Guest Reviews
- Pamela (10/5): -
- Lisa (10/5): Excellent stay, highly recommended. - Loved the location, atmosphere and restaurant. Seafood chowder was a hit at our table. Super clean and cosy. Bathrooms were really nice and we appreciated the nice toiletries. Very friendly staff. We only had one night, would have loved another one. An additional or clearer sign in the kitchen area for people to clean up after themselves and to be respectful of other guests still sleeping. We cleaned up after a group of people had left their dirty dishes / smeared spreads / food crumbs on the bench to enable us to make a coffee and some toast. There was also no butter in the fridge.
- Tim (10/5): -
- Bryan (10/5): very good, we both say we,d like to book again when we are around Hobart.. - we liked the decor, atmosphere, location, tea making facilities, parking spots, meals, warmth of fire, cosy nook, breakfast balcony, and other stuff... no blind on the outer balcony breakfast area, cosy spot but gets the direct sun in morning,
- Alexis (9/5): Très bonne surprise dans ce très bon hôtel. Très bon séjour, je recommande ! - Bon petit déjeuner avec pas mal de choix à disposition. Un peu trop bruyant avec le restaurant en dessous.
- Harradine (9/5): -
- Garry (8/5): Great pub with location near CBD and the beach. - Location is within walking distance of Salamanca Place and CBD. Nothing to dislike but carpark has limited space.
- Jackson (7/5): -

- helen (6/5): - Beds were hard and only double for 2 aged adults
- Luisa (9/5): -
- Wendy L (10/5): wonderful location, history, vibe etc etc - the staff were excellent, fabulous menu & dining area. perhaps mention there are lots of stairs (I have a tricky knee) stairs

- Suellen (10/5): Don’t want to say how good it was in case more people want to stay there and it might be booked out when I next want to - Location. Comfort. Staff attention. Cleanliness. Couldn’t really fault it All good
- Devon (9/5): Only issue was an email sent confirming a cheaper price and an upgrade that was granted - Location, history, nooks and crannies to find places for a cuppa, breakfast or a drink at the bar. Friendly staff and super clean. Liked everything
- nadine (10/5): Comfortable, clean and friendly - Great location, beautiful surroundings and meals were beautiful at the restaurant. Lovely shared kitchen with bread, butter jams, honey and tea and coffee. Fridge to store your own supplies. Great for a midnight snack Nothing
- McCrossin (10/5): - The Shipwright Arms is a glorious spot. The rooms and facilities are brilliant. The food is excellent. The staff are all really happy, helpful and obviously love Shippies. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
- Justina (9/5): Fantastic pub with great food, staff and accommodation. Definitely recommend! - Old pub in great location at Battery Point. Room was superb. Clean and modern with smart tv and good sized ensuite. The food in the bistro was amazing with excellent customer service. Loved the front bar with many locals up for a chat, friendly bar staff and we just happened to score the night with live jazz music. Will definitely stay again.
- Wayne (9/5): My favourite place to stay in Hobart -

- Scott (10/5): I had a really good stay here - I had an excellent time staying here. Bed was really comfortable, food was great and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Zero complaints staying here
- Roz (9/5): Gem close to Central Hobart! - Location was excellent for just about everything in Hobart Central! Staff were friendly and helpful, don't be put off by the bar downstairs you can't hear a thing once in your room! Beds were super comfortable and the room warm (it snowed on the hills so it was chilly!). We loved the blue bedside lights, fitting for the theme of the hotel
- Simon (10/5): The building is solidly built which is relevant as the bar is popular but the sound does not travel. - The food in the restaurant is excellent with the Seafood Chowder worth particular mention.
- Mark (9/5): - Lovely traditional Inn with an excellent restaurant and marvellous bar full of local drinkers. The location is in a very nice quiet residential area, but only a short walk to the lively Salamanca Place, the water front and centre of Hobart. Bar closed rather early.
- Michelle (10/5): - What a pleasant surprise, by far the nicest ever shared accommodation space I’ve stayed at. The room was so I needed, comfy bed and private. The shared bathroom and kitchen facilities were absolutely perfect, so clean and modern. Extra toilets down the hall for if the bathroom was occupied, and everything (& more) I needed kitchen wise, plenty of fridge space and also labels available to make it easy keeping my things labeled.
The classic old fashion bar downstairs was brilliant for a couple beers, and then the surprise of the modern, elegant restaurant was perfect! Love this place!
- Samuel (10/5): Excellent place to stay! - Very clean and comfy rooms.
The breakfast was a nice touch - there is a little kitchen you have shared access to.
The restaurant/pub downstairs is a must visit - the food was amazing and it’s beautifully decorated.
We stayed here twice before and after our campervan as we enjoyed it so much.
- Robyn (10/5): -
- Sandra (10/5): Great food & drinks polite staff clean rooms & ammenities - Clean & tidy helpful staff
- Aquilina (9/5): Very enjoyable. - Beautiful historic pub hotel in great location. With good bars & restaurant.
- Dayna (8/5): -
- Bryce (8/5): -
- Antoine (8/5): Great starting point to visit the city, incredible location! - The location is unbeatable, you’re in the heart of Battery Point and its historical neighborhood with plenty of cafes, restaurants and a short walk to Salamanca Place and the port.
The property has a nice authentic cachet, the staff were friendly and the free breakfast is a nice touch. These are more useful improvements than bad things.
- It’s very noisy, from 4pm until 11pm the restaurant/bar are full almost every night and due to the age of the building, the windows and doors aren’t soundproofed at all. Not bad in itself, but just he aware if you’re a light sleeper.
- Also, a desk space or bigger common room would be nice, at the moment there’s only one small round table for the whole floor to use.
- The doors of the rooms close very loudly, so it only takes one mindless guest to wake you in a jump-scare at night.
- Fiona (8/5): Very convenient for my work. Clean and comfy. Nice range of dining options - The shared facilities were bright and clean.
Plenty of hot water, towels and shower products.
Room had a fan which was nice to bring in the fresh air
Double blinds on the window, nice touch.
A mirror in the bedroom would be a nice addition
I like the counter meals and the bar setting, plenty of dining options overall.
- Dzwonczyk (3/5): Too noisy from the hotel quarters themselves - Good friendly staff, comfy room The rooms need serious soundproofing. Way too noisy

- Nyssa (9/5): Fantastic location & friendly staff! - I’ve stayed here several times, and the experience is consistently great. The staff are always friendly, they’re accommodating with a bit of notice when plans shift, and both the restaurant and the location are fantastic. I’ll continue to rebook here when in the area.
- Izaak (9/5): Unique Battery Point Hotel - This hotel is a unique stay in the centre of Battery Point. Its lively atmosphere makes it a great place to grab a drink in the afternoon. The live Jazz on Thursday evening was a hit. The bed is comfy and room is relatively private. Could be a bit noisy from the bar and restaurant downstairs, but after 10-11 noise settles down. Bathrooms were generally clean, however as you are sharing with other guests floors could be wet from people not cleaning up after themselves.
- Olli (10/5): Great small hotel at very beautiful area of Hobart - Nice area, pub and restaurant nice. Room with a glimpse of sea.
- Hannah (9/5): -

- Stuart (8/5): Good location up the hill a bit but great pub - Above a really nice pub with very comfortable beds. Great food in the restaurant
- Mark (10/5): Our one night “cruise” was delightful. A longer “voyage” next time we hope! - Pretty much everything…location, our room (cabin!), the kitchen (galley!), facilities, restaurant, parking, staffing, decor, ambience…the list goes on! I would have liked a few coat hooks in the room…even if only on the back of the door!

Communal kitchen was great. It was a little loud in the room, not from the pub downstairs but from other guests. Our room was right next to the shared bathroom and with the self closing doors the doors banging shut was quite loud.

- Sandra (10/5): - Friendly staff clean facilities
- Jessica (9/5): Great location would stay again - The staff were all amazing an it was a short walk to the CBD and markets. The restaurant was amazing Personal opinion I prefer to have more of a kitchen in room. However the communal kitchen was amazing

Room with watwr views. Steep flight of stairs to get to the apartment. The lift wasn't operational, so carrying bags up the stairs was a challenge.
