Guest Reviews
- Debra (2/5): Didn’t feel lucky staying here - Overall poor hygiene. Breakfast was included but didn’t look appetising and flies buzzing round the fruit, hot cakes were cold and not covered up. The ‘cook’ wasn’t trained. our private room was basic- nowhere to put stuff except on floor, nowhere to hang towel in bathroom. Friend in dorm had bed bugs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff are all really great! That are a lot of fun and just really make very laid back vibe. They love to party with the guests and make you feel at home. I was not expecting much from the pictures before I arrived, but was pleasantly surprised by the accommodations. Don't get me wrong it is a cheap hostel so is not in the best condition, but it has a real charm about it and the staff make up for anything you might be disappointed about. I wasn't expecting AC in the dorm but sure enough they had it. The next time I travel to Tulum I definitely plan on staying at the Luck Traveler!
- Zazai (2/5): - The hostel stated that it was all inclusive, but it wasn't. It was in the middle of nowhere, in an unsafe environment. There was no transportation into town in the evening. No gocery or restaurants in walking distance. Not everyone wants to ride a bike. Lanka was rude, and misrepresented the establishment. Raoul, also gave Expedia a hard time with contacting his business, so that I could eventually get my refund processed. I had trip insurance, and I am a gold member, so I knew I was going to get my refund. The only silver lining was Felipe. He heard about my dissatisfaction and offered to help. If it weren't for him, I would have had a miserable vacation. Do yourself a favor, pay a couple hundred dollars more, like I did, and stay in a nice hotel, closer to the center of town. You'll feel alot happier, and safer!
- Óscar Edistio (8/5): - Buena comida. Buen ambiente.
- Sophie (10/5): - Large common and dining area, always enough space and seats for everyone, two bar set up means it doesn’t stay too noisy too late but also let’s you be social when you want to be. Great options for group excursions or to book with other tours for great prices - definitely recommend. The pool is not the greatest but would probably get used more just to quickly cool off- one word of preparation is that it’s a good idea to have your own supply of water just in case, one day it seemed delivery of water took a while and none was available for early risers (stores are nearby )
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We did like the free tours they provide but that was about it. It is far from town so you have to walk quite a bit along the highway or take a colectivo. The place looks nothing like the pictures, it is really run down. I would not stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This hostel is a very chill place to relax and rest while touring the Tulum area. The hot tub was broken so that was disappointing but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. the staff, especially Hugo was very friendly :)
- Charlie (8/5): Great place to meet people - Great food and drinks
- Roger (10/5): - I loved ny stay here. Nice area, awesome people working here, ok rooms, and all inclusive is awesome.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hostel was great! Felt more like a retreat then a hostel. They had a beautiful Common area with a bar, waiting pool and a really nice, fresh, buffet 3 times a day. There was beautiful murals and greenery everywhere that made you feel like you were sitting in nature. Very relaxing. The only thing that was slightly bothersome was that there is a very limited staff and people were bringing bikes back broken. The owners were awesome and made sure everyone was comfortable and taken care of. They must work 100 hours a week each!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - All inclusive, walking distance to the ruins, market and beach. Good food, ok drinks. Staff arranged tour trips which was very convenient. Great opportunity to meet people. Bathrooms weren’t always clean
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everyone was super friendly and the hostel was in a great central location. Our room had to, ac, and it's own private bathroom. Beach was a bit further than we expected though
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Tout inclus, très bonne nourriture. Service courtois.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - For a hostel, it is decent enough. I wanted a private room for myself and their private en-suite option can sleep 3 people (1 full sized bed and a twin). The room was just okay - The private is good value if traveling in a group of 2 or 3 and splitting the cost but not that great if you are solo and just want your own room.
They make you give them your passport to hold during your stay which I didn’t like, and didn’t see the reason for doing. I’ve stayed at countless hostels and hotels over the years and have not had to hand over my passport before.
- Olivier (10/5): - First of all, its a hostel. That being said, its an awesome place to meet people and enjoy free beers, shots, and drinks. AC in all the rooms, and the dorms are quite ok. A small curtain for some privacy, and well the bathrooms are hostel bathrooms, but they do work perfectly. The staff and owners are working on making the hostel better and better each day, so in the morning at like 8-9am, theres gonna be some small construction noise. But the location is perfect if you have a car, and if you don’t, just hire a free bike from the hostel and it will bring you everywhere! Enjoy!
- Sylvia (10/5): - I really enjoyed the all-inclusive factor. Food was always good, especially the sushi. Drinks are great and the bartenders are very entertaining. Rooms are nice and clean and all have A/C. Staff are very kind and fun (they even organized a hostel group trip to a cenote), and the free bikes rentals are awesome. The property is very close to the ruins and the beach, which is great, and an ADO bus station.
- Mondyna (10/5): Amazing! - I loved staying here! It was my very first hostel experience so now my standards are super high. It was beautiful and in a perfect location in Tulum, 10 mns walk from the Tulum ruins. Rooms were also great, strong AC (seriously I was so cold lol), each bed came with curtains and bathroom was really clean. Just bring your own hand soap. We get a bike to go around, plus food and drinks are also included all day long which was super great because it was free so you can save so much money on food during your trip. I'm not sure if it's always like this, but when I stayed there were a bunch of other travelers as well and we all ended up hanging out and partying all night long. If you wanna meet other travelers and people on the road, then definitely stay here! The staff is so friendly, and they organize tours each day. I only got to go to one of them which was to visit a beautiful beach about 20 minutes away to which they brought along drinks and sandwiches for us. Seriously, great value for your money!
- Enganados pelo "All inclusive" e pelas fotografias do site.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing, super friendly staff! - I felt super comfortable there for being a solo lady traveller. Would definitely recommend to friends.
- B (10/5): - In a good spot between both the beach and the town, easy to park and a good communal area.
The staff were very friendly and the open bar is fun.
The only comment I would make is that the breakfast started a bit late at 8.30 for days when we wanted to get a head start on the other tourists!
- shayan (10/5): - Get value for what you are paying for. The all inclusive food and drinks will help you save a lot of money! Every room has air conditioning which is a plus. All the staff were very polite and helpful. Everyday the staff takes you on a trip to either near by cenotes or the beach!
This hostel is def worth the stay!!
- Cesar (8/5): - This hostel is good for the price you pay. All the staff is very friendly. The food is good. Don't forget your biodegradable bug spray since the insects want your blood the minute you step outside. The free bikes are nice to get around the area.
- Sandra (10/5): Absolute hidden gem! - Staff is extremely polite and helpful. They organize daily excursions. Plenty of food and drinks. Every night is a themed dinner night and there even is a sushi bar included. The rooms were good size and a steal for the price. Only Complaint is the bar and dining facilities are outside so you are eaten alive by mosquitos! Def bring off with deet. Organic sprays won’t cover it :(
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stayed in a private room, nothing special but was perfect for our trip and our budget. Staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly. Walking distance to the beach & the ruins. Food was okay (I'm a very picky eater, and I always found enough to eat). Breakfast lunch and dinner and drinks all included, can't beat that. The only issue we had was that no one is at the desk late at night. Upon arrival we wandered around looking for someone until we finally saw our key sitting behind the desk & let ourselves in. Other than that, very nice & highly recommend for those on a budget.
Gracias!!!
- Jess (8/5): Good location on a budget - If you are on a budget and looking for a centralized location to hop around the Riviera Maya, Lucky Traveler is great place. For my first hostel experience not a bad one. Staff os very nice and helpful. It’s great that they provide foos included in the room stay. If you can shed a extra buck to eat than, do so. Food is just OK.
- Verified traveler (6/5): overbooked upon arrival - Good for young people. All included HOSTEL.
We are more used to All included HOTELS.
- FERNANDO (4/5): Nice but whit cucarachas, never clean them - Es un concepto interesante pero definitivo para muuuuy jóvenes. Its a very interestant concept, but definetly for Young People, i had to buy ddt, it kills two cucarachs and they never clean.
- J (10/5): 10 reasons to stay at Lucky Traveler's Hostel - 1. yummy breakfast, lunch and dinner (the chilaquiles Are delicious) I bet someone's grandma is cooking in there
2. Nightly sushi bar
3. Open bar - the selection is limited but great mojitos
4. Free bikes
5. Location - Tulum ruins and beach are 5 minute a bike ride away
6. Great place to meet people - they have an open area where people hang out
7. Reliable WiFi - private rooms have their own WiFi
8. Cleanliness People are cleaning thought out the day
9. Daily free excursions - the staff take you to see local places
10. The staff are all friendly, knowledgeable about the area and helpful
- Evelyn (6/5): Decent for a hostel - Having an all inclusive hostel was a perk. In hindsight it would have been nicer to stay in a place close to town. Room was small, but they had privacy curtains around the bed which was nice.
- Megan (10/5): Awesome Vibe - I had a wonderful time at Lucky! The staff was so friendly and accommodating. They were super helpful in helping me with any questions. The free bikes were a great touch and made it super easy to get to the beach and around downtown. Would definitely stay again!
- Sean (8/5): Good hostel, could use a little improvement. - I only stayed one day. I was in a dorm bed right in front of the only bathroom in an 11 bed dorm, so my stay wasn't as enjoyable as some other peoples stay. The dorms were very basic and needed more than one toilet and shower for 11 beds. Overall the hostel was good, the layout was nice and the food was good. The free bicycles were really cool. The staff was really nice to. I would like to go back and stay for a few days instead of one day.
- eva (2/5): Good amenities, ended up sick off the food. :( - + Party vibes, close to the beach, tulum ruins, all you can eat and drink. Really easy to meet people just to chill with. Staff were very friendly and helpful! Comfortable beds with curtains, light, lockers. Nice that it's outside the bustle of the town and bikes are free. Room door lock was broken the day I arrived and they fixed it the same day.
- Only cold showers in the girls dorm. None of us got a hot shower once. I stayed 5 nights. No quiet place to read a book or make a call really, because they are building more rooms beside and there's construction, loud house music constant in the lounge even daytime. Beds were clean but they need to clean the bathroom better, really dirty all the time. Staff weren't knowledgeable about tours so I booked some on my own through another hotel.
- MAJOR Negative here hence the review. I got salmonella poisoning and a stomach parasite on third day of vacation. I didn't stay anywhere else, was only eating their buffet and otherwise drank bottled water, so it definitely was from food from this place, likely breakfast eggs or yogurt or something. Literally ended up in the hospital doing tests, got some antibiotics. It was an emergency that had me chained to the toilet for the remainder of my trip - wrecked! Another guy at the hostel had similar stomach problems. I understand that this thing happens, but it was from their buffet. They need to take better care in the kitchen or check the meat, I don't know...
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great staff, interesting concept, good location, decent food, strong drinks. A good mix of people when I was there. Very friendly. Bathrooms often ran out of toilet paper. Food often came out later than scheduled. But if you're easy going it's a fun and cheap place to stay and to meet people. Bring ear plugs to sleep with, and flip-flops to wear in the shower.
Use the free bikes to get to the gorgeous beach -- but don't rely on the hotel having any supplies there (they say they have snacks and drinks at the beach but we never found that was true, so bring your own water etc.)
It's really easy to catch a "collectivo" (shared van/bus) to Tulum or Playa del Carmen. Collectivos stop at "las ruinas" (on the highway, at the corner where you would turnoff for the ruins and therefore right by the hotel). 20 pesos per person to Tulum and 45 pesos to the Playa del Carmen main collectivo area, which is a few blocks from the cozumel ferry.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not so Lucky - Our experience at Lucky Traveler wasn't necessarily the best. We arrived past the check in time and our room was not ready yet. The front desk person told us that our room would be ready in 15 minutes and that he would come and find us. Thirty minutes went by and we had to approach him to see if our room was ready. He finally took us up and assigned our beds. We got no towels and they had none available they apparently where all wet. I somehow managed to find us some a day later.
We stepped out for a bit and came back to our room to find that somebody else was sleeping on my friends bed. They assigned her bed after bed but they were all taken. This happened for two nights it was very frustrating. Most of the staff members where nice and helpful, but it appeared the hostel was very unorganized. The food was so so. This place has a lot of potential and is in a great location. I felt it was a little to over priced for the service we got.
- Travis (8/5): Unique Concept - Its an all inclusive hostel. The food was better than I thought. The staff was friendly. The main palapa was the biggest one I ever saw! I went on a guided tour for Carcol Cenote with Victor. It was a highlight of the trip. The bar is fun. Definitely a party place, easy to meet people there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Near perfect - Some staff average, but others amazing. Food was solid. The outside bar opens when it gets late, to keep the party away from the rooms. My stay was reasonably quiet despite some who clearly enjoy the open bar a bit too much. Free bikes are a nice bonus and will get you to the beach in 10 and the ruins in 7. There's even free drinks at the beach. The hostel runs a few tours or will help you book outside ones. Chill lounge area w hammocks and pool. I loved this place and made some friends. Even heard one guy say he moved to this hostel after trying a different one.
- Lucero (10/5): For a hostel..... - OK, let's begin with, this is a Hostel in MEX! But an AWESOME one at that! But, so you are not disappointed there's a few things that have to be told so you enjoy your stay much more! This is a great place to enjoy the beach life and be the ultimate beach bum! It is a very high energy! Loud music and an all you can drink bar so be prepared to hear a lot of shots! shots! shots! and laughter and see dancing with great vibes! I suggest that if you have a parent/or a more reserved person to ask for a private room as far away from the bar but If you are ready to party and meet awesome people then this is YOU! The staff is awesome, & bartenders are really good people! The food is also delicious! WOW! A hostel with 3 all you can eat buffets and with great food! A great deal! YES IT IS REAL! Martha the chef is an awesome woman who really cooks with her heart and genuinely gets happy when you enjoy her food. I ate there for breakfast, lunch, AND dinner and WOW each time it was so delicious! They provide bikes for FREE so getting around was awesome! I rode to downtown(8 min) and the main reason why i booked this hostel was because i didn't want a hectic dangerous ride to the beach and this hostel is across the street from the famous Maya Ruins so riding your bike to the beach was safe, with a bike path & many tourists and no highway! I was truly a lucky traveler because of this, i am a beach bum so having a bike ride so beautiful and safe to the beach was everything! Thanks Lucky!
- freddy (10/5): Great vibes - 10 day trip at 6 different hostels aaaand this one took the crown! Walking up to the front desk alone was an awesome experience. They have everything and I mean literally everything. The staff is awesome and the vibe is on point. I sure was lucky! Oh yeah and the tulum ruins are a 2 minute bike ride away, they also have an open bar on the beach south of the ruins with a volleyball set up. For sure an awesome place to meet people from all over the world and sleep comfortably.
- Paola (10/5): Best Hostel Ever! - It has been the best hostel where I’ve stayed around the world.
Staff is really friendly and accommodating.
Hostel is really clean.
The all inclusive plan is worth the money.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner’ s buffets from Cheff Martha are great and delicious, plus you always get dessert.
Cheff Edgar’s sushi bar is amazing.
César is an awesome barman.
Ceci’s yoga class it’s a great way to start your day.
Look for Victor for a good time at the beach.
If you like to party, this is definitely the best choice.
- austin (8/5): Loved the all inclusive - Great place for when you get into town, don’t have to worry about drinks and food since they are included, free bikes make it very convenient. Super close to the ruins, sushi bar was great, highly recommend staying at least a night
