Guest Reviews
- Collins (7/5): - Shower pressure was very low but that is potentailly a Nelson issue not the motels.
- Daniel (7/5): Acceptable for the price and great location - Great location, 1 bedroom apartment was a good size. The room/motel is a bit dated. A few lights not working. But I got what I expected for the price.
- David (1/5): - Nothing to like about this less than budget motel. Lights didn't work. Bed was uncomfortable and the staff did not have a clue of what they are doing.
- Penny (2/5): Photos do not match establishments standard of cleanliness and disrepair. - Very Outdated photos. Facility very poorly maintained. Rooms and bedding smelled of other people’s odour. False advertising- using very outdated photos.
- Kirsty (6/5): - Location. Warm and comfy bed. Bit worn and tired. Not all lights going. Faulty sink tap.
- Susan (7/5): Comfortable without being fancy near the centre of Nelson. - The motel is very handy to town. The 2 bedroom unit we had was quite spacious. We were attending a family event, and had a few people visit us during the day. At one point we had 7 of us in the lounge and it was quite okay. It is a bit run down and could do with some maintenance. The swimming pool was one of the things that attracted me to this place - but it didn't look like it had been operational for months. There was also a children's playground with notices up that it was out of bounds to guests.
- Allan (10/5): -
- Megan (8/5): Good value for money - The place was good value for money, and close to town
- Nerys (8/5): - Good location and facilities. My daughter got bitten by the cat there so be careful.
- Murray (7/5): Ideal for a one night stay close to the city. - The location is excellent, being close to the CBD. It was good value and as an option for a one night stay, without too many 'bells and whistles' it was perfectly adequate.
- Tyler (1/5): -
- Murray (5/5): - Very good location, close to town and the river. No milk was supplied or offered and we had to ask for bath towels.
- Lisa (7/5): - Great location. Some mold in the bathroom.
- Lisa (7/5): -
- Terry (9/5): We are repeat visitors to the Kingsgate. We choose it because the spacious room allows us to easily prepare/ pack fo - Spacious room, comfy bed, close to city centre. Nil - all good
- Jenny (6/5): - Very dated
- Ghie (8/5): Overall, staying here is good. Its just alright. - the rooms are clean. Its alright. Fair enough for the price. Its just the pools, it is advertised here that there is a pool so we brought swimming clothes for our toddler but it was uncleaned, its so dissappointing. The pool was gross.
- William (3/5): Could have been better. - Bed was comfy. Water pressure was good. Separate bedroom was good. The place would have been more inviting if little things were attended to. Dead plants in pots outside all the units. Sagging curtains in our room and broken light fittings. Even the couch had a cover on it because underneath it the couch was wrecked. A new couch should be bought.
- Frank (9/5): Nelson is a great place to visit, lots going to. - Location was close to everything we needed. Spa bathroom was an extra bonus Place is a little bit dated but it’s slowly getting done up. Still very helpful staff and clean.
- Dianne (8/5): - Close to all the restaurants and shops with a good range of bed options to suit our group we keep returning to this great motel.
- Phillip (7/5): - Proximity to CBD Facility is a bit dated now.
Not enough hooks and rails in bedrooms and bathrooms to hang things on.
Microwave on top of fridge too high - safety risk.
Top of microwave dirty with layer of dust.
3 beds in one room with inadequate luggage space.
- Moselen (9/5): -
- Barbara (8/5): -
- Glynn (6/5): We enjoyed our stay. Staff pleasant. - We made our own breakfast. The situation was excellent in that it was located near at the Trafalgar Centre. (Vero International Vintage Car Event) Needs a make over - Main bedroom lights not working. Swimming pool broken. Kitchen equipment minimal
- Findlay (8/5): - Location. Parking. 3 lights not working. Reported to manager, week later still not fixed. Too dark to read.
10 rooms booked to people attending national event, often in car park but manager never even came out to say hello.
- evelyn (9/5): -
- Kevin (7/5): -
- Pamela (6/5): Good location - Good location Untidy areas outside apartment.
- Sylke (7/5): -
- Felicity (5/5): Disappointing - Location and space as a one bedroom unit Very dated decor and very basic amenities- was supposedly fully booked but there were only a few units occupied. For nearly $300 for the night we were disappointed all round. Outlook into car parking and not accommodating atmosphere.
- Timothy (8/5): Just there one night. Late checkin was no problem. -
- Fliss (5/5): Good location, but overall stay disappointing. - Close to town. Arrived and was told that pool wasn’t in use, despite it being very hot. Bed spread stained. Cockroach fell from the ceiling onto the vanity while brushing my teeth.
- Margaret (7/5): -
- Lyn (6/5): - I think motel/hotel owners should have to update their online photos annually. We book looking at photos and are left considerably deflated upon check in
- Beata (6/5): Mycket plats - Stora rum!
- colin (4/5): - The location was an asset to visiting the centre of Nelson. Walking distance. Easy access to highway. Cockroach as a visitor.but staff was very very apologetic .
- Alison (8/5): Perfect for a 1 night stay enroute to Abel Tasman. We had a 2 bedroom unit for 4 adults and there was sufficient space a - Easy to find and close to amenities Kitchen was quite small only 1 person can access at a time.
- Mary (5/5): -
- Andrea (6/5): - Pleasant. Good location. Not as clean as I would have liked. Coffee cups all dirty. Bit tired and worn.
- June (6/5): - We were there for 3 nights so I didn’t require the room serviced the first but requested it the next night and they only emptied the bins and didn’t make up the bed
- sujith (6/5): good location, but not a good value for money. - location!!
easy to reach the city centre. Rooms are not cleaned properly. Aircon stinks. when we turned to cold mode. Shower head broken.
- HJS (7/5): -
- Fiona (3/5): Great time in Nelson but stay somewhere else - Convenient location the bed was comfortable. The outdoor pool that was advertised was half empty, dirty and had clearly not been operational in a while. The bathroom window was difficult to close due to the weeds outside. The children’s play area was by the car park on a bit of ground and the trampoline was dismantled while we were there. The rooms decor was old and tired and on need of a freshen up.
- Robin (6/5): - Closeness to town centre Shower was blocked, slow draining, kitchen tap was very loose
- Wendy (5/5): Ok for a one night stay - Proximity to town Run down and pool not available. Curtains not on tracks properly. Maintenance needed!
- john (9/5): Home sweet home. - It is an older motel style, which is exactly what we like: spacious, two rooms, TV in separate room, couch, near to town centre. Like a small home at a good price. we liked it and will make this our go to place. we only stop in Nelson for overnighters and this is perfect for that.
- Angela (6/5): -
- Robert John (3/5): Overall a disappointing stay. Would not recommend. - The location of this property was great - walking distance to main shopping area. First impressions were not good. Garden areas required a good tidy up. Unfortunately the Unit itself was disappointing for the money. The bathroom was very tired and definitely needed updating. There were cobwebs over the windows and the window sills and kitchen tiles needs a good dust/clean. We're not fussy but expect a certain standard when paying for accommodation.
- Louise (5/5): - Location was good - an easy walk into town Facilities let us down - chipped paint, mould around the window in the bathroom and down by the shower, loose door handle to the bathroom
- John (1/5): Expensive and poorly managed. Really needs a good makeover and refurbish. - Great location, easy walk to town.
Liquid soap rather than bar soap. The pool was closed for “maintenance” but the whole area looked abandoned.
The carpet in our room was saturated from a shower leak on the other side of the wall.
The shower was partially attached to the wall with fabric band-aids.
There was a wet towel hanging in the wardrobe from a previous guest.
There was an ironing board but no iron and no one at reception to supply an iron when needed.
The stove top was dirty under the coil elements.
Play area had a broken and dangerous trampoline.
- Hans (1/5): - Room 11: was running loud the whole night the water pump of the swimming pool directly beside our room
- Julie (8/5): Nice - Close to town Outside mat was very dirty. Rooms comfortable
- Carolyn (9/5): Quiet & Comfty, Close to Town - location was great, easy walking to town and the Trafalgar centre
Motel was quiet
- sonyia (6/5): stay was comfotable but unit needs urgent attention to replace light bulbs and check shower drainage - location cleanliness no main light in bedroom
the shower did not drain straight away so stand in water covrring your feet.
chipped crockery
tap on sink in kitchen very loose kept spinning around.
- Margot (1/5): 4 star?... they must have bought them from Temu!!! - Location Pretty well everything. Carpet had holes in. Teatowel was disgusting with holes in. Pool was locked and looked awful. Crockroach inside. So pokey, we had to unpack bag in bathroom. It was unit 11.
- Robert (6/5): - Good location Pool needed cleaning before anyone uses it.
Otherwise expensive for what it is.
- Julie (7/5): Motel was a great location. Was comfy. - Location was perfect for the event we attended. Which was walking distance I’ve stayed in afew motels the only thing is we were not given any milk but this motel may not do this?
- guinevere (8/5): Location and cost were the highlights - The pool was unusable full of brown slime. The room had an hair ball in the shower.and the whole place needed a clean around tbe edges, even the toilet seat wasn't fully cleaned.
Never saw any staff, Office closed the whole time I was there. Room had everything one requires. Location is excellent. Price range.
- Julie (6/5): - Close to town Bathroom and bedding clean and tidy but dining table dusty and left over chips in the oven from previous guests.
- Huata (6/5): - The room was warm and comfortable The front door jammed, and the fridge wasn't working, which defrosted, causing water all over the floor.
- John (3/5): Good location. - Probably the location was the best thing. Unfortunately it is nothing like the pictures. We were a little disappointed with this motel. The pool was closed and messy. The staff were never there at reception.
- Caryn (4/5): - Great location, easy walk into town. Office was not staffed during check in hours. Returned from 4 day hike and had to wait 1 1/2 hours to get luggage that was stored on sight as no one was there. Furnishsings in unit run down.
- Marc (9/5): - Excellent location five minute walk from the main street. Rooms were big and bright and the beds were comfortable.
- judith (7/5): Good location - Great location, easy walk from bus station. Big bathroom, nice towels. Close to main streets with many restaurants and grocery. Nothing. It was fine
- Tracey (10/5): - The owners were amazing, booking.com had confirmed the booking on my end but no theirs and wernt expecting us. They found room for us and had us for the weekend on them for the inconvenience.
- renae (10/5): Fabulous hotel, reception super helpful with late arrival. Clean & tidy. - Great location, super comfortable room with kitchenette Nothing
- Monika (1/5): - Very dirty Atmosphere
- Sylvie (9/5): Très bon rapport qualité prix - Bien situé, bien équipé, accès facile. On serait bien restées plus longtemps. Le ménage mériterait d’être plus raffiné.
- ann (6/5): -
- Dushyant singh (1/5): Was a bad experience overall - There was not much to like Biggest problem was that on google it is listed as a 4 star property. In reality it’s just a 1 star property. What I saw on google is very misleading. It is a very basic property. Wasn’t even tidy and there were stains on the carpet and fowl smell in the living room area
- Louise (8/5): -
- Sharon (1/5): Misleading and disappointing - When we advised the manager we were not happy with the accommodation we were given a refund so we could find another place, which was appreciated. The property was extremely run down, very dated and filthy. It looked nothing like the pictures on the website and is charging 4 star pricing for a 1 star facility. It was disappointing to be so misled.
- Barbara (8/5): Great location and comfortable - Location! Easy walk in to Nelson. Spacious bed/living room and bathroom. Helpful hosts Nothing
- Rex (1/5): Disappointing and felt like we didn’t want stay - so we didn’t and left after 3 nights but paid for 4 - Dirty room. Rundown - curtains ripped. Sink in bathroom not working. No servicing - even had to ask for coffee to be replaced
- julian (9/5): - Nn Nn
- Kelly (1/5): Could be great under better management. - Location was walking distance to all the shops. The current management team seems to lack even the basics.
Between our group, we booked three units and all three had issues. They were missing light bulbs, lacked basic utensils, had dripping taps, poor shower pressure, and clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly. The oven and microwave were dirty in every unit.
We were excited about the pool for the kids, but it wasn’t cleaned and was cable‑tied shut by the second day. The trampoline was also unsafe, with several springs missing.
The washing machine was out of action and has apparently been that way for quite some time. To make matters worse, one of the units didn’t even lock.
- Erin (3/5): I would try to find another place to stay if you can - Close to town Musty smell in rooms, smokers smoke coming in. Swimming pool closed. Shower not working properly
- Nicola (1/5): Repulsive - Nothing, we were disgusted on arrival, looked terrible from the street, no better inside. A skip at office door grounds untidy We went to a tiny little room, door didnt close properly, stain on bedding, carpet ripped, dirt inside cupboards, bathroom dirty, copwebs on windows, stains on carpet, net curtains ripped, pool area was unkept, water was green ( i have photos) we asked for our money back we were not staying in this dive of a place. Luckily we found somewhere else. Dont know how they survive in business. When i bought this up with man he said the owner wont fix anything. Photos on internet look so different,
- Craig (3/5): We stayed 1 night out of a scheduled 5 and had to find alternative accommodation at short notice. Not ideal. - Location was great. There were several issues with the property, from missing our non functioning light fittings, broken shower rail and the shower leaked water into the lounge carpet. The pool which was a major attraction was out of action with grime at the bottom.
- Rahapa (10/5): -
- Jess (4/5): - There was an overwhelming musty smell.
And no actual soap in bathroom only sanitizer
- Amanda (5/5): Pleasant and quiet. - Location was fantastic, walking distance to conference centre. The lino in the bathroom was dirty and stained.
The cups were dirty. Perhaps check to make sure the dishes have actually been washed.
- Petera (1/5): - Didn’t like anything about to old needs an update Needs everything done to the place hope it burns down
- Gary (5/5): - Clean Laminate on table said room gets cleaned every day, but it wasn't cleaned for entire stay, you had to put up the note on the wall by the kitchen on the glass front door for the room to be cleaned, maybe in future the Laminate can explain the guests to do that. Other than that a good stay.
- Philippa (1/5): - The bathroom shower was absolutely filthy. There was buildup of dirt and mould. I don’t think it had ever been cleaned properly.
- Tracey (9/5): Comfortable and convenient stay. - Great location and well appointed room.
- Rob (10/5): Great staff!! - The property needs some work but it has the basics you need and is close walking distance to town. The owners were exceptional. Our group were waiting for an Uber which never came and one of the managers offered to take us to our shuttle - now that’s exceptional customer service!!!
- Una Faith (4/5): Ok for a stop over stay. - Easy to find from main highway with on site parking. Room facilities were very dated & a bit cramped.
- Brenda (9/5): - Owner was excellent - very helpful
- Jonziboy (5/5): Dont waste your money - Closeness to venue we were attending The reception, notices placed in window advising arriving quest that they were in and that their keys were in units. My surname is not nerdys. No milk, no hand wash for bathroom rather all there's was, was a near empty sanitiser. Shower head was cracked therefore crap pressure. No plug for to fill sink, therefore no ability to wash utensils. And finally had to fight the door to lock it. Literally fight it. Would I come here again. The price I paid was right up there, so no.
- Bernadette (8/5): Quiet and comfortable. - Had everything we needed. Quite a spacious living room area even with the single bed in there. Cooking facilities available and right across the road from the rugby ground if that's your reason for being in town. A few minor repairs needed but it didn't detract from how comfy it was.
- Andrew (7/5): Handy to the city - Great location, close to city centre and other activities. Rooms were generally spacious, well appointed, shower was hot with good pressure Decor quite tired, WiFi required daily reauthentication, pool could use a clean
- Megan (7/5): It was a clean and spacious room to stay in. Was comfortably kitted out with usual facilities. - The property is in an exceptional location We had a problem where the post in the shower that holds the shower head had rusted and fell off. Was like having a camp shower.
- Salome (6/5): - The shower was broken, the cups were dirty
- bebhinn (8/5): - Clean good location has everything you need Basic
- Aadil (1/5): - We had a email confirmation of our booking and when we turned up at the motel after a tiresome journey of 5 hours drive looking to rest , we were told their system was down therefore they were double booked and our booking was cancelled. we had to go hunting for a place to stay with 2 kids at 6.30pm? The least as a courtesy if something like this had occurred was to inform/let us know that - not wait for us to reach there and hear this? That really shows the character and service they provide. Sorry you have no place to stay,?? who says that. You certainly dropped the ball here. The fact that we are having this chance to share our experience says we had the confirmation to stay.
Nelson is a great place , what vibe and character , simply marvelous. This experience was definitely not on. We managed to find another place which far exceeded our expectations and was top notch , will always go there when we visit Nelson next.
- Katie (9/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Jana (6/5): - Location was perfect. We were asked to pay cash on arrival. They claimed their system is down. Inconvenient as we would have wanted to charge on credit card. No receipt provided even when I asked for a paper one. Lady said they will send an email but never did. Pretty sus.
No cot provided for our baby even though I requested one a month prior and they confirmed availability. When asked we were given a damaged, unusable cot, which we ended up returning to them. Room and facilities were not properly cleaned. There were used beddings in the sofa bed when we pulled it out. Shower does not drain properly.
- Jo (9/5): - Great location, easy walk into the city center. Great hospitality, and had everything we needed.
