Guest Reviews
- Peter (6/5): Not worth the money - Food excellent, accommodation not worth what we paid for a couple on a two night stay. No hot water. Infact turned hotvtap on and nothing came out. Had to go down 3 flights of stairs to report. Bedroom very cramped and the bed was literally on the floor. Very basic room. Bar area and staff great.
- Heather (10/5): - Lovely clean room - perfect. Staff were super friendly. Vegetarian breakfast was amazing - we'll definitely come back. Thank you!
- Meg (10/5): Gem of a hotel - Really lovely people and great service. Food was amazing and plentiful
- Anne (8/5): - Beautiful location, lovely food. We had an attic room with a small window which was roasting, so I would avoid that. Good value, would stay again.
- Judith (10/5): - I have rarely used exceptional to review a hotel but the Kames was. We travelled here from New Zealand on holiday and we only had one night but it was exceptional.
The restaurant menu is top class, the range on the menu was great and seriously 10/10. I had locally free dived seared scallops from the loch, I had the slow roasted goat shank with lentils - exceptional, and we shared a lemon tart with fresh berries. I loved the Kames and I seriously recommend both the hotel and the restaurant.
That is my honest feedback, Thanks, Phil.
- Karen (10/5): - The Kames hotel is in fabulous location overlooking Bute and a great base for exploring. We spent a week here and still so much to see. The hotel is lovely blend of old and modern - rooms were spotlessly clean, comfortable and well furnished. We are each night in the restaurant and enjoyed great variety of delicious meals . The owner and staff are warm, welcoming and friendly. Our dog was made welcome too!
- Norris (10/5): - Fantastic location. Parking is on quiet road outside hotel. It is limited when hotel is busy...
- Erin (10/5): - Our stay was absolutely perfect, the hotel was lovely and the staff were absolutely superb, I especially loved watching the chickens outside in the garden. It was that lovely we are heading back in July.
- Ian (10/5): - Fantastic hotel, quiet, had a room overlooking the loch. Lovely walks in the area. Hosts were amazing, Irene and Scott plus others. Food was brilliant. We met some lovely people and made new friends. It was quite perfect for our first break away at Christmastime. Hope to be back in 2025. A big thank you to all. Ian and Caroline
- Donna (8/5): - We had a great couple of days. Very comfortable. The staff were very friendly & the food was delicious.
- ian (8/5): - Nice base to explore the area. Nice comfy bed and good breakfast
- Cheryl (10/5): - We had a lovely 2 night stsy at Kames Hotel. The scenery/ views are stunning and the water was cristal clear which allowed us a dip in the water.
The choice at breakfast was excellent and we also had food in restaurant at night which we also would not fault.
To say it us dog friendly is an understatement and would highly recommend.
- Stuart (10/5): A Hidden Gem! - Fantastic stay with awesome hospitality and fantastic food! Well worth a visit with stunning views over to Bute!
- Morag (10/5): - We were marooned in the Kames Hotel when excessive rain, flooding and landslides closed all the roads out. We could not manage to get to the wedding we had come to attend (neither could the celebrant, hairdresser, makeup artiste..) but we sat in all our finery with glass in hand beside a roaring log fire in the guest sitting room and thoroughly enjoyed the Google Meet wedding of the year !
Great food, company and staff who did all they could to make our stay comfortable.
- Frances (10/5): Worth a visit - Beautiful room with sea view, very clean, friendly staff, plenty choice at breakfast.
- Joe (10/5): Another Night Away - A Gem in Scotland. Can’t say more.
The meal was excellent, my starter of mussels was normally what is served as a main down south.
- Serge (10/5): - Perfect eten, vriendelijk personeel, mooie locatie, aardig voor onze hond. Een aanrader
- Keith J (8/5): Stunning place - Its a realy nice hotel just a few little things let it down, breakfast was ok but could be better.
The hotel looked to have a staff shortage and they seemed to be a bit stretched, the evening meals were very good.
The staff forgot to make the bed one day but i suppose that is down to lack of staff. The shower in our room was nearly impossible to use it was either scalding hot or freezing cold nothing in between. The staff were very friendly which made the few problems easier to overlook.
- MARTIN (10/5): Kames - Have stayed many times before as you are always guaranteed a warm welcome . Excellent service, tasty food and gorgeous location. Nothing not to like .
- Ann (8/5): - Lovely setting overlooking the sea and the Isle of Bute. Nice bar and friendly staff. Although we knew our room was a 'small', we weren't prepared for the fact that there was a cam ceiling and we could scarcely stand up on it. Suffered a few bumped heads🤕
- Verified traveler (8/5): Happy with stay - Hotel very clean, lovely decor, staff very friendly, however our room wasn’t the best with sloped ceiling, also shower tube didn’t hang up so bit awkward trying to use bath & wash hair! Breakfast was ok, can’t comment on Evening meals as we didn’t eat in.
- Ian (10/5): Friendly hotel in quiet picturesque town - Awesome, friendly staff and beautiful town. Heated bathroom floor was a really nice touch. Bedding did not look very clean though, and no body soap was provided, but the rest of the experience overshadowed this for me.
- martine (8/5): - Hotel confortable super petit dejeuner copieux et excellent
Restaurant cher et qualité moyenne
- JOHN (10/5): - Friendly efficient service and goodquality food
- Nigel (10/5): We came back for good reason - Just fabulous again
Ohh the salmon and prawn linguine
We will be back again again
- William (10/5): Beautiful hotel - Beautiful hotel and idyllic location .
A few minor maintenance and housekeeping issues could be improved to bring this hotel the high credit rating it deserves.
The staff were friendly and helpful and our stay was most enjoyable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great place - It was OK, food was great but expensive.
Well everything was extremely overpriced, and it was very warm, like the heating was on constantly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Wedding break - Nice comfortable stay with a good breakfast - excellent food
- Elaine (8/5): - Lovely hotel, pleasant staff, great location, room 7 attic room with coomed ceilings, kept bumping our heads
- Verified traveler (8/5): Peaceful stay apart from the background music - Lovely location, friendly staff, nice peaceful stay. Generous portions of tasty food for evening meal. Only downside is loud background music at breakfast which detracts significantly from the relaxed atmosphere- it’s unclear why this has to be on
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very beautiful location and extremely friendly staff - food was delicious and locally resourced.
- Nigel (10/5): Location Location Location - Just an amazing location, the staff were all brilliant.
Food is first class and the view, wow.
We will be going back at the first opportunity
- Steven (10/5): Great hotel - Lovely hotel with fantastic views over the loch. Nice place for a drink outside. Great food.
- RK (10/5): Very relaxing and enjoyable - wonderful setting - Kames hotel is a great place with a relaxed and comfortable feel and good quality, locally sourced food and drink. The setting and views are the stand-out features and the the hotel is perfect for such a serene and beautiful spot alongside the Kyles of Bute.
- Garry (10/5): Great Hotel And Location - Amazing location and great hotel. Room was very new and hotel had fresh decor throughout will definitely be back. Big thank you to Irene and her husband.
- Kiril (10/5): - Fantastic hotel in a beautiful and quiet setting. Staff were very friendly and helpful ! Would come back in a heartbeat!
- David (8/5): Great location and food - Great location and good food, especially the seafood. If you’re tall be careful to avoid the sloping ceilings in the rooms on the top floor.
- William (10/5): Hogmanay Stay - Irene and her staff made the stay, nothing was ever too much trouble for them. Great location, food was excellent. We'll be back
- Martin (8/5): - All good
- Bartholomew (8/5): Good small cute hotel - Lovely small hotel and cute rooms the staff wear very helpful and happy to help.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Super Lage, nette Leute und leckeres FrĂĽhstĂĽck.
Abendessen im Restaurant war auch sehr gut
- Verified traveler (10/5): - On-site parking would have made the place perfect. There is no lift, so mobility/accessibility is not ideal. Allowing for those things, we loved this place, and would be happy to recommend to others, and return ourselves.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The hotel was closed when we arrived and was being decorated, we were the only people there so we left.
- Rona (10/5): - It was just great... staff are friendly and efficient
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely hotel, Beautiful views, great food - lovely hotel, great experience. Clean, recently modernised, you will not be disappointed
- Sarah (6/5): Cold room.....brrr!! - We have stayed at this hotel many times. It is in a gorgeous location but our weekend away was not great. The hotel is being refurbished (a rug doctor machine was left outside our room) and the bedroom was freezing.... it was so cold we struggled to sleep. We paid ÂŁ140 for one night (that included ÂŁ10 for our dog). When we explained how cold it was the next morning, a man did ask 'why did you not tell us?'. There are no phones in the room so we would have had to go down stairs and ring a bell to wake someone up. This did not sound appealing. As it was off season, work being done on the hotel and the temp of the room it did not feel worth it. It has put us off returning.
