (10/5): Wonderful Hotel - Wonderful Hotel
- Christy (10/5): - Quiet & next to the beach. Loved our stay very much & will be back soon
- Thierry (10/5): Holbox - it was worth it. - It was an amazing stay, only a short walk from the centre of town and that means in was quiet. (Town is busy all day long). Located just by the beach, only downside no umbrellas at the beach.
- Mauricio I (8/5): - Great time with family
- tiffany (10/5): I love Holbox! - Everything was amazing!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel beautiful island
- Verified traveler (8/5): close to beach and city senter - Hotel is fine, breakfast buffet mediocre, restaurant personnel so so. Was expecting higher quality food.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice location, not so nice service - The hotel has a good location! Further out from the central, so it is quiet, however the soundproofing is not good, we could hear every little noise from the street. The design of the room is nice and simple, and it is clean.
Our check-in experience was not very nice. The staff seemed to be annoyed, that we arrived late, after 9pm.
The WIFI was not working very well.
The breakfast was bad. There was no option for vegans. The fruits were taken by the time I wanted to have some. I have asked if they has soy milk or anything for me, but my question has been ignored completely. So I had toast with jam for £170 a night. For this price, you would expect a much better service. :(
- Mario (10/5): Great experience - Beautiful place! Great food!
- monica (10/5): - Beautiful setting, gear service and good food.
Super helpful staff and thought on the customer needs
- Philip (10/5): Perfect place to relax by the beach. - Perfect beachside location with one of the prettiest beach areas on the island. We had no trouble getting a palapa or loungers any day.
The food is excellent at the restaurant and don't forget to try the Mezcalita cocktail.
Rooms 12 and 14 are the closest to the beach!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice small hotel on the beach and close to town - A great place except for the barking resident 3 dogs. If they can fix that it would get a 5/5 rating from me.
- Jonathan (10/5): Clean, comfy hotel just steps from beach - This was the second time visiting Holbox but first at Casa Iguana. Rooms were clean and comfortable. I was on the second floor and had a small balcony with hammocks. Hotel is only a 10-minute walk to the town square and just a few steps from the beach. Would definitely stay here again.
- Vicki (10/5): Boutique tasteful gem in the beach - This is a gem of a small boutique hotel on the beach. It is beautifully designed with gorgeous bathrooms, two cold pools (which I happen to covet) and a great casual friendly restaurant. All the hotels on this North side of the town are separated by a “road” between their sandy fronts and the actual ocean but it’s a very casually trafficked road with the occasional golf cart, bike, or motorcycle. The breakfasts are great with made-to-order egg dishes and freshly squeezed juices varied daily. I would definitely return to this hotel, and I’m a picky hotel person.
- JUAN M (10/5): - Simply beautiful, perfectly located and great service. Looking forward to go again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel practically on the beach - Rooms were really clean and new. Erica at front desk was great and Miguel helped us out when ever we needed something. Ana was a wonderful server at the restaurant. Would be nice if you could charge meals at restaurant to room, but I can see that with prepaid rooms that can be an issue.
- corinne (6/5): Hotel was nice, staff and restaurant good. - Nice hotel, owners have barking dogs, complained and staff said that owner gone not returning for a day...very unhappy about the fact that even after owner returned it continued.
Our room was very near, daytime and night time barking.
- maika (10/5): Nice Place and Excellent Value! - We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Iguana! It's probably not the fanciest hotel on Isla Holbox, but our ocean-view room was modern, clean and had everything we needed. The Mexican Modern beachy vibe in the large king bedroom was pretty and not fussy and we loved the access to the outside through the sliding glass doors. Breakfast was good, and service was excellent. We travel with our 8 lb. chihuahua and we especially appreciated the pet-friendly attitude of this hotel and the access to the outside for our little dog. My only tiny complaint of our room (#12) was that it is right next to the restaurant and there is a large, flat-screen TV which is always on. They kept the volume at a reasonable level, but it was a weird thing at a beach hotel, when they could have played some great music instead! That being said, it was nice having the restaurant next to our room as we were able to enjoy breakfast right on our patio - very private! I would recommend this hotel without reservations (it's a great value, too) and would not hesitate to stay here again.
- LUIS ARMANDO (8/5): Outstanding - Excelent hotel, very nice locatin. Only complaint internet very, very slow or none
- Michael (10/5): Holbox is unlike anywhere we have seen - We stayed for 5 night for the first time in Holbox and it was a great stay. The location is walking distance to everywhere and right near beach. The staff was amazing the breakfast was great eggs as you order! Definitely be back there again!
