Guest Reviews
- Nathan (10/5): - As an American, I’m glad a ventured off the beaten path a bit. Scorpion house exudes character that the corporate hotel chains cannot match. The owner is an ex-archeologist and was happy to assist with setting up an itinerary. It’s highly recommended to see the valley of the nobles! Nothing
- Danhong (9/5): - Nice house with comfortable bed! Great hospitality and thank you!
- Arnaud (9/5): -
Niente
- Natasha (10/5): The warm hospitality made us feel like personal guests and the house’s vernacular architecture was beautiful, charming a - The design of the house (vernacular, mudbrick, à la Hassan Fathy) is both functional and beautiful, with numerous quiet places to take the air in sun or shade enriched by the play of light through pierced walls and balustrades. The rooms are full of books and interesting objects - it feels like a home rather than a hotel. The west bank location worked well for us, with a main road nearby but not intrusive; sometimes we walked, sometimes we took a microbus or called a taxi. The home-cooked vegetarian food was delicious and extremely good value. There was nothing we didn’t like.
- colombo (8/5): - Il cibo, la struttura tradizionale, la pulizia e l organizzazione
- Erika_Giovanni (10/5): A beautiful place - The hotel is a true gem! We felt as if we were living inside an Arabian tale. Every decoration and piece of furniture is placed with such care, creating a warm atmosphere and incredible vibes. The terrace overlooking the rooftops is absolutely adorable. A special bonus for us was all the furry friends of the house, we loved cuddling them!
The owner is kind, welcoming, and genuinely delightful to get to know. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a truly special stay in Luxor. nothing
- Milica (10/5): Such a warm, cozy stay with the sweetest hosts. I’d happily come back - I honestly loved everything about this place. Every little detail was just so thoughtful and special, and the whole vibe made it such a fun and relaxing stay. The dog and cats were great company, they made it feel even more cozy and homey. And the owner is such a kind soul! He made us a delicious breakfast and took the time to chat with us, which made the experience feel really personal and warm. I truly felt welcome from the moment we arrived. If I ever come back, this is 100% where I’d stay again. 💛
- Lea (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Beautiful home away from home - What a property… I felt like I time travelled and ended up in some Arabic fairytale looking land… The hospitality of the hosting family was beyond any expectations. Thank you so much for looking after me and I cant wait to be back some day!
- Oksana (9/5): - Located super close to the valley of kings and the rest of east bank famous sightseeing places, very easy to catch a taxi from there. Super friendly staff, the owner is very chill and welcoming. The breakfasts and dinners were the best that we had in Egypt.
Very much recommending the place.
- Dr Yaseen (10/5): Like staying with family - Tayeb and his staff took excellent care of me and my family. His house is an authentic Egyptian family home and he takes pride in looking after his guests. Breakfasts are varied and filling. My children loved playing with the cats of the house.
- wim Schelstraete (9/5): Super leuke overnachting.
- Ahmed (10/5): A Stay That Feels Like Family (A Slightly Unhinged Review) - If you’re looking for a place in Luxor that feels like home, but cleaner, friendlier, and run by someone who actually likes you, this is it. The owner, Tayeb—whose name literally means “good-hearted person” in Arabic —might as well have been named “Human Golden Retriever.” From the second we walked in, he treated us like long-lost cousins finally returning to the homeland for a proper feeding…. even if those cousins happen to be one slightly sarcastic, grumpy Egyptian with an identity crisis and one extra-white American beauty from upstate New York who had never set foot in Egypt before.
And then there’s Luciana, objectively the cutest dog in Upper Egypt (don’t argue with me), along with a few rescued cats who’ve clearly decided they own the place now. As animal lovers, my wife and I basically ascended into heaven. The man doesn’t just love his animals; he’s out here rescuing neighborhood strays like some Upper Egyptian Avengers initiative. If kindness was a profession, Tayeb would be a tenured professor.
The house itself? Pure Nubian beauty. He designed and built it twenty years ago with his friend, back when he was still deep in the tourism world. The place is basically an art gallery pretending to be a home. Murals on the walls, handmade furniture, artifacts and trinkets everywhere. You don’t just stay there; you browse it like you’re in a living museum curated by a man powered exclusively by hospitality and tea.
When it was time to leave, we hugged goodbye like brothers torn apart by the cruel winds of travel schedules. It already felt like we were leaving family behind. And THEN came the incident that confirmed this man is running on a higher moral operating system than the rest of us. We were already well on our way to Aswan when he messaged me a photo of my wife’s earbuds. These earbuds, by the way, are mission-critical equipment she uses to survive my snoring. Without them, she’d be forced to kick me in my sleep, and honestly nobody wins that battle. After I confirmed they were hers, he somehow found a driver heading to Aswan, handed the earbuds off like a classified diplomatic package, and got them delivered to us. He refused tips, refused “compensation,” refused everything except the chance to just be a good human. “I would want someone to do the same for me,” he said. Meanwhile, I’m questioning my whole personality.
People like him remind me why I’m proud to be Egyptian. And they give me limitless ammunition to remind my American wife that my country produces humans of superior emotional engineering.
(Emily, I love you. Please do not leave me. I am extremely delicate.)
If you want a stay that’s beautiful, heartfelt, culturally rich, and hosted by a man who might actually be a national treasure, book this place.
- Guillaume (10/5): Expérience a vivre! - Accueil très chaleureux. Achitecture traditionnelle magnifique.
- Sven (10/5): - The house is beautiful and Tayib is a fantastic and welcoming host. I had lot's of fun playing with the dog and cats. The breakfast just keeps coming until you can eat no more. zero
- Iuliia (10/5): The most cozy place! - We liked absolutely everything about this place, 11 out of 10! Cozy, super clean, so many flowers and small beautiful details, wow!
Tayeb was extremely helpful and welcoming, he organized most of the activities in Luxor for us.
Breakfasts are huge, fresh, very delicious and different every day Wifi was not super stable
- Toni (10/5): -
- Jonathan (9/5): I am grateful for having stayed at this beautiful location and having met such a wonderful host. - I liked the sustainable architecture, the convenient location, the food and the hospitality of the owner. The mattress was a little wobbly for my taste. A little uncomfortable, but not bad for a short stay.
- Aurosree (10/5): A Cozy and Authentic Stay in Luxor - I would highly recommend Scorpio House Luxor. It has a cozy and homely vibe, offering a peaceful retreat away from the busy East Bank of Luxor. The surroundings are filled with traditional houses, adding to the authentic charm of the place.
The host is incredibly kind, welcoming, and humble, making you feel right at home. If you stay here, be sure to try their breakfast and dinners—they are absolutely worth it!
- Matthew (10/5): Transcendental. - If you are a traveler with any sense of adventure and desire for a local experience, Scorpion House is for you. Easily, the highlight of our entire trip. Beautiful rooftop views of the valley and the best food in Egypt. Mr. Tayeb has had quite a life and I highly recommend spending some time chatting with him. He is a gracious host and a phenomenal chef. I would return to Luxor just to stay at Scorpion House. Do not miss a once in a lifetime opportunity to enjoy some Egyptian hospitality. Tayeb also employs a wonderful driver named Ahmed. When our tour with Travel2Egypt (trash) cancelled our Luxor tour at the last minute, Mr. Tayeb arranged a trip with Ahmed for the day who was phenomenal and showed us some extra sites we didn’t even know about for an insanely good deal. Will recommend to everyone. We lost our wallet by the pool and Mr. Tayeb’s friend found it and returned it. Just some of the best energy. Tayeb has friendly cats and dogs around in the house, which made it feel like home.
- Jeroen (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely wonderful experience, a warm welcome, a home away from home. Highly recommended as a base to visit the sites on the west bank.
- Hesham (10/5): A peacful place and very nice staff. - The owner was very generous and nice, the place is very authentic, tidy and quiet. The place is also eco friendly.
- Mohamed (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eva (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (10/5): Wonderful - Tayyeb, the owner, is very discreet yet keeps an eye on everything so that his guesthouse is very well run. The whole place, rooms, garden, house, are decorated with taste. The breakfast and food are delicious. Only regret is that I wasn’t aware of the set dinner time so we went with the a la carte option (also really good) but missed on some chef’s special. Do ask about meal times.
The location is a little remote but it’s a perfect base to explore the West Bank (5 min drive from the Valley of the Kings). All in all a great stay. More expensive than other properties in Egypt but it is worth every penny. I wish we had a couple more days in Luxor to actually spend more time at the property (we were out all day visiting archaeological sites). I’d love to come back. That it makes me sad to continue the trip. I want to stay here and have the chef’s dinner tomorrow.
- Jean (1/5): Bad -
- Erica (8/5): Very good -
- Eszter (1/5): Bad - We were not there. It was cancelled at the last minute. When we called, the 'ste manager' who works directly the property said that they are not working with the company who manages booking.com and that accepting the booking the money was a scam. We were offered an alternative by e-mail. We tried to contact booking.com on the app, but it didn't work. We will make a separate complaint about this issue. We had to accept the other alternative accommodation which had huge issues. We will make a separate complaint once we arrive at home and the app works. We were put in an alternative place. Sekhmet Retreat. It has huge problems. Dirty swimming pool. Workers at 2 am at night! No WiFi. This accommodation has no place on booking.com. The informatiyons are false. We will make a separate complaint when we are back in England..
- Detmer (10/5): Exceptional - the staff was very responsive and provided services as we asked, including breakfast and when there was an issue with the room they immediately provided an even better alternative
- Stefanie (9/5): The place was beautiful and the staff great! Only a little cold during winter time. - The staff was great! Mohammed was super kind and solved all problems related to communication. The Internet wasn’t working all the time.
- Camila (9/5): Superb - Mustafa and his family do their best for you to feel at home!
- Kristina (10/5): Beautiful, authentic stay with the most amazing people hosting us - Incredible, the family were extremely warm and welcoming. The home made cooked dinner was authentic and full of Egyptian flavour, you really won’t find this at any restaurant. The grounds were stunning, a shame we could explore the full house as it was shut due to it being off peak but nonetheless we had an amazing stay and was so glad we picked a rural experience to really show us the beauty of Luxor and its friendly people. We struggled to locate it but that’s a Google maps/Waze issue. The house is distinct so once you do find it, you’ll find your way easy.
- Leisa (9/5): Beautiful stay in Luxor - The beautiful room and oasis style gardens were just beautiful. The owner is warm and there whenever you need and truly cares about providing quality and a lovely experience. The expectation of tipping in addition to whatever is arranged.
- Sarah (8/5): An oasis in the dessert - Great atmosphere, an oasis in the midst of the heat, with beautiful garden full of colour and different plants.
Rooms felt cool and at night the ceiling was designed in such a way it looked like stars shining in the sky.
The family were very friendly and very helpful, even taking my husband down to the shop so he could buy some drinks.
The home cooked dinner was amazing! One of the best meals we had in the whole of our visits in Egypt. Check in was very strange - our taxi couldn’t find the place and no answer when he tried calling - eventually found the wrong door and was told to go around, but once there couldn’t find anyone, thankfully our driver went hunting and found someone who didn’t seem to be expecting us/know how long we were staying. Our taxi guide wanted to take us somewhere else as he wasn’t happy with the place and didn’t feel it safe for us, but we insisted on staying as the reviews had been good and we’d paid up front.
No water for the first few hours due to their pump not working which put a dampener onto the stay as we were told it was everywhere with no water but our friends staying in a room in the same village had no issues.
- Niccolò (9/5): Super guesthouse in a strategic position. - We enjoyed the place. The House is a strategic position close to the main site of luxor westbank. The host helped us to rental bike and to manage our transportation from the airport and to the harbour of the Nile. Internal courtyard and terrace were nice and comfortable to enjoy the evening hours. Breakfast super good and different every day ;-)
- Belinda (1/5): Didn’t actually stay here - Nothing. When we arrived, we were told we didn’t have a booking with them. The owners had divided the business and we were sent to another location.I had exchanged many messages with them before arrival and this was NEVER mentioned. I don’t know how they decided that we were to go to the new place but the person at this location was rude.
- Olya (9/5): It was a very relaxed stay. - The rooms are spacious built in traditional Egyptian style, but at the same time they are modern with hot shower and bath. A family is taking care of the guests, and they are very hospitable and friendly. The wife made delicious Egyptian food for us. We felt home 🙏❤️ The garden was the best spot of the property. And we could have breakfast and dinner at the garden.
- Marie (1/5): Attention! Don’t book it! - ATTENTION! DON’T BOOK IT! Read this before: When we arrived, the owner didn’t let us in the house and yelled at us. With the help of our driver (cause we had no Egyptian number & no Internet) we called the number from this site(Ann). She told us that they have some problems & either we go in the place next door or we get a refund. Cause it was already late, dark and we had no Internet, so actually we didn’t had any possibility. So we had to go to Sekhmet Retreat Centre-you will find this place on booking and for a cheaper price…when we arrived there was no electricity & it was dark. We had no internet for one day. In this place we meet plenty of guests who had all the same situation-so it really feels like a scam. And I felt really sorry for the host there, cause he was a bit overwhelmed with all the guests, but he tried his best & its not his fault. Why did they don’t tell us before? We asked for a refund for the price difference-the answer was that they tried to help. Haha!
- Walton (10/5): Exceptional - It was magical space, friendliest staff and amazing food.
A great location to start sightseeing the Valley of the Kings and other sights
- Miguel (9/5): All perfect. The owner is a dedicated person that was very supportive all time. - I liked the room, the facilities and welcoming staff and owner.
- Faville (6/5): Pleasant - Dinner was great Breakfast was the same each day. There was a lot of construction outside the building. The owner was a little intimidating and unfriendly
- Sally (9/5): Highly recommend to visitors who like animals. - The Islamic design of the hotel is marvelous and the owner is very friendly and helpful. The homemade dinner was amazing.
- Malachy (10/5): A delightful, family-run guest house near all the West Bank’s sights. - The beautiful traditional design and warm, friendly hosts make this a guesthouse to remember. The home-cooked meals were really flavorful and the adjoining garden was an oasis of green on the West Bank. I hope to return again very soon. Little to note here, perhaps some addition lamps located around the bedroom for more even lighting. All in all, there is nothing that I did not like. Don’t let the slightly scary name put you off!!!
- Nicholas (9/5): Superb - The food was delishious, the hosts welcoming and the house beautiful! The bathroom/ shower combination is not ideal - but still very do-able.
- Lara (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! One of the best place i’ve ever been!
- Joey (10/5): Beyond and Exceed expectations! - So far this is the best accommodation that I have stayed in Egypt. is like a home stay , owner very friendly and best thing is they make the best local Egyptian food. very genuine and sincere. I think this is a must visit in Luxor, better than 5 stars hotel! nothing
- Balavignesh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heidi (10/5): Beautiful accommodation, wonderful host, highly recommend - We loved our stay at Scorpion House. It was a special part of our holiday to stay in such beautiful, authentic Egyptian accommodation. Abdul was also a wonderful host. He is a very kind, genuine and caring person who took time to chat to us and make sure we were comfortable. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Luxor. Getting a taxi that wasn't over charging was a little tricky. Abdul has a taxi driver he trusts. I would recommend asking him for the contact or arranging with him how to get to the accommodation.
- Jeyaraj (10/5): Exceptional - - Amazing host (arranged local tours to the places at a very affordable cost)
- Such a lovely traditional property ( I would recommend anyone to stay here rather than in hotels, gives you a feel of a traditional and contemporary Egyptian house
- the cat and dog :) so friendly
- Very nice warm breakfast
- Amazing homely and beautifully preserved property. Our room was in the top corner so Wi-Fi was very weak, but this is the case in pretty much whole of Luxor areas, it's better to buy an orange or Vodafone data sim card and use it, it's quite cheap and convenient.
- Guillem (10/5): Amazing place - The house is ruled by an amazing and loving couple. From the moment you check in they make you feel like at home. If you stay make sure you have dinner there since the food she cooks is just stunning. The hotel is great, with beautiful traditional architecture and bedrooms are big and really nice. There's also a pool and a garden. There's no better place to sleep in Luxor !
- Donna (10/5): - We loved everything about this place. The owner helped with all the things we wanted to do. The room was amazing! Out of all the places we stayed on this trip. This was by far our favorite. The home cooked meals were a highlight of the trip. Tayeb and his staff made it feel like we were family. I highly recommend The Scorpion House.
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional - The best stay we've had in Egypt! Simply wonderful guest house - a real oasis in the bustling west bank of Luxor. Tayeb and his family were extremely hospitable and knowledgeable on all things Luxor and Egypt and helped us out with taxis and recommendations. Breakfast was lovely and room was huge. Thank you so much Tayeb, we'll be back for sure.
- Michiel (10/5): A oasis in Luxor <3 - Felt like home since the first hour. Incredibly beautiful oasis in the west bank of luxor. The family who runs it are the sweetest hosts, the food they make is NEXT level & the overall vibe is just so lovely with their dog and cats! (Plus the beds are one of the comfiest i slept in in whole Egypt)
Tip: The location seems not central but its perfect!! Super close to the Valley of the kings and to reach the east bank you take the local mini van down to the river and then the local ferry setting u back to 35 pounds to reach the center of luxor (karnak temple luxor temple etc) . And your staying in the quiet part of luxor. No hassle around you. Everything was just wonderfull.
- Polle (10/5): Best place in Luxor - Beautiful house, great owner. Nice, spacious rooms.
- Sophie (10/5): You MUST stay here, as long as you don't mind being woken up in the morning. We will be back! - Lovely guest house, the dinners are incredible. The owner and his wife are so friendly and helpful. lovely rooftop to sit and watch the sun set, beautiful gardens and small swimming pool, cats and a dog, baby tortoises and fancy pigeons. very close to hot air balloons and valley of the kings. There is a little corner shop with snacks etc just a couple of doors down. There is a mosque right behind the hotel and they use a microphone for prayers, starting at 4.45am when we were there.
Try not to book through Booking.com, the hotel was told I cancelled my booking.
- Q. (9/5): Amazingly warm and knowledgeable host, great food - The host was amazing, so kind and helpful helping us get a taxi driver to get place to place. Our taxi driver was so amazing and kind as well going out of his way to show us Luxor. Also the host made us a delicious dinner being that we got to our accommodation late. It was some of the most tasty food we had out of whole Egypt trip! We really enjoyed this place and grateful the host was so great. The Wi-Fi didn’t reach our room, maybe it was the end of the building we were staying on but not a big deal!
- Erin (10/5): Great location, best hospitality in Egypt - 10/10 would recommend - Amazing location for seeing the tombs and temples. Tayeb is incredibly helpful with all things Egypt not just what’s around Luxor. His hospitality is the best I’ve experienced in all of Egypt.
Make sure to have dinner there as it’s the best food I’ve had all trip long. Breakfast is also incredibly filling with a variety of different foods every morning.
If you require a driver for anything (I recommend it for sightseeing) ask for Hassan he was a legend. He knew all of the best times to visit places to avoid the crowds and lots of local hidden gems which I would not have found otherwise.
The property itself has a pool, small library and many sitting areas. The amount of literature on the surrounding area (half French/half English literature) in the library alone makes the visit worth it. Definitely take an evening or two to read through everything and to pick Tayeb’s brain about the locals tombs. He is a wealth of knowledge.
Also on site there is a couple of really well behaved cute pets. The West Bank is quieter than city life on the East but that’s part of the charm.
For anyone who is considering going to Luxor I would 10/10 recommend staying here. Nothing it was fantastic
- Mateo (10/5): Incomparable - The space is magical. It is the perfect retreat for a vacation. It seemed a bit far from town and getting there at times was very difficult. Taxi or tuk tuk prices are not set and it’s hard to negotiate at times. It is not reachable by foot to the main part of Luxor.
- Yavuz (10/5): Don't hesitate. Book. Outstanding - We were welcomed by Tayeb and his family when we pulled up. They helped us with our bags fron the taxi. My jaw dropped. It's exactly like the photos. Tayeb built this with help from friends. Absolutely stunning home. They led us up to our private id call t a suite where it was quiet, and private with access to a roof top terrace with views of the valley of the kings. The room was amazing with dome ceilings, lead lighting windows. We had a sitting room, bedroom, closet and large bathroom, very clean, excellent air con. You can choose to stay in your room if you want privacy or be alone, but everywhere are places to sit by yourself or with others, balconies, it's amazing. The internet was the best we had encountered it had no buffering so we could watch our shows and contact family with ease. The breakfast was excellent and included but if you wanted to have dinner you could pay a fair price for a series of absolutely delicious courses of the best food. We will be back. It feels like home. Lovely family. Thank you
- Amanda (10/5): Wonderful hospitality and a truly memorable stay - Absolutely charming guesthouse run by Tayeb and his family, who were extremely hospitable and welcoming – they were kind enough to let us check in early after our overnight train from Cairo and to keep one room for a few extra hours on our last day. The breakfast is incredible – we couldn't believe how much food there was, and it just kept coming! The aubergines with tahini were a particular highlight, and we all loved the halawa spread; we also had dinner one night, which was one of our favourite meals of the whole trip. For our second night, Tayeb recommended an amazing local restaurant, which was our other favourite meal! He also arranged a taxi to bring us back. Nothing was too much trouble, and we felt totally relaxed and at home. Would recommend without reservation to anyone wanting to experience Egyptian hospitality and to support a local family. Oh, and we loved being able to watch the hot air balloons over the Valley of the Kings in the morning! Great viewpoint from the terrace. Scorpion House is in a great location for accessing the West Bank sites, but there isn't much within walking distance. (Though there is a great little souvenir shop with sensible prices just around the corner!) This isn't even really a negative – just something to be aware of :-)
- Eric (10/5): A VIVRE ABSOLUMENT ! - The overall friendlyness of all of the People we met and the hospitality they showed towards us all
Brekfast and meal were good
Cleanliness of bedrooms and bathrooms
The property were waiting for us until 3 pm (cause flight in late) with smile and he didn't ask we pay the meal we ordered before
The pool and the garden
The quietness
The animals To leave, we should prefered to stay longer
- Ahmet (10/5): Exceptional - The owner of the place and his family are really good at their job. I would recommend that place if the location is not very necessary for you.
- Aris (10/5): Overall an amazing experience. - We absolutely loved our stay here and would recommend this to everyone.
The host Mr. Tayeb took such great care of us as if we were family members. Luxor was our final destination in Egypt and we honestly felt so warm and well taken care of there.
The whole place is his his house and seems like a castle on the inside and has a cozy Egyptian atmosphere. He has some animals and a big garden with pool as well.
We had breakfast and dinner both days we stayed and it was honestly the only REAL homemade food we had all week. So tasty and clean and authentic.
On our first day, he showed us two different rooms and let us pick our favorite and then showed us around the premises, the garden and everything. On our last day he woke up at 06:30 in the morning to make us breakfast and escort us in the taxi. He even offered a small goodbye souvenir which we really appreciated.
10/10 Thank you! There wasn’t a door in the bathroom and it was a bit uncomfortable.
- Lilian (1/5): Bad -
- Rodrigo (10/5): Real Egyptian experience - Very warm and cozy house. Tayeb is an incredible host. Food is amazing The history of Tayeb and family atmosphere.
Thank you for the hospitality.
- Edita (8/5): Cozy guesthouse with lovely lunch and dinner - Really Cozy and beautiful guesthouse with very kind hosts. Best part is the lunch and dinner made by Doaa - best food I had in my trip to Egypt (I visited many diffirent cities) very cozy sitting eareas, and the atrium/courtyard is really lovely place to stay, especially in the evening. Loved the dog, and all the small cats around. My toilet had problems flushing, and i did’nt like the aircondition positioned right above my head so that the cool breeze would target my feet all Night - Got sick because of it. Could not bear it without due to the heat.
- Skordemir (9/5): lovely people so interesting building - personel are amazing
pet animals are so lovely
breakfast is good
rooms and the building us very interesting maybe the most interesting one i have ever seen there was no bathroom door
location is a bit far
- Matt (10/5): Perfect. Highly recommend. - The cooking and pool were both wonderful. We loved the hosts. The perfect place for Luxor accom. Sometimes too many flies around, but not that bad. The location was a tad remote. Wish we had two more days there.
- Bouaroua (10/5): Exceptional - So homey, comfortable, welcoming.
Nice décoration, Nice food, Nice garden, Nice pool, and amazing people
- Rahma (10/5): Amazing! - The host Tayeb and his wife are amazing! They go out of their way to make you feel welcome and help you. Tayeb booked all our taxi rides and tuktuk rides and helped us plan our trip, even showing us the nearest mosques when we needed to pray. Their hospitality was amazing and the hotel itself is beautiful. It is simple and rustic but the pool is amazing and our room had everything we needed. I couldn’t recommend this place more.
We had a delicious dinner whilst staying here and it was one of the best meals we’ve eaten whilst travelling! N/A
- Lei (9/5): Superb - This hostel was out of my expectations. Good design with good service, you should definitely having lunch or dinner here, the dishes were so amazing!
- Xiaolu (10/5): This is a very warm homestay and everyone is so friendly. I'll remember every day that I had spent here, the work I -
- György (9/5): Superb - Super nice hosts, amazing food. No door on the bathroom, only a curtain.
- Cecile (10/5): Exceptional - With no doubt, we really appreciated the kindness and hospitality of Tayeb and Doa that fill the house. We had the chance to get more than a room, we had a suite with lots of space. We spent time on the roof and had a lovely dinner.
They take care of you like you were family. My friend had stomach pain and Doa brought us some smecta without even asking. That was so kind of her.
We also took time to talk about archaeology with Tayeb, and learned a lot about the old village of Gouma built on ancient tombs.
This place is simply one of the most genuine place we stayed, although it can be a bit far away from the River of the Nile.
- Philipp (10/5): A great and beautiful place with wonderful people - Amazing house, lovely family, fair price - our son loved the family and the families pets. We all really loved everything about our stay. It is the best place to stay in Egypt - we are sure!!!
- Thomas (1/5): Bad - Place was closed, no refunds given, total scam, left us stranded in Luxor
- Nlycas (10/5): Exceptional - We spent 3 nights at Fayeb and his family and felt treated like family members - and more!
Large, clean rooms, A/C, silence, stunning architecture and the best food (breakfast & dinner) we had during our trip to Egypt. After arriving very late on the first night and having a DELICIOUS dinner, we didn’t think twice to have all dinners at the guesthouse. It was cozy, delicious, home-made and honestly the BEST. Fayeb and his family really take care of their guests and pets, which we loved as this is not common in Egypt.
We hope to visit again soon ❤️ N/A
- Yara (10/5): Did not want to leave - Tayeb as we say in arabic is a name truly given to the owner of this house, meaning he is genuinely the nicest host we have met. The service and accommodation was beyond what we expected from the cleanliness, hospitality and overall needs.
Tayeb and his wife were very helpful when needed and breakfast time felt like we were sitting in our family home. The decor and overall atmosphere made us want to cancel the rest of our activities just so we can spend more time in the guest house. The room as good running cold & hot water, very good AC and very clean.
I would recommend to bring your own towel just for personal hygiene but it is still veryyyy clean.
We traveled as 2 females friends and we felt extremely safe in a new and remote place which is rare in this day an age. If you are ever visiting Luxor make The Scorpion House your home.
It is super close to all the activities in the West Bank (by car) : Valley of the kings (5min), Valley of the queens (8min), Hot Air Ballon (10min), Quad Bike Safari (10min). So you definitely get that extra rest and is the last too get pick up and first to get dropped off from your activity.
It is also only a 15min drive to the Nile where you can enjoy dinner by the Nile so definitely not that far and highly recommend.
Thank you again Tayeb and hope to visit you soon.

Thank you again Tayeb and hope to visit you soon. Honestly nothing at the location made us uncomfortable or not want to come back. The only note to take is if you are not fond of animals or pets, Mr Tayeb does keep pigeons and chickens outside the home so the rooster might awake you by dawn but then again you have to be up bring an early to enjoy the activities in Luxor.
- Christian (10/5): Wonderful host, excellent meals - Tayeb is a warm and welcoming host who cooks wonderful meals and is both very helpful and very generous. The children loved the presence of many animals, as well as the pool.
- Malek (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful authentic house and most welcoming and attentive host. Our favorite stay in Egypt was in this hotel.
- Dario (10/5): Simply amazing! - My wife and I love to travel and we concurred that this has been - simply put - one of the best places we have ever stayed in!
Warm hospitality is often not found in big, luxury hotels, but in someone's home. Tastefully built, designed and decorated by the owner, Tayeeb, himself and his fellow archaelogist friends based on traditional Nubian architecture. It was a haven where one could relax and escape from the hustle and bustle in Luxor. We felt so welcomed by Tayeeb and his wife, Doaa, as well as their dog and kitten, waking up everyday to the chirping of the birds and crowing of the roosters. We felt right at home during our short stay there.
We also organised drivers and tours through the hotel and were very happy both with the received services and the very fair prices which were far better than anything that is offered on the street (yes, I know you can haggle, but it's much nicer to start with honest prices to begin with!).
And I haven't even talked about the food: we enjoyed the food so much that we actually opted to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at the guesthouse whenever our schedule allowed it. Thank you, for all the delicious local dishes that you have cooked for us, the kind of food that you cannot find in any restaurant in the whole of Egypt! Every dish is full of flavours and you can taste the love and effort that go into cooking them.
- Jonas (10/5): Heartfelt stay - Beautiful man running this beautiful house of inspiration, good vibrations, deep knowledge and Singer curiosity. Big heart
- Sweta (9/5): Superb -
- Pawel (10/5): Very blessed to be the guest in Scorpion House. - Wonderful design of the house - including all the details both inside and outside.
