Guest Reviews
- Meghann (10/5): AMAZING STAY!! - AMAZING PPL, AMAZING ACCOMMODATIONS, OVERALL AN AMAZING STAY!
- Deejay (8/5): - Beautiful property and a grand community area to prepare a meal.
- Maureen (10/5): - The Yurts are lovely, brand new and well cared for.The bathrooms are close by , clean and nice. The common space has a well organized commercial kitchen. This morning I woke up to a painted sky over the mountains. It was a lovely stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Geweldige voorzieningen , met name in de centrale keuken. Gratis fietsen. Yurt is ook erg netjes. Enige minpuntje is de weg die vlak langs het terrein loopt en soms wat herrie geeft.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Oasis Yurts in Wanaka were the highlight of our family holiday. Jo and Rusty were amazing hosts. The room was beautifully appointed with really comfortable beds. We used the free bikes and played some of the games they had available. The shared facilities were spotlessly clean and well thought out. We are still talking about our stay and wish it could have been longer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing. Our favourite place we stayed during our tour of NZ.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staying in the Oasis Yurts style accomodation was a great experience and if we are ever back in the Wanaka area this is where we will stay...
- Verified traveler (10/5): Unique take on Wanaka accommodation - Cool place to stay with a family as it’s a little unique and the facilities for cooking are amazing.
The location is close to Puzzlin World and about 5 min from the town centre by car.
Owners are lovely and keen to get to know you and the log burners are a life saver in winter!
- Francine (10/5): A True Oasis - Oasis lives up to its name. Six gorgeous and cozy yurts flank a well-equipped communal kitchen. Every aspect of this operation has been thought through to the last sustainable detail.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Absolutely brilliant, would definitely stay again :) thank you
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This accommodation was one of the highlights of our trip. The Yurts are clean and comfortable and the kitchen facilities have everything you could possibly need. It was so nice to have such a cozy, comfortable stay. They have bikes that you can use during your stay which made for a wonderful afternoon around Wanaka. Would highly recommend the Yurts to couples, families and friends!
- Derek (8/5): Something different - Something different. Has most creature comforts. In my opinion the accommodation would suit young families best. They would have a ball. Not the best for seniors for obvious reasons.
- David (10/5): Yurt stay - Great place with very friendly and helpful staff. Won't rent bikes but lend them! No en-suite but shower block and kitchen large, clean, and well-equipped. A couple of miles out of town, though.
Massive room.
- Amy (10/5): Very cute and cosy family room - The yurts are really clean, fresh and newly built. Nice and warm with the Dyson blow heater, the fireplace is also available for colder nights. Just a really beautiful property and location, walking distance to Mount Iron loop and Puzzling World. Comfortable ride into town, a lot of which is by bike path. Great staff, really enjoyable stay. It wasn't overly busy so the shared toilet wasn't a problem. The cooking facilities are amazing, multiple work stations and cook tops, heaps of utensils, cutlery and crockery, decent coffee and milk provided. Plenty of space for food storage too.
- Tracy (10/5): - We LOVED our stay at the Oasis. The staff was super friendly, the accommodations unique and very comfortable, the shared kitchen and bathrooms were SPOTLESS and so well equipped. They've thought of everything. Would highly recommend this place on your next trip to Wanaka!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is a little out of town, but thanks to that, it has enough space to have a wonderful time with the family. As almost everyone staying there, we had a rental car to go into town, but decided to spend more time using the amenities. The Yurt was beautiful and super clean. Bed was comfy and bathroom modern and clean. Highly recommended if travelling to Wanaka and wanting to experience something new.
- Catherine (10/5): Wonderful stay - This is a great location - just outside of Wanaka. Facilities are beautiful and nicer than most hotels. Shared bathrooms but in great condition and not a problem to get into. Also has laundry facilities and anything you need for cooking or barbecuing. Fun alternative to a hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The yurts are like a mini retreat with a chair by the window to watch the day fade and reawaken. Comfy beds. The kitchen is like your home with fresh coffee beans to grind and tea.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Oasis is FABULOUS! Stayed 2 nights in one of their "family" yurts which had 2 Queen beds and a bunk above (as pictured) - SUPER comfortable, really nice amenities, the yurt itself is cozy and the bathroom facilities close by (and really nice). The whole place is about a year old so everything is lovely and new. The kitchen/common area is enormous with LOADS of space, sinks, cookers so even if every person staying in a Yurt was in there at the same time there would still be plenty of room. The extra touches like coffee beans, a grinder and plungers for fresh coffee (supplied) are amazing. Jo and Rusty have done an amazing job of creating a space that is peaceful, welcoming and a joy to stay in. Although I'd initially balked a little at the price, I can assure you it's worth every cent for a unique and very comfortable "home" in Wanaka.
- Adrian (10/5): - The premises is three or four minutes drive from the town, very peaceful and relaxing. Communal kitchen area/dining and lounge a generous size. It was nice just to chill out here for two nights after some good walks in the day.
- Kathleen (10/5): - My yurt was super clean and comfortable and fun to stay in! Staff was WONDERFUL- Libby helped us choose restaurants and was incredibly nice.
The property is beautiful- landscaping is well maintained and you have a nice view of the sunrise. And it’s very quiet besides the occasional car that might drive by on the main road.
Kitchen offers coffee and tea with enough space to accommodate all who might be staying on any given day.
The little “downtown” area is not far at all - short drive away which is super convenient.
The laundry facility is a little expensive but they are newer machines than all of the other places I’ve seen in NZ thus far.
I highly recommend Oasis - if I returned to wanaka, I would stay here.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Super Zelt, Sehr hübsch und geräumig. Unbedingt mehr als eine Nacht dort verbringen. Auch Wanaka ist sehr schön.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely yurt! Needed another bedside light and a bit more ventilation but all beautifully done. Superb communal kitchen and lovely bathrooms
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very clean & well equipped, nice setting. Could do with more toilet/shower facilities when site is full. Lovely idea having free bike high but bikes need better maintenance. A bit far from town
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean. Has a large lounge area to be shared by one other room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic property. Beautiful views. The common building with the kitchen and bathrooms was lovely. The kitchen was well equipped with everything needed to make any kind of meal you wanted (after providing your own food).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very well thought out property. The communical kitchen is beautiful and fully equipped.
- Tom (10/5): Wish stayed longer. - Fantastic stay in the yurt. Facilities were way above expectations. Was very relaxing. Real shame wasnt there for a week. Owner Rusty and staff super friendly.
- Lily (10/5): - Lovely yurt experience! The communal bathrooms are clean and the kitchen/lounge area is well equipped and very cosy.
- AnhTuan (10/5): - This place is really nice, quiet and peaceful. You feel like at home, the kitchen have everything you. We will stay again when come to Wanaka
- Liz (10/5): - Lovely and peaceful, we enjoyed our stay
It was a short picturesque drive to Arrowtown the next day.
- Yi Yun (10/5): Yurt & Motel Room reviews! - We chose the Yurt initially as we thought it will be very interesting experience! It was true when we saw the yurt - nice and cosy with comfy beds, heaters and a fireplace. The common toilet was just a few metres away outside and there is a well equipped common area to cook your food. The place was reallyyy nice - just as seen in the photos.
However this was one of the last leg of our road trip and we were being lazy so we requested to switch to a normal room with ensuite toilet. We were afraid it might be cold in the night to walk to the toilets too. There were only 2 such rooms available and we stayed in 1 of them!
This might have been the best decision because it snowed in Wanaka that night and being Singaporeans who are not climatised to cold weather, the ensuite bathroom was perfect for us. We didn’t expect it to snow so we were not prepared but we definitely didn’t want to be heading out in the middle of the night in the cold!! The room was cosy and warm like the yurt except it has no fireplace. The fridge, TV, Stoves and utensils are all in a separate lounge/common area from the yurts.
This was a little far from the town central (5-8 mins drive out) but it was all worth it for the hospitality and peace (wanaka was quite packed with tourists)
- Ryan (10/5): If you want something better than average - Rusty was fantastic during check in and throughout our stay. The craftsmanship of the whole property is top notch. It was everything as advertised. Yurts were clean and extremely comfortable. The common kitchen was well stocked, clean and welcoming.
- AusinNZ (10/5): Great experience, not ideal with young kids - Before I start, I will accept that I probably should have thought through the logistics of yurt + children + no own bathroom + middle of winter a little more! Our situation was made a little more challenging yet by my husband not being able to accompany us as planned.
Anyway, the yurt itself is fabulous! As far as these things go, not that I've stayed in a yurt before. But I know that yurts don't typically have bunk beds, comfortable double beds, Dyson heaters, stoves and unlimited wifi!
The main lodge is where all communal activities take place - a shared kitchen, eating, shared bathrooms and showers. BYO food and drink.
Rusty & Jo, our hosts, were very welcoming and friendly, and it's wonderful to see such a commitment to the environment in every aspect of this build.
The location is a 4 minute drive out of Wanaka central; 3 mins away to the south is a beautiful lavender farm that we visited, and 3mins away to the north is Puzzling World, which provided hours of entertainment to my tribe.
My challenge (and self-inflicted) was the logistics of showering three young children, in the middle of winter, in a shared communal bathroom. They had to wear clothes to the shower, and of course clothes were dropped on the wet floor, people forgot toiletry items, etc, etc. Let's just say that on the 2nd morning, we decided showers were all too hard!
But I would highly recommend the yurt overall - think of it as 'glam camping'!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great, friendly hosts. Yurts are clean, cozy and comfortable. Yurts stay warm during night and are truly enjoyable. Best bed and linens in New Zealand. Hosts spared no expense in bringing an enjoyable experience for guests. Common building is thoughtfully detailed and a great place to cook, hang out and share a meal.
- fendi (6/5): Interesting Yurt experience - Lovely location, scenery and grounds.
Yurt was clean and well provisioned.
Common areas were lovely, clean and well supplied.
- yen (10/5): Very different but exciting experience in a Yurt - Brand new facility that is very eco friendly. 5 star facilities with hotel style bath room and kitchen with all utensils provided. Your have your own fireplace in the room and you will never be cold.
- penny (10/5): Lovely quiet place away from the hustle and bustle - Love what you have done
Next time I am staying in one of the yurts
Cheers guys
- family traveler (10/5): The hotel of the different kind - The whole family including teenager loved the place. The yurt room was big and comfy and had that wonderful woody smell. The super large kitchen was fabulously appointed and I made the best steaks ever in it. It had a warming cast iron oven in the center. Showers clean and bathroom with organic soaps and shampoos. We would have loved to stay longer and will definitely be back!
- James (10/5): Wonderful unique boutique Wanaka accommodation - We LOVED our stay in the yurt. We only had one night here but wished we could have stayed for a week. The yurt itself was warm and comfortable and lovely inside. There is a central kitchen and bathroom block which is brand new (as are the yurts). The kitchen and dining area is very large and well equipped, so multiple people can cook at once if required. It's also a sociable area where you can play games or chat to other guests and looks out onto a large lawn with a view over the valley. The bathrooms were spotless and I can safely say the shower was the best I've ever used. Eco friendly toiletries are provided.
Although it's on the outskirts of town, it's only 5 minutes drive into the centre where there are restaurants and cafés. Free use of bicycles is also provided and the owners were happy for us to use these after we had checked out in the morning for a ride around the local area, along the river and by the lake before having lunch in town and then cycling back.
Great service from the friendly owners too. Would 100% recommend!
- Prue M (10/5): Peaceful surroundings - Wonderful experience, friends already keen to stay next year. I’ll be back.
- Abi (10/5): Something different - Highly recommended! We loved staying in a yurt. Jo and her team were very welcoming and the facilities at Oasis are brilliant. The communal kitchen/bathroom area has everything you’ll possibly need. The site looks brand new and everything is spotless. If we come back to NZ, we’ll definitely be back!
- Jason (8/5): Fun concept and friendly staff - Was an interesting stay with a twist on being a hotel with a campus type feel. Separate buildings with self serve kitchen and accommodations was well executed. Very friendly staff.
