- 721henrya (10/5): Exceptional property - We frequently stay in Choice properties. Most are OK but occasionally one disappoints. This one, however stood head and shoulders above most any other one we have stayed in. My room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. Climate control was effective and easy to use. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a little better than most.
- cokerbud (4/5): What a Disappointment - As nice and friendly as the employees are at this hotel it is difficult to leave the review I must leave. I have stayed at this property over the years, and overall have had a good experience, until this one. I found the hotel to be in disrepair, dirty, and understaffed. My room, 220, had smoking and pet odor, and a smoke detector taped up for what I assume to be to keep the detector from activating when someone smokes in the room. The pillows smelled of dirty heads from the past, dogs and smoke. The room was not clean. I did point these issues out to the staff but due to having only one employee to clean over 30 rooms nothing was done about the smell or the fire detector. Also to be fair on checkout they did discount my room a little but it did not make it cleaner or smell any better. Also beware the doors don’t close completely and returning the evening after they replaced the towels, (service of the room only available by request….apparently my request denied) the door was ajar and not secured. My colleague was in room 124 and to secure that room when leaving the customer must lift up on the door and pull closed, then Double check. The lobby entrance had standing water outside the door so when the workers who stayed there walked thru the water with muddy boots it tracked throughout the hotel and I guess nobody thought of actually cleaning it up.The exterior parking lot was not a pretty site, needless to say the hotel has peaked to say the least. The next visit to the area I will certainly stay in a neighboring town due to the lack of choices in Independence.

- Kristal (8/5): - We were disappointed to learn that the pool was closed, but the staff was genuinely considerate and kind. Rowanda and Kellie, as well as the late-night staff, all made our stay memorable. Fabulous breakfast!!!!
- cokerbud (8/5): Pleasantly Surprised - Independence is not a bustling metropolis so there weren’t many choices. Comfort Inn around the country can be hit and miss but this one is a hit. From reception to housekeeping everyone was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the air conditioner produced just short of snow. The “free” breakfast was priced correctly but no better or worse than anywhere else. I would pick this hotel again when coming to Independence.
- JDD800 (10/5): Awesome!! - Amazing Hotel was totally blown away by the staff and accomadatons. The room is large and clean and the bathroom was perfect. Breakfast is really good with lots of choices. Everything about the place was beyond expectations and highly recommend
- J3997AMjenniferh (10/5): Best hotel in town! - Clean and comfortable! Tonya and the staff at this hotel go above and beyond every time I'm in town. They are all very friendly and accommodating. Here is just one example of how amenable they are, breakfast doesn't start until 7:00 a.m. on the weekends but we were there with a large group that needed to be out of the hotel before 7:00. They were so awesome that they started breakfast early both Saturday and Sunday! I wouldn't stay anywhere else when I'm in town.
- Gizmo1531 (2/5): Read ALL the fine print. - I eventually asked the manager to cancel this reservation and she did. However we drove 5 hours to have to pack back up and find another place to stay. That was frustrating as this could have been so easy for them to be honest about what is happening at the hotel rather than hide it in the reservation 5 pages deep. The bigger problem is the lack of communication when you book a room here. Read every page of the reservation because they hide very valuable information regarding your stay that would be important to most guests. When asked for some compensation off the room because it was not what I expected the manager pulled up there site scrolled through about 5 pages of info and showed me a tiny sentence that I was supposed to see. Just be upfront with guests. Do not make your guests read all the fine print to see that what you offer on the front page as amenities are probably not available.
- 474genef (10/5): Wonderful experience - I spent 5 nights at the Independence Comfort Inn in December 2022. My room was great, very clean and spacious. Comfortable, large bed. Had a nice sized refrigerator. The two areas were I feel this property really excelled were 1- the breakfast spread, great selections of hot and cold offerings every morning and 2- exemplary customer service. Everyone I interacted w over my 6 day stay was friendly and helpful, especially Tonya, Melisa W, Melissa M and Christina. I would definitely return (in fact, I plan on it). I have stayed at other Independence properties and this one was BY FAR the best experience.

- Jperc43 (2/5): The Not so Comfort Inn - This place must have taken a sharp decline recently as the rating must be attributed to years gone by. The staff here is nice enough but the hotel is disgusting. We stayed here due to a "stay and play" athletic event in which the tournament requires participants to stay in pre selected hotels and this is the hotel we were assigned. Our room was unclean to say the least. Hair was found in multiple places, the bedding was stained and attempts were made to cover or hide the stains with a throw or "creative folds". The sofa cushions were stained as well. The hotel is under staffed - only one person on staff when we checked in - so impossible to provide any service. Pool and hot tub were close for maintenance issues. Parents from our team all experienced similar issues with their room. One parent had to move rooms due to their door not locking with our without a key and had no manual locking option. They allow pets but do not appear to do any air purification...if you are allergic to cats, do not stay here. The hotel smells from a lack of cleaning and a pet friendly policy. This sounds like a lot, but if you stay here, you will see for yourself.

- Debra (4/5): Dirty, smelly and overpriced! - Poor customer service. The front desk associate was watching TV when we arrived and seemed irritated that we interrupted her. Hotel was dirty and smelled musty throughout. Also needed repairs. Very overpriced hotel.
- mjames916 (8/5): Comfort Inn Independence, Kansas - Pros - clean hotel and rooms. Staff cleans and sanitizes. Well insulated and quiet from outside road noise. Cons - hotel seems severely understaffed. Hot tub broken. Pool very cold and needs cleaned. Front desk never there unless you ring a cowbell to get their attention (they always came quickly though). Hot breakfast not the best. No towels in room had to request. First room I was given door wouldn’t close so moved to another.

- ducksoup1959 (6/5): Some Good, Some Bad - We spent one night here in May. One thing to note is that the housekeepers and front desk seem to be the same people. When you get there there is a sign that they're doing laundry and you should ring the bell. When you ring they do come but I think they could all be more efficient and do a better job if they hired an extra person or two. It does tend to waste time when you have to make multiple trips down there like we did and wait each time for them to come after we ring the bell. Once she got there check in was okay although she did seem a little confused. When we got to the room a couple of lights had been left on and there was NO toilet paper. Went back downstairs, rang the bell and waited. Got toilet paper and went back up, only to discover that there was also NO soap. We were about to go out to eat, thought I'd wash in the downstairs bathroom. Guess what! Soap dispenser was empty. Makes you wonder about the cleanliness of their staff. I ended up washing at the restaurant. When we returned my husband waited once again after ringing the bell to ask for soap. I heard some other people saying they didn't have towels. Once we got everything, the room was nice enough and seemed clean. They did have an envelope in the room for tips and across the top had written that they wanted all 10's. I'm sorry but if you can't leave me basic necessities like toilet paper and soap, I'm not leaving you a tip or a 10. We did appreciate that they had a full breakfast again. The bacon and sausage were good. The biscuits and eggs were a bit on the hard side. The hot water had a bug in it. When I mentioned it to the woman who worked there she just took the cup. Didn't bother to check the dispenser for more bugs, clean it out or anything. Had to ring the bell to checkout. The person who came had a name tag that said housekeeper.

- angela (4/5): Never again. - Hotel looks good but room was not clean or in good condition. Ring on the night stand means it wasn’t cleaned. There was a bare greasy footprint on the tile which means it wasn’t cleaned. Gross rubber mat for the shower was seriously stained. Small debris on the carpeted floor and light bulbs missing in both lamps. No iron or ironing board in the room so had to ask for one. I was placed on the 1st floor near the stairway so I heard tromping up and down the stairs all night. I could hear the TV and conversations next door. The front desk had a cow bell to get someone from the back so I could hear that each time someone needed assistance. TV was super hard to operate and I couldn’t get channels to come up. Tried to purchase water in the vending machine and there wasn’t even a place for it to be sold. Front desk didn’t have any to offer either. Loud in-room fridge motor woke me up a couple times. Biggest complaint- the “secured” outside door that you need a room key to open was not secured. You could come in from the parking lot without a key. When your room is right next to that door, that’s not very comforting.

- Barbara (4/5): - The hotel, although fairly new, was not very clean. The sheets had stains on both beds. There was only one towel and washcloth in the room. There was no breakfast. I jnow it is covid, but some packaged pastries and fruit would have been okay.
- Chase (4/5): ainten and Cleaning are A No Go - Hotel desk clerk mentioned that the hotel was only three years old at check in. I went to my room and upon entering a wide open and unlocked door I noticed I had been given a room with a single bed. I had booked one with double beds so everyone would have room. I immediately went to the front desk and the very nice lady worked on the issue and got me to the correct room. I got to it and the door and window were wide open. We start unpacking and are in the room for 15 minutes when the phone rings. We needed to head down to the front desk to get a new room again because they checked us in under another families name. We go to the third room and it’s door is wide open too. Upon entering the room we noticed on bed had red and orange stains on the white sheets. In this room there was a notice posted bu the phone that stated no housekeeping at all and if we wanted to change towels take old ones to the front desk. The second day there I mention the sheet stains and a gentleman at the front desk offers to go get me a sheet to change it myself. I see housekeeping in the halls and ask if they can change it as we would not be back to the room for at least 5 hours. He agrees. We got back and the sheets were fixed for night two. We really wanted to swim and were disappointed there was a notice on the door that it was undergoing maintenance. I asked the front desk and they stated it was a bad pump and had been out of order for well over a year. We were very disappointed and it was costly.
- jayw433 (8/5): Best Place to Stay in Independence - They're doing a good job dealing with things during Covid. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Housekeeping did not come into room during our 4 night stay but were very good at supplying us with clean towels and emptying trash cans that we left outside our door, as well as supplying us with more coffee when requested. Coffee and teas always available in lobby and usual Comfort Inn breakfast selection available buffet style. Lobby area kept very clean. Pool closed due to Covid but fitness room is open.
- Joel (2/5): Don’t stay at the comfort inn - The room smelled, there was very little water pressure in room. Also the pool pump wasn’t working so there was no pool available and that’s why we chose to stay at that location. Unfortunately I was down there for a funeral and I had to bring my kids the overall stay was very dissatisfying
- 916maureenp (8/5): Very clean and fairly new interior - Found this to be reasonably priced, plenty of room in our King bed room. Everything seemed well maintained and clean. Front desk person was a bit disgruntled and not masked in COVID times. Bed is comfortable. Reading lights are provided, which is a nice touch. Our room had shower only with a regular shower head and an additional hand held. Plenty of water pressure. Wifi is very slow, however.
- douge208 (8/5): Be Careful - This is a nice hotel I always try to stay at a Quality brand hotel when I travel. Things are different with the craziest going on in the world today. We enjoyed the stay up till we went to the car parked in the back part of the lot near the little shed. We got in late and that was the only open place. We forget to lock the car totally our fault. The car was broken into and several things stolen. We reported it to the front desk and her response was Oh you too. Cameras don't pick up that part of the parking lot so no evidence about who did it. This was not the hotel fault and they helped as much as possible. But the fact is watch your things and lock your car.

- Kevin (6/5): Nice hotel, hot water? - Hotel was beautiful and appeared to be near brand new, however they did not have hot water for the duration of our stay. The staff was apologetic, but we were never offered a good explanation.
- 844dawns (2/5): 2020 Airattack Car Race - We checked and we were told that they had no hot water and that they hoped a plumber would be coming tomorrow. Well that didn’t happen! No manager to be found of course. So because of no hot water no breakfast either. If I ever come back I will stay at the Wyndham hotel across the street. Also left for day and came back to room not even done and maids left for the day already!
- Bob (6/5): - Only stayed 1 night and glad that was all we stayed. The rooms were somewhat clean but they did not sweep in the corners. The hot tub was nasty and did not work. Due to Covid no continental breakfast but they had brown bags to bad it was an orange and a granola bar.
- kenbR4198FQ (6/5): A nice, new Inn, but . . . - I recently spent a night at this location and found it to be a very nice, modern inn with all the latest fixtures and amenities. I could have rated this a 5 star stay expect for one thing that put a major blight on my experience. When I received my invoice the morning of departure I discovered an additional charge on my invoice that was not mentioned at check-in. I fully understand all the taxes that are typically attached to motel stays but this inn also slips in an unmentioned charge they call a “Property Improvement Plan” fee. It’s not a required tax – it’s simply an additional fee they collect for their sole benefit. It’s only $2.00 so most patrons won’t waste their time challenging it but the fact is, it’s nothing short of pricing deception that fleeces their patrons. (Multiply this by the number of rooms rented each night and you can see the tidy sum they are skimming from their customers each night.) The bottom line is you end up paying more for the room than they state up front. It’s a shame the management of such a nice, new inn resorts to pricing deception to pad their pockets. Fees necessary to maintain their inn should be included in their advertised and posted prices, not deceptively extracted from their patrons.
- Trexyn (8/5): A Great Place to Stay - This is definitely one of the best places to stay if you’re visiting Independence, KS. We stayed in a king suite for a few nights while visiting family during the holidays. Generally, the first thing you see when you walk into the lobby of a hotel will inherently set your expectations. Given the surrounding location to the hotel, I was not expecting much to be honest; however, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel design, the cleanliness of the rooms, lobby and adjacent breakfast nook. Most impressive was the respect, professionalism of the staff, and attentiveness to correct a few issues we had with housekeeping. Two of the 4 days we were there, housekeeping neglected to clean our room and restock toiletries and towels. Furthermore, when I needed to iron a couple shirts, I emptied it and added fresh clean water, and then proceeded to iron my clothes. The iron looked fairly new; however, it left permanent rust stains on one of my shirts. The hotel staff was very apologetic. They offered immediately to rectify the issues with each incident. The staff also offered to recompense a portion off the total bill for our stay. They provide a pretty good hot breakfast, too, and the coffee was not bad either! Throughout the day, the hotel offers hot tea and coffee in the lobby, and that’s great for a quick pick-me-up if you have to come by your room for anything during the day. They hotel does have a small heated pool, which was a wonderful treat, especially since the weather was so cold. They have a hot tub; however, it was not working properly and the water was extremely cold. (I would have given 5-stars if the hot tub was working. That seems like something they would have been repairing, but they weren’t.) I’ve visited other hotels whereby the front desk staff simply didn’t care and had no sense of, or understanding or ability to provide proper customer service; however, the Comfort Inn and & Suites in Independence, KS, is not that kind of place. Customer service still means something to the good folks there, and you will enjoy your stay.
- Compass75835 (8/5): Thanksgiving visit - The hotel was in better condition than the last three times we stayed. There had in the past been a series of floods that caused a lot of damage, odor, slick floors, etc. which is being repaired currently. They are not finished as the pool is still out of order, but the ice makers were working, the floors were not slick, the stairs still smells but there is not a smell in the halls any longer.
- KSU83 (10/5): Wonderful stay - We stayed one night, had 2 king rooms. The desk clerk was very helpful and nice. Rooms were excellent. Very clean, comfortable bed, nice television with many channels available. The shower was wonderful, large, clean and appeared new. Breakfast was included and had a nice variety of items; hot and cold. Relatively quiet. We would stay again.
- kimrF9402XI (4/5): Will not stay again - We are from this town, came back to visit and we will not stay here again. Front desk person didn't seem to know how to code a room key and could not print a detailed receipt i requested. I was told when I booked by phone that they (phone customer service person) could not check available points for me....I would have to have them do this when I checked in. When I checked in, the desk person told me she couldn't check, I would "have to call this number" (while pointing to a miniscule number that was upside down). The fees were 50% of the booking rate. When checking out no one ever came to the front desk, gave up and left. The room was clean, bed was very uncomfortable, water pressure in shower was not there. Breakfast was not the best, runny eggs, greasy limp bacon, sausage sitting in either grease or water, biscuits hard and very dry. But not to say others like their food this way.I Took the stairs, once, and the odor was horrendous, musty,mold smell, for being a fairly new place they had a lot of issues.
