Guest Reviews
- John (7/5): Great Value - A Nice Hostel - Excellent location just a couple blocks from downtown! The food trucks in the patio area have AMAZING food. There is a very social atmosphere at this hostel which is cool! If you are solo travelling, it is very easy to make friends. The hostel is a great budget option when visiting Bend. The cleanliness of the shared bathroom could be better. With the number of people sharing the facilities, it is somewhat understandable.
- Jenna (10/5): Chill. - It was very homey, even with a very short stay, I felt right at home. Nothing to really dislike.
- Kenna (5/5): - Great location, cheap, love the yard I stayed in the annex. It was filthy. The entire bed squeaked with even the tiniest movement.
- A A Ron (10/5): -
- Molly (1/5): Filthy drug ridden hostel. - Close to downtown. The property was filthy and drug ridden. They should call it Bud and Brew. People had marijuana pipes sitting out with their eeed in the kitchen. Also their karaoke night went almost to midnight downstairs and kept me up because it was so loud.
- Robert (9/5): I Thoroughly Enjoyed my Stay!!! - I Absolutely Loved the Free-Spirit Atmosphere!
Staff was Helpful & Courteous!
My room was Quiet & Comfortable!
Highly Recommend!!! I have No complaints.
- Michael (1/5): - Bunk Drunk & Brew Club. No misnomer/ hyperbole here. It doubles as a DRUG/ ALCOHOL DETOX CENTER catering/ pandering to the local alcohol addled population, and house you with them, knowing implicitly who they are. I'd be grossly negligent in not reporting they need a good beg bug eradication company. Yes. The latter occupy the flea bitten flophouse, then have the unmitigated temerity to TRY to lay/ assign blame on to others for again their "LOCALS" glaring/ compromised hygiene. The onus was on this critter to vacuum my room. It's classic MOM $ POP quasi Hostel, who are pretty derelict/ negligent in thoroughly cleaning and leave beds no longer occupied unattended. It screams gross mismanagement. Specifically. two of the rooms were veritable pig styes. mostly a byproduct of their local folks with patent alcoholism. 🍸 🍷 🍸 🍷 It warrants mentioning it's not HOSTEL INTERNATIONAL, where the aforementioned event's/conditions don't exist. Then their's the issue of questionable/impugnable employee's with borderline personality disorder and relatedly substance abuse, accounting for their behavior. This is just a snippet of opprobrium. I could cite too many to enumerate. CHAPTER, VOLUME. VERSE............. Bunk Drunk & Brew Club. No misnomer/ hyperbole here.
- Alexander (9/5): -
- Jocelyn (8/5): Great! - Great location. I personally liked the kind of frat house type vibe that they had going on inside. Good price ! Smelled like weed when I walked in. My room also smelled like a men’s locker room.
- David (7/5): Sleep only, no ther services needed. - I did nothing but sleep there...in a room with others in a bunk bed. I did not expect comfort or privacy for the prive I paid.
- Matthew (10/5): -
- Yvonne (9/5): -
- Russell (6/5): I would not. - Not much. Bund house has dozens of residents, one interior bathroom (all other bathrooms are fifty meters away across gravel paths), common area in bunkhouse seats three, other common area (sixty meters away) has a tv room dominated by gamers. It is nowhere near anything.
- Agatha (6/5): -
- Cheryll (4/5): nope - This place could be much nicer with some love. Great ideas of cozy community rooms, outdoor firepit, food carts, and a kitchen with some shareable staples provided. Lots of lockers, although they were tight on space. Immediately I was concerned as the desk person started sneezing, coughing, etc while helping check me in. I ended up sick. :( The whole place could use a deep-clean, especially my room. I chose the female bunk space which turned out to be in a separate building (annex), which was kind of a pain going back and forth using access codes for each building (which were changed while there) plus the room. At least it shows they care about security. The tiny kitchen space in the Annex was dirty and didn't make me feel like cooking, so I made the repeated trek to the main building to use that kitchen. It was larger, although sometimes too crowded to use, and somewhat cleaner, as someone could be seen frequently wiping down the counters. The bathroom also needed some cleaning. But the worst was the bunk room. Not at all like the pics online. It had stained, dirty carpet that looked to be at least 50 years old and looked like it hadn't been cleaned since it was put in. At least the bed wasn't bad. The food carts advertised on their website were all closed while I was there, so what's the point of having them? It was full of the younger generation smoking pot, yelling foul language, and generally inconsiderate, although I did meet a couple of people it was nice to get to know a little bit. Now, before one may think that I may be picky, I just returned from a trip to Japan where their hostels were amazing. Super clean (no shoes allowed), cozy beds, lack of noise, kind hosts. It can be done with some care.

- Andrea (8/5): Clean, a classic hostel - Clean, classic hostel
- Hieu (5/5): The property does not look as great as the photos. Disgustingly smelly unventilated room. - Surroundings are fresh and good. Friendly staff.
Near Pilot Butte, a very beautiful view to the town. No room ventilation. Room smell is disgusting. I applied smell eliminator on my clothes and near my nose, trying to put myself into sleep to not smell anymore. I tried not go to bed as much as I could and woke up early to get out of the room at very early following morning. No light so I did not know how the room look. That night seems lasting a century.
Low room price does not mean low air quality and low ventilation.
- Preston (8/5): Very pleasant - Very comfortable, and peaceful I was charged twice for my stay
- valeria (8/5): -
- Madeline (8/5): -
- Sabine (9/5): -
- Nicholas (7/5): Good spot for a short stay in Bend—budget-friendly, positive vibes, and easy enough for a quick stop - The location was perfect—right in the city center and easy to get around on foot. The staff were friendly and the overall atmosphere felt positive. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable, just what I needed for a short stay. Cool energy, but definitely more “Shaggy from Scooby-Doo” than boutique hostel. Fun for the right crowd, but maybe I’ve aged out of that scene a bit. Wi-Fi didn’t seem to be free, cell service was poor, and the multiple access codes instead of a key were a bit of a pain—especially with no 24-hour reception.
- Lukas (7/5): Cool place, but too expensive for what you get. - Staff is very friendly and the place itself is quite cool. I really enjoyed having a food truck pod on the premises and it was a good base for a concert. It was very expensive for a hostel, and the bed in our private room was not very high quality.
- Frank (10/5): Great stop at my roadtrip - Really the best place it could have been. Such a welcoming and friendly crew. Great services, where else does a hostel have a sauna? The on site Mexican food place was great as well. This was a great spot to stay during my road trip. Nothing, everything was arranged really well.
- Adam (10/5): - Such a relaxed place. Great location, nice amenities, staff is great
- Henry (2/5): - Unbelievably gross. Hairballs in the provided towels, uncleaned common showers, dirty sheets on the bed. Right next to the highway.
- Mary (2/5): - I called to cancel
This reservation immediately when I arrived. This place should
Not be listed on Expedia, it is not a safe place to stay.
- Christian (10/5): Ridiculously Good Value - I booked this place for the price and didn't look at many details. The free sauna, great staff, and awesome showers made this such great value. I got to do laundry and cook in a kitchen, it was great (I've been camping).
- Andy (7/5): Nice place awful bed - Staff and the overall vibe was great Bed 🙈 like sleeping on a bag of broken bricks 😳
Oh, and the fridge in the anxe needs emptying
- arambul (10/5): -
- Nico (8/5): -
- Moleta (10/5): -
- Jonathan (9/5): -
- Jason (8/5): - Nice people and community. Charming facilities.
- Harman (1/5): - They left me stranded at 1 am because they failed to send me the check in information
- RAUL (7/5): - The hostel has a very chill vibe, which is great if you’re looking for a social and laid-back experience. It’s not a standard chain hotel, so you get to meet all kinds of people, and that mix of personalities can be fun and interesting. The location is also excellent, which makes it convenient for exploring the city. Since it’s a shared space, things can get a bit messy and noisy depending on the other guests. It lacked some cleanliness compared to what you’d expect at this price point. For a hostel, it felt a bit expensive, and aside from the location, I didn’t see much reason for the higher cost.
- Karen (8/5): - Nice staff, cool vibe. I paid for a private room. Clean room and clean bathroom considering its a hostel. Access to clean towels would have been better rather than having to go and look for the.
- Lance (1/5): The property is running a scam described above, and arrests should be made. - The booking web pages were misleading in that they did not disclose that the facility was for women only, and I am a man. The reception person was cold and rude. He was not supposed to run my $81 charge until I showed up, but he ran it beforehand, along with an additional charge of $77 which I found out only after calling my credit card company. He told me I had to call Booking.com to get a refund, but Booking.com said the property had to make the refund. When I informed the reception person of this fact, he readily told me he had authorized the refund. It seems like you are running a scam to lure men into bookings, then making it extremely difficult to back out, hoping they walk away because it’s too much of a hassle to get out of it. See above
- Rose (8/5): - Very laid-back
- Connie (8/5): Very good - Location, food, music, friendly staff, atmosphere...all excellent Bathrooms could use more attention (stopped up sink in annex, no TP in bath house room. Bunks need to be tightened occasionally so they don't move and squeak so much. A small shelf for phone, glasses, etc at bunk would be nice.
- Catherine (7/5): Good -
- Gamaal (9/5): Very nice place to stay - The amenities. I liked the fact that there was multiple showers, a sauna and the location of the hostel overall was in a great area. Only the fact that there was no hot water in ONE of the showers. The other 2 showers had hot water, so it worked out.
- Wang (8/5): Very good - Convenient location, friendly staff, respectful guests, rich amenities. I slept well most of time Limited restroom - there are multiple times I had to walk around looking for restroom. There is only one restroom in Annex house. Not fun having to run to Lucas house and then the bath house and every one is occupied (only 5)
My mattress is extremely squeaky. I could be just moving my arm to scratch my shoulder and the whole room will be notified of my movement.
- Milka (5/5): Great location, fun program, could be kept cleaner. - I like the concept. Food trucks in the back and music in the back and very close to downtown.
- Lyndsy (8/5): Very good -
- william (6/5): - The place itself is great. But and this is not something snyone can really do but when sleeping in a hostel environment and you snore loudly, it makes it very difficult for others. It would be good for the property to not leave other guests to deal with it. I couldn’t sleep in the room I paid for and slept in my car instead. Otherwise the property is great. You get vibe, with good trucks and drink choices.
- Caty (7/5): Fun vibes but old and dingy facilities - The backyard area and food carts were very cool. The staff was very nice The facilities were dingy and sort of dirty.
- Claire (9/5): This place has it all, amazing atmosphere ✨ - Great atmosphere, food trucks in the garden, sauna, comfy beds, fully equipped kitchen, wonderful staff, great location… this place is a gem! I only stayed one night but wish I could have spent longer there. They have instruments too, lots of events, and seem to attract a wonderful crowd of both guests and volunteers. More bathrooms / toilets would be useful. The lockers in the rooms were too small for big backpacks.
- Christopher (7/5): Well worth staying here to discover Bend and meet fellow travellers - Excellent location and friendly staff. We were made to feel very welcome by Nix and Christine. The complementary beer was much appreciated. The food truck in the backyard serves tasty Mexican food. Bonus: taking a sauna in the bathhouse. The old house is very atmospheric, although some areas could do with renovating. Synthetic sheets and lack of personal lighting around the bunk beds.
- abe (10/5): - I loved the price! All I needed was a bed but also really enjoyed the fire and hearing music with folks milling about in a relaxed setting. The free beer was another perk way above and beyond anything expected.
- Quincy (7/5): Good -
- Siva (10/5): Exceptional -
- Evan (8/5): - Great for what I needed it for. The beds were not nearly as comfortable as the Portland Kex, but I got a free beer “token”.
- J (1/5): Bad - Did not even stay. This place is so dingy and gross and the room smelled so bad, we didn't even stay
- Daron (8/5): Very good - Great energy from staff and communal areas to hang out. I love the location, so easy to walk all over downtown Bend.
- William (10/5): Triple platinum - It was an excellent experience at the Bunk and Brew, stayed for two nights, the rooms with the double beds are very exquisite and the beds are delectably comfortable, the kitchen is very nice and has all the appliances to suit your visit, the patio area is a very nice communal area, they have a sauna and shower facility as well as laundry included, they have food trucks on site, the location is absolutely prime considering your about a 5 minute walk from downtown Bend. As far as my concern goes nothing
- Debra (10/5): Great place overall - This place was great for the price it had a friendly atmosphere great food trucks available and plenty to do everyone was so welcoming and nice you’ll love it here !
- Rafael (8/5): Very good - The food and drink options near the Hostel are amazing. It's also a really short walk from Downtown. The folks staying there were really nice, and there was always something to do. It's a Hostel, so as always expect to need earplugs, and maybe an eye mask.
- Kent (8/5): Very good -
- Jennifer (7/5): Good -
- James (8/5): Very good - Loved the easy going staff, and open atmosphere.
- Susan (10/5): - I like it has so much outdoor area to be in and the choices of food with the food trucks. Walkable to downtown and very low-key and casual.
- Kent (8/5): Very good -
- Brandon (5/5): On 2/24, staff invited friends for a birthday party and it was SO loud past midnight >:( - Good pricing, free drink with stay which is great. Staff disrespecting quiet time, kitchen and amenities were being used by staff and their friends.
- Dylan (9/5): Good experience, if you are looking for a good friendly hostel, this one is. And a good sauna !!! - Great staff, easy to talk to, made me feel safe and secure, friendly atmosphere and fantastic sauna. Also location is right by a lot of fun shops/cafés and entertainment values!!
- Amber (8/5): Very good - Location, parking, friendly staff, very clean sauna, what you expect with a hostel. Shower in house was dirtier and had lots of people's items in it but everything else felt clean.
- Brandon (7/5): Good -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Theresa (6/5): Very unclean but fine if you are ballin on a budget and don’t mind. - Fun atmosphere, staff is very friendly. Common house is quite cozy and cute. Everyone is very young so if you’re young this is a good fit No bed bug cover on the mattresses, fridge is unclean, bathrooms are unclean and gross, generally very unclean. The place really needs to apply bed bug covers on the mattresses.
- Julia (7/5): Inexpensive hostel captures the Bend vibe - Convenient location. Conveyed the “funky” Bend reputation. As a hostel, there were a lot of people in a small space and sharing a bathroom, but it was clean, remarkably quiet. And tall seemed to work. The price was unbeatable, and it was much more interesting than a standard inexpensive motel. More than the ideal number of people sharing a single bathroom. If anyone had been sick, it could have been a disaster.
- Sarah (1/5): Bad - Nothing It was the worst place to stay. Disgusting and filthy. Don't waste your money.
- Devis (4/5): Disappointing -
- Michael (6/5): Straight Up Youth Hostel - I should’ve known better. But, the website makes it look better than it is. All in all, it wasn’t a bad experience. But this is a youth hostel. Bunch of 20 something’s staying long term. Kids were nice enough and the price was right, but if you’re over 30……you might pick a different spot. My bad for not doing more research.
- John (10/5): - Good people to hang out with
- Immel (9/5): Great community hostel, will be back for a longer stay solo. - Friendly staff and a cool environment. If you're a solo traveler or staying for a while, this hostel seems to have a great community. Amenities like nightly "events" and sauna are nice too. Check in took a little while, but I assume that's mostly from the staff being new (staff at hostels rotate often)
- Camila (7/5): Good -
- Flavia (10/5): Super central and friendly hostel, I'd come back! - It was a very welcoming and friendly place. The kitchen is very well equipped and there's a lot of common hangout areas. They had free live music on Friday night which was very fun! The heating was WAY too hot. Even after asking if it could be turned down, we had to keep the windows open AND the fan on the whole time, which seemed a bit ridiculous.
- Jacob (4/5): - Is a good experience to check out the property. However, could be a little cleaner in a little less noise After 10 PM
- David (10/5): Sociable Hostel in beautiful historical house with food truck and fun events on site. - Very comfortable bed, clean bathrooms, and robust facilties. Very accommodating place to stay while traveling for work, having most of the amenities of being home, i.e., kitchen, workspace, etc. The staff is very friendly. A very sociable environment all around, with awesome foot trucks and community events onsite. It is a really amazing institution and historical site very close to downtown Bend.
- Laurel (2/5): Very poor - This place was filthy and unsanitary. I felt like I was back inside a frat house. A pot of chili left out on the stove for 24+ hours, dirty dishes everywhere, trash scattered about inside. Not insulated at all and you can hear everything outside and inside. The staff was indifferent and not helpful- I asked the guy for 2 hangers (my closet had none) and never saw him or the hangers again. I asked someone else for a towel and she told me “there’s some in the (shared) bathroom. If it’s folded that should mean it’s probably clean”- EW. Same with blankets- asked for a blanket and was told to “there’s some in the community living room or you grab whatever I see lying around”
Very unsanitary. The fridge was packed to the brim despite not many people staying there and clearly hasn’t been cleaned out in a long time.
The one good thing was the bed was comfy.
- Petić (8/5): Very good - The crew was the best! A lot of different young people, very kind and always happy to help. Every night there was a different event, I went to open mic night and saw bunch of amazing performers.
They also cook lunch every day and you are free to eat.
Wifi was perfect, as well as the location of the hostel. The only bad thing was that none of the rooms have bathrooms, and on the whole floor with 5 rooms there was only one bathroom, with one toilet and a shower. If it was occupied, there was one upstairs, and three showers in another building, which is not very practical.
- Melinda (1/5): Stay here if you want no sleep, or want to party. - Good location, quirky, fun with music in outdoor beer garden Either no staff at night or they were participating in the all night indoor partying with screaming, loud music, people whi weren’t guests there included. Unbelievable, unable to sleep at all until ended at 330 am. Horrible experience.
- Jarred (4/5): With numerous renovations this could be a good place to stay. Excellent location but far too expensive for the accommoda - Location The room was tight and stuffy with VERY old carpeting. The expense and pictures did not match the reality of the property.
- Robin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tyler and Kristi (10/5): - The whole hostel feel with a beer truck, as well as a couple of other food trucks, on the property.
- Tyler (10/5): Nice - The guys were awesome -- their hospitality went above and beyond expectations.
- Karmen (6/5): - Good food truck energy and lovely music performers! Inside, rather dirty and needs lots of love pertaining to room conditions, etc, tho would not be too hard or costly to update!
- David (10/5): Great vibe and chill folks - Great vibe and chill people
- Karla (6/5): - I blame myself for not researching the rooms at Bunk and Brew more thoroughly.
Bunk and Brew seems like a happening and friendly place for travelers looking for a cheap, communal experience. We were looking for a downtown stay (we are local and we’re looking for a short staycation). Bunk and Brew was the least expensive downtown choice (still it cost 189.00 per night) we selected a private room, not realizing the bathroom was shared :(
To summarize: Great youth hostel, not-so- great for older people hotel.
- Wilburn (8/5): Easy peasey - guest engagement
- Adam (8/5): Immaculate vibes, great community, reputable establishment. - Free beer token was an excellent perk. Staff and other guests were friendly. I enjoyed a variety of good conversation. The hot water knob in my building’s shower was missing. I had to come up with a creative solution when I was expecting a zero effort shower experience.
- Mihaela (7/5): Good - location, cheap,
- Mary (8/5): Very good -
- Lori (10/5): Exceptional - Very fun place to stay. People from all over the world were there. Food trucks are amazing. And the staff was amazing. All of it!!!!
- Ronan (8/5): High desert vibes! - Beautiful old building, comfortable, filled with good people and good music. Very enjoyable.
