- Lawrance (5/5): Wouldn’t stay there ever again! - I liked the private beach the property offers only to its guests…that’s it! The pool club on the property was vibes. The property is outdated. We had a private suite that appeared industrial. The shower was distasteful with water grime and mold around the shower head. The property is on gravel dirt road and it creates excessive dust everywhere…everyday I’m beating dust off my clothes kicks and my girlfriend complained about that a lot so it was tough to deal with. I thought the resort was inclusive and included nothing. The were bugs everywhere and some got into my room. There’s birds everywhere and they make a lot of noise especially early in the morning they fly from rooftop to rooftop and the roofs are metal tin so you hear the birds walking on the roof often. There is NO FULL LENGTH MIRROR in the room so you can’t do a fit check selfie. They also have a few bars on the property we walked into one 10 mins after their $5 margaritas special and they didn’t honor it because it was after their cutoff time but the crazy thing is, the establishment was bone dry empty. And the worker was on her phone with no patrons in there at all. She was going to up charge us for the drinks. Didnt think that was hospitable so we left. You have to drive golf carts on the entire island so that kinda beat taxis but if it rains you’re getting soaked. A block in front of the property you get a really bad odor from the sea and I’m assuming a nearby farm because it definitely smelled like pig and pasture poop for a good stretch down the road. The property is damn near at the end of the island so expect to drive the golf carts a good distance into town. The gym was sub par at best. For the price I paid I would give this resort a 4 out of 10. Oh and there are iguanas everywhere as well. 🤷🏾♂️

- Christie (10/5): Staff members friendliness and hospitality was exceptional and resort and the upkeep is beautiful. - Mahogany Bay is one of the nicer resorts on the south end of the island. The resort is clean and well maintained. From the time I arrived the front desk staff (Marcus) was amazing. Professional knowledgeable and helpful. The rooms were ready clean and cool. The resort is well maintained from pools to flowers to out door seating and front porches of the rooms. The private beach club cabanas was so secluded and intimate so worth the rental fee. You can spend all day on the secluded beach in the hip height water. Eat drink sip and sleep if you like. The food was amazing. I stayed Mother’s Day weekend and there was a Ross seafood bar. I picked my seafood, weighed it and cooked to my liking. The waitress staff very tentative. The bartenders were nice as well as the golf cart Porter (Allan). He was so nice because I didn’t rent a golf cart, be took me to and from every place I needed to go while at the resort. Oh and by the way it is a CASH FREE resort. Everything is charged to your room except a few places that’s on the resort but not operated by the resort.
- Cbryan11 (10/5): Beladia is a beautiful day and stay! - This was our first trip to Central America, to Belize and to Ambergirs Caye. We will definitely be back! The people, the culture the food were all wonderful, everyone we met here was friendly and accomodating. My husband and I stayed in the penthouse at Beladia (Beautiful Day) and it couldn’t have been more beautiful. The home is in Mahogany Bay, which is a neighborhood on the south end of the island. Everything we could have wanted was at our fingertips from luxury linens in the bedrooms, to the perfectly appointed kitchen and bathrooms. Each space is so lovely in this home, from the native hardwoods to the colors and textures chosen. It truly feels like an oasis within paradise. We loved spending evenings on the huge deck, and also enjoyed the outdoor kitchen with an amazing 20 person table! We spend lots of time splashing in the pool - not just a pool to cool off in, but large enough to really swim laps. We spent time at the Mahogany Bay pool club - especially gorgeous in the evening when their lights make it look magical - and had some great food there as well. Other favs included an incredible trip on Searius adventures to Caye Caulker - dolphins swam alongside the boat for 20 min or so and that was truly incredible! Caye Caulker is also beautiful, much less developed than Ambergis/San Pedro (from what we saw) and there we ate fresh grilled lobster on the beach from local vendors. Having Beladia as a home base was definitely the way to go for this trip. It was so nice to come home to such a beautifully well appointed space every evening after a day of exploring the island. We cannot wait to come back and will always choose Beladia to stay in if we can get in! If you choose to come to Ambergris Caye don’t forget to “pack for a purpose” -there are several resorts on the island listed as drop off locations, or (what we did) bring donations for kids and a school in need directly to Holy Cross Anglican School on the north end of the island. Find them online for a list of needed items, fill your suitcase on the way down and have room to bring back some awesome souvenirs!

- Navigate66918760839 (6/5): Quiet, Clean, and Bizarre - Recently returned from celebrating my two year anniversary with my wife at this property. San Pedro is beautiful, but the resort was ultimately underwhelming and had some lasting, bizarre, interactions with staff that won't see our return. Starting with the good, the massive (MASSIVE) grounds were well maintained. I didn't spot a speck of trash and despite the ongoing construction everywhere, there was a real effort to spray down the drive paths so they wouldn't kick up dust/dirt. The room was beautiful (stayed in whatever the second floor thing is, the inside felt like a treehouse). Room stayed nice and cool and managed to not have any interactions with mosquitoes despite being there for 7 nights. The vibe around the pool was nice and the hotel food was surprisingly good when we were too tired or lazy to drive into the city. We found a couple of baby geckos in our room, which I thought was cool and simultaneously scared my wife. Guess where that belongs depends on your perspective. The bellboys were awesome and gave the down low on activities around San Pedro, which was really nice and appreciated (similar thumbs ups to Nigel at the front desk and Miguel at the restaurant; just nice dudes that seemed to care). The bad, as a Hilton Diamond member I expected a higher level of service. In the states I generally get constant outreach by hotel staff on how my stay is going, what they can do better, etc. I've read really favorable experiences from foreign countries from other Diamond members, and there really wasn't any of that. Even asking for an upgrade (which I never expect) at check-in I was greeted with the only upgrade they provide is from the basic cottage to the room we had already paid for. It made me roll my eyes, and would urge any Diamond members to just book the basic room and save yourself a bit of cash. Some other lowlights, in bite sized form: The resort is sprawling and.. empty. Most of the restaurants/shops are not affiliated with the hotel despite being on the grounds, so not able to charge basic things like meals to your room. There's no beach *at* the hotel - you have to take a 15 minute boat ride that departs once per hour. The only other "water" is an opaque green channel that runs to the ocean. The bizarre, our last full day at the resort. The day prior we had placed a "Please Make Up Room" placard in the slot outside of the room. The opposite side of this placard says "Do Not Disturb" (side note: if you don't put the Please Make Up Room placard out, they'll still make up the room, so the process is redundant and two things serve the same purpose). Our room wasn't serviced, so we called the front desk and asked for a set of towels, a water refresh, and some toilet paper. The housekeeping supervisor knocked a little while later, noticing the "Make Up Room" placard and asked if our room had been serviced. I replied with a simple "No", took the supplies, and didn't give it another thought. Mistakes happen, stuff gets missed, who cares. Returning to the last full day at the resort, we needed a replacement key for our room after returning from a day at the beach and finding our room key did not work when we returned. As we drove to the front office we were flagged down by our housekeeper (not the supervisor). I thought maybe she was saying bye or asking if we needed anything, but no, it was to browbeat my wife and I about how she didn't make a mistake yesterday and that we had our "Do Not Disturb" up, not "Please Make Up Room". It got really uncomfortable as she became incredibly accusatory, and even went as far as to accuse my wife and I of making up a story about needing our room made up. I'm assuming she was spoken to by the supervisor and takes a lot of pride in her work, but to confront a guest and accuse them of lying didn't sit right with me and ultimately pushed me to write a review. The bizarre didn't stop there though, as when we finally arrived at the front desk to get a new room key there was some machine issue that required the front desk agent to get the Assistant Manager (Salim? Sadim? an "S" name, male). He was able to get things sorted and asked if we would need any help in coordinating travel to the airport. Yup! Thanks! That was going to be my next ask. He proceeded to ask me when the flight left the next day. I didn't have my phone with me (locked out of our room), but recalled the check-in time of our flight to be 11:00-11:30. I explained this to him, and assumed given the location, frequency, etc, that there was some general awareness of when a flight would take off after that (there are two airlines that both have tight check-in windows before departure). He kept asking when the flight actually left, and I told him somewhere between 30 minutes to an hour after the check-in close. He then became incredibly dismissive, waving me off and asking me to return when I knew the departure time of my flight. In that moment I'm standing there like "what on Earth is going on and why is this dude behaving like this? I told you when check-in was, why does it matter when my flight leaves?" I refused the wave off, told him we wanted to be at the airport at 11:00, and it was resolved. I was left sitting there like what communication gap did I have that this needed to reach this point where I'm being dismissed and need to come over the top with my dad voice with this guy? Overall, if I could run it back, I'd 100% go to the SLH property that's a bit North on San Pedro. The value wasn't there for the service we received, especially during off-peak tourism time. The disparity in staff behavior (Miguel and Nigel were great! So were the boat boys Cameron and Ram) was super strange, and I hope you all can figure that out so other guests don't have the same dampening experience from your resort. Last bits, Rock's Golf Carts deliver and are like 50% of the cost of resort golf carts. Robin's kitchen is amazing and you should eat there every day.

The pool area is lovely and the rooms are exceptional. Highly recommend the massages at the spa. The spa is pricey but they have the odd more affordable option such as $80 travellers reset for 30 minutes or 30 minutes reflexology. Although this is quite a big hotel we found it never too busy. The food was great and one evening we enjoyed our meal to the sound of live music. Easy to get in town ($10USD taxi or some people rent golf buggies) but we found ourselves enjoying the hotel so much we barely left. I wanted to highlight a few standouts of the brilliant staff. Sephenie on reception swiftly offered us a lovely upgraded room when our AC had a fault. We were really pleased with this new room and the hotel made it an easy transition. Leonardo on bar was very hospitable and his drinks were great. All the guys that work on the boat to the beach club do their job efficiently and are really friendly.

What truly makes this place special is the incredible team. Alan is simply the best—so personable, warm, and welcoming. The fact that he remembers us each time and treats us like family means so much and keeps us coming back. Lovenia at the concierge desk was absolutely stellar—she took such great care of us and made our stay feel extra special. Jamelah at the front desk was wonderful as well, always smiling and greeting us by name each day, which made us feel right at home. We also had fantastic experiences with Carmen at the restaurants and Jessica from Rum and Bean—both delivered incredible service and added to the overall experience in such a positive way. A special thank you to Marcus, a great manager who clearly leads an excellent team. It shows in every interaction. We especially appreciated the thoughtful touches and special treats for Ken’s birthday celebration—they made the trip even more memorable. This resort truly feels like a home away from home. We already can’t wait to return and hope to see all of our friends there again soon!

The hotel layout is very unique, featuring small, beautiful villas spread throughout a private complex, which gives it a very exclusive and cozy feel. The rooms inside the villas were extremely comfortable and well-designed. One of the highlights is the main building, where the restaurant and the swimming pool are located—it is truly stunning and visually beautiful. While the resort itself is not directly on the beach, they offer a seamless boat transfer to their private Beach Club. It is a gorgeous bay with crystal clear water and a very relaxing atmosphere—definitely worth the short trip! The food and service throughout my stay were very good, and the staff made sure everything was perfect. Also, the location is ideal: it’s close enough to town for convenience but far enough away to avoid all the noise and hassle. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a comfortable and stylish stay in Ambergris Caye!

- TrevorC1103 (8/5): Nice beach and pool, but isolated and in need of improvements - Different set up, but interesting. Laid out in a suburban subdivision style, isolated from the rest of the Caye. Reception has a very nice pool, bar, and restaurant. It has complimentary coffee, but that's the only free perk. I would have enjoyed a welcome drink and cool towel when we arrived. The rooms are one-half of a two-level bungalow, set out between two different streets within walking distance of reception. Our room was nice, but the TV working was hit or miss. The windows were small and lined the top of the walls. Underneath the windows were wooden slats that needed to stay closed in order to keep the A/C contained. As a result, the rooms are pretty dark. Has a screened-in patio which was nice to sit at night and play games. The roads were full of potholes, however by the end of our stay they had started to fill them all with a tractor. Lots of construction happening around the property, so I'm sure in a few years they'll have it built up more. There was a martini bar open across the street from us but was empty and did not feel very inviting. There are other stores and shops on the property to buy goods. Disappointed the sushi place was closed during our stay there. No beach at the hotel, but the boat leaves every hour to a private beach nearby. It was a good adventure to get to and was a very nice beach. We walked out a couple hundred yards with no drop off. They have food and drinks at the beach, along with towels and water toys, so really no need to bring much. Overall it was a decent stay, but felt isolated and needs some improvement to their facilities.

I have visited other places and this was the only one that was bad. Our first night we went to the restaurant at the property, it was not good and expensive. Customer service is poor, we had no TV service and asked for someone to come check it out( thinking we may be doing something wrong), well no one showed up after 2 calls. My husband spoke to the manager on duty Sandi the next day, explained what happened the day before. He assured us he would have someone at the room at 10am, that time came and went. My husband spoke to him again, he had an excuse. Someone did come after we left for the beach, the tv never worked. Called the front desk at around 7pm to order room service and it just rang and rang. We went to have lunch on Sunday and were informed that there was no lunch because they were busy for breakfast. We ate our breakfast at Victoria House or Sammy’s tasty and less expensive. Our 25th anniversary will be memorable for the wrong reasons.

Especially Vivian & Cleveland my last night there I went to the restaurant by the pool wanted a certain meal I seen someone have earlier. It was only served for lunch but Vivian went and asked Cleveland if he could still make it for me and he did. They both didn’t have to do that but I really appreciated it. I had also met Vivian the night before at the bar and she was so pleasant to speak with. She was also a great team player with her coworker and helping out where ever it was needed. Such a sweet person. Also shout out to Loveina at concierge desk she helped me book two excursions and was able to help get me in last minute. I appreciate all the staff
- tonyatene (6/5): OK Stay, But Definitely Not Worth a Return - First, I want to say that previous reviews and complaints other travelers have made are legitimate. That said, my experience wasn’t terrible—but there’s definitely room for improvement. Starting from the beginning: I arranged for the hotel taxi to pick me up from the airport ($10 each way). He arrived about 10 minutes late, even though I was told he’d be waiting with a sign. A little annoying, but not a biggie. Check-in, however, was smooth, and the standout of my stay was the young man who helped with the luggage cart and escorted me to my room. I wish I remembered his name—he was an absolute delight. The cottages are very cute, but they do have some design flaws. As others have mentioned, the windows don’t have glass panes—just screens—so you have to keep the shutters closed in order to keep the room cool. And yes, you can hear everything! I had a rowdy group behind me the first night, and while they quieted down after that, it could be a real issue depending on your neighbors. Housekeeping was probably the biggest miss for me. When I arrived, there was a dirty rag hanging in the shower, which immediately made me question how well the room had been cleaned. Also, the system for cleaning vs. delivering towels seems oddly disconnected. One evening, I told housekeeping I didn’t need a full cleaning—just fresh towels. They said they’d send someone, but no towels ever came. The next day, my room was cleaned…still no towels. At that point, I had to call to finally get some delivered. The following day when I left out I put the “Do Not Disturb” sign on my door, only to come back and find they had entered and cleaned anyway. But you guessed it - no clean towels. As for the property itself, there is still quite a bit of construction going on. It didn’t bother me too much, but if you are a daytime napper I can definitely see how frustrating it could be. Also, the paths throughout the resort are either very dusty when it’s dry or turn into clay-like mud when it rains, so bring shoes you don’t mind getting dirty. The resort is split between the Hilton side and the Airbnb side. My first night, I had dinner at the Veranda restaurant on the Hilton side. Service was slow—likely due to being understaffed—but my server was lovely. Despite the wait, the food was phenomenal. She recommended the stewed chicken, and it was absolutely delicious. Honestly, the food was the highlight of my entire stay—everything I had was excellent. There’s also a Japanese restaurant and a martini bar on the Hilton side. After dinner my first night, I stopped at the martini bar for a nightcap. The server was very short and definitely gave the impression that she didn’t want to be there. I had one drink and didn’t return. The next day, I tried the Japanese restaurant for a drink and a bite—completely different experience. I sat at the bar. The server/bartender was a delight, she made delicious cocktails and the food was very good. There is also a coffee shop that is very cute. I only had the brew coffee while I was there, so I can’t speak to the other drinks, but my fresh brewed coffee was very good. The Hilton-side pool area was a bit underwhelming—very quiet, no music, no real atmosphere. However, I discovered the poolside bar on the Airbnb side the next day, and that completely changed things. It was beautiful, had a great vibe, and the breakfast there was fantastic. I ended up going back every night for a nightcap. My bartender, Brian was funny and full of personality! That side definitely has more energy, while the Hilton side feels more family-oriented. On my second day, I took the ferry to the private beach. The beach itself is beautiful, and I rented one of the ocean beds for the day. Definitely try to catch an early ferry (10–11 AM), because lounge chairs fill up quickly and the beach beds are first come, first served. Unfortunately, service there was also very slow. Drinks took about 30 minutes, and food could take up to an hour. There was only one bartender, and everything backed up quickly. I ordered jerk chicken wings but ended up canceling after an hour when it started raining and I decided to head back. Also their system for keeping up with what was ordered is very inefficient so the poor servers had to hunt people down as we were loading the boats just to make sure we sign for our tabs. One last thing to be aware of: the sargassum. Yes, it’s as bad as other reviewers have mentioned. No, it’s not the hotel’s fault—but the smell can be overwhelming at times. I truly wasn’t prepared Overall, my stay wasn’t bad—it just needs some polishing. Once construction is complete and service improves, I could see this place being much better. I had a pleasant time, but for the price I can’t say I’d stay again. That said, I would absolutely return just for the food next time I visit the island.

Upon arrival the main building is dusty, smells and the furniture was worn. When we got to our villa the house not secured and doors couldn’t be latched/locked. There were hairballs on the floors. Our pool was dirty and the loungers were missing cushions. We had an umbrella stand but no umbrella. The decking is falling apart, not that we would have sat out there due to the smell. We lost WiFi, tv and phone for over 24 hours. There were scratches everywhere, the bedding was worn and lumpy. Our shower leaked out into the hallway and down to the first floor. The upholstery was stained throughout the house. The sink had junk in it. Our shower didn’t have a working drain. Avoid this hotel at all costs. We tried to eat off property and would not use their beach or pool if they paid us. The concierge could have cared less about guests. Save yourself a disgusting hotel and stay at Alaio. We tried to switch hotels and couldn’t find any availability elsewhere.

It seemed like a lot of miscommunication across the staff as whole... waiters not knowing the policy around the complimentary breakfast buffet for Hilton Diamond members... workers not informed that my room actually existed, etc. I still have to make sure that I wasn't billed for $70+ USD for breakfast! Service was extremely slow with everything. As a Hilton Diamond member, I did NOT feel as if I had a Diamond member experience (I mean, my room was all the way at the back of the property next to construction and near run down cottages). Also there weren't many activities to do at the resort either. My stay wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't stay here again. My room was right next to construction that was taking place. Several times when I was asked for my room number so that things could be charged to my room, the employees had never heard of my room number before and that that I may have been wrong. I had a remote to control my in-unit AC/ fan that barely worked and the battery cover was taped up because there was no actual cover. I felt like there wasn't a lot to do on the resort, so a golf cart was needed to leave and explore other things. The private beach was okay, I enjoyed the boat ride to and from the beach... but it wasn't as nice as the pictures made it look.

We were disappointed that the bicycles are gone as we loved biking the beach road each morning. But all in all, our visit was a 10 and we’ll definitely be back for our 4th visit!

Some of the rooms need TLC but the room we stayed in this time was well maintained with no issues. The bigger concern is the staff (pay attention Ops Mgr) and their lack of professionalism. First, we were booked in the wrong accommodation even after emailing a month ahead to ensure and being told that it would be take care of... More concerning are the off hand comments by one of the staff members who said something about my wife which I won't repeat here. After checking out, we stayed at Alaia and a far more elevated experience. I would love to see Mahogany compete but they seem to be content with providing a sub par experience and not addressing issues when guests bring them up. Who is running this place?

- davidkF6052KQ (8/5): Please read this if you are going to Mahogany Bay as a Hilton loyalist--it may not be what you expect from Hilton. - I don't normally write reviews when my thoughts mirror the majority of others, but I felt it was very important that people understand what they are getting with Mahogany Bay. We just returned from two nights there, followed by five nights at the Marriott (Alaia). First, the good. Staff was very friendly. We were upgraded and the room was spacious. The beach club as well as the boat ride to and from were great. Food was quite good and there are various options not associated with the hotel (like the Pool Club) which we enjoyed. Just note at the beach club that the water is very shallow (we are talking knee height), so if it is a hot day, it is a bit tough to cool off since the water is so shallow. However, here is the not-so-good. I wonder when some talk about gorgeous landscaping because the place is literally in the middle of a construction zone. There were guys using a cement mixer right outside our unit. The road that we walked to and from our unit was a mess due to the construction--instead of fixing the road, they threw stones in the "potholes" to the extent that the entire road is filled with stones, which made walking difficult. The view from the pool is of a construction crane belching out black smoke, since there is a huge amount of construction directly behind the main building in the resort. More not-so-good is the maintenance on buildings that are not that old! Our unit was fine, but when we asked for a late checkout (we had to go back four times even though the hotel was only at about 20% occupancy but finally received it), we were told that someone else was going into our room since it didn't have a maintenance issue. We spoke with someone who had to move after the first night because the tin roof leaked, and then the unit to which they were moved had the air conditioning go out. The hotel staff told us that they were expecting close to full occupancy for Christmas and New Years, so I am guessing there are going to be a lot of unhappy people. Please read the TripAdvisor reviews of all of the people who had to move rooms due to maintenance issues. Finally, although the staff was kind and well-meaning, there were some odd issues that I could only attribute to inadequate training. When we were finally allowed to have a late checkout at a time of very low occupancy, we were told that we would only be allowed one key (not two) between the normal time for checkout and our actual time. This made no sense and someone else gave us two keys. We were also "reprimanded" for taking two towels each at the pool because if we wanted two towels, everyone would want two towels at the pool. There were only six people (including us) at the pool, which eventually grew to nine. That has never happened to us at a resort before. These may be very small items, but they were certainly odd. Incidentally, it is important to realize that unlike the beach club which must have had at least 90 chairs, the pool had about 30 and that was all that could fit since it was basically a small rectangle. The reason I am writing this is that many of the people with whom we spoke were there because of the connection with Hilton. We were there because we are Hilton Diamond. Hilton really needs to bring in a tiger team to speak with local management to address training and especially maintenance. We did find out during our stay at Ambergris Caye that Mahogany Bay is not thought of very highly by many folks on the island, which could address the discrepancy between the occupancy rates of Mahogany Bay and Alaia (the Marriott on the island). Both hotels are about the same size in terms of number of rooms. As I mentioned, Mahogany Bay was running about 20% occupancy while we were there. We never saw more than a few people (like a handful) at lunch or dinner. At the fancy dining room, we saw one person eat there over a period of two days. At the Marriott (Alaia), the occupancy rate was, depending on the day, somewhere between 80% and 100%. We saw a guy using the Alaia ATM machine who came over from Mahogany Bay to try to get a room because of his maintenance issues at Mahogany Bay, but Alaia was completely sold out. We were originally planning to spend all of our nights at Mahogany Bay until we read the TripAdvisor reviews--we switched our plans to two nights at Mahogany Bay (so we could get to the beach club, which as mentioned above is very nice) and five nights at Alaia. We are glad we did.

Leonardo was excellent for breakfast service in the dining restaurant. The staff are super friendly and helpful. We moved to a bigger room day 2 and the process was seamless. The rooms are clean and spacious. Would definitely stay again.

- Paradise752515 (6/5): I do not recommend - I would NOT recommend this hotel, it is not luxury and does not feel like you are on an island. We were there for four days. I was terribly disappointed with many things at this resort. The pictures are very misleading. It feels like a construction site, there are big trucks moving in and out all the time, the roads are dusty and get muddy since it rains frequently, would you then track into your room. They really need to pave the roads or put down more gravel and have more landscaping. I did not struggle with the mosquitoes as I read in many other reviews, but my sister-in-law did and her legs looked terrible. The private beach is fine, you must make reservations early to be sure you get your appropriate time. And when we were ready to leave, the boat was too full so we got kicked off and had to wait an hour for the next one to return to our hotel, which threw off our day and other plans we had. Our third day the electricity went out in the whole resort, we could not charge our phones, do laundry, or get ready for dinner reservations (hair dryer and curling irons needed for 4 girls) the next day the water was out in the morning on our road, luckily my brother was staying on a different part of the property and still had water, so we went to his room to shower and get ready to leave for the airport. Otherwise we would have been out of luck! The outer door to our master bedroom was broken and would not close.. We called several times and it was never repaired, the last night we had to sleep with only a screen, and it really did not feel safe. Anyone could have entered our room in the night. The TV only worked sometimes, but we didn’t mind too much since we were out and about most of the day, but sometimes it is nice to relax on the couch and my son wanted to watch a football game but could not. We are Hilton diamond members and can usually trust the Hilton Curio name to represent quality, unfortunately, on this trip, we were left disappointed, and ready to go home. For the price we could have stayed at any number of oceanfront resorts, which I would highly recommend to anyone looking to travel to San Pedro. On the positive side, all of the staff members here were lovely and friendly. We really enjoyed the service we received except for maintenance.

Winding down our days at the bar has been especially nice with no pressure to drink too much and our bartender Sam is the best at balancing great service, a friendly welcome, space to enjoy the live music and sharing tips about the best things to see on the island. F&B supervisor is also a delight and has been generous with his time and attention. Food has been top notch too.
- bodenphoto (10/5): Please Don’t Skip Because It’s Not Beachfront! - Honestly we wouldn’t have booked this if we had noticed it wasn’t beachfront but then we’d have missed out on an incredible experience! Please don’t pass this up! The room was clean, comfortable, and had modern amenities you expect at this price point. Although the towels were a little worn and tattered the shower was especially relaxing! The food and bev options were impressive - Japanese, martini bar, pool side drinks and snacks. I’m sorry I don’t remember the name of the place but the food and service were memorable in the restaurant in the main building. We were lucky enough to be there for a traditional celebration which included a live local band on the patio. Gilmore, Sergio, and Ivira provided top notch, professional, and knowledgeable service! The burgers were nice but the ribs and traditional dishes shouldn’t be missed - everything we tried was delicious and served hot. On property there are some establishments run by outside vendors like the pool club. The focaccia bread and garlic shrimp appetizers were instant favs! The burgers and pizzas were equally delightful. But what really stood out was the friendly and charismatic service Kevin provided! He remembered us when we returned a second and third time and exceeded our expectations with each visit. The highlight was definitely the trip to the private beach. We went out on the first boat of the day and we were glad we did as the over water cabanas are rented in a first come first serve basis. The beach is beautiful from any seat - the lounge chairs, swings or hammocks, but that cabana provided the relaxation and beauty we were craving - like our own slice of heaven. Miguel was an awesome server bringing rounds of cold drinks and snacks. The private beach was incredible and the food and drinks outstanding but really what made Mahogany Bay a unique and superior experience was the people! From the front desk check in to the valet to the last minute stop at the gift shop (Princess and Kamora) we were met with smiling, friendly faces who genuinely enjoyed their work, remembered us throughout our stay, and raised the bar for customer service. My partner and I travel 80-85% of the year and we agree this is the best property in the Hilton franchise that we’ve ever seen and management should know it’s definitely because of the people! All of the team members should be proud of the level of service they have achieved! Thank you Mahogany Bay for a wonderful, memorable vacation!

- CrazFox (10/5): Best place South of town! - Wow! I have been to quite a few resorts in my 60+ years on earth, but this one is incredible! Boat ride to their private beach club. Included. Umbrella shaded double chaises (there or on-site pool) Included. Golf carts rides all over the property. Included. Awesome service & staff. Included. And apparently they have an all-inclusive package, which I didn't do. Loved the fact that in addition to their own eateries, they have The Farmhouse for breakfast and The Pool Club for B/L/D for those on a budget! The place is gorgeous, beautiful landscaping, very easy to learn your way around, huge pool (floats included) a sushi restaurant, plus casual and more elegant dining. I stayed in a "beach cottage" a 400 square foot studio on a canal, that was absolutely adorable, inside and out. Making the shower look like an outdoor shower is a cute touch. Pictute of Cows staring at you in the toilet, not so much. Huh? I stayed in two different cottages, same in both. How about a landscape or some seashells or even abstract art? Anyway, cow picture aside, this place is a must do and a few cottages are even for sale!

At first, we were nervous about our stay because the first villa we were put in had no hot water, the water pressure was low, and it was a space that needed to be put out of order. The staff and supervisor agreed, giving us a better villa for the rest of our stay. BIG shoutouts to the staff (Alan the Porter, bartender Malik who makes the best drinks 💕) they were all so sweet, gave great recommendations for what to do on the island and made the stay well…UnBelizeable! Definitely stop over by the Pool Club (great music and food) and Dirty Martini (a stiff pour). I cannot wait to come back again. I’d stay here again and again.

- valorieh2014 (10/5): Feels like staying with family - Mahogany Bay provided an excellent home for our first stay in Belize. Our timing was great because we stayed just before the busy season started so we had no wait for tables at the restaurant or chairs at the pool and the weather was beautiful. The property is in good condition overall but the staff is what really makes it feel like home. Alan helped with luggage and drove us around the property and to meet our snorkel tour, always with a friendly smile. Trisha at the front desk was happy to help any time we needed anything and quickly arranged for us to be moved to a new room when we discovered our water heater wasn’t working. She also helped coordinate our snorkel tour when there was a miscommunication with the tour company so we were still able to see the beautiful marine life in the barrier reef. The private beach is lovely and KenRoy busted his butt making sure everyone had everything they wanted. Miguel, Mikal and Vivian provided excellent service at the restaurant and pool bar. They decorated for Halloween even though they don’t celebrate the holiday. It was a fun, festive atmosphere with live music and decor. Yes, there are bugs but that’s what bug spray is for. All of the staff we encountered provided a warm smile and asked if we needed anything in the most genuine way possible. I would be delighted to come back!

- geocindae (10/5): Super friendly staff and food was excellent. - From the moment you enter the resort, we felt welcomed. Shout out to Alan and Lovenia B. (front desk) and all the waiters for taking care of us. We ate at the Main Restaurant several times because the food was delicious (caesar salad w/ lobster, burger, crispy fish tacos, chicken stew w/ rice and beans and potato salad, pancakes with toppings, etc). The resort is nice. Our bungalow was conveniently located so it was a short walk to the coffee shop and general store which came in handy. The private beach is a short 10-min boat ride away and tons of fun - hammocks and cabanas over the water with free kayaks, floaties, and paddle boards. Pro tip: use the green alcohol if you get bit by mosquitoes!

I booked a one bedroom cottage and was upgraded to a three bedroom when I arrived! The villa was very clean and spacious and the air worked great. - whitfies (4/5): What I wish I’d known before booking - We had such high hopes for our 7 night stay but in the end couldn’t wait to get out of there. There is so much you’re not made aware of beforehand … Firstly, this is a gigantic dusty construction site reclaiming a swamp. When I say gigantic, it is a holiday village and not at all like a hotel in any traditional sense. You will need a golf cart just to get from your room to reception. There’s just no soul or heart to the place just dusty avenues of rows of accommodation with just about no landscaping and nothing but dust. It’s also very much still under construction with all the construction workers passing through each day and heavy machinery and from the speedboat to the beach club you see the diggers digging swamp mud out to make more room for dusty accommodation a long way from anything hotel like. The biggest point really is the swamp. It’s infested with mosquitoes and biting insects and between me, my wife and son we carried about 100 insect bites between us at any one time and we are really careful layering on 50% deet which seemed to do nothing. It was the bites which got me down the most. No measures in the room to deal with them and minimal fogging of the sides of the dusty roads. One lady we saw must have had over 100 bites below the knees. When mentioned to staff they shrug and say they can’t help Mother Nature. I kind of get that point but my point is this place isn’t fit for people to come and spend their precious holiday. Someone at Hilton HQ clearly thought they could reclaim the swamp and ‘manage’ the customer complaints but it’s not like anything we have ever seen in Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Brazil, Costa Rica, Nicaragua or even Florida. This is so much worse than that. I’m now writing this from the Belize rain forest and guess what ? No bites. You’re probably wondering why I gave this 2 stars. I award a bonus star because we were staying in a lower keeping suite but kept awake from 3am by the people staying upstairs - there is ZERO soundproofing and you hear EVERY footstep. My wife complained and they upgraded us to a massive 2 bed, 2 floor house which was lovely. Bonus star awarded. We spent some time at the pool area which is so tired the decking looks like it should have been replaced 10 years ago and every rusty big nail originally holding it down now stands about a centimetre proud of the deck, ready for you to stub your toe or grind and gouge your foot. The beach club is an experience. A short speedboat ride past the swamp diggers and you get to a small beach ON A SWAMP. This was where we made the mistake of a short walk to the end of the beach and in seconds each had 6 mosquitos sticking their straws into us. On the face of it this place is ok but a cursory look reveals muddy sand in the water and a generally sad little place. Not sure what else to add other than we had breakfast which was poor and v expensive and they add service to the bill and then also seek a tip. Not good enough. In the evening it’s all dead with no one brave enough to leave their room and get eaten alive. We looked in on Dirty Martini bar and no one in there. Could not wait to get out of there and on leaving they don’t even enquire about your stay - they are clearly so bored of hearing it all before they now don’t even ask. I think this is a shocking place to have the Hilton name above the door of the place and need to both charge less and make more effort to deal with the issues and make the place a bit cheerier - have they never heard of landscaping and gardening ? Don’t be fooled by the glossy website !!!

I would like to take a moment to recognize a few individuals who made our visit especially memorable. Kimberly and Elvira were our breakfast servers most mornings at The Verandah, and they were truly outstanding. Their hospitality skills are exceptional, and they consistently went above and beyond to ensure we were well taken care of. Thank you both for making our mornings so enjoyable. Another team member who left a lasting impression was Jairo. On the day we arrived, he greeted us warmly, assisted with our luggage, and drove us to our room by golf cart. Throughout our stay, he was always friendly, stopping to chat whenever we crossed paths at the resort. We even met him in town one day, and on another occasion, I saw him playing soccer with friends—he invited me to join, which was a highlight of my trip as I’ve missed playing the sport. Thank you for that, Jairo… and remember: coconuts, two for one! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return. One suggestion for improvement would be to increase mosquito control, particularly around the pool, private beach, and the outdoor area of The Verandah. Additionally, better maintenance of the hammocks and swings at the private beach would ensure guests can fully enjoy them.

Kimberly greeted us each morning with a great smile and excellent advice and suggestions for our day. She gave us the history of the island, along with the male server, can't remember his name. He gave us local spots we should try while out in the city. HE also talked about the local foods and how they were made. Overall 5/5 from the breakfast crew each morning of our trip.

Unacceptable ! Our plates from lunch stayed there for hours after we finished… totally underwhelmed by the whole experience here and sadly have 6 more nights !
- s0mewhere0vert (4/5): Don’t do it - The Mahogany Bay Resort is visually stunning with beautiful grounds and a picturesque beach club—but travelers need to be aware of some serious downsides that affected our stay. Despite being a Hilton property, the resort is plagued by sand fleas, sun flies, and mosquitoes. While staff claims that spraying is done daily between 5–7 PM, this limited window is simply not enough, especially considering the resort is built on still brown water, which could potentially house crocodiles and serves as a breeding ground for insects. Sadly, the biting bugs weren’t just outdoors. We were bitten in our sleep, found bugs in the bed, and learned that sun flies and sand fleas come through small holes in the window screens. After reporting it, no one came to spray the room or change our bedding, and the resort offered no real solutions or preventative measures. On the upside, the staff—especially Alex—was absolutely amazing. He was the highlight of our experience and the main reason we were able to enjoy ourselves at all. The beach club is gorgeous, with clear waters, but the shuttle schedule is so limited that it didn’t allow us to fully enjoy the space. We actually spent the first half of our Belize trip deep in the jungle and didn’t need bug spray there, which says a lot. As seasoned travelers who love nature and stay in Hilton properties often, this was extremely disappointing. Unfortunately, we would not return to this resort. It’s a shame because the setting has potential, but until something serious is done about the insect issue, I can’t recommend it. Be warned: you will get bitten, and the bites are painful, swollen, and frustrating. I hope the resort takes steps to address this for future guests. Right now, I would rate this as a 2-star experience at best.

- Wieringa (9/5): Lovely rooms and cool community - We loved the rooms and are looking at purchasing a place there as well. The buildings need some work which I know will happen in September. The food was actually amazing and the Belizian meal was phenomenal! The private beach is very cool but also very shallow, I wish it had a bit more depth, but the food there and the overwater cabanas are super cool! Not beachfront but didn’t mine that much since the weather side of the island is covered in seagasm anyway. Overall we really liked it.

Our safe box was broken and they never fixed or replaced it so we couldn’t store cash or our passport. The cabana they advertise is not insight. It’s 15 mins away. And if you don’t get a reservation for a boat ride, others will beat you to the site. Extremely disappointing Honestly- this place is alright! They did nothing wrong but when you spend all this money you need peace and comfort. I didn’t feel that here

Trish was my twinner and always genuinely glad to see me and ask if I needed anything. Thank you, Emil, for your patience and kindness- you’ll be missed! I really enjoyed conversations with Jessica and her willingness to explain life on the island and the education system. Sam- thanks for not laughing at us too much and keeping a straight face most of the time while we gossiped at the bar:) Alan, you’re my hero! We had to change room immediately because the building structure is all wooden and no sound proof. We can hear walking and talking from upstairs and vice versa. We don't need much but even a good night sleep is impossible here. Also the fridge broke and leaked water everywhere, and the lagoon smells like rotten eggs around this time.
