Guest Reviews
- Sheryl (5/5): This is a historic hotel that is interesting but pretty uncomfortable. It’s good for one night if you have a special eve - It was a historic property furnished with appropriate gold rush era furniture, so we were surrounded by interesting objects. The staff members were amazing and worked hard to provide a great experience. Breakfast was delicious! They recreated life of the times by setting out games in the parlor for entertainment. Fun! The town itself is so-so, mostly a bunch of gift shops surrounded by bakeries. So it was kind of interesting but very tiny. The bed in our room (#10) was extremely tall. I don’t know why any hotel would do this. We almost had to leave because I could not get onto the bed. I am 5’3” tall, and the bed came up to my belly button. Fortunately, we found a small wooden step in the tiny closet
and by putting my own yoga step on top of it, I was able to make my way up. It was extremely awkward. There was basically no space for us in that room. No room for suitcases, one rickety chair that we had to use to hold a suitcase, and only a little room in the bathroom. We nearly cut our stay short because we were so uncomfortable.
The pillows were atrocious—hard and flat.
Anyone thinking of staying here should be aware that there are lots of stairs. And rumor has it that it is haunted. Diary entries from others (book in the dresser) indicate that some people felt the haunting. We did not.

- Roberta (10/5): Great historic bed and breakfast hotel - It was quaint, cozy and clean. They have tons of games set out in the parlor/dining room and we had fun paying cribbage with another guest. There are no TVs in the rooms so guests are encouraged to enjoy their time spent in the bed and belreakfast hotel. The homemade breakfast in the morning was fabulous! The staff made every guest feel special as they served us. It's in the center of town so was easy to walk to a number of restaurants for dinner. We loved everything about our stay
- April (10/5): Perfect weekend getaway at a fantastic hotel. - The history, unique charm, good books and games, friendly staff. Nothing.
- Leo (10/5): -
- Giles (2/5): - Town had no water so not the hotels fault but with no water and no breakfast they could only offer me $27 off the $147 bill. Also no restaurants to eat at so overall bad experience

- Inna (9/5): It was very pleasant stay and I will recommend this place for people who are looking for a quiet sta - The staff was very nice and friendly. The hotel had very specific vibe of 50th-60th. The room was clean. The outside patio was perfect for chatting over morning coffee. The breakfast was excellent (2 courses) and served to every guest! In the hotel' s lounge the coffee, hotel water and hot cider were served till 9pm. The lounge is very appropriate for chatting, reading or playing board and tabletop games. The rooms sizes: it is in an old building, so everything is very small.
- Janice (9/5): We’ll be back! - Vintage charm. Yummy breakfasts. Great location. Lots of activities. Secrets drawer society (IYKYK).
- Dane (10/5): -

The old home feels like you’re staying at grandmothers house from years ago - very quaint but extremely clean There was no blow dryer in the room - but they supplied us one when we asked
- Janelle (10/5): Rejuvenating - The atmosphere and ambiance was stunning and transported me back in time. Breakfast was beautiful and delicious and fresh!!! Cleanliness was perfection and staff were beyond hospitable and attentive. Love the history of the hotel and the peaceful location.

- Robert (9/5): -
- Pamela (9/5): -
- Ulises (10/5): I felt like i was visiting my grandparents - It’s such a gem! A time machine to the earlier years of the US. I guess no tv? But i think that would defeat the point of this hotel.
- Darlington (8/5): Great position in quaint Hotel.. - Breakfast good in a very quaint hotel in a central location, ideal really. Room somewhat small but it is in a very old building circa 1870 so couldn't expect modern dimensions.
- Jack (8/5): - Location
- Charles (8/5): -
- Rafael (10/5): One of our best vacation yet in Julian solely due to how amazing this hotel was!! - It was the perfect vacation!! Everything was amazing from the room to the breakfast in their old fashion parlor. Nothing. Everything was perfect !

- Edward (10/5): Enjoyable, historic hotel in downtown Julian, California. - The staff were kind and the hotel itself was gorgeous. I liked everything about the hotel.
- Sharon (10/5): Unique Historical Hotel, well located, very clean and great 24 hours service. Highly recommend! - Historical and unique hotel, very clean, neat and special. The breakfast is delicious & healthy. Hotel located well next to all the stores and restaurants. All the receptions are friendly, professional, and letting you feel home always! Room are with full privacy, clean and comfortable. N/A
- Chaddock (10/5): - You go here to unplug. Enjoy the town at its sleepy best after the torurists depart. Play a board game or read before bed. Have a nice breakfast. Go on a weekday and the price is very competitive for what you get.
- Dustin (10/5): Delightful bed and breakfast in a charming and scenic mountain town. - The property is located right along the main street in Julian, which is a quaint little mountain town surrounded by farmland. Waking up there is so refreshing. A great getaway from the hustle and bustle of Southern California. There’s a courtyard in the back and a nice lobby and parlor for sitting, relaxing and playing games. Breakfast is served daily and tea, coffee and cider are placed in the parlor at night. When staying don’t think of it as a traditional hotel experience where you are isolated in your room. Think of it more as being a guest in someone’s house, and you’ll have a wonderful time. There’s no television in the room and the rooms are small, but it encourages people to come out of their rooms and socialize in the parlor, read and play games. A welcome respite from the drone of screens clamoring for your attention. You can also tell the staff/owners are very proud of their establishment and want to serve you. There’s no parking lot, but finding street parking wasn’t a problem. You also have to get buzzed into the front door before you get your key, so if someone other than staff lets you in you might be standing there confused for a while as will the staff.
- Cynthia (10/5): Anniversary Getaway - Very charming and cozy. It was exactly what I was looking for. There wasn't anything I didn't like.
- Robert (10/5): Anything and everything anyone would need is right there. - Breakfast was excellent!!.. Next time? I would want to stay in a room that has a fireplace. Loved the Nostalgia. N/A. Everything was great!!!
- Juan (8/5): -
- Jeenifer (10/5): Amazingly transformation it was like walking to a different time period where live seem more simple ! - What I loved the most about the property it was the way they kept the historical aspects of hotel . None
- Michael (10/5): Staff was extremely courteous and welcoming - Clean
Comfortable
Perfect location
- Leah (10/5): -
- Warren (9/5): -
- Janell (9/5): Great property - Truthfully was a great location in town . My only complaint was the bed was awful. If you prefer a hard bed it’s fine but I tossed all night trying to get comfortable.
- Arthur (8/5): I'd do it again - Honeymoond cottage was perfect!!
Staff was super. Thank you so much. No eggs for breakfast.
- Layla (10/5): Fantastic, comfortable, adorable - The staff was great, the room was so cute (although a little small). They were welcoming, it was peaceful and quiet, and the breakfast was phenomenal. They even went above and beyond to make us comfortable and have a good time. Nothing. Everything was so amazing.
- Lin (9/5): - staff, place, location, decor, breakfast, AC was noisy as it cycled on and off at night

- Keith & Connie (8/5): Delightful! - Excellent staff .. friendly and professional. Ambiance is accurate to the gold rush period.
Excellent quality .. 2 course served breakfast in dining room. Awesome coffee. Pillows were run of the mill, not very comforting. Could use more shelving in bathroom
Insufficient outlets.

- Judith Yaross (8/5): Classic B&B in a historic hotel. - The hotel is a classic B&B, with a fabulous served breakfast of healthy foods, gracious hosts who offer help and advice, and a big lounge area that fosters interaction among guests. The rooms are charming, though very small, and the property has a brilliant location on the historic main street. The library in the dining room has an interesting collection of books to read there or take to your room. The evening coffee-tea, and cider hours from 5-9 with games available create a pleasant atmosphere after the town activity has died down. Good hot water and nice bathtub. The history of the building, first established as a hotel by a pioneering African-American couple, is a plus. Rooms are quite small with little room to move around and (as you might expect of a historic property) few convenient electrical outlets. A person on the inside of the bed might have difficulty moving in and out. There’s no tv—or off-street parking, which is more of a problem, considering the crowds when we arrived on Sunday afternoon.
- Richard (10/5): Relaxing in Julian - Breakfast ,location, comfort, friendliness of staff Nothing
- Jahzeel Villalpando (10/5): -
- Jovanna (10/5): Warm, cozy, vintage, charming hotel. Will definitely be back. - The gold rush is such a beautiful, vintage, cozy hotel. I cannot wait to visit it again. The rooms are small but comfortable, the lobby is beautiful, they have a game room, books, puzzles, staff is the friendliest i’ve ever encountered in any hotel, they genuinely make you feel like a special guest. They offer coffee, tea, hot chocolate and delicious breakfast. It is also very clean, bathroom towels are super soft, the location is right in the center of main street and super close to the Julian cafe and bakery. I enjoyed everything, only downside, but it’s not their fault, that it’s street parking only so I had to drive around until someone left.
- Darlene (2/5): -
- Karina (10/5): -
- Guadalupe (8/5): - It was close to all the stores. The staff was very friendly. The room was a little too small, no TV in the room.
- Mary (10/5): -
- Samuel (8/5): - Great ambience and friendly staff
- gordon (10/5): -
- Marilyn (7/5): Nice for one night stay. - Wonderful location. Lovely staff! Room was very small. Hard to get out of bed.
- Alicja (10/5): Perfect cozy fall getaway, if you want to feel like you're in a Hallmark movie and enjoy the history - Such a cozy vibe! The staff were all excellent, especially Valerie who greeted us. The room is small but comfortable, nice comfy bed (although set very high so had to climb up haha), bathroom was a great size and very comfortable. Breakfast is delicious and they are so accommodating to dietary restrictions. Particularly enjoyed hanging out in the parlor in the evenings with tea and hot cider and some boardgames - since the town shuts down early and the rooms are so small they are only good for sleeping in, it was great to have that place to hang out. Also the back garden area was nice for a morning coffee. Excellent location. Street parking only - thankfully wasn't a big issue for us, but with the town being so crowded on Saturday and Sunday it might be frustrating to find parking. Town does get overrun with tourists so be prepared, long wait times for pie and lunch and dinner unless you have a reservation and the hotel is super helpful with providing menus or recommendations. Wifi sometimes cuts out, shouldn't be a big issue for most but if you're streaming a movie it takes a while to buffer.
- Jared (10/5): -
- Graff (10/5): - Everything - perfect for a quiet get away. So quiet at night, wake up every morning so refreshed. The staff is the BEST
- Alessandro (8/5): Very good. - Atmosphere, breakfast, location, cleanliness, staff. Uncomfortable bed.
- Manfred (10/5): -
- Patricia (8/5): Was a pleasant stay generally. - Location, common areas, staff friendliness, breakfast,, price I needed more blankets. Was cold and I don’t like sleeping with heater on.
- Debbie (9/5): Wonderful experience - would definitely stay here again. - Travelled with my adult daughters and we loved the hotel. The rooms, while small, had everything we needed. Beds were so comfortable. I personally enjoyed the "parlor time" with games, cider or tea in the evenings and that coffee and tea were available almost all of the time. The breakfasts were delicious - with quite good gluten free options. That Eggs Florentine was especially good! I didn't like being charged before my stay was complete. Between the deposit that was taken in advance, the hold for the incidentals and the payments taken the day before the stay was over, there were a lot of what I feel were unnecessary charges.
