Guest Reviews
- kerriewhite60 (4/5): Very Hit and Miss - We have been coming to Merimbula in November for the past 3 years and always had our evening meal at the pub and thought it was outstanding , but this year something was very different maybe a new chef I don’t know but we both noticed a change .
For start last year the scallops were magnificent as an entree this year the sauce was flavourless , and no oysters mornay on the menu . I had oysters natural and they were as always a lovely size and delicious .
For main I had the Pork Belly and unfortunately I couldn’t eat it ,
It couldn’t be cut it was like leather I ate the mash potatoe and broccoli but had to leave the pork entirely , my husband did tell the assistant chef I’m presuming he was but not sure . He did apologise and said he would let the chef know . No offer of a credit , not that we wanted that but I was hungry and would have loved my Pork Belly that I was looking forward to .
Overall we were disappointed in the quality of the food
Which is shame as we love the pub and the view is top notch . Staff were all pleasant .
- 296marionm (2/5): Keep the locals happy over the tourists. - Absolutely disgusting. Staff was rude and unprofessional. Went to sit in a table that didn’t have a reserve sign, and was rudely told to move as it was reserved. No apologies just move. We didn’t even stay to eat after that. Just left.
I’ll give any business a damn tip, keep the locals who keep you in business during the quiet seasons happy. We will not be back.
- jrr270455 (8/5): Great spot for a drink and meal. - Visited a couple of times for a drink and thoroughly enjoyed. A sensational outlook, staff welcoming, beer and wine prices reasonable. Menu looks good.
- Y4449COmarkb (10/5): - I saw this hotel had mixed reviews and as I was intending on staying a night in Merimbula I thought I’d at least check it out. I can’t understand the negative reviews that I read because it was excellent. Staff were friendly went out of their way to assist, including this young man called Aaron. Absolutely nothing a problem gave me great advice about the area and what was great to eat on the menu.
- Companion62925907463 (2/5): Don’t waste your time! - Terrible place - was overcharged, twice! The staff are unprofessional, argumentative and lack customer service. Too many drunk bogans around and staff members couldn’t care less.
Food was average. It took over an hour to arrive and was cold. I wouldn’t waste your time, go to the RSL instead.
- Kerriec1616 (10/5): Great food & service - We dropped in at 4pm & loved the extended lunch special menu. Both ordered the steak with chips & salad which was Scotch & chose the mushroom sauce. It was cooked to perfection & even though on the lunch specials board was not a thin cheap option. A table looking out to the water & very friendly staff to top it off. If we were staying in Merimbula longer we'd be back for sure. Well done to Lakeview Hotel.
- RichardMeg (10/5): Great food with great views! - Had a really great meal upstairs overlooking the water. My chicken Parma was fantastic! There was a good range of foods and plenty of weekly specials. The service was very friendly and I really enjoyed their selection of songs being played in the background.
- Beverley_Jones (2/5): Disappointing - Wow this was so bad. Ordered three kids meals of fish n chips at $12 each.
Battered Flathead served with chips,
lemon and Tartare. One thin strip of fish equivalent to two fish fingers in size and a handful of smiths crisps, no tartare or lemon either.
I understand there is a potato shortage, (although other diners were eating chips as they were available for $10 per bowl) but why you would not tell diners of the menu change when ordering as I certainly wouldn’t have ordered the meal. After dropping $36 on three tiny strips of fish my kids (who aren’t big eaters) were all still hungry.
Very disappointed, I wish I had’ve read some of these reviews about the terrible meals before we went.
- 426mach (2/5): Bad Ceaser Burger - The chicken in the chicken ceaser burger was unseasoned, over charged, the sauce had now flavour at all. The only thing right was the chips.
The service was great but the food needs a lot of improvement.
- 791alistaird (10/5): Great steaks - Had a wonderful meal during mid-November. My partner and I both ordered steaks and they were wonderfully cooked to perfection and tender, especially given they were grass fed beef. My partner is celiac and I was pleasantly surprised to see plenty of GF options on the menu. We took our chances and turned up without a booking early on a Wednesday night, but it may be safer to book later in the week.
- DavidJamesConnolly (10/5): Fresh oysters and great steaks - Out of sheer curiosity as to why Qantas is now flying direct to Merimbula I dropped in. Beautiful seaside location, incredible natural features, and a sensational pub. Oysters fresh from the farm directly out the window, steaks from the locality to back it up.
The Carlton Dark beer clearly a close cousin of Tooheys old.
- lesliec317 (8/5): Very good pub food, good prices - I have eatene here several times on my visits to the town. Food generally good, I normally go for the grills, this time I had the ribs, big serving with chips and salads. The prices of food and drinks are much the same as the clubs, a bit lower I would say. Service is always good. Highly recommended.
- ianrQ2999SV (8/5): Lunch - We had lunch here today the menu was on the small size only one pasta dish which was disappointing, they had lobster on the menu but sold out that was disappointing. My brother an ex chef had a tbone it was huge anc cooked to perfection as he likes rare. I thought the prices were a little expensive and didn’t offer seniors we had chicken parmigiana they were quite nice but a little thick the rooms themselves were a little tired but had a fantastic view staff were friendly
- CarlosS644 (6/5): Bistro okay - average pub meal - Tried their Bistro. Wife had a pork burger which was nice. I had a seafood basket which was all pre-made stuff. Yes the deep fry was okay but it was a little greasy. Atmosphere was a typical pokies / RSL type of pub. Service was efficient and I guess you get what you pay for. Was it bad? No. Would I go back. Probably not.
- clr378 (10/5): Definitely the place for Lunch Or Dinner! - This is the third time we’ve been to Merimbula for a weekend away since COVID hit and discovered the Lakeview Hotel the first visit. We have tried other restaurants and clubs, but always end up back at the Lakeview for meals as they are consistently excellent. The views over the lake are lovely and relaxing, service is quick and the food really is to die for. I had oysters kilpatrick and the BBQ sauce they use is what really makes it. Hubby said the steak was the best he’s ever had, and he’s really fussy, plus the fisherman’s basket was really fresh and not at all oily. Even their chips are crispy and nice. They practice social distancing with their tables and ensure everyone signs in when entering. If you want to eat in Merimbula, you really can’t go past the Lakeview. You’ll love it!
- lesliec317 (8/5): A very good hotel bistro, service first class and food very good at decent prices. - I have eaten here on several occasions and never had a bad meal. This week I had another couple of dinners, good reception by what appeared to be new staff. I had a nice table at window, I had booked on line.
Sunday night I had the Reef and Beef, big meal, very good steak and prawns with chips/salad.
Monday night I had the Pork Ribs, big meal, full set of ribs well grilled with nice sauce and tasty. Chips and salad.
Food here is a cut above normal pub food and is my favourite dining place in Merimbula.
No complaints re food and service, all very good. Prices are very reasonable. The bistro was busy both nights. Drinks are reasonably priced. I liked the Bulmers cider on tap.
Highly recommended and I would return. Remember to make a reservation.
- Johnbow269 (10/5): Way better than just pub grub - The Lakeview bar and grill at the Merimbula hotel provided astounding food. The 500gm T-Bone was perfectly cooked and presented. Thick, juicy and supremely tender. The Panko Chicken was moist and full of flavour. The head chef, David told us the meat was sourced in the Riverina. The beast was allowed to hang for 140 days after being dispatched. Grain fed. The meat was respected by the chefs. The chickens were free range and obtained locally. David told us they sourced local, then Australian produce. The service was excellent. Prices reasonable. The view across the lake made whole experience wonderful. A bit of a drive from Sydney, but if you should find yourselves in Merimbula, it is with worth the drive to get a fantastic feed.
- sharonfill (6/5): Poor customer service - We have been to merimbula many times and have eaten at the lakeview on a few occasions, and have found the service to be excellent, the friendly French manager was lovely, but he now seems to have gone and the staffing has resorted to what can best be described as children with zero interest, one bar man spent more time on his phone than serving customers and a little barmaid was eating in the bar, just awful for what was a previously great experience, the food is the only thing I can say nice things about as the local fish was wonderful, pick up your game lakeview your letting it slip
- Gabbi222 (8/5): Great views and very helpful and friendly staff - We went for dinner, which was just your average pub food. Staff were all very friendly upstairs both waitress and bar staff were very good
As we were leaving to walk home we stopped downstairs to buy a bottle of wine and found Lance the barman to be particularly helpful and kind. We decided to walk home via the boardwalk and stated how lovely it would be to stop for a glass of wine along the way. Lance very kindly gave us 2 plastic wine glasses with our bottle of wine so we could do just that!
Truly excellent service - what a great team!
- JulieB7223 (10/5): Great choice - Spur of the moment choice for lunch .great decision on our part... table at the window with a great view of the lake..great customer service by staff ..food arrived without a long wait..we chose seafood baskets..they were delish..not greasy.. generous portion that included a fresh garden salad..the seafood was delicious..the tatare sauce served on the side tasty.. overall a fab experience .thank you.
- Jace1979 (4/5): Average - Nice out look and friendly staff but the food was very average. Luke warm chicken wings, average ribs and the worst salad I’ve had. The barman down stairs was also coughing every 2 minutes which during Covid is not appropriate. He shouldn’t have been at work coughing so badly.
- pollyl2711 (2/5): Bad Service - We were on holidays in Merimbula recently and visited the Lakeview Hotel twice. First time we were very welcomed, steak was amazing. So we then decided to return for our last night on holidays. Unfortunately we were served but a very rude male worker who had no empathy or common sense at all. We didn’t book a table as we didn’t do the first time either. We were told on entry their due to COVID limits we had to be seated in the beer garden. We had a 10 month old and a 3 year old. The weather was windy and cold. Patrons were smoking out there while we were sitting there. (Big no no). There was ample seating inside without reserved signs on them with no one seated at them. As we didn’t book ahead we weren’t allowed to sit there. I was so angry. We then decided to leave as our family was cold. One our way out the same male employee asked could he help, we said to him you can’t expect us to sit out there with young kids. He said ok thank you bye. Seriously not customer service at all. Extremely disappointed. We then drove to Pambula for dinner. And was well accomodated for there.
- SandysSafaris (10/5): Perfect for functions! - 26 golfers enjoyed professional and friendly service and delicious meals. The group was asked to choose from a set menu that offered a wide variety of options including the freshest local oysters and delectable desserts. Compliments to the chef and manager Alex's efficient team of bar and waitstaff.
- Lindajwil (10/5): What a View - Great well priced pub food at the Merimbula Lakeview hotel. A daily specials board offers variety and their Sunday Roast special at $15.90 is a good value choice when travelling. The staff and service was great and you can sit and look over the relaxing lake view and wharf.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - great location walking distance to everything all facilities catered for.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Too noisey for the price - There is a vent next to the front door where the noise goes straight through.
- Denis (10/5): - Great location, close to everything i.e. Shops, Restaurants, Fishing and the convenience of being a hotel to avoid breathalyser, where a few wines with an excellent restaurant menu to chose from is quite a benefit
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent location and friendly staff. Very happy with our stay. Room was comfortable for a great price
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A bit painful when drunken patrons started bashing on ours and others units and making a racket around midnight during our short stay. I screamed at them but no winners if I opened our door to confront them. Luckily our car was not tampered with but hotel security ( if any ) should move all the riff raff on. Where is the R.S.A. It is difficult to police over a long Easter weekend.
- brad (8/5): Perfect spot within walking distance to everything - Great location, close to shops and main beach, walking distance to everything you'd need in Merimbula. Minor issue was wifi but not important
- Amy (10/5): Great hotel, convenient, great price - Clean, great food in the restaurant. Very conveniently located. Walking distance to the shops and a short stroll to a lovely walk along the lake.
- emu (8/5): nice pub - close to town close to other little villiges to visit
- Jaffa (8/5): Nice hotel close to wharf & bridge - Great location opposite the wharf & near the bridge.
Planned to do some fishing on the 1 night we were there but the weather was not agreeable
Raining & blowing a gale we retreated to the warmth & foodie area instead
Still enjoyable. Good food. Good sleep.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel - It was an amazing experience. Very welcoming and had such a great time. Room was clean
- Kim (6/5): Clean basic room - Room was clean but tired and outdated although the pictures on the site seem to show otherwise. Bed mattress needed to be replaced as it was quite saggy and uncomfortable.
Access to rooms was through the beer garden and smoking area which was not ideal especially with small children.
However very close to the Main Street for shops.
- Q (2/5): Not recommended even for a night. - Noisy all night, walls do not muffle the sounds from outside, and no view because there are no windows in the room. Felt like we were in a dungeon. No staff except those who were busy working in the restaurant next door.
- Sue (8/5): - great location, comfortable
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great view of the harbour - No fault of the hotel but the bin men turned up at 5 am with their reversing siren still turned on what a racket couldnt get back to sleep again.
