Guest Reviews
- Alec (8/5): - Location is a pub with a public car park 30 seconds up the road
- Tina (8/5): - Friendly staff. Fantastic breakfast. Lodging over a pub. Always a plus. Rustic but enjoyable.
- adam (6/5): Nice - Nice to return. Stayed in room 1
- brian (8/5): - Great little pub welcoming staff and patrons
- Michael (8/5): - Located in town
- Amy (8/5): - I travelled with my teenage son for a beach competition at Poppit Sands, it was a lovely comfortable room, good location for exploring Cardigan.
The staff and locals at The Red Lion were all so lovely and welcoming to us both, he enjoyed playing darts and pool with some of the regulars.
He is already keen to come back and we only left this morning
- CHRISTOPHER (10/5): - ALL GOOD , NO PROBLEMS AT ALL
GOOD BREAKFAST
- Martin (4/5): - Black mould all round shower. Pub customers leaving at approx 1am VERY NOISY
- Julie (10/5): - Lovely clean and comfortable room, staff and locals very friendly. Breakfast was amazing. Will definitely stay again.
- elizabeth (10/5): Great 2 night stay - Great place to stay. Very central to everything and friendly people
Room was spacious clean and comfortable
Enjoyed my stay
- Louise (10/5): - We had a lovely warm welcome, the red lion was very clean lots of beers & lager's to chose from.. The room was very clean, everything you needed was there plenty of tea and coffee on the plus side there was a mini fridge, king size bed all the toiletry you need.. the shower was a good size big shower head, made a real change not to have white towels we had a light grey made a huge difference.. The hosts were brilliant, didn’t need for anything. In the evening good entertainment in the pub, we went out local to have food at the priory cafe, which was excellent only a five minute walk away where we had, Sunday roast dinner with all the trimmings good size potions. Had a lovely walk around the castle, and surrounding area, everyone friendly.. the breakfast in the morning was excellent had plenty to choose from for starters toast cereal & yogurt and orange juice.. before having a full English very good portions, couldn’t eat it all.. and also had a pot of tea for two, a lot to have for breakfast included in the price.. free parking around the corner that was the old council parking, few yards from the red lion..
we will be differently coming back again..
- John (4/5): - The eating and cooking area was extremely poor and littered with items not related to the dining experience
- Barrie (10/5): Good value with modern rooms and nice pub - Couldn't really fault for the price paid. Modern and spotless. Good location for the town, and very friendly helpful staff. All good. Nice boozer too.
Public parking around the corner - and its free! Downside is its often full during the day - better to wait until after 5pm if you can. There are plenty of other parking options around the town.
All personal preference - but a later check out would have been nice; we are not 10am people!
- Ian (10/5): - The pub was a usual Saturday night crowd and fun. Don’t go if you don’t want to sleep in a room above a bar but things were quiet by 11:30. Lovely spot
- Angela (10/5): Red lioñ inn - Was greeted warmly, room was lovely, clean, had everything you need, large TV, kettle, all you needed for hot drinks, nice chocolate and shower gels, breakfast your absolutely spoiled for choice, the full English was amazing cooked by the lovely Debbie. All staff were helpful and cared that my stay was enjoyable, I would recommend a stay here for sure
- Lisa (2/5): - Horrible night, after telling us the pub shuts at 11pm and they had nothing on that night, we got back around 10pm to pumping music with people screeching along, that was so loud it shook the whole room. We thought it would stop at 11, it didn’t, so thought 12 was fair, but no, they carried on until 2am this morning followed by feral party revellers shouting and screeching outside until about 4am. It was an awful experience, and we considered driving home at 2am. The room was ok, clean and the shower was nice, but the total inconsideration from the Red Lion for their guests was unbelievable. They need to decide if they are a nightclub or a guesthouse, because this clearly doesn’t work. Would not recommend this guesthouse unless you want to party all night, but if you just want to have peace to sleep, then don’t stay here.
- Dave (10/5): - Room was very clean, fresh so was shower room.
Outside does not look much at all, the bar was noisy however so you got to the room that could be heard.
Could have done with heating on in the night a little chilly
Five Star Breakfast full english freshly cooked and plenty of food on it a very nice breakfast
- Verified traveler (4/5): Extremely Loud Music and Unable to Sleep - I’ve never left a review for a hotel before, and I am never typically one to complain. For restaurants I have only ever left positive reviews, and for negative experiences I have remained silent. This is the first negative review I have ever posted. I just want that to provide context, so that you are able to understand that this review is here to prevent you from making the same mistake as I did. This review is honest and fair.
To summarise and keep things short; the hotel was in a good location. The room was comfortable, and was good value for money if it had been their standard prices. However, I stayed during peak times, so you can expect prices to be higher. Staff were friendly on arrival, however were not present on checkout. I paid for breakfast to be included in my stay, and when asked what time it would be served, I was advised that the chef does not come in until the afternoon and there will be no breakfast. On top of this, there was music until midnight so loud I could hear every single lyric above my T.V. Reading other reviews, this music can carry on until the early hours of the morning and staff are unwilling to help. This was detrimental and the purpose of my stay was business and the reason I was away was to get up early the next day. I ever saw a review where a woman lived on the same street multiple doors down, and is kept up at night with this music. I am really disappointed with this visit and I want to warn others so that they can get sleep elsewhere.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Perfect for our overnight stay in Cardigan. The room was clean with comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Landlady very welcoming. Would certainly recommend and stay again.
- Antony (10/5): - It was very convenient and comfortable - lovely room
- Simon (8/5): Room good but no breakfast and no parking - The room was large, smart and clean. Fridge had a wierd fishy smell. For me, the pub noise stopped at 11pm so OK. Parking tight - some free 6pm-8am which may be all you need but otherwise public car park at £4.60 for 24hrs and 200m walk; no info provided. I was told at check-in that breakfast is not included in the Hotels.com rate and to find my own at a local cafe.
- Andrzej (10/5): Great. - In a good location, staff were friendly & helpful. Room was perfect for the money, comfortable bed, clean & a great shower. Breakfast in the morning was tasty & overall I enjoyed my stay.
Would recommend if your looking to stay for a couple nights.
- Farley (10/5): - Tried to stay another 4 nights for the same price as my first 4 nights was almost double the amount. Had to book a different location to be with in my budget. Great place to stay was very relaxing.
- Andrew (10/5): Nice pub stay. - Had a wonderful time at The Red Lion. Centrally located with modern comfortable rooms. Excellent free long stay parking 1 block away. Quiet rooms and clean.
- Robert (8/5): Good - Very nice but pub customers leaving at closing time were a bit noisey
- Amanda (8/5): Enjoyed my stay - I stayed at the Red Lion for 2 nights (Fri & Sat) in June. First, the pluses .... the pub is in an excellent position, a few mins walk from the town centre and the free car park is literally 2 mins walk away ... but very limited spaces so its a bit pot luck. I was greeted by a lovely young lady who showed me to my room ... I had room 1 which was really nice, large with a very nice bathroom and a small fridge which is always a bonus especially as it was very warm while I was there. I only had breakfast on one morning but it was lovely, cooked to order (same young lady, she is a gem) and very tasty. I have no complaints about my room or the service at all .... but .... the pub is obviously very popular and as they have a licence until 1am it was very loud ... although I did enjoy the music 😄. I was made aware of this when I booked so I cant really complain and it was worse because of the heat as I had to keep the windows open. Unfortunately this did impact my sleep but once the pub closed it was fine and the bed was super comfy. I would def stay again though and if you are planning on being out in the evenings it wont bother you that the pub is open until late. Overall I really enjoyed my stay and would def stay again but maybe next time it will be when its a bit cooler and I can keep the window closed 😄
- Duncan (8/5): - Lovely place only down fall was the noise in day time in room 4 of the air con running outside. No chance of having a afternoon sleep thankfully it went off at night
- Peter (10/5): Wonderful stay - Really enjoyed our stay lovely room staff very friendly all in all a great place we would definitely use again , we stayed for one night to go to a show in town but joined the locals for a pint on our return what a great night a very welcoming crowd thanks we loved it.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Good room but a loud, loud pub - The room is lovely, the bathroom feels quite new, and the location perfect for being in Cardigan. But it's a proper "inn", which means you're above the pub. It's not a quiet local, but has loud music until after midnight. You'll hear it. It's not so much an issue for me, as I was out until around midnight anyway. But if I needed to be to bed early or wanted a quiet night in, I'd have struggled. I'd not come with the family. More for a party spot to stay over.
- Matthew (10/5): - Center of town, friendly staff, breakfast included, parking 1 block away. And….its a room over a pub!! Perfect!
- Brian (10/5): Lovely pub - Brilliant pub close to all amenities, free parking and close to the river.
- Stuart (10/5): - Lovely place would recommend
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A little pub a short walk from the town part. Nice and peaceful. A free car park a short distance away along the river.
Twin room looked good until we realised there was no room to put our (small) cases down with causing a trip hazard. No hangers in wardrobe so hung our coats on the bed headboard. We had to ask for a remote control for the tv. Ample bathroom space.
Whilst passing other rooms the next day, they looked comfortably larger. Luck of the draw l suppose.
- Peter (10/5): - Excellent stay friendly staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic accommodation in Cardigan - We booked this at very short notice, as Storm Francis had put us off going ahead with our intended stay at a campsite near Tenby. This was pretty much the only hotel choice available in the whole of south west Wales. We found the place ok, but it was a bit of a maze finding out the best way to navigate the VERY narrow lanes to get to the nearest (free) car park. Apart from a dirty towel left in the wardrobe, and a view out of the window into a yard full of dog muck, the room was ok, and bed was comfortable. The pub downstairs doesn't serve dinner, and due to the latest Welsh Covid guidelines, you have to book a table in advance wherever you go. We hadn't done this, and couldn't get a table anywhere in town. We ended up with the nastiest Chinese takeaway we've ever had, and the hotel supplied us with plates and cutlery so we could take it to our room. The Red Lion was ok in the last minute circumstances, but massively overpriced, and probably not somewhere we would choose to stay in future.
- Carole (8/5): - Room was lovely modern and clean. Paid for breakfast but staff didn’t know we were having breakfast.
It is a pub and very noisy at closing time.
- David (8/5): Comfortable stay - Very comfortable
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very Nice area and Brilliant staff - food was good and would recommend for short stays
- N (8/5): - Very comfortable. Great lication. Staff was great. Clean and comfortable
- Elaine (10/5): - Very comfortable stay. Service 10/10. Breakfast
Location ideal
Amenities V. Good
Service excel
- Don (6/5): Stay at The Red Lion, Cardigan. - All good with the room. Newly refurbished to a good standard. Just a lot of bar noise into 2.30 in the morning. So didn’t get much sleep.
- Verified traveler (2/5): A pretty dreadfull experence all round - My stay was greately impeded by lack of sleep the room was directly above the cellar & the noise from chillers & fans was like there was an arctic lorry parked outsid with it's engine running all night. Added to which I found it virtually impossible to enjoy my breakfast as someone was washing the pub floor with a ton of bleach the smell of which was really toxic. The young lady was polite & friendly but didn't know what I meant when I asked for fresh coffee the only option was instant nescafe: horendous; I would never stay there again!
- diane (8/5): Friendly landlady and locals - Lovely welcoming and friendly place with modern rooms/ Comfy beds and tea, coffee biscuits supplied in room on first day. Sadly these were not replenished and clean cups not provided, nor were bins emptied etc for day two of stay.
Breakfast was very good and eggs poached to perfection. Parking is in a nearby car park, next to a river with ducks and swans that come right up to you.
Bit of a climb up the hill to town but better the climb up on the way out than on the way back.
If I was in the area again I would consider staying here again and would recommend as a 'good enough' place to stay
- Paul (6/5): - Love room. Great location and very good staff. But and it’s a big but. It is a popular local pub which is open until 2.30 am. The rooms are not sound proofed so if you want to sleep you have to wait until the pud closes. Extremely noisy.
- Judith (8/5): Little Gem - Don’t be put off from “lobby” in a local
Pub. The rooms are wonderful and comfortable. Manager couldn’t have been nicer
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Attended whilst in the vicinity, room was perfectly clean and spacious. Would recommend if in the area. No parking but site is a 1 minute walk away for £2.60 per 24 hours.
- John (8/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff. Rather noisy late at night.
- Tracey (10/5): Business Trip - I stay in Cardigan regularly, this was the first time I stayed at The Red Lion & I will definitely stay there again. The service was excellent, we had breakfast there & nothing was too much trouble. We were constantly greeted with smiles from the staff & the locals. Everyone was very welcoming. The rooms are extremely clean, very comfortable beds, good shower, decent size TV, plenty of sockets (ideal on business trips when you’re trying to charge phones/laptops etc. WiFi was a bit hit & miss, but they have boosters & are doing everything possible to improve the signal, so this is more a provider issue. I really couldn’t fault the place or the people, I would highly recommend it for a stay in & around Cardigan.
- david (10/5): - Excellent all round, would definitely use again.
Very friendly,clean and great breakfast.
- nick (10/5): - The hotel rooms have recently been renovated to a high quality. Great bed and shower. Great location and easy parking at minimal cost nearby.
- James (10/5): Nice place - Rooms are lovely, above the pub. Look newly decorated with nice new bathrooms etc. Nice size. Big TV, a desk, a couple of chairs, sideboard, kettle, tea, coffee biscuits etc. Stayed on a Saturday night, the pub is open until 2:30am! so should you fancy going on a bender without leaving the building then you'd be right at home. I didn't get chance to sample the pub as I was out doing other stuff. It was pretty busy when I got in about midnight but upstairs was quiet. Great cooked breakfast and coffee - nice relaxed atmosphere, right in the middle of town. Would recommend it.
- Mick (10/5): Great booky greststay - Cool and good andfine good breakfast ..?....................
- Miss (10/5): A warm welcome at the Red Lion - Very recently refurbished to a high standard by someone who understands what you want from a hotel room. Very large, comfortable bed, good facilities and a lovely bathroom with a proper shower.
There's excellent soundproofing from the pub below.
There's parking available a short walk (2 minutes) from the river - pay and display - £2.50 for 24 hours
Breakfast was varied and lovely - they cater for vegetarian.
You'll have a warm welcome from the moment you step through the door, and I would stay here again.
- Nigel (10/5): - I you ever stay in Cardigan, stay at The Red Lion. The rooms are amazing.
- sally (10/5): Lovely BB in cardigan town - The Red Lion pub is a cosy and friendly Bed and breakfast hotel. Thank you to John and staff for making our stay comfortable and enjoyerable.
