Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (4/5): Nasty room - The room was not clean and the towels were dirty beds were hard sheets don't get changed and my second last day I noticed cockroaches and they are dealing drugs out back of the office and I developed a rash on my legs from sleeping in the bed
- Jerry (2/5): - Room wasn’t available , I called and they told me to go to another location, I went there , nobody was there , I called again and they told me to go back to the first place and they can clean one for me, they did but it was dirty as hell,
- Verified traveler (2/5): Horrible don't ever go - I was literally there for 5 minutes before i decided not to stay. It was disgusting horrible nasty
- Felix (4/5): - Roaches and nothing work in the room
- Thomas (6/5): - Convenient to my organized bicycling tour end 4/26 at Hampton Inn Elizabeth City (other hotels in the area were fully booked). Noisy — only 40 meters away from busy hwy US-17 and a high-pitched sound that seems to come from the room’s fridge/freezer; Bring earplugs. Pros: efficient fridge/freezer; business-like staff; clean (except for some stray pet hair). Cons: no security latch on door; in my room 112, unrepaired damage from previous guests — missing shower head (unpleasant to use, to say the least, and Wasteful of water); dented inside bathroom door, dented outside door with keycard-operated lock looking like it’s not biting into solid wood. No desk lamp; chair is not suitable for the desk (no casters). I’d stay here again if no other hotel had rooms available.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Stay away - Linens in poor condition. Room not clean. Bugs in every room. Neighbors very noisy until 3:30 AM. Overall condition of room was tired and worn. Attempting to refresh but has made the grade yet.
- M David (2/5): - I arrived & checked-in. The clerk on duty was very nice & kind.
The room was unacceptable.
Here's why; deadbolt didn't work or turn, no hot water (and ran water for @ 5 mins), toilet seat was broken, toilet paper holder missing, smell/odor from a/c unit, bed box frame was extremely loud & noisy, key card failed, then electronic door lock lost power and had to be let into my room manually.
When I asked a room change, I was told that they only had a "double" available. Staff appeared to be a bit hesitant to have me switch rooms.
When it was agreed to move rooms, to room 100;
there was no parking at or near room 100
I made the decision to pack up & find another place to stay for the night, which I did find at COMFORT INN.
Finally, the front office had the heavy smell of marijuana in the air. And all around room 108 had the same smell.
Also, the tv in room 108 was set for room 110. Remote did not work. When I informed the front office about this, I was told "well, that's the cable peoples fault". So no tv to use in room 108. And the free wifi was spotty at best.

DO NOT RECOMMENED
- James (2/5): - Booked a room got there and said they were overbooked. Then sent me to another motel said they were affiliated with. Got to the other hotel and they’re not even affiliated. Wasn’t able to get a refund don’t waste your time or money booking with this establishment.
- robert (2/5): - I was staying at room num 104 & I woke up with bedbugs bites all over my arm and back!!!
- Arielle (2/5): - Roach infestation
- Amber (2/5): So dirty I didn’t stay the night - Dead bugs on the comforter. Foul odor in the room. Stain on the sheets. Dead spider on the pillow. Did not stay the night. The room was disgusting and I was exhausted. I want a refund for the room.
- Onyx (2/5): - It was dirty and my door room didn’t lock .
- Nicole (2/5): - My wife booked on Expedia. Before arriving locals warned us not to stay there. We walked in to a depressing and dirty room. Saw 3 roaches in bathroom and immediately went to office, turned in key, told person on duty why we were leaving and took off. Do not even think about staying here.
- Maximilian (2/5): - Floor was dirty, air conditioning stunk terrible, bed sheets had stains, cockroaches and other creepy crawlies in the room.
- Jana (6/5): Below average - I understand this isnt a 5 star hotel, but still expected a clean room. Floor was very dirty, pillows were shoved into drawer and had no pillow case, no washcloths, no soap, bugs crawling on floor.
- Bob (2/5): - Never have been to a worse motel. When I pulled back the bed spread I observed a dead small bug and dirty sheets . I couldn’t stay and checked out immediately.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Felt like home - Room was clean and spacious. Large parking lot and shade area for enjoying the weather. Friendly and VERY accommodating staff. Will definitely stay AGAIN!
- Eva (6/5): - Lawn was mowed not a lot trash no shade
- Matthew (8/5): - Very nice staff. The room was updated, clean and quiet.
- Rebecca (2/5): Bad experience - When I got to Whispering Pines, they were full and had relocated me to one of their other hotels. The other hotel, Travelers Inn was further away, in a less desirable part of town, and the owner refused to give me a refund.
- Daniel (2/5): - I did not even stay. Unsafe and disgustingly dirty.
- Robert (2/5): - What is ‘unique’ about this site is that it is closed for renovations! Good job Expedia with this reservation!
- Anna (4/5): - We were moved last minute to another motel owned by the same owners and told it was recently renovated and cost more but we got for price paid for whistling pines. The rooms were cheaply updated and filthy. Got a nonsmoking room that reeked of smoke, the counters were bumpy with dirt and putting the white towels on the floor came up dark brown from filth.
- Samuel (10/5): - Very clean cozy little motel in town. Recently remodeled, clean rooms !
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Conveniently located, best price in town...chose this motel so I could park my bike in front of the room, safe and quiet. Kuddos to the ownership on running a nice place
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice clean motel in town. We stayed here on the way to OBX. Staff was nice you could tell they are undergoing renovations at the moment, huge TVs in the room are great.
- Dawn (2/5): - Roaches everywhere sheets and blankets were sticky and just dirty. That place should be torn down. I closed the door and left to stay at another hotel
- Jerry (8/5): Transferred for Reno. - Because of renovations we were transferred to nearby hotel Travelers Inn. Hotel was everything we expected(nice, clean, moderately priced).
Wewere immediately informed about the needed transfer and everything went smoothly. I would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cozy little motel in town! Cabin rooms are very nice!!
- Donald (2/5): Roaches - Roaches
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cozy little motel. Very clean modern...staff is very friendly...highly recommended!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Kind of shady unprofessional motel
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Was moving in town and needed a place for a few weeks. Great weekly rates. Staff was nice also
- Jakie (10/5): - The stay was great staff friendly. Ill recommend to everyone
- George (10/5): - clean rooms, nice staff! The price was right..needed somewhere clean and safe to stay, this place fit that. Will return during my next visit to Elizabeth City.
- Jackie (10/5): - Nice place to stay in EC. Clean, price was right..couldn't complain!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice little motel. This place was clean, comfortable, and safe. I ended up staying weekly, and the manager at the front gave me the best price in town. Will definitely come back again soon!
- Adam (10/5): - Clean, quiet, comfortable.
I have stayed at several other motels in town and decided to try this one out. It was everything I needed! 50 inch LED TVs is a plus!
- SamS. (10/5): - I visit Elizabeth City a few times a month. This time I decided to try out the Whistling Pines Motel. This property was everything I needed. The rooms were very clean and the staff was awesome. The property was perfect for me during my visit to town. I can see they just renovated the place. Ignore the negative reviews, I give this place 2 thumbs up! Will definitely return soon.
- Verified traveler (8/5): No towels - No towels, a little expensive for what you got but it was a nice place. Could not lock the door
- Verified traveler (4/5): Couples race day weekend - When we arrived it took the counter person several minutes to come to the counter. We were then given the wrong room assignment and the employee had to find us to exchange the room key.
Next when checking the bathroom there was no toliet paper. My husband went to the front desk to ask fir toluet paper and and extra ice bucket. He was gone for 10 minutes and upon his rerurn was empty handed. He stated he asked for assistance and the clerk stated they would be right with him and apparently continued to speak with someone in the back room and ignored him. I then went to the feont desk and got the toilet paper and asked for ansecond ice bucket. I got the toilet paper and never received the sedond ice bucket. I was told, "I will see what I can find" and never seen the clerk again.
As for the rest of the room, the comforter on the bed had holes in it, the pillow cases were stained, I'm hoping they were actually washed, the remote to the TV didnt work and there was no trash cans in the room at all.
Also at one point, the screen door got stuck and we thought we were locked out of the room by the screen door.
In the morning, my husband went to the feont deak to check out and there was no clerk on duty. Rang the bell, no one came, so he put the card back in the room and we just left.
Luckily we were only spending the night or we would have found other accommodations.
I was completely disappointed as the website with pictures made it look like a really cute place to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was ready when i got there. Didnt have to wait or go through the problems
- Verified traveler (4/5): - there was a bad distinctive odor to my room.. i had to buy a can of air freshener so i could sleep in the room.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - First thing I noticed upon entering room was pillows with no pillow cases thrown in middle of bed. I went to office and asked about cases. I followed girl out to laundry room where she picked them up from large pile of laundry on floor. Since I was going to a laundromat I washed cases there. When I got back to room rather late, I found there were no towels or washcloths. Office was dark. I dried off with a T-shirt.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The person next there had women running in and out down the street nonstop. An ambulance came and had to pick one up that had OD.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The door framing came off the wall as soon as I opened the door to the room. The bed linen smelled bad. There weren't any toiletries in the bathroom, had to send someone to get some from the office. There were bugs in the bathroom as well.
- James (8/5): Great for workers at the Solar Site in Winfall - Great for working dads who don’t want to spend too much. Probably could be a little cheaper but not enough to really keep me from staying. Very near to food and my job site
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice updated room. Only downside was that it was next to the front office and walls are not soundproof. So you hear every phone ring and every customer who comes in.
- John (10/5): Lovely quaint motel - Lovely quaint motel with very clean and comfortable rooms. The owners were friendly and inviting
