- Cabanas (6/5): -
- Jamie (10/5): Incredible location, food and night skies - We booked this place as something a little different on our 3 week honeymoon tour of NZ. Absolutely loved this location being up in the mountains with such a friendly bunch of staff. The food was brilliant for both dinner and breakfast, and added plus of insanely clear night skies The road up was quite a long drive along a gravel path, but we were lucky to have an SUV so it was no problem

- Andrew (8/5): - Exceptional views, friendly staff and good food. The restaurant / lounge area was large and comfortable. The bunk beds were not the most comfortable, and although it was in theory a 6 berth room, it was only just comfortable for 3 with minimal luggage.
- Jory (9/5): Beautiful views from a very comfortable and friendly lodge. Dunny and his staff were fantastic hosts! - Welcoming, helpful, and friendly staff. They shared lots of info about the area, and made sure we were comfortable. Loved the mt. Bike tracks right outside the door. Comfortable lodge with a great family restaurant.

- Hao Chien (10/5):
- Hao Chien (8/5):

- Liana (8/5): Amazing location, exceptional service, awesome facilities, lovely family feel, and awesome food! - I love the welcoming feel, the staff were amazing and the food and drink absolutely stunning. I'm used to home comforts so staying in bunk beds and with shared bathrooms was not my cup of tea but despite that we had a wonderful stay and would go back again in a heart beat. What a special place! The bed was really uncomfortable, not having options for one person per room, vomiting at the smell of someone else's poo in the morning, yuck!

- Ploywadee (7/5): -
- Gayatri (10/5): Very Memorable inspired back packing - Very cozy , nice and clean
- Lucie (7/5): Great for mountain lovers! - Friendly staff, good food Pricey food, room was pretty small for 6 pax (difficult to open suitcases) and mattresses of double beds were leaning towards the middle
- Michelle Anne (10/5): -
- Sandra (1/5): - Vorsicht Scam!
- Federica (8/5): Beautiful place even in summer - Location and lodge is beautiful I didn't have a good sleep, kids kept waking up but not the place fault
- Orianne (9/5): - Amazing view
- Cate (9/5): - Vibes! Location! Cabin building! No outside food, expensive to buy the food there
- Melanie (9/5): -
- Wei (10/5): - with grate view and unique experience
- Patricia (7/5): Good -
- Marc (8/5): - It's a nice accomodation in a very nice area, with resto and bar. We had a short 3 day holiday with 2 kids, very friendly and helpfull staff.
- Rf (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the remotes of this gorgeous scenery. Lodge was incredibly homely. Staff fantastic.
- Spencer (10/5): - Beautiful place!
- Toby (10/5): Loved it! - Fantastic location. Great lodge. Nice helpful staff.
- Alex (9/5): Superb -
- Hanna (10/5): Exceptional - Location is incredible for hikes and watching the stars plus staff was super friendly Nothing.
- Su (8/5): Very good - The breakfast was abundant, and the accommodation was secluded and very quiet. If our flight isn’t delayed next time, we would love to check in earlier and experience their off-road vehicle rental. This place is a paradise for outdoor activities, but unfortunately, we only stayed as a stopover this time. Even after dining hours, the common area remained filled with the smell of cooking oil and smoke. Additionally, one of our beds had a broken light. To top it off, driving in after dark is highly challenging—the pitch-black mountain road, low visibility due to fog, and rabbits frequently crossing make it quite dangerous.
- Buster65 (10/5): Great views Great beer Great food - Dunny the boss he makes you feel most welcomed.....
Out in the middle of nowhere about 6km from the main road. You think you're not going to get luxuries, how wrong I was.
Great at night for looking at the stars.
- Nao (8/5): Unforgettable stay! - My stay at Porters Lodge was great. It has got an amazing view and a very cute dog. I found the breakfast a bit too expensive, but other than that, everything was great! Breakfast fee.
- Bernhard (6/5): Pleasant -
- Edward (10/5): - loved the atmosphere
- Dewi (8/5): winter will have spectaculer view -
- Kane (8/5): Very good -
- Tommaso (8/5): Very good - The location was really beautiful, the staff was super kind and entertaining. The fact that you have to buy food from the bar limits the possibilities for people that have a lower budget or simply do not want to buy every single meal of their stay.
- Rachel (10/5): - Great location near Castle
- Hine (10/5): Friendly kind staff - thank you. So welcoming. -
- Aung (8/5): We have stayed at other lodges before and this one gives a similar vibe. - Remoteness and beautiful surroundings The entrance door (close to Room 1) to the lodge is quite noisy. It rattles and is loud enough to keep me waking up at night.
- Semple (9/5): Lovely place friendly staff remote feel like you can really get away - We loved the homely feel the staff are so welcoming and friendly and the food is great! Good value for money and feels lively and remote Liked it all! Maybe a few extra showers would be good for the ladies but other than that all great
- Motoko (10/5): Exceptional - The location is great!!! Our family watched the night sky which was full of glittering stars. I strongly recommend the lodge. You need to bring a hair dryer!
- Yeo (10/5): Awesome - Little cosy accommodation , clean and staffs are great
- Heidi (8/5): Very good - Dinner and cocktails were exceptional. The staff were really friendly and welcoming.
- Sean (10/5): - Unreal setting, rustic character, lovely hosts, middle of nowhere, go for it!
- Maia (8/5): Very good - Beautiful location and helpful staff The showers had no lock on them just a curtain
- Kylie (10/5): Beautiful and memorable - Just a beautiful spot, so relaxing and quiet. Beautiful food. Thankyou Everything was perfect.. just the beds were a bit uncomfortable/small
- Linda (3/5): Just avoid in bad weather - I cannot understand the good reviews. Might be a nice place when you get the views and you get to enjoy the surroundings but if not, it is just a very expensive experience in the middle of nowhere. Shocking for me was that you have to drive 5 km on an unsealed road, which means you have no coverage with a rented car. As it rained when I arrived, it got really slippery and quite dangerous. When I told the staff, that it would have been nice to know before and it definitely should be in the description of the accomodation, she just laughed at me, telling me there are so much worse roads in NZ. Is it to much to ask for to just put it in the description, so that everybody can make their own decision? With bad weather, no coverage or insurance, no mobile signal and driving alone, I would have maybe decided different and not have booked it at all. Not a nice reaction from the staff. Seems to me like they love to be intransparent, maybe to trap people into booking. Following fits perfect in the picture:
You are not allowed to bring your own food, what they are telling you AFTER you booked and kindly give you 1 hour to cancel, which is not much, when you are travelling. You have to eat in their expensive restaurant, which is only open until 8. So if you arrive later...just stay hungry.
Noisy rooms and uncomfortable beds on top. Just two sockets in a room where are sleeping six, heater already needs one of these, so one left for all. Not worth the money, would never recommend it. Worst experience in NZ so far.
- Anton (9/5): Superb -
- Jesse (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place to stay in between the mountains in the castle hill area. Was much fun as there was a quiz with some locals. Other tourists and me where able to compete too and it made the night. Good kitchen, good bar. Had a great stay! Nothing
- Phoebe (9/5): Superb - Beautiful location! It's hard to get to but it's stunning there The single sized bunk was a little small (I hurt my knee in the night) but overall a good place
- Nicole (9/5): Cosy lodge atmosphere in a stunning location - Stunning location, great food, cosy atmosphere at night playing games around the fire. Mattress was pretty uncomfortable, sagged in the middle so sleep wasn't great, but waking up to the view ..wow!
- Michael (8/5): Magical Winter Wonderland - Visited the day after fresh snow and the day after the full moon. So a magical alpine experience. Um breakfast was a bit pricey for a cuppa coffee and a coupla bits of toast.
- Guy (10/5): Exceptional -

- Petr (9/5): Superb - Very kind and friendly personal. Calm place, good food, not expensive. Satisfaction.
- Sarah (10/5): loved the staff and location. will definitely be back - location was incredible in the mountains
- Alison (7/5): Good - The staff were lovely.
- Sylvie (7/5): Good - The drive there is incredible and the lounge area is nice No Space to get changed in the toilets and it's very loud and creaky when people move about at night
- Clairine (9/5): Superb -
- Deepa (6/5): Pleasant - Location was stunning
Nice cafe Shared facilities+ cramped living space with no air circulation
- Amnon (9/5): Amazing place. - The location is isolated and beautiful. Very special place. Staff were friendly and helpful. The beds are not very comfy and the rooms are very small but it is worth the place and the atmosphere. The restaurant is quite good, very good burgers, pasta and salad. Especially given the remoteness of the place. It's a simple place with small rooms and shared shower/toilet. But it's a small lodge in the middle of nowhere, so that's what is special about it.
- Akhil (9/5): Superb - The view was breathtaking, and all the staff were friendly. It was great place to be at.
- Aweigel87 (10/5): Beautiful mountain lodge - What a fantastic experience. We stayed for two nights and would live to visit again to stay longer. What a beautiful mountain lodge and perfect vase for outdoor activities and sports. Really good food and drinks are served as well.
- Jane (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (10/5): Awesome and will definitely go back - Location Nothing
- Liana (8/5): Very good -
- Jona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leone (9/5): Superb -
- Amelia (10/5): - Great staff, very welcoming! Lovely space, delicious food, nice amenities.
- R (10/5): Exceptional -
- Argene (9/5): Great lodge, stunning views, delicious food, definitely recommend! - Felt pretty expensive to have to pay for the snow play area when we had booked to stay in the lodge, would have loved that to be included for guests!
- Penny (9/5): Nice for a short stay - Beautiful location with all we needed.
Staff were amazing,chatty and helpful.
The place was clean and cozy in most areas.
Overall very happy with our stay.
Cost of the room was very affordable. It was still quite cold in the bathrooms and the playroom.
Prices of food/drinks were pretty pricey but I was happy to splash out for our trip
Mattresses aren't fab.
- Sasha (7/5): Had a great time, would recommend. - The meals were really good - tasty, generous portions and good value. The place was warm. The noise on Saturday night until 11.30pm was excessive.
- Assi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Francis (10/5): Mountain Gem - Porter's Lodge is a unique opportunity to stay close to the ski field, relax in comfort and eat amazingly delicious food!! Staff are all super friendly, I felt very comfortable and well cared for. The reality is it IS a dorm share so you never know who you'll be sharing with:). I would recommend taking earplugs as well as sound travels easily in the lodge. That said, the staff made sure people respected the 10pm quiet time.
- James (7/5): Good - Friendly staff , convenient location Overpriced food and drinks . Guests should have discounted items because there is no self-catering
- Dion (10/5): Exceptional - Facilities are a lovely dormstyle bunkrooms with amazing common room upstairs with delicious food with a well stocked bar and such amazing, friendly welcoming staff members hard to find a fault.
Waking up next to the mountain is stunning, the lodge is situated in a prime location
10/10
- Maddison (10/5): Exceptional -
- Naomi (9/5): Cosy, super friendly and delicious food! - Cosy fire, great food, perfect for ski trips!
- Vanessa (6/5): Pleasant -
- Fran (7/5): Well located accomodation for porter heights skifield - Location keeps us coming back!
Food excellent ! Dinner burgers , chicken nuggets and pork ribs. Breakfast /lovely hot muffins straight out of oven. Good coffee. Hashbrown stacks. Happy hour at 4-5
Friendy staff working really hard.
Bunkroom accomodated all of us, warm and dry, linens and towels provided. A bit noisy for some of us as it doubles as a cafe . Entrance full of dirty boots at checkin. It is what it is a family friendly ski lodge . Still keep coming back as its so cloae to skifield.
Shower/ toilets okay. Shower is not private - no lockable door - two curtains
- Gilda (7/5): Good -
