Guest Reviews
- Carolyn (10/5): - Very good breakfast and large rooms
- Sarah (10/5): - Absolutely outstanding guest house - I was really impressed from the moment I arrived. The room was enormous and very comfortable, with everything I needed. It was the perfect temperature and almost unnervingly quiet and peaceful. The bed was very comfortable and everything was spotless. Breakfast was great, and the owners were very accommodating.
- John (8/5): - Nice property. Clean and very close to all things in central Durham. Plenty of good places to eat nearby. Breakfast was good, but fairly basic.
- Elaine (10/5): Perfect hotel for our weekend break. - Loved the hotel decor. Lovely clean room. Great staff. Great location for event at the Cathedral. Lovely cooked breakfast to order, red hot. Definitely would stay here again, we loved it.
- Lisen (10/5): - It was just for 1 night but we loved your B&B. Very warm and welcoming. Thank you!
- Derek (10/5): Brilliant location - The best location to visit the city - 5 minutes walk. The room was very good and the breakfast excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We travelled by train. We went by bus to Beamish using the local bus app. Crook Hall gardens, the Cathedral and the castle all worth visiting and in easg walking distance. We plan to visit again.
- Steven (10/5): - Spot on no complaints whatsoever everything was perfect 👍
- Jenny (10/5): - Delightful accommodation. Thanks so much
- Paul (10/5): Warm, inviting & friendly Guest House. - Once I found the hotel all was good. The postcode took me straight to it, but it's difficult to see it as it's high up to your left side on a one way street.
Parking is available opposite the hotel but the road is quite narrow & the cars are parked at around 37 degrees outside a few working men's clubs.
The Hotel will provide a token for parking, but after checking I used my disability card which meant I was parked for free the few days we stayed.
The rooms are bright & fresh, the beds are comfortable & clean as the room & hotel is.
Breakfast was served at the time we asked & was just right to start the day, thanks to the staff who did this for us.
The hotel is very neatly sited for all areas of the town & cathedral. Although the walk up the one way street isn't a pushover by any means.
Would definitely visit the hotel again, give them a try you won't be disappointed.
- Kelly (10/5): - Steps from central attractions.
- Verified traveler (10/5): City break in Durham. - Clean, comfortable bed and room; welcoming and friendly staff; lovely cooked breakfast, not overloaded and enough choice too; room had view of cathedral and castle. Thought the standard of accommodation was comparable to a good hotel.
Only a couple of minutes walk from city centre
Thanks for a lovely stay.
- Isobel (10/5): - Lovely big room, quiet location near to the station, excellent breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay. - We stayed for 1 night on the way to Newcastle. The location is great right in the centre, and we couldn't fault the room or service. Great place to stay. Thank you for the hospitality.
- Vernon (10/5): Enjoyable stay - Lovely guest house in a great location
- Edward (10/5): - Lovely centrally located guest house, friendly owners. Very nice rooms and breakfast. Fourth time I’ve stayed there. Street parking can be difficult, even with a permit provided by the owners, unless you arrive fairly early or late.
- Frank (10/5): - Charming
- Johanne (8/5): - This was our second stay at the hotel, we have family in the area and this is very convenient to their house and city. Very clean room and spotless bathroom. Breakfast was very nice and tasty. We did report a leak from the radiator as the carpet was wet when we left in Room 1, hopefully that will be sorted out . That was the only issue , we will be back again next time we’re in the UK visiting our family.
- PHILIPPA (8/5): - The property was lovely: immaculate, comfortable and in a great location.
Our arrival was marred by the fact there was noone to let us in although it was after the check in time. We waited for about 30 minutes during which time we called the property number to.no avail. Eventually a man ambled towards us and without greeting us, introducing himself or apologising let us in. It became apparent that he was the son of the owner and he didn't know where she was. Our booking details were incorrect and although I had proof he argued repeatedly about it. We had booked 2 double rooms, one each for 2 people. He insisted the booking was for one double for one person and a twin for 2 people. Then he couldn't find the key to one of the rooms. He was rude when we asked about parking. We both thought that in the morning the owner might speak to us at breakfast, perhaps apologise for what had happened. No sign of her! The breakfast was very nice although my friend was surprised to see only one mushroom on her full English plate. Abd before you ask, it wasn't a big one. All in all, a lovely place with a very peculiar attitude to customers.
- Alexander (10/5): Amazing location and view - Amazing location - very convenient to the Durham sites. Can see the castle and cathedral from the hotel. Very clean and up to date. Comfortable as well. Parking was free from 6 pm to 8 am on the street next to the hotel.
- Natalie (10/5): - What a fantastic stay! Great location, beautiful immaculate rooms and excellent service! Would definitely stay again!
- Sandun (10/5): - Outstanding!
- STEVEN (10/5): - Great view from our room, very short walk to everything we wanted to see and do. Breakfast was fabulous. The staff was accommodating and very helpful.
Highly recommend the property to all.
- katherine (10/5): - It was like a 5* hotel
- jill (10/5): Perfect location for a trip to Durham - Castle View is a very unique property within 5 minutes walk of the centre of Durham and in a quiet setting. Our bedroom was extremely comfortable and well equipped and we had a lovely view of the Cathedral as well as the Castle. We were able to get in early to our room which was unexpected and really helpful and able to leave our bags for a few hours after we checked out.
Breakfast had to be ordered by 9pm the night before but there were plenty of options and was plentiful.
Both Anne and Zara were very friendly and very helpful.
We couldn't have booked a better place for our stay.
- Nicholas (10/5): - Great location just 2 mins into the sites of Durham. Room was comfortable and spacious and owner was really helpful. Will stay again!
- Edward (10/5): - Lovely guest house in central Durham. Big comfortable room, nice cooked breakfast, friendly owners. Happily allowed me to check in early. No negatives.
- Terence (8/5): - Well preserved old building ; spacious very comfortable bedrooms (en suite); elegant relaxing breakfast room with tasty breakfast options. Parking could be an issue.
- stephen (8/5): - Nice hotel. Rooms nice but they should have had the heat on as they felt slightly damp. Otherwise pleasant and good breakfast
- Susan (10/5): - Anne, the proprietor, was kind and helpful. We had a great stay.
- Steve (10/5): - A
- Mark (10/5): Great place to stay in Durham. - A super place. Great location. Accommodating hosts. Wonderful rooms and service. And a superb breakfast.
- Mark (10/5): Great B&B in Durham. - A superb B and B. Perfect location. Beautiful rooms. Great service.
- Mark (8/5): Lovely Guest House - Lovely Guest House, comfortable and clean, very close to city. Only drawback - parking is in main one-way street, chargeable and not too easy to drive to.
- Manuel (10/5): Great Place to Stay - Very impressed with the Castle View Guest House. Well appointed establishment and big comfortable room. Only 5 mins walking distance to City Centre amenities. The breakfast was a very nice typical Full English but other choices available too. Only drawback is the parking as you have to use street parking pay meters. Overall well impressed and will definitely stay again perhaps in the warmer months so that we could enjoy the city sight seeing better.
- Duncan (10/5): - Lovely b&b great location
- Ian (10/5): - Great location in centre of City.
Room was immaculate and well appointed.
- John (10/5): - Lovely place, very clean, great staff, lovely breakfast. One of the best places I've stayed
- Ewan (10/5): Perfect Location! - The Castle View Guest House is perfectly located in the centre of Durham, with all cultural sights within a 10 minute stroll. Anne was extremely friendly and made us feel incredibly welcome! The breakfast was delicious as well!
- Lizz (10/5): - Excellent guest house in immaculate condition. Lovely big room with very comfy bed
- Verified traveler (10/5): - High quality, comfy, breakfast and pretty garden. Walkable
- Nigel (10/5): - A beautiful room and bather in immaculate condition
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent position, and nicely furnished. We had trouble communicating with them, emails and voicemails not answered, and the proprietor was on holiday.
- neville (10/5): Short overnight stay at Castle View Guest house - Very nice place, beautiful rooms, great view to Durham Castle, great breakfast, thoroughly recommend
- MathTeacher (10/5): - Very close to downtown. Parking right in front of the house. wonderful English breakfast and very friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The Castle view is well located and the breakfast was terrific. Location is perfect. The mattress tilted to one side which made sleeping a little difficult. This is a lovely old building and the tilting mattress may have been do to the floor tilting. The bed needed to be propped up on one side. The bathroom and bedroom where spacious.
- Lori D. (10/5): It really does have a Castle View! - Wonderfully relaxing setting. Very good breakfast. An easy walk to the University, Castle, and Cathedral. Really beautiful private garden for guest use.
- Visitor (6/5): - When we arrived there was no one there to let us in! Called and no answer. Had to go to a pub across the street and owner contacted the property owner and was told he would be there soon. Waited in excess of 1 hour for him to show up! No apology ... no help with luggage and quite aloof ! Room was comfortable... breakfast was good and the woman who prepares and serves was lovely!!!! She made up for the arrival problem. We had a street view on 3rd floor. Every night woke up to loud street action and singing from pub people. 2AM and 4AM! Location is good for getting around. And yes it does have a castle view.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The B&B has a welcoming atmosphere, and the rooms are spacious and have a modern feel. Freshly prepared breakfast options with excellent bread and other ingredients. The staff was friendly and the location is great. I'll definitely stay here again when I have a next visit to Durham.
- Norman (8/5): - Very good , though it is unfortunate that tha car raking is difficult.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Bags were begrudgingly carried to our second floor room by our non-welcoming host. Breakfast lady compensated by kindly offering to bring them down and store them.
- valerie (8/5): - Short walk to station, very welcoming, would return, luxurious bathroom, unfortunatley main light didn't work but may have beentming, plenty of lamps to compensate.
- Phil (10/5): Town centre stay - Very convenient for castle, cathedral, shopping and university sites..No on site parking ,but nearby street parking fine . Very comfortable room, clean and quiet. Nice welcome from owner and staff. Will return.
- Sally (10/5): Lovely spot in a beautiful town. - Quiet cheerful room with a comfy armchair and a view of the sky. This was a very welcome respite in a busy journey. It’s a bit difficult to find though as it is above the main level of the street and numbered differently. I had a time finding it. The secret is that it is right next to St Margaret’s church and very convenient to the old city, just out of the traffic. When you see St Margaret’s, climb the stairs.
