Guest Reviews
- Scott (6/5): Ok - Staff were really friendly and helpful, thankyou Sink was in the room and the room was freezing cold during the night, the heating was turned off but not in the room
- Armstrong (9/5): Great pub with rooms, would recommend! - Lovely pub and rooms were comfortable, clean and bed was great. Great location for nearby NT properties, country walks and so much more. Food was excellent and we just loved the breakfasts and dinners there. Great atmosphere and service. Parking. Loved it
- Stephanie (9/5): - The staff are helpful, kind and good humoured. Beds are very comfortable, food good, lemon possit to die for!!
Area and scenery are fabulous to visit, and a great deal of history to learn. The Rose and Crown is very good value to stay at. The only thing I would like is fruit and yoghurt to add to breakfast ,the cooked breakfast offered is excellent but for me I enjoy a continental option.
- Vanessa (10/5): Delighful spot. Breakfast was excellent too. - Everything. Quaint and cosy and spotless. Nothing.
- Raghav N (7/5): -
- Steve (8/5): Superb staff and excellent food in a convenient location - Old with low beams Lack of electrical sockets in room
- Roy (9/5): - Location
- HANNA (9/5): -
- Manuela (7/5): -
- Andrew Craig (10/5): Exceeded our expectations. - The friendliness and efficiency of ALL the staff that we met. Nothing was too much trouble for them in making our stay enjoyable. The breakfasts and evening meals that we had were delicious. A good chef made sure of that. Due to the location of the pub down a lane, parking the car next to the pub was the luck of the draw as to demand. There was however a free public car park within a short walking distance,
- Peter (8/5): All good… as expected 👍 -
- Anke (10/5): -
- Lise (8/5): - Ambiance sympathique. Musique live et accueil chaleureux.
Le village est ravissant.
- Joanna (10/5): Lovely location with really friendly staff - Good location in a very pretty village. Friendly welcome on arrival. Good service throughout our stay. Perhaps slighter cheaper breakfast option? Cereals and toast or fruit.
- Lawrence (8/5): -
- Ben (10/5): -
- Neil (9/5): -
- Siobhan (10/5): Absolutely brilliant - Gorgeous place, rustic and charming. Delicious dinner. Great breakfast. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Beds were comfortable. Shower was good. Room was clean. Location was idyllic. And price was great. Just perfect.
- RebeccaSykes (9/5): Super cosy and historic - The atmosphere of the pub was fab - very low ceilings and rolling floors. We ate both nights and the food was hearty and delicious. We had a memory foam mattress which was really comfy 😁 Huge cobweb in our room, but added to the ambiance TBH! And the ensuite was a bit tight.
- Mili (10/5): -
- M. (10/5): - Heerlijke locatie, gezellige pub met tuin. Alles was prima!
- Emza (8/5): - The Sunday Roast was fabulous! Everyone that works there are friendly and accommodating. The bed was tiny, as was the bathroom. The sink was actually in the bedroom. But the building is 500yrs old, you work with what you have.
- Rachael (8/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were both great. Beautiful old pub in a pretty village. Comfy beds, clean rooms and hot showers. We had a great stay and would happily come back.
- Steve (9/5): Great traditional pub - Great old style traditional pub. Parking, especially during lunch and evenings.
- STEPHANIE (10/5): - Clean, Friendly Staff, Excellent value for money
- Dawn (9/5): A lovely old pub with fabulous staff. - A lovely old, traditional, country pub. We stayed for 2 night's bed and breakfast but also ate there in the evenings. The food was delicious, proven by the amount of customers who came in to eat. Without exception every one of the staff were polite, cheerful and helpful.
The pub and the room were very clean. As a vegetarian I found the menu limited but what there was was very tasty.
- Björn (9/5): - Wirklich schöner uralter traditioneller Pub mit 4 BnB Zimmern.
- Steven (8/5): - Location
- Kirsty (8/5): Dark room, comfy bed, perfect place to rest one's head - Lilly was exceptional from the moment I arrived and right through my stay. I hope this young lady gets the salary she deserves! There was the feel that no matter how outrageous my request The Rose and Crown would make it happen. Breakfast is served at 9am, my function started at 9am in another village, there was no hesitation to offer me a packed sandwich to take with me for breakfast on my early mornings. And boy was it a sandwich!!! Kudos to chef! A large netted spiderweb above the basin in the corner of my room. That spider been hanging out for quite some time ya'll, hope he pays rent.
- Spud McFry (7/5): Nice pub with lovely staff, decent food and beer but rooms a bit tired and people vaping in pub - Breakfast was great, included with room. Good choice, nice coffee. Pub is lovely, decent Harvey's beers, shows rugby, great food. Not super expensive. People were vaping openly in the pub despite signs on the bar. Very inconsiderate, especially for people with asthma.
Bathrooms in rooms tiny, no bath, toilet flush very loud and long. Rooms comfortable but looking a little tired. Overall rooms ok, price if discounted.
- peter (4/5): Never coming back to stay. - Staff were great. An old fashioned pub. Nice food Breakfast was one cooked meal plus tea or coffee. No toast, fruit, yogurt. Very small bedroom. No side table or space for one. Stairs up need replacing. Somebody will fall as they give way tooneasily
- Frederic (7/5): - La nourriture et l'équipe dynamique, accueillante. Le fait d'être empêché de dormir lorsqu'il y a un concert au pub mais bon ceux sont les vacances !!
- David (10/5): The perfect night away. - Lovely traditional pub with a local, homely feel.
The breakfast was excellent Nothing, just a great night's stay.
- David (9/5): Excellent pub - Lovely country pub, really friendly staff, comfortable room and excellent breakfast. Nothing
- Michael (8/5): Good location with good facilities outstanding food - The food was outstanding Parking
- Pauline A (9/5): Great atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food. Full of charm and friendly people. - Excellent included breakfast (many options on offer) and all the fancy coffee we could drink. The pub is charming, and the service was excellent and attentive. We were lucky enough to be there for "steak night", which was an incredible deal - 10 pounds for a large steak and sides, cooked perfectly to order. Sunday is roast night. The room was clean and functional and we didn't hear much noise from the pub, even on a Friday night. Loads of atmosphere in the pub/dining area, with parts of the building dating to the 1470's. The owners were very kind about helping to sort out a Booking.com error. Great place to stay if you are in that area - do try it, or just go for the food. The room was a tad small, but not unusual in Britain. I was in a double and there wasn't room for a proper bedside table or shelf. Reading lights might have been useful. But I was very comfortable, and there was an endless supply of hot water. The windows opened, and there was supplemental heating if needed. Parking is tight but we found street parking without too much difficulty.

- Richard (5/5): - The rooms in the pub, the ticket provided let us enter after midnight. Breakfast was fine. The pub entrance and main pub interior was unsuitable, as its an old building with a number of low wooden posts in the ceiling where you can hit your head.
The bedroom was fairly primitive, and the bed was small and fairly uncomfortable, not good for sleeping.
- Colin (9/5): Ideal for our purposes! - Couldn't be better Nothing
- Thomas (9/5): -
- Benjamin (10/5): Relaxing, well fed and great atmosphere. - Breakfast was amazing, a proper English-cooked breakfast. Drinks were all included for free, and had an extra coffee at no cost.
The staff were super friendly and helped us understand the area.
Dinner was also amazing. Highly recommend the food.
- Gary (7/5): excellent staff, good pub and food but room was inadequate. - the staff were excellent. the food was very good. the local area is superb the room was poor. shower difficult to use. tv is tiny. sink outside bathroom. no WiFi. very limited storage and space in general. an annoying noise was regularly heard from maybe a boiler operating?
- David (5/5): - Being served breakfast that we ordered and not being told l was rude when l complained
- Carol (8/5): - Staff where friendly and the breakfast was very good Room was a little cold but there is a heater you can use to boost the heat
- Marie-Laure (9/5): The perfect cozy pub - Very cozy, above a lively pub but quiet at night in a nice little village
- Julia (7/5): - Schöner alter Pub. Zugige Fenster und sehr einfache Ausstattung.
- Anne (8/5): - Room very small.
- Kirtley (8/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Peter (9/5): For the price it is a perfectly acceptable location and standard... I would recommend. - Handy location. Efficient and polite staff. Decent full English breakfast (with other options). Room facilities are a tad underwhelming and could do with an update / modernisation.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Mrs H S (9/5): Lovely Xmas stay - The Rose and Crown is delightful, full of character and beautifully decorated for Xmas. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, very friendly and explained everything well. The breakfast was delicious and it was lovely to be able to thank the chef herself as well. The rooms are compact and the beds are extremely comfortable, the key test being that the children slept really well! Everything was fine!
- Sarah (9/5): Highly recommended - Comfy bed, very clean, kettle in room, friendly staff, excellent breakfast, nice decor. I usually stay in hotels and this was as good, if not better! I managed to park - just - there was only one space available when I arrived.
- James (7/5): -
- Alexander (10/5): -
- Gary (9/5): Good food and warm welcome - Wealth of old charm Rooms were cold at first
- Steve (10/5): Absolutely perfect stay. - Excellent pub with rooms. I had to leave!
- Laws (8/5): - We liked where the pub was situated from our family and the staff were so friendly The bed was uncomfortable was meant to be a double but seemed like a small double also my husband is disabled so stairs was not a good idea for us
- Jan (9/5): Lovely, reason accomplished. Excellent and friendly staff. Lovely warm atmosphe Thanks to all. - Breakfast. Good parking. Lovely situation. Nothing
- thierry (9/5): - Équipe sympathique et efficace
Cuisine simple mais goûteuse
Chambre confortable Rien
- Margot (10/5): -
- Julia (8/5): I enjoyed my stay and would go back if in the area again. - A nice old pub and the young staff were friendly. The food was delicious, with a good range of options. Breakfasts started at 9am which is too late for many scenarios. I was able to fit round the timing but not ideal. The decoration maintenance in the bedroom was poorly done, there looked to be little effort in presenting repairs in a decent way. Staff were attentive about allergies, although I would recommend writing down food orders for customers with allergies and intolerances as a matter of course, because it’s worrying when they just listen and walk off as if we’re meant to be impressed by this major achievement to keep it all in their head.
- Taylor (6/5): A bit pricey. - Location to where I was working The dealing in the bar was around 5ft 5” high with beams.
The bar area was totally blocked by locals sitting at it with their dogs.
So you had to hope one of the bar staff saw you.
The room was small but clean, there was an electric shower in the very small bathroom, which I hadnt seen for years !
It worked ok though
The beer and food was ok.
- Jupitrr (8/5): We were made very welcome and had a pleasant overnight stop in the village, with an excellent meal. - We liked the friendly village pub atmosphere, this is somewhere obviously popular with the locals. The staff were friendly and the evening meal was excellent. The hotel was in a perfect position for us to visit Bateman's and look around the area. There was nothing really that we didn't like but parking could have been a problem if we had arrived later in the evening.
- Maggie (8/5): - Lovely old pub and staff very friendly
- Stephen (10/5): A lovely visit away from the bustle of London and a step into the way England used to be. - Ancient pub loaded with characters, charm and friendly people. Really good traditional English food. Accommodations are basic but exactly what you would expect-cozy, clean and comfortable.
- John (10/5): -
- Geoff (9/5): -
- kelly (10/5): Will definitely be staying again! - The staff were friendly, willing to help and nothing seemed to much trouble. The food was amazing and good value. There was a bonfire/fireworks night and everyone was welcome. The room was clean and perfect for the night and the local people were friendly also. The only thing was lack of parking but not a big deal as there were streets near by if you found a spot
- Graeme (10/5): A lovely experience, the breakfasts were outstanding. - Friendly and efficient
- Gary (9/5): -
- Howard (8/5): -
- Alison (8/5): -
- Chin (1/5): -
- Paula (9/5): - Lovely old pub with lots of charm . Room was clean and comfortable . Both evening meals and breakfasts were delicious. Excellent service. staff were very friendly Nothing
- Ritsaert (9/5): -
- PR (8/5): -
- Heike (7/5): -
- Darron (4/5): Shocking - The lady running it shouldn’t be in her position at all, rude arrogant to say the least, staff don’t no what the rules are between then and her until it suites them The person running the B&B side
Lord help you is you try to ask her to help you if you make a mistake on a booking I’m still waiting for a call from her manager 3 days now ! If she ever passed the message on at all !
O she’ll book you in but try charge you double, needs a real shake up
- BEN (8/5): Work Stay - Nice cosy pub.
Friendly Breakfast was included in price but not until 9a.m
- GaryGSF (9/5): A real step back to a simpler time. - What a lovely old English pub and accommodation. Dating back over 700 years this has really nice features. Beware of the low ceilings though. Rooms finished with woodchip on the walls but spotlessly clean. Rooms are smallish but perfectly functional with a small bathroom. Plentiful hot water when needed too. The village is lovely too. Nothing
- Karen (10/5): - Comfortable bed. Friendly welcome.
Very clean. All fine
- Jane (9/5): - Staff were really friendly and the room was very clean, small but with everything we needed. There was some noise from a fan or machinery/equipment which was on all night. The main fan from the kitchen went off but this other fan continued. We did have the window open as it was warm. Also no bedside light. It wasn't a major issue and we would gladly stay again.
- harm (8/5): Super leuk - Het ontbijt was goed, gezellige locatie Het was eigenlijk erg leuk

- Lisa (9/5): Great pub in the heart of Burwash with nice rooms, friendly staff and fantastic food. - Really friendly team and good room made for a great stay. Great pub in the heart of Burwash. Full of character. We visited on steak night and food was fantastic along with great selection of Harvey’s beers. Cooked breakfast was also very tasty with nice produce. Nothing to comment on
- Jeanette (10/5): - Leuk plaatsje met gezellige B&B. Veel te zien in de omgeving. Nette kamers! Oude pub waar je fijn kan eten. Goed ontbijt.
