Guest Reviews
- Sebastien (9/5): Jungle escape with a view - Great views on the Bay. Luxury tents accommodation very well thought out. Access to beach resort downhill Mosquitoes. Mosquito control is very difficult given location is very jungle like. Well managed in the room itself. Issue is more on the common resort areas. Would require large scale regular fumigation to keep the Big Tent restaurant manageable etc
- Adrian (9/5): Perfect stay when you visit Yao Noi - The views , the beach , the location . Amazing people who work there
We had the best view In principle we liked everything .
- s (10/5): - Beautiful view from our hillside tent. Lovely beach and very helpful staff
- Julian (10/5): -

Rien
- Maria (10/5): Fineste plassen og oppholdet -
- Dandij (9/5): Very authentic tent vila w private pool - Wonderful staff, very attentive and caring.
The tent set up feels like you're in the Amazons. very private and secluded
- Jerin (10/5): Amazing place to relax and unwind, surrounded by nature. Amazing view, the staff is very attentive and the food is amazi - Location, food, staff
(10/5): - The stuff was incredibly lovely, especially Leon, who was remarkable and answered every of our request quickly, Kelvin, Johnny, Yamin, from the reception were also so nice and kind, and Zue Zue, every morning brought us the delicious and great breakfast, and was so gentle, so warm and we could feel his kindness and the high level of service even from the way he put our plates on the table. I especially want to thank all those of the above for their service. The tent was magnificent, incredible view and also the location itself is really amongst the best in the island. All in all, we had an amazing time, and the stuff even made it better. ( Even though just the place and the view could be amazing by its own). Highly recommend! Surly will come back!
- JEAN-MICHEL (10/5): Unique location in a beautiful and tranquil glamorous tents - The large tent has an indoor and outdoor living space. Your nest on the hillside overlooking the whole bay, seeing the weather change boats arrive and go and the amazing bird life. I read that this place was called 9 hornbills because a long time ago the rare birds, nine of them, were seen here.
I understand talking to the staff that in the meantime the population of these Horn bills have grown thanks to an effort of the local people providing suitable breeding places.
Tasteful design the tent all in massive teak wood and comfortable especially the oversize large bed which comes in handy when you’re above average height and your feet are not sticking out.
There is a decent private pool at each tent where they also serve breakfast if you care for that .
We found it exceptional value for money , so come in the less busier times like now.
You have access to its sister Resort, Koyao Island Resort, and use all the facilities, like stand-up paddle kayaks bikes, et cetera. It is an easy walk or if you prefer a buggy ride.
Their Thai food is outstanding, we tried also a few international dishes which were impeccable.
Good wine selection, very reasonably priced
I enjoyed the most that there is a special tent as a shared working space, pictures attached, so I could do some of the necessary.
There’s also a gym which is basic, but it has all what you need. You can double up as a yoga space as well, with gorgeous views over the bay. We stayed not long enough.
- Jose (10/5): -
- Dylan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Henk (10/5): A magical stay with the best view of Phang Nga Bay - A magical stay above the bay!
Set high on the hill with panoramic views over Phang Nga Bay , absolutely breathtaking. The private pool with its outdoor terrace was the perfect spot to relax, and the luxury tented villa was such a unique and beautifully styled experience. It was the ultimate place to completely rest and recharge. Breakfast served in the pool was a stunning highlight — like something out of a dream. And the best part? I actually saw hornbills right in front of my villa’s garden. Wow. Truly unforgettable.
- R6726PCrobertg (10/5): Great value glamping luxury with perhaps the best view in the world. - After weeks travelling through Vietnam and Thailand, we were so looking forward to a few days and nights of luxury and somewhere to properly relax and rejuvenate. We had an amazing Panorama Tented Camp with pool overlooking the spectacular limestone islands of Phang Nga Bay and Krabi in the distance.
The accommodation (glamping with dark wooden floors, a super comfy four poster bed, bath with a view and an outdoor shower) was even better than the photos online. The service was wonderful and staff incredibly helpful and friendly. We organised a half day boat trip to visit Hong Island and other nearby sites, allowing time to explore beaches, coves and do a little snorkelling. It was one of the highlights of our trip.
The food was also great. We ate at the sister beach resort (Koyao Island Resort) but also ventured out to nearby bars and restaurants which were greta value and offered tasty food. We both also enjoyed an incredible full body deep tissue massage in resort.
I would happy return and would recommend 9 Hornbills Tented Camp (and Koyao Island Resort) to anyone wanting picturesque luxury away from the more crowded places like Phuket. Overall, it was great value for money and just what we needed before continuing our island hopping.
- Akdanai (10/5): Unforgettable - The view is stunning, you have to experience and see with your own eyes. The staff are very helpful and responsive. Go ahead and make that booking without any hesitation!
- Constantin (9/5): Superb -
- Roy (7/5): Good - Top notch location/view- helpful & friendly staff Too many large insects overall in the island - frustrating inability to control indoor pests especially in the tents.
- Enrico (10/5): - Très beau séjour dans les tentes. Belle expérience
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caitlin (5/5): Great for instagram pictures but bad for the price - The view is what you pay for. It is undoubtedly a beautiful view and beach. At this price you expect much more in Thailand. Finishings are outdated and the service was the worst we had in Thailand.
- Scenic53077662775 (4/5): Better at the Resort Beach Villa - Tents are linked to another resort by the sea. We asked to change from a tent to a beach villa because the private pool was very dirty compare to the hotel's one that was immaculate. Humid smell in the tent, and a big construction site next to it that ruined the view. Tents have A/C, and amenities aside the tent itself look fine inside. Also, the tents are up in the hill and transfer from hotel to tent stop at 10pm, you have to plan in advance to rent a scooter to go to your room if you plan to go around the island at night ! The beach villa at the other resort was perfect and cheaper.
- Sara (9/5): Wonderful experience - Location and experience
- bernhardmK6715NI (10/5): Perfect for couples to relax - We had a perfect stay of 4 nights in the tent. The view is amazing, looking down on the ocean and the beautiful islands. The sunrise is spectacular. Being surrounded by lush green nature and the sound of birds is perfect to relax. The tent was very luxurious. They brought us breakfast to the room every morning, even floating breakfast in the pool. The private dinner we booked extra was one of a kind - private seafood bbq right at the tent. The employees very very kind and friendly, always trying to help as much as they could. The sports massage at the spa was great too. We could also use the beach and pool of the Koyao resort (the resort doesn’t have many rooms so it is never crowded on the beach). We didn’t find anything that wasn’t great.
- Kamki (8/5): Luxurious tents, spectacular location, remote island - A truly unique and memorable property, with lots of positives and one or two challenges too.
This is part of Kohyao Island resort, which is a beachside resort with regular rooms and a restaurant - more like what you expect from a hotel. But if you stay in the tents, then they have a buggy which shuttles you up the hill to your personal tent. This is both a plus and a minus, see below.
Positives: the tents are amazing. They are sophisticated, comfortable, luxurious and very well thought out. Each tent sits on a plot of land with lush vegetation between the tents, creating a sense of utter solitude. They have unobstructed private views of the Andaman sea and the islands, which is stunning. Each tent has a private pool which you can bath in (naked, if you like), and it makes you feel like you are the king of your domain. The outdoor shower is awesome, and all the amenities are superb. In short: you will wish for nothing while in your tent.
Breakfast is very good too, especially when done in the room. They give you the option of ordering the night before, and you get one night where you can have a "floating" breakfast where they bring breakfast to you, lay it out on a floating raft in your personal pool and you can have breakfast in the pool. In truth, it's a little impractical, but highly instagrammable. We ended up taking it out of the pool and having it on the table next to the pool, which was more comfortable, but seeing it floating there first thing in the morning was such an experience. Alternatively you can have breakfast down at the main hotel, but the selection there is kind of middling, and probably not worth it. If I did it again, I would do room service every morning.
The hotel can make arrangements for scooter (350 baht half day, 450 baht 24 hours), snorkeling, kayak and (I suppose) scuba (which we never did). They are very accommodating and helpful.
The resort property by the beach is well done. It has enough beds to lie on, a great swimming pool, and the beach is totally lovely. The staff are excellent and helpful. This is a fantastic place to go and just sit the whole day, which is what a lot of people did while we were there.
The snorkeling tour was fabulous - half day to some of the islands, seeing the highlight islands and doing about an hour of really good snorkeling. Well with the afternoon for us.
Food at the restaurant was only slightly over priced, but the quality was excellent. Service was fine, sometimes slow, but sometimes fast, and always courteous. I enjoyed the Thai food a lot, but the western food was hit and miss. The cocktails were excellent, but they came out very slowly - once we got our cocktails after we had finished eating our entire meal! But overall, the restaurant is pretty good.
Negatives: the buggy up to the tent is a bit of a pain. In order to get up and down, you need to request the buggy, which usually comes in less than 5 minutes, but then you have to take the ride up to your tent. And when you want to come down, you can message them on Whatsapp and they will come get you. But that means you have to wait 10 minutes for the buggy to come up, and then you have to rush out as soon as the buggy arrives. So it makes leaving a bit of a pain - you can't just leave on time, but need to build in that extra segment. This could be avoided if you rent a scooter the whole time and ride up the tent yourself.
Getting to the island is either a pain or expensive. They offer a private service for that, coming from Bang Rong pier in Phuket, but that is exorbitantly priced, something like 16000 baht. The alternative is to do it yourself, which is much cheaper (400 baht per person by boat, then 100 baht taxi ride to the resort), but it's a pain. So be prepared for that. Having said that, I think it really adds to the experience, and I enjoyed the trek across the gulf a lot.
Overall, I think this property deserves 4.5 stars, not 4. The seclusion and sense of luxury is truly impressive, and as I say, this was a once in a lifetime experience for us, and we will treasure this memory forever. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for seclusion and luxury, and is not in any rush to get anywhere.
- mipdantravel (6/5): Could be really nice - Booked several months ahead. Communication ok for arrangement of transfers. Boat drops you off at the beach of the hotel. Better be young and fit. For us (70y old) it was "challenging".
Tent: getting old and sometimes at places a little dirty. Let's give it the eco-charm advantage. Outside shower and reasonably good bedding. Hard pillows.
View: fantastic
A buggy drives you up and down to the Koyao beach resort for the beach, the restaurant and the main pool. (Koyao and Hornbills are the same hotel)
Nice beach, nice restaurant and service with a smile. Communication problems are easily overcome.
Front desk is eager to please.
Why 3 stars?
This is not a 5star but a 4star hotel, too many luxury elements are missing.
But mainly because next to the tents there is a major construction site planting a big concrete hotel into the hill. This construction represents everything that can destroy the authentic and laid-back atmosphere of Koh Yao Noi. This construction works certainly destroyed our peace and enjoyment of the otherwise beautiful setting.
The construction is not about to end or finish, so beware of this (particularly if you end up in one of the southernmost tents).
The price is steep and even steeper in high season this year. But this is the case all over Thailand. Is this overpricing killing the goose that lays the golden eggs?
- Emilda (9/5): Real island holiday, worth the effort of getting there. - Amazing location, great food and service We had view of a construction site
- Tatiana (8/5): Getaway in nature - Proximity to nature, great views over the bay, rustic & relaxed atmosphere, including at the beach. Nice restaurant and spa. Off beaten tourists paths. Kind staff (but you need to ask for what you need, and sometimes follow up) Facilities are a bit tired and not very clean in the areas outside of the tent. Mosquitos and lizards in the tent, frogs in the shower. AC right above the bed which makes it difficult to use at night. Guests can't switch lights in the pool in front of their tent - these are controlled centrally and do not get off, so you end up sleeping with blue light pouring into the room.
- Hanan (9/5): Superb - The staff and the manger where very helpful with my husband
Thnks alot
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The place is a dream. The view is the best view you can ever get. You get a lot of privacy vs the other villas, even at the pool. We saw hornbills and more wildlife. The facilities at the hotel were beautiful, the infinity pool by the beach is amazing, and the hotel has the best beach of the island (however ko yao noi has not great beaches, it is more a quiet, more virgin and local island with only a few hotels). I cannot give the highest rating for two reasons, first one is the service, they have plenty of people really trying to help you, but they dont often success, not sure if it is a language barrier or lack of training. Second one is the state of the tents… Old, stains everywhere, we tried to open fully the tent but the zippers didnt work, in one i found a small honeycomp. All in all, signs of abandonment and careless.
Still i would fully recommend the place, because of how beautiful it is. But i really hope they start fixing things.
- Passenger00802044185 (10/5): Awesome,Sexy,Scenic - Very good hospitality very good service room was good very scenic location would recommend for sure anyone visiting this island very good food really Like the look of the hotel also close to the beach and very fun lots of stuff to do very nice resort
- Ance (10/5): Exceptional -
- Khunpak (8/5): Very good -
- Ganesh (10/5): AWSOME JUST WHAT WE NEEDED - LOCATION CLEAN AND FRIENDLY STAFF
- Syed (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tayebeh (9/5): Superb -
- Bramthetraveller (10/5): Perfect but English not so good. - Stayed 3 nights in a tent. View is tunning and everything in regards to communication with reception is by whatsapp, convenient.
The tents are secluded, so if you want to go to reception you call for a buggy through whatsapp.
Dinner is ok, at just 1200-1300 baht for 1 starter, 2 mains and 2 drinks. The water is complementary.
Breakfast is served at the restaurant or at your tent, at no extra charge. Do this, it is much nicer.
If you book directly with them (not through booking or expedia) you get a free 30 minutes madage per person and they pick you up from around phuket or around krabi. Getting bqck is a bit more difficult (or we thought).
Tuktuk was 200 baht, hotel can help you with that.
There is a speedboat going from here to either phuket or krabi. This is the details for krabi. Boat leaves at 830. We were there before 8 (european….)
Nobody was there. 827 a boat arrivés. A speedboat with room for over 25 people. Our had only 8. You pay 300 baht p.p. and pay obce you leave. More then enough space for all your lluggage. Once you get to the pier, there is nothing there. We had a transfer all the way to ko samui pier to get the boat. This was a private transfer aranged by co van kessel agency at 4500 baht. Trip takes 2,5 hours.
Keep in mind that there are no twxis there waiting, so use grap the asian uber app.
- Kevin (10/5): - The staff were very friendly and accomodating. We were there in the off season and arrived in a heavy rain and the staff made the check in process easy.
We did an excurision for the hotel in a long boat to the islands with our guide Pong. I highly recommend it was great experience swimming in the lagoon, enjoying the beach and observation tower.
We took advantage of the bikes available and it was easy riding to local restaurants and shops.
We enjoyed the food in the restaurant as well as the daily breakfasts, including the floating breakfast in the pool.
We enjoyed walking around the property and seeing the wildlife, including a monkey, lizards, hornbills and other birds.
We enjoyed our experience and personal pool. The views were spectacular over the water.
Looking forward to returning for another stay.
- Iaz (9/5): Superb - We loved the pool and the view from the tent Even though its secluded, you still dont have a lot of privacy. Some tents are too close. Also workers come to clean around and you can see them from the pool
- Daniel (10/5): - Absolutely incredible property, attentive and friendly staff—truly an unforgettable experience!
- mfokkelman (10/5): Beautiful place, great food, amazing views: just wonderful! - We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 nights at 9 Hornbills: what a great time and what a beautiful place.
The room / tent is spacious, beautiful, and had all the facilities and luxury we would need. The outside shower was really nice. The private pool was wonderful and had a proper large size I would say. Breakfast in the pool: can surely recommend to try out too. The plot offers a lot of privacy (almost full/perfect privacy), and a magnificent view over the sea: wow! the sunrise is just amazing from the garden, or from your bed ;)
The restaurant down at Yoa Noi beach resort was really nice and the food was high quality: we enjoyed every meal there, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Service is very friendly and helpful. And restaurant prices very affordable. And there's always a buggy with driver available to take you up to your tent/villa, or down to the restaurant, spa or beach. The main pool and beach were enjoyable too. And the spa was very nice also.
We loved the friendly, sweet staff that was so nice, helpful and accommodating.
We felt like we were in and around nature at all times, with that beautiful view of the islands in the sea, this was just a perfect place to celebrate part of our honeymoon. Highly recommended!
- Dhari (7/5): Good -
- guaranist (10/5): Visiting Koh Yoa Noi - In one word: AMAZING! What can I say. From the moment of arrival until departing the hotel it was simply an amazing experience. The staff is the best, trained to excellence service. We stayed at the luxury tent and it was all for ourselves. I can only recommend this experience to anyone whom like nature and enjoys all animals sounds around you. What a marvellous place and the view is simply breathtaking. I didn’t wanted to leave this place.
A bit pricey but worth it.
- S. (10/5): Fantastic Stay! - Our best glamping experience ever!
The tent is much bigger than our expectations with full facilities and comfort. The bed is so soft and we slept very well. We loved the privacy and sunrise view. It was super relaxing and enjoyable. Staff are friendly and helpful.
- Michael (10/5): - Unique Glamping experience wit extremely friendly staff in great nature
- André (10/5): Total relaxation in pure nature - spacious luxurious tent with private pool and stunning sea views - - Exceptional views towards the Bileh Archipel Marine park
- Hideaway in the nature with full privacy (ideal for honeymoon couples and long married)
- Spacious tent with private pool: very nicely equipped, very clean, tastefully designed and furnished - just out of the ordinary
- I liked that we were able to enjoy the phantastic beach, pool and restaurant of Koyao Island Resort (the two locations belong together)
- We had a magnificant breakfast served to our private pool
- Right next to extra luxuary resort of Six Senses, but with very affordable and fair rates
- they care a lot about environmental friendliness
- we liked the free available bicycles, kayaks and SUP's
- Michèle (10/5): As perfect as it can get - Secluded and completely private Robinson Crusoe paradise. If you just want to forget about the rest of the world and run around naked all day while sunbathing and taking dips in the pool it can’t really get any better. We wanted to end our trip in Thailand with some peace and quiet and a place to ourselves. During our 4 weeks in Thailand we were mostly disappointed with the accommodations in relation to the price, however this time we were positively surprised. The view, tent, jungle and pool were fantastic, the service impeccable. With the driver, who is conveniently summoned by a WhatsApp message to the front desk, you are pretty much anywhere in the resort in no time. Food and drinks were delicious. There is a small shop for snacks between the resort and the tended camp. Bike rentals are included so you can easily travel the vicinity…which is, however, not necessary, as the camp is so beautiful that most of the time we wanted to stay in our little piece of paradise and not ever leave. Also it has the best beds i’ve ever had in any hotel ever. All in all it was a fantastic stay, 10/10 would recommend any time.
- James (10/5): Spectacular Views - The villa was very private and the views were spectacular. The service staff were genuinely friendly and attentive to all our requests. The food menu had a great combination of both Thai and western cuisine.
The romantic dinner served at our own tent was good value and 5 star quality.
I would highly recommend taking the speedboat transfer to and from the resort to enhance your experience.
Overall we would highly recommend this resort to others and we will return ASAP.
P.S. The hornbills that we spotted were beautiful and we understand how the resort was named. Nothing to report since we totally enjoyed our stay.
We read a couple negative reviews about this resort but feel that these reviews missed the plot.
- Simmelkjær (10/5): Its like hair conditioner but for your soul and spirit. - The locations is absolutely breathtaking, splashing around in your own private pool, enjoying the peace and some good wine. Just complete feeling of calm surrender. And the sunrise nowhere else - you can follow the sun from the tiny redline in horizon and follow it through all of its fases.
Sweet and friendly staff always ready help.
- Hamood (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brian (9/5): Superb - It is expensive but no regrets for the amazing experience. Food within the property is good, but there are few better restaurants nearby worth trying.
- BeataBee99 (10/5): Glamping with an incredible view! - We stayed 3 nights at 9 Horn Bills in February and enjoyed every minute of this unique experience. We loved the privacy of our tented pool villa and the view was absolutely breathtaking. The staff was also so nice and accommodating . The food at the restaurant down at Koyao hotel was tasty. We had a special bbq dinner organized for my birthday and it was super romantic and the staff took such a great care of us.
9 Horn Bills also organized a private guided tour for us to Hong Island and we loved it!
We always seek for unique places to stay and 9 Horn Bills was definitely one of those we will never forget!
- liselottej222 (10/5): Amazing "glamping" experience!!! - We spent three great, eventful weeks in Thailand. Five of these days at Hotel 9 Hornbills in Ko Yao Noi.
The extremely nice and courteous people and the sensational weather that accompanied us almost every day made our vacation really perfect. A particular highlight was the Panorama Tented Pool Villa. We spent Christmas Eve with an excellently organized barbecue under millions of stars. The buffet was excellent and left nothing to be desired.
We can gladly recommend the hotel.

- Susan (10/5): I was blown away with the resort. I will DEFINITELY re visit. The staff were very friendly. - Breakfast was plentiful. We opted not to get the free buggy ride. Who doesn't want to walk a mile to Breakfast 😀 It is a shame the upper bar/restaurant is not open. Not a complaint, you can't help covid!
- Areen (1/5): Bad - Nothing, everything was disappointing 😞 It was disappointing 😞
The 9 hornbills placed so so far from the resort, lonley in a jungle it's so scared, the private pool not clean.
We can't stay there and moved to resort room, but also we can't sleep all the night because of the insects and frogs everywhere
The door with no key, anyone can enter the room anytime, it's not safety
We booked 2 nights, but can't stay there more than one night ):
I don't recommend this place, it's so expensive, uncomfortable and no safety
- Varisara (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sulaiman (10/5): Exceptional - everything was awsome, the staff were friendly and kind. Prime location Nothing
- TobiandNeelam (10/5): Glamping with million dollar view - Super stylish glamping with million dollar view.
We loved the light and romantic flair of the safari tent featuring a claw footed bathtub with view over phang nga bay. The staff was extremely attentive, yet highly respectful of our privacy.
- Nitya (10/5): Beautiful and private villa stay with a view of the islands. - The key highlight of staying here is the isolation and the private pool. It's like a private villa inside nature with a beautiful view of the islands. The staff is very polite and offered our breakfast to be delivered to the room with a floating table in the pool. We also ordered in room service dinner which was very nicely delivered.
- jeanninneh (6/5): Nice view and pool, but high cost for what you get. - We spent one night in a tent pool villa as part of our Honeymoon. The staff at the resort were friendly and accommodating, but we found that our stay was expensive for what we got.
Tent villa: it was a unique experience. The view of the islands was beautiful, especially at sunrise. The pool was a great size and fairly clean. However, we found that the room itself was not worth the high price we paid. The air conditioning did not work very well so the room was quite hot. Luckily the fans did the job to keep us cool when we were sleeping. The mini fridge did not cool our drinks well.
Food: we had dinner at the main resort. The food was tasty and decently priced. Drink prices were on the high side. We really appreciated the complimentary floating breakfast that the staff arranged for us in our pool.
Staff: as mentioned earlier, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. They arranged airport transfer for us, and readily picked us up from our tent villa via golf cart whenever we requested a ride down.
Overall, if the price of the room was cheaper, I would have given the resort a 4 star review. However, we do not feel that it is good value for your money based on what you get and the quality of the finishes in the room.
- Sham (10/5): Peaceful and good for couple! - The view was magnificent and peaceful. All staffs are very welcoming and always go all the way to serve us.The floating breakfast was wow! Will definitely come back. Noting but the mosquito(we can’t control nature right hehe)
- arshsgmdv (10/5): Island Bliss - If your looking for a relaxing and serene location for couples or young family’s this is the perfect location to be. Alex and Jennifer went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome during our stay. Plus the locals were always accommodating. The friendliest place I’ve visited by far.
The room or should I say tents were in excellent condition and the pool was always clean. I have a major fear of bugs so I was hesitant to stay here. But the staff does a great job of pest control. I promise you won’t regret staying here.
- Molly (10/5): the location and customer service was unmatched. the best accomodation I have every stayed in and would 100% recommend t - the property was stunning. great amenities and the view was beyond our expectations. the pool was so lovely nothing we loved it all
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional - The tent was amazing! felt like being on a safari somewhere! the accomodation is stunning and the location is incredible. Location and the accomodation.
- 265lilyh (10/5): Beautiful place! - Most beautiful place - we spent just hours looking at the view, it never got old. I’d spent so much time looking online for places to go for our honeymoon that just before arriving I got so worried the place wouldn’t live up to the pictures - this wasn’t at all the case, the pool was larger than expected and the tent and all furnishing were so beautiful. Service was excellent, we were the last tent so the walk down to the hotel was quite long but we never had to wait longer than a minute for a buggy to drive us up and down. Food was delicious, and particularly nice eating privately outside our tent, something we did most nights. Easy to rent mopeds to explore the island and we found several great lunch places nearby. On one morning we did a boat trip organised by the hotel which was lovely (see picture!). Finally, hotel was really helpful with any requests we had, we were able to communicate via WhatsApp which was much more convenient and the hotel staff arranged our whole trip off the island to Koh lanta for us. Would definitely return!
- LisaGBris (10/5): Outstanding views, peace and tranquility - We had 4 nights in the main Koyao Island Resort, then moved up to 9 Hornbills for 3 nights, which worked really well for us. Contact during our booking process was excellent and the front desk were particularly helpful, arranging our transfer to the next hotel with no fuss (when the hotel we were moving to were less than helpful).
The views we'd enjoyed down in the resort just got better up the hill at 9 Hornbills and the pool, privacy and sense of space was exceptional. The tent was huge, light and bright and the private pool was bigger than average. There was an outdoor shower and a roll-top bath with shower attachment inside the tent bathroom area. Aircon did the job. It was cool enough in the morning, evening and through the night when you need it. It did get hot in the tent during the day, but this wasn't an issue as we were outside all day and you could just cool off in the pool. You are certainly away from it all up here, but that's literally the whole point. We walked to the main resort for breakkie or when going out for dinner (12 mins easy stroll downhill) and got the golf buggy back up.
Jaw-dropping sunrises from our bed or the pool and one evening, we watched the most dramatic storm from our covered deck, seeing the clouds roll in to obscure the karsts completely for a time, before the rain thrashed down around us. We sat out under cover, drinking our Singhas and taking in the thunder and lightning show - it was amazing to watch from up a height.
The main resort was peaceful, beautiful and clean, with one restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and a spa, where I had really excellent oil massages (inc air con and a big comfy bed with a hole for your face to allow the brilliant therapist to work her magic on tight shoulders).
The staff were all friendly and helpful, remembering our preferences and talking with us each day. If ever anyone didn't understand a question, they would quickly go and get a staff member who did, always with a smile.
We had dinner at the main resort twice, both very good Thai meals and plenty of choice on the menu. The rest of the time, we ate in local places. There's a small bar/bottle shop 5 mins walk if you turn right outside the main resort, serving very cold beer in coolers, where we sat and watched the locals come and go before dinner. It's just before a small supermarket (Chans) which sold all the essentials and ran a very popular scooter hire. P'Chans restaurant wasn't open while we were there (but still shows on google maps). There are more places to eat and drink 10-15 mins walk if you turn left outside the main resort (or you can walk along the beachfront, in which case turn right from the resort). The hotel would happily take you to any of these in the golf buggy, but we prefer a wee walk. We never had a bad meal and enjoyed Parabar (boat shaped place - massive portions, great curries), Chubba cafe (for an arty, hippy lunch or coffee and cake or a shake), By the Sea (where you can pre-order your choice of fish or take what's come in fresh) and Pyramid. Everyone we met in these places was chatty and friendly, all keen to know where you're from and how they can help you have a great holiday. There were plenty of other places to eat around, but we stuck to those within a 20 min walk and enjoyed listening to the frogs and crickets on the walk home.
We did still spend some time at the beach at the main resort, despite having our own pool at 9 Hornbills. It was just so nice and certainly the best bit of beach in this part of KYN. The sand was soft and the beach was clean, quiet and long enough to go for a decent walk. The tide would be out first thing, but the beach was still pretty at this end (very rocky at the other end). It would come in over the course of the morning, making it great for swimming or cooling off and easy to get the kayaks in the water. There is also a gorgeous infinity style pool - which you could lie in and look at the karsts - we never got bored of looking at them and plenty of shade from the palm trees. Every day we saw hornbills, kites and eagles around the resort, it was lovely. Overall, 9 Hornbills and Koyao Island Resort exceeded my expectations. The whole vibe is so relaxed, even to the extent that there are no locks on your villa door, which mirrors the island mentality of openness and trust (locals would leave their keys in their scooters and phones and wallets unattended - not at all possible in the UK these days!). The views, outstanding natural beauty and peace and quiet were the reason I booked this stay and it certainly did not disappoint. Good times :-)
- PintoJessica (4/5): Unique property with premium price and poor service - When I first stumbled upon this resort in the social media, it caught my attention since this is quite unique and it is a luxury tented camp located on the hill where you get an amazing view of Phang Nga Bay with your own private pool. I then decided to book and stay for 3 days 2 nights with the Island Safari Package. I booked this package in 2020 but had to postpone the trip to 2021 due to Covid. The package includes round trip airport transfer, boat ride, tuk tuk ride to the resort and 1 dinner. Of course, even with the promotion, the price that I paid is quite high (premium price) and non-refundable. I had to pay in advanced for the full amount. Overall, I booked 2 tented camps as no extra bed is allowed if you wish to travel in a group of 3. Since we arrived Phuket airport, the driver was there waiting for us and drove us to Bang Rong Pier where we had to take the public boat from the mainland to Yao Noi island. The boat was packed with people and we had to sit in front of the speedboat with the rest of the luggage. The boat ride took about half an hour. The hotel doesn't have their own boat but for the price you paid, we were expecting something better. Both ways, we had to sit with the crowd at a very close range (there is no social distancing) as the boat was fully packed. Breakfast was another big disappointment with the low quality and limited selection. Dinner was not bad and the hotel gave us complimentary birthday cake to celebrate my friend's birthday. However, prior to arrival, I had confirmed the date of the dinner with the Assistant Reservation Manager during reservation. It doesn't look like any of the message was passed on to the staff at the property since the staff asked me questions that were provided to the Assistant Reservation Manager. During our stay, at some period of the day, it rained. There is no indoor bathroom in the tent but only a bathtub. There is outdoor shower, which wasn't practically during rainy season. When it drizzled, we had our bath outdoor but will definitely get wet from the rain. The bathtub is small and the entire floor will get wet if we have to take our shower in the bathtub. During check-out, we found out that the hotel was having the same promotion - Island Safari Package even cheaper than what we paid when we saw the pamphlet at the reception! After check-out, we were driven from the resort to the pier to catch our speedboat back to the mainland. The hotel staff dropped us at the pier, got us tickets and left. We did not have a clue or information on which boat to take other than having to ask the staff at the ticket counter. Of course, the boat was packed to the max since this is a public transportation. All in all, for the price my friends and I paid and the kind of service we got, we will not return to this property in the future as it is not worth the money. What is great about this luxury tented camp though is that you got your own privacy and the beautiful view.
- Carol (10/5): Glamping paradise - By far the most spectacular view and unique experience of our 3 week tour of southern Thailand. We enjoyed an amazing floating breakfast and were happy to sit all day watching eagles and hornbills from the large infinity pool.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location is fantastic, views of Phang Nga bay superb. Tents are top class, love it. Reception staff is not up to task, the dark complexion girl working at reception lacks tact and class, makes people feel unwelcome. At check-out, they tried to overcharge me 3 days, had to point out I paid in advance month ago. No apologies, nothing. Breakfast is quite poor for place that charges US$300 per day, I had better in ordinary guesthouses.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This Tented Camp is a great place to stay if you are looking for something different than a standard hotel. The views and nature are really amazing & helps you to disconnect from work and digital life. The private pool and the floating breakfast is just an amazing experience to share with your partner. The staff is very helpful and friendly, I really recommend this place to anyone that would like a new experience.
- Karen (10/5): - Such a great place to stay! The view from the room is amazing.... really great for honeymoon or romantic getaway.
- Kim (8/5): Scenic views and nature - The 9 Hornbills tents are a nice way to connect with nature. Please remember that you are staying in a tent and out in nature. The views in the morning were lovely and the staff although young, were attentive.
- WANWISA (8/5): Very nice - Location is great , the air-condition in a tent wasn't working well , it's too hot that we had to change the room .. Overall is a good resort to choose.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Beautiful tent and setting - The tent and view are both beautiful and well worth a visit.
Breakfast at the partner hotel is quite disappointing in comparison to what I would havd expected.
- IJEN (8/5): Wonderful and peaceful island - It's so relaxing and wonderful journey.
I thought it was inevitable to have mosquito problem in this tropical island.
Do have DEET product to make your journey perfect. Dont count on natural oil to survive in this safari
