• cplsctn (6/5): "It must be us" - Not what we expected, or shall I say, our usual type of hotel. In fact quite unusual, however very quaint and had it's own type of charm. On entering our room (Suite Miroir d'Eau) there was an extremely long hallway, which led to a very small bathroom with a lack of shelving (no where to put toiletries, etc), then onto an alcove kitchenette (there was a coffee machine, a big +++) and our bedroom (which had a table and 2 small plastic chairs), and a nice big TV with NO English speaking channels (courtesy of the management). seriously what hotel doesn't accommodate English speaking guests. Sadly it seems to be quite prevalent in France. Breakfast was included in the cost (not optional) but served in the room, our bedroom, which I found quite distasteful. I understand the other suites had a separate eating area, which would have been much better. Actually a dining area downstairs, would have been most favorable. Breakfast consisted of a selection of breads, juice and if you wanted anything extra or different, you paid an additional cost, not good value at all. The coffee machine in the room made better coffee than what was served with breakfast. The pluses: all the staff were friendly, helpful, nothing was too much trouble and the location was excellent, walking distance to everything: restaurants, markets, cathedrals. However, as I said, 'it must be us'

• David (6/5): - Not worth it. Nice enough for an average hotel. No comparison with 3 or 4 star hotels. Not well li; no special things given the price. Also Uber drivers have great difficulty finding the place.

• Simonscapes (6/5): A Curates Egg - Good in Parts - Central location, very quiet ,a comfortable bed and pillows , and friendly and helpful staff were the positives. On the not so positive the main light in the bathroom didn’t work, the shower door was warped so it didn’t close properly , the selection of teas extremely limited with no milk and for the facilities on offer it was quite expensive. However the experience which spoilt it for us was their 24 euros a head breakfast. This is an optional extra so if you don’t have it maybe your experience will not be spoilt! This breakfast consisted of small burnt croissants and chocoltines (pain au chocolate) , a very small bowl of mixed fruit, one small cup of frothy, thin and tasteless machine coffee and some bread. What really upset me was that when I asked for some fresh croissants and chocolatines the member of staff asked me whether I has tried them, as if to say that they might taste ok after all ! Clearly I hadn’t tried them, why would I even try to eat carcinogenic food?

• 22101 (10/5): Charming hotel that has it all - This charming hotels has it all! The property is pristine. The beds, linens and products lovely. The shower and water pressure were most welcome. All staff members were friendly and most helpful! The neighborhood around the hotel is great. There are good restaurants, bars and shops moments away AND as the hotel is on a pedestrian street, there is no traffic noise. We would highly recommend a stay at the Hotel Cardinal Bordeaux to anyone anytime.

The staff was warm, friendly, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. During our three-night visit, we explored several wineries, and their front desk helped us arrange transportation for each outing, which made our trip so much more relaxing and enjoyable. Overall, it’s a simple but comfortable hotel that offers great value. The location is excellent—within easy walking distance to all the shops and restaurants.

The hotel was beautiful with excellent and attentive staff .They recommended great restaurants and things to see locally. Axel was very helpful and planned two days with private driver /sommelier for our wine tours at fabulous Chateau’s. Thomas was exceptional and we enjoyed spending time with him , very knowledgeable.Our suite at the hotel was gorgeous,spacious and luxurious ! We will be back to see you again .Au revoir for now ❤️🇫🇷
• M4019UCpaulm (10/5): Location, Location, Location - Hotel is an easy Tram ride from airport. Short walk down a quiet street admiring Bordeaux Cathedral brings you to the door. Ring the bell and door will magically open. From Check-in to Check-out, our stay was quite pleasant. Breakfast in the room is quite the experience. Hotel is centrally located, an easy walk to anywhere in Bordeaux, including parks, the river, and restaurants. Management is responsive to all requests/suggestions. Our stay was simply delightful.
• P2141PBkarenp (4/5): Very Disappointing "Hotel" - Very disappointing. While reading the other reviews I wonder if we were in the same hotel. Although their welcoming email offers to help book tours my three requests were never acknowledged. Very dark inside with no ammenities. The suite is very small, like a motel room with a kitchenette. AC was not cold enough. The only time we saw anyone at the front desk was when we checked in, however they did arrange for our taxi to the airport for us. The location is great, near the beautiful cathedral and very walkable to restaurants.

• 217rjp (10/5): Great Location and Wonderful Staff - The Hotel Cardinal is a fantastic gem in Bordeaux! The location is excellent- we were able to walk to most sites, shops and restaurants. The rooms are so quiet and the beds so comfortable we were able to sleep well. The staff is impeccable! They were so helpful for anything we needed and made great restaurant recommendations. We truly enjoyed our stay!

Right next to the beautiful and peaceful square surrounding Cathédrale Saint-André de Bordeaux, and just a few blocks from the busier shopping streets. The staff was the best part, everyone was amazing.
• Rose (8/5): Great location, friendly staff and comfortable. - Really great location for the hotel, we arrived at night so wasn’t the easiest to find straight away. Easy to get to everywhere either on tram or walking, great food locally. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful, we were unsure whether the hotel had a restaurant as we were never told about it asked so maybe they didn’t. However we forgot our plug converters and the staff were able to lend us two plugs which was excellent. The room was lovely, not a great view out of the window, looking directly at another wall but it was nice. The only thing we thought was that the bed was made for us but not changed, we understand for the environment bedding but not be changed everyday however staying 5 days for the cost we paid the bedding should have been changed, especially the pillows. Having said that we would stay again at the hotel and we would highly recommend it for location, friendliness of staff and comfort.

The staff was wonderful, the location is hard to beat and the room was excellent! They took great care in making sure our stay was memorable. We would definitely recommend this hotel when traveling to Bordeaux!

• Alfonso (2/5): - Freezing room with unproper heating system. Front desk was supposed to be staffed until 7pm, nobody there after 2 pm. Calls to the number provided and messages to the whatsapp contact provided by the property were never answered. You need to have the basics covered if you want to be a hotel, let alone a "boutique" hotel. Avoid like the plague.

Great decor, comfortable beds, great amenities (Clarins), I smelt like I was stepping out of a spa everyday. This is not a full service hotel, but the team at Hotel Cardinal go out of their way to ensure your stay is comfortable and nothing was left wanting with this beautiful hotel. I would definitely recommend.

• 73edl (10/5): Convenient location, pleasant stay - We stayed at the Hotel Cardinal for several nights during our visit to Bordeaux. It is conveniently located on a quiet street near a historic cathedral and walking distance to numerous restaurants, shopping streets, and public transit. Our room had a small kitchen with induction top, microwave, and refrigerator. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful with advice and directions. We did order their breakfast a couple of times, and it was quite good. We had a pleasant stay and would definitely recommend.

• Bambi Lynn (10/5): - This is a special property. High end boutique, personalized concierge service 24/7. Quiet property that is an oasis after walking around Bordeaux with lots of people in the streets. Rooms and suites are modernized and everything works. Really comfortable beds - I slept like a baby. Centrally located for easy access to transportation or walking to all the sights. The only suggestion I would have is for the hotel to put in a common area where one can relax outdoors with a bottle of wine. Otherwise, everything was great. I highly recommend this hotel.
• Z5332KOjohnd (10/5): Elegance - Situated by cathedral but in a pedestrianized area, situation very good for walking into the main shopping centers of Bordeaux. It is a very elegant hotel which exudes style however its not full service doesn't have a bar or restaurant but that's fine as you can order food platters and drinks through room service, and not 50 yards away are bars and restaurants aplenty. Room was well styled and spacious , with little kitchen inc coffee machine and kettle. We ordered breakfasts , although £20 each, they were tasty and enormous, beautifully presented The staff were absolutely charming , and were very helpful. Thoroughly professional

• Gemma (8/5): Good location, well styled, friendly staff - Staff were accommodating, although the local knowledge lacked when we were advised to leave the city centre for our restaurant reservations (it was actually a 10min walk from the hotel). The bathroom was small, and requires some maintenance particularly around the shower seals. The room we were allocated had no option for privacy when setting up for breakfast which was an uncomfortable ‘dance’ between us and the staff. The room itself is well styled, clean, and with aircon. The hotel is well located.
• gary (2/5): - We booked expecting a higher end boutique based on the cost. The hotel does not live up to expectations and is not a good value. I’ll offer the highlights: our room was located next to a public bathroom. Walls are thin if you understand me. There is a public courtyard that looks directly into our room. No privacy. The extra bed for my daughter was an old pull out couch. The mattress was one you would never sleep on at home. One final comical highlight…the door doesn’t lock when closed. The front desk showed us a magic trick to hold the handle and key in a certain way to get the door to lock. I never figured it out….my daughter got the hang of it eventually. Safe to say….not a good value.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful boutique hotel! - Charming converted hotel. Great service. Breakfast is served in your suite which is really convenient and adds a touch of luxury to the service. Its a boutique hotel so possesses a charm not found in chain hotels.
• semi (2/5): - The property has absolutely no parking available not even to check in. Public parking is far and hard to reach specially with luggage. The hotel smelled strongly like sewer lines and if there were issues we were not informed in advance so we can book anotjer hotel . We had to sleep with all the windows open, even so the smell was very bad, and its very very noisy at nigh. The floors are very uneven, and the rooms are so small you can barely walk around. If it was listed less stars i would understand but at the price level and stars advertised its completely unacceptable.

• JANA (10/5): - This is a lovely hotel with wonderful staff. The configuration of the suite is well thought out. The bed is very comfortable. The location is great; you can walk so many places and both the A and B tram lines have stops within minutes. We stayed for a week; husband said it would be a great hotel to use as a long term residence. The only drawback was the lighting, as we prefer brighter rooms. We would absolutely stay again.

• Beth (8/5): - I feel mixed about posting this review I found this hotel very beautiful, but we did have some questions about it. There were three of us in our party, and we had to pay a supplement for our third person, though it felt as if the towels and the water and minimum amenities only supported or approached the two guests, additionally there’s not a lobby in the hotel. So it is hard to find a place of repose We felt some of the staff worked hard to be accommodating to us as we did have an extra travel day so other seemed a little colder and it is a lovely facility and a beautiful location, but I also felt it wasn’t as welcoming as other places have been on our trip. - not as warm and inviting -

Would like ideally a little bar or area to sit that’s wasn’t just in your room for the breakfast but plenty of space around the room. Nice toiletries also. Room was lovely but the curtain was slightly unattached at the top so didn’t work as fully blackout. Location is great if you want to walk around this area and it feels safe especially for solo guests.
• kieran (10/5): Really lovely stay at the Cardinal! - Great stay at this hotel. Well located in a quiet street but close to centre so perfect for walking and tram. Super friendly staff who suggested some nice restaurants for us. Our room over-looked the small internal courtyard and had limited natural light so we had to put the lights on for breakfast even though weather was sunny outside. We also had no option but to eat our breakfast in our room which didn’t have any views. The same breakfast is served every morning including coffee, pastries, fruit and fresh baguette. Was fresh and to a high standard but would have liked more variety e.g. yoghurt, granola, eggs. Loved the Clarins toiletries and the tasty treats that were left in our room for us to enjoy when we arrived back at the hotel after a day of walking and sightseeing.
• CARLOS (10/5): - We stayed in this hotel on a family trip. We got a really nice room with a little kitchenette and a small fridge, it was really nice. Staff was great and welcoming, they don’t have a restaurant inside the hotel, they serve you breakfast inside of your room which has a table and a nice space to eat or in a little beautiful terrace, which is shared by two rooms. It is a beautiful property really well located right in the middle of everything, you can walk or ride a bike to almost any attraction in Bordeaux.

• Kathleen (10/5): Jewel of Bordeaux, FR - THE most e visited hotel ever. Supreme hospitality rarely seen, certainly in the United States. All rooms are suites with gorgeous furnishings, high ceilings, excellent linen and towels. White tablecloth breakfast served in your room. Very eco friendly and the staff amazing. Best ever experience!!!!

When we got a flat tire on our last day and really needed help with getting in touch with the appropriate parties for assistance, the ladies at the front desk were extremely helpful - we could not thank them enough. The lady who was there onsite during our 2 day stay provides the kind of service that makes one hotel stand out from another. Thank you for a great stay.

• Celines (10/5): Wonderful stay! - We had a lovely stay at Cardinal Hotel and only wish we had booked an additional night in the city. Since our arrival, we were warmly greeted at the reception and received recommendations on a place for lunch while our room was ready - the meal was delicious. We had a really spacious and comfortable room with all the necessary amenities including very nice luxury bath products from Clarins, bathrobes, and complimentary water and coffee. They also booked us dinner reservations at a great restaurant, which had amazing food. We opted for the in room breakfast, which we highly recommend. Not only was it a great quality but it’s also so nice about waking up to a beautifully served breakfast in the room. It was the perfect touch. We had a great night’s sleep and room was really quiet and perfect to relax, despite its centric location a few steps from the Bordeaux Cathedral and all the great shopping and restaurants the city has to offer. We highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again in a future visit.
• EDWARD (10/5): - The manager Alex was amazingly helpful making reservations for us at excellent restaurants and Pauline at reception was extremely friendly and assisting us in other areas of our travel, even picking fine wines for us from their extensive cellar.

• KAREN (10/5): - We totally enjoyed our 3 night stay here. Outside our room was a very nice patio area, which we enjoyed. Morning French breakfast was lovely. Access to the tram was just a short walk around the corner. Restaurants were in the square nearby as well as stores. All the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Pauline was wonderful. The suite was of generous size. If we ever come back to Bordeaux again we will definitely stay here again. Will be recommending it to our friends. For some reason the dates are incorrect. We checked out on July 14.
• Amanda-Abundio (8/5): - The staff at this property went above and beyond to accommodate any requests we had. They were extremely personable and knowledgeable about everything in the area. The rooms are clean, quiet, and beautifully decorated. Our only complaint was the breakfast is not very appetizing. Was definitely expecting more. However, there are plenty of cafés and breakfast options in the area. Overall we had an amazing stay and would absolutely recommend.
• Timmy (10/5): Great Staff, Great Location, Chic Rooms. - Amazing staff hospitality and courteous. Each team member was polite and thoughtful - it really made a good stay. The decor and rooms were exactly what you expect from a modern boutique hotel. The small kitchenette was a great bonus. The location was close to city centre, but set in a small street so it was quiet when it was required. Will 100% recommend to stay.
• David (10/5): - First, the staff is outstanding. Friendly, energetic, helpful, welcoming. Second, the location is perfect -- almost everything is within easy walking distance. Third, the facility is immaculate, the room we had was beautiful and spacious. Very very pleased.
• Matthew (8/5): - Great location and the size of the suite. Comfortable beds and good working air conditioning. There is very very little area to congregate outside of your room. Some very strange design decisions, we had a suite that had 2 showers and sinks but a separate tiny toilet just as you enter the suite. So you had to almost keep the toilet room open to use it… Everyone at the front desk was very friendly.

With the most perfect recommendations for sights and dining to their assistance with reservations, they are an extremely profession and exceptional team! They went above and beyond with their chocolate treats at the end of the day and their handwritten notes left behind wishing us a pleasant sleep. The location is near the Cathédrale St-André and it has been perfect for walking to everything we’ve wanted to see. We are surrounded by wonderful restaurants and shops and you can't Ignore the beautiful history that surrounds us. A special thank you to Anthony, Celia and Alex for making our first trip to Bordeaux so memorable. We highly recommend this hotel and we will definitely be returning in the future.
