Guest Reviews
- Lester (10/5): A most enjoyable 10 days, many thanks 👍 - Great location, very friendly staff, great food Nothing
- Ian S (6/5): Great location, needs a facelift! - Most of the interior is showing it's age, in need of a reurb.
- Jack (7/5): -
- Leticia (9/5): - The location was absolutely amazing. Staff were so lovely and friendly. Will to help wherever they could. There hotel is definitely on the older side however this just added to tge amazing experience we had here.
- Bennie (2/5): -
- Kimberley (7/5): Above average - Owner excellent and attentive Bathrooms too small
- Aaron (7/5): Great value and location. - The location is excellent. It has easy access to Akakura Onsen and Kanko, and is the first stop on the shuttle to the other resorts, so you'll always get a spot. You get pretty good value compared to the other accommodations in the area and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
- Camille (7/5): - Great location right near the lift. Very helpful family owners who did pick up and drop off at the train station. Large comfortable room Shared bathroom is not as clean as expected with mold and uneven shower stream
- Melissa (9/5): Friendly family run accommodation. Great room size for Japan. - Great location, spacious room. Microwave downstairs to heat up meals. Walking distance to convenience stores and restaurants. Only a few ks to larger shop and chemist.. Hot water was not hot after about 5pm. Have an early shower after snowboarding, or use the Onsen onsite. No deal breaker though.
- Lissa (8/5): - We had a great 4 night stay at Akakura Wakui!
- Christopher (8/5): Great location, we will be back. - Great location, very helpful staff. Restaurant meal is excellent, don’t miss this. The hotel is well kept and organised. The onsen was ok, it’s older and probably needs a bit of work, but we still used it. It’s very hot and great after a day on the snow.
- Edwin (9/5): -
- Richard (10/5): Perfect hotel for a skiing holiday. - Lovely hotel right next to one of the lifts. Daisuke was super helpful. He picked up from the train station & dropped us back when we left. The hotel lobby has plenty of comfortable sofas with an amazing foot & calf massager which was invaluable at the end of a day’s skiing. Discount vouchers for lift passes are provided. The rooms are small like most Japanese hotels but the beds were very comfortable. There’s a ski storage & drying room in the basement along with the onsen & laundry. Breakfast was varied & plentiful - cereal, eggs, bacon, bread, fruit + more traditional Japanese fare. It’s not a 5 star hotel but it’s perfect for a skiing holiday. The walls between the rooms are very thin but not a problem as long as your neighbours aren’t noisy.
- Paul (9/5): great spot. Excellent breakfast and very handy - great spot. Excellent breakfast and very handy.
- Lukas (10/5): -
- Cameron (10/5): -
- Peurala (8/5): Affordable stay in a good location - Perfect location. Having onsen is a must and convenient. Friendly staff and the whole atmosphere was quiet and nice. Affordable as well. Since we did not pre-book breakfast, it was a small surprise that some days breakfast was not available. It was communicated beforehand. Drying facilities were ok, but boot were better dried in room.
- Matthew (10/5): Great hotel that made the trip better - Location was great, staff where excellent and the cost was reasonable
- Bernd (10/5): -
- Ava (8/5): We had a great stay at Wakui hotel would 100% go back. The trouble they saved us by picking us up from Myoko kogen stati - Amazing location, breakfast was good value for money and the staff are amazing, so accomodating and the service they provide is 10/10 with providing transport too and from Myoko kogen station Nothing in particular. The water in the shower wasn’t very hot but it’s not a dealbreaker as the rest of the facilities are good.
- Amelia (10/5): Feels like home - I have stayed here a few times and I just love the family traditional hotel..its clean its neat it is right in town and anything you need they will help with. This is my go to hotel at Akakura. Nothing! Its older and traditional but thats the town..
- kerry (9/5): We stayed in a Japanese-style room close to the Sky lifts and the location was excellent — super convenient for getting - Great location was able to walk short distance to the ski lifts
- Caitlin (9/5): - Loved the fact that this was a traditional, Japanese family run hotel. It felt cozy and was very quiet during both the day and night. Very convenient location write next to Akakura Onsen ski lift, and only 15-30 minute drive to other surrounding ski mountains which gave us heaps of flexibility!
- satosi (6/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Great family oriented service, nothing was an issue, close to everything, I’d stay here again. - Great location Nothing
- Gillian (7/5): -
- YUTO (9/5): - 温泉は泉質も良くとても素晴らしいです。 これはホテル側の問題では無いかもしれませんが、サイト上では朝食込みの値段と誤解するかのような表記がされているので、朝食が別料金であることを強調してほしいです。
- Abdullah (10/5): -
- Anita (10/5): Wonderful hosts with a rich local history - The homely feel of the hotel, the rich family history, studying at a local family run hotel and the personal interactions and care of the owners Mr and Mrs Wakui were all fantastic.
The hotel location is excellent, with Akakura Onsen access just behind the hotel and the Akakura Kanko sorry Dottie busy ride right outside.
I loved everything about our stay and will definitely return. We loved everything and highly recommend Akakura Wakui.
- Desney (8/5): - The hotel staff were extremely welcoming, helpful and accomodating.
- Tony (10/5): Staff were super friendly!! Will definitely be staying here again - Great location, very close to the ski field and the main town!! N/A
- Benjamin (10/5): Great - Great location - near ski in ski out for Akakura Onsen and easy walking access to the restaurants in the main streets. Good buffet breakfast. We were fortunate this stay to have a room on the top floor with an amazing view - of the ski runs, nearby mountains and the Sea of Japan. The Wakui family are lovely, and it’s great to see a connection with Myoko extending back generations.
- Nicholas (9/5): -
- Winston (10/5): Immaculate staff and close proximity to ski lifts. - 1. Extremely near to ski lift.
2. Keiseki dinner was nice and healthy.
3. Mr Wakui was able to pick us from Myokokogen station on day of check in and send us back on day of check out.
4. Helped me out when my son was injured during the trip.
5. Private toilet. Nil. But some people may find the place a little dated. I like the rustic feel of the whole place, which reminds me of a traditional Japanese lodging.
- Holm (10/5): We loved it and felt right at home - We loved our stay at Wakui. The owner family is really nice and they made us feel right at home.
Where they really won it is helping my son get his batteries for his Lego train refreshed. Just a nice and caring family. Its a dated place, but with its own charm. They might want to consider renovating the onsen at some point
- Florian (10/5): - Great family run hotel with true Japanese hospitality that takes care of customers, also snow lift just few mins walk! Great stay! None
- Justin (8/5): -
- Lillian (10/5): Kind and helpful hosts - The owners were so amazing and caring! Would definitely come back because of them.
- Jason (8/5): It was a nice stay and i will come back again when i come back to Akakura Onsen. - Daisuke-san, his wife, and sons were friendly and helpful. There are discounted tickets at the reception. The in-house onsen was also a plus point after a long day of riding. The location is slightly uphill of the main street just a couple of minutes walk and it is just in front of the Kumado lifts. The wifi can be spotty at times, and the connection can be slow during some other times. I think this can be better improved. I did not get the breakfast there, but chatting with the other guests, it seems to be a buffet breakfast.
- Pontus (10/5): Toppen - Super mysigt, Och mycket närma liften.
Bra frukost och mycket trevlig personal . Inget
- Josephine (7/5): -
- Jannie HT (9/5): - We like it very close to the chair lift of the akakura onsen ski area, ski storage and dry room are provided, breakfast is just right to kick start the ski day. The room is good size and confortable, and has private bathroom. The hotel is run by the family and they make us feel at home. The onsen is best as it is on site, best thing after a day long ski.
- Fiona (7/5): -
- Pascale (10/5): -
- simon (4/5): - Staff were friendly and location is excellent. The bed was so uncomfortable and the onsen dirty. bed and onsen
- mizutani (5/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Amazing location for skiing, very comfortable hotel with lovely staff - Owner Daisuke was very welcoming and helpful - picked us up and dropped us off at the train station, helped with ski rental and lift passes.
Nice onsen in the hotel.
Amazing location - walk to chair lift and town
- Emma (10/5): - Clean and warm rooms with great hotel facilities, amazing hospitality.
- Kristy (8/5): Very good -
- David (8/5): Very good - Conveniently located with just a two-minute walk to the Akakura Onsen Kumado lift. Perfect!
The breakfast was Japanese-style and delicious. Great value and kind staff!
- Paul (7/5): Good -
- Catherine (7/5): Staff were lovely & friendly. - Location A bit old. Would’ve been nice to have an outdoor onsen.
- Jd (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the location, On site onsen and the breakfast. We also loved that is was family owned and operated. It had such a local and authentic touch.
- Jesse (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (8/5): Very good -
- Pauline (6/5): Pleasant -
- Alana (10/5): We’ll be back! - Exceptional location and service. Facilities were good considering the price, and Daisuke kindly picked us up and dropped us off at the train station which was so handy. Well and truly met expectations (and more). Wouldn’t hesitate to come back!
- Carmel (9/5): Wonderful - Breakfast was delicious. Staff were wonderful. Location was great.
- Nick (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Fiona (10/5): The perfect stay in Akakura Onsen - Wonderful stay at this traditional hotel . The best location , outstanding staff and great rooms . We will return
- David (10/5): Great place to stay, highly recommend to all - Awesome location
- Erica (7/5): Comfortable and accessible to skiing and restaurants. Owned and run family business. - I liked the location of the Hotel. It was comfortable and clean with free access to an Onsen located in the building every day. I especially liked the fact that this was a family owned and managed hotel. The owners are friendly kind and helpful.
You can walk to a lift which is an excellent area for beginners. You can also ski across to the other ski resort from Akakura ski area to Akakura Kanko ski resort area. There is a stop outside to the free shuttle bus. The room was clean but a bit dated. Otherwise not much more to dislike. I would like a hand rail to walk up and down the stairs to the basement where the skis boots and boards are stored.
- Liz (9/5): Comfortable and clean, well located with excellent food. - Food (dinner and breakfast) was fantastic genuine Japanese fare. Location right next to ski lift also excellent, as was having Onsen for relaxation post skiing. Daisuke and Mari very helpful. The decor is a little dated and in some spots shabby but it was still very comfortable and the service etc made up for it.
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely family run hotel. Nice onsen, breakfast and pick/drop off at train station. Will definitely be back. Thanks. Nothing
- Dean (9/5): Amazing stay - Location is perfect right next to the lifts, hotel picked me up on check in day busses arrive at the hotel to take across to kanko wonderful place to stay, onsen is very traditional and ski room is spacious
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bryan (6/5): Pleasant - The hotel is next to the ski lift. There is a ski storage room where you can leave your gear overnight. Hotel is within walking distance to restaurants and a convenient store. My room had a great view of the mountains. The owner of the hotel offered shuttle service to the train station at no additional charge. My room was very big. The hotel is old. There was a smell in the hallways.
- Justin (7/5): Good - Staff and size of Japanese room The breakfast could be better
- Brynn (5/5): Great location in Myoko, however property is in need of a good renovation. Dry room is extremely tiny, doesn’t fit every - Location of the property was in a great spot. Size of the dry room is tiny, not enough room for everyone’s gear.
Onsen isn’t clean with a bad smell.
- Amanda (8/5): Very good -
- Bianca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heidi (9/5): Great hotel in a magical village! - Great hotel run by a lovely friendly and helpful family. We loved the location and the breakfast was super tasty!! Nothing! Only that we couldn’t stay longer!
- Stephen (10/5): Daisuke and family are awesome as with previous stays, super helpful - Friendly Family run
Close to everything Nothing
- Kevin (10/5): Perfect location close to the Snow lift and field. Cosy Hotel for your stay in Akakura / Myoko - Perfect location close to the Snow lift and field. Cosy Hotel for your stay in Akakura / Myoko
Staff are so welcoming and helpful
- Pic (10/5): wonderful family run hotel, great location, exceeded expectations. - We loved staying at this hotel, it far exceeded our expectations. The family running it were so friendly, helpful and fun. The photos don't do the mountain-view room and breakfast room justice as the view was lovely. The onsen was great. Good value for money.
- Jason (9/5): Superb -
- Lukasik (8/5): Very good -
- Chang (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (8/5): Perfect location, great family run lodge. - Location to the ski lift was perfect - literally ski on and ski out. Our room had private shower and loo which was great and the view was superb. The size of the room for the 3 of us was good - had a separate seating area. The staff were amazing and so helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Needs a little work done on it to freshen it up and would have liked more western options for breakfast. We couldn’t get any wifi in our room.
- Woraluck (9/5): Great time for ski, the owner and staff are very helpful. - Staff . Location WiFi
- Robin (9/5): Superb -
- Steven (8/5): Very good -
- Olivia (8/5): Fabulous time, great location and easy access to everything! - Location, location, location !!! Staff were very friendly and helpful! Onsen needs a good clean!
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Recommend staying here. Had everything we needed and great access to the snow. - Daisuke is great! He picked us up from the train station when we arrived and dropped us back when we left. He’s super friendly and helpful! It’s a great place to stay and good value for money
- He (10/5): If I visit this town again, this hotel will definitely be my top choice. - The hotel may not be a new building, but it is very cozy and welcoming. For skiing & snowboarding, there is a dedicated dry room and a storage room for equipment, conveniently located right next to the hot spring bath, which is the perfect setup for relieving fatigue after snow. Both breakfast and dinner are excellent, with high-quality food. The hotel seems to be family-run, and all the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, providing me with a very comfortable stay.
- Daniel (7/5): Good -
- Fabio (10/5): A fantastic, family-friendly hotel with a perfect location, exceptional hospitality, and warm suppor - The hotel is in a fantastic location, very close to the slopes, making it extremely convenient for skiing. It’s also just a short walk to the main street, where all the restaurants and bars are located. Additionally, it’s very easy to reach from the train station, and I really appreciated the owner’s support with transportation arrangements.
This was a family trip for us, and they were incredibly accommodating of the fact that we had a little kid. The warmth with which they welcomed us and the baby was truly exceptional—something we haven’t experienced elsewhere. I really, really appreciated the support and care they provided from this perspective, which made our stay even more special. A wonderful place for a family getaway!
- Christopher (9/5): We could walk out onto the ski mountain. Everything very close and wonderful hotel. - We had a wonderful stay here. We could walk out onto Akankura Onsen ski mountain and everything was very close within walking distance. We did not have a car so we did a short walk or took the town shuttle bus. The onsen at the property was amazing after a day of snowboarding. The room was very big and spacious traditional Japanese style room. It is a family run hotel Daiske San and his family were very nice and accomodating. We would definately recommend staying here and would stay here again. There was nothing we didnt like.
- Emmanuel (9/5): great stay - would definitely come again - Great family run ryokan. Everyone friendly and helpful and the breakfast and dinner were excellent. Would stay here again. Lift is right behind hotel and the onsen was hot. wifi was slow
- Gabriel (10/5): The staff was very generous and kind during our stay. - Close to the mountain
- Finley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samad (10/5): Exceptional - Super
- Sam (9/5): A great easy to stay location with super helpful staff. - The Onsen wasn’t very inviting but there are plenty of other options in town.
- Nii (10/5): Was a great experience staying here. So conveniently located to the Akaura-onsen Kumado ski lifts! - Really enjoyed the recent stay at Wakui Hotel. Daisuke and his family and staff were exceptional is every aspect! I would recommend this hotel to all wishing to stay in Myoko Akaura-onsen area. Onsen area below located in the hotel basement could use some sprucing up. Apart from that, the hotel was comfortable and cozy.
- Leonardo (10/5): Exceptional -
