Verified traveler (8/5): Interesting Inn - The room was interesting. The beds were comfortable. The owners were an amazing family. Being the 1st time at this type of lodging was a little disappointing. The description said breakfast included served 8 to 10. This ended up being a bagged breakfast with a sandwich to be microwaved in your room. We were told garbage could be brought down to the front desk. The restaurant had limited hours. Pretty hefty fees were charged for limited services.

Patricia (10/5): Great Location to stay to reach all the trails, affordable with a great home like feeling. - Hearty breakfast to go. Dinner was great, talking with guests and owner with her children gives it a quaint comfy feeling. Sitting in parlor my husband played the guitar as we relaxed. Perfect location to visit many of the parks. Locals all welcoming at Diver Down and Lusky's. Affordable drinks and dinner @ Diver Down. Just a perfect way to see the fall colors, and enjoy the Ohio River views. We hiked at Cave in the Rock, Rim Rock, Garden of the Gods. Biked at Tunnel Hill, enjoyed wine tasting at Hogg Hollow and went into Metropolis to see the SUPERMAN of Illinois. Drive across the river into Paducah for cheap gas. Perfect location to stay, plus the history of the Mansion makes it even more intriguing. Highly recommend. Just a bit more dusting and cleaning of the mirrors in the room would be recommended.

I loved our room, the beds were comfortable and we had an enjoyable dinner in the restaurant/bar downstairs. The staff was friendly and helpful and we hope to stay again. Definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a place to stay in the area.

Jane (10/5): Fall weekend trip - We really enjoyed our stay at this quaint, warm and welcoming place. The room was large and filled with antiques. We could see the river from our room. The service was excellent! We had a nice dinner one evening and a wonderful breakfast on Sunday. The sack breakfast on Saturday was perfect to take with us and start our day enjoying the beautiful fall day and National Forest. If you're coming from the city, keep in mind this is a rural area - not many gas stations or grocery stores, but if you love nature, this area can't be beat. The mansion has a great selection of wine so grab a bottle and have a picnic. The hosts will be happy to help you plan your day! Wonderful stay!!
Angie (10/5): Golconda Mansion House - Golconda Mansion House was amazing! Cool, huge old Victorian house right by the Ohio River that was beautifully decorated. Many different kinds of wine and beer. The host was extremely friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.
Tammy (10/5): It was to short but a beautiful piece of history this is and beautiful views and great hosts!! - We were there in the down time so we had no expectations. I can say there was anything I didn't like!! Beth is an amazing host!!
Jana (2/5): - This was by far the most extreme case of false advertising I’ve ever experienced. The property is a cluttered mess both inside and out. Not advertised was that four children live at this property and can be heard and seen throughout your stay. We were advised when we checked in that the kids should be quieting down around the same time as we are going to bed. The walls are so thin that in our bedroom we could hear the children talking and guests checking in and the hosts talking and people in the hallway outside the bedrooms and people coming in and out of the front door. There is no hope for a “romantic getaway“. Our room had only a tub (no shower) which was still wet when we got there and had a clump of hair in it. It appears that nothing has been updated in this house for at least 40 years. Old, grimy bathrooms. The interior of the house appeared dirty, the rugs appeared filthy and old, and they may not have been filthy but it was impossible to tell because everything is so worn. My husband and I left shortly after checking in and did not end up staying there. We did not receive a refund of our $262 that we paid to stay in a quaint historic mansion that somehow had great reviews ????

Comfortable and felt like home, plenty of fun decor to look at and I love a place with good bones and character. Amazing wine selection and a friendly host/family. Golconda is a cute little town and the location was convenient to our hiking plans for the following day

If you love old homes, and appreciate those who are working hard to keep them standing, you should visit and enjoy a nice stay. Dmitry (10/5): Worth Every Penny - We spend a night at the Riverview Mansion on 08/12/2018, heading down the road to Shawnee National Forest. The mansion itself, and all the surroundings are truly amazing. It is old enough to feel the postbellum atmosphere and has all the necessary modern appliances. It reminds me of the Dacota Building in NYC, as it was portrayed in Jack Finney's "Time and again". Some fellow travelers were reporting that there are many imperfections in the interior — come on! For such a building, the imperfections are the intangible part of an image, and I don't mind to pay for it. I especially want to express my gratitude to the management. The owners and their entire family are great, hard-working people. Hope to be your guest again.
Lisa (10/5): Will definitely be back! - This place is amazing! Beautifully decorated, charming and even a little funky! I came down from a suburb of Chicago and stayed in the Gilbert room for 3 nights on my own little mommy getaway. The room was huge, had a great view of the river and the bed was incredibly comfortable. I was the only one staying the days I was there and they still went out of their way to put out a nice continental breakfast every day. This was EXACTLY the trip I needed! Days filled with hiking on the breathtaking trails in the Shawnee National Forest and coming back here to quiet and relaxing nights! Unfortunately my stay was Mon-Thurs, so the lounge was not open, but Tony opened the door for me to show me and it is super cool! Since no one else was staying there at this time, he also let me peek into the other rooms, which were all equally amazing. I have family in AL and this is almost an exact halfway point. I'm hoping to set up a full family vacation in the future. At the very least, I will DEFINITELY be back with my boyfriend!
