Guest Reviews
- Barry (9/5): May the 4th - Lovely location and views and close to nature. Breakfast was a bit limited. Could have done with a bit more choice.
- Lisa (10/5): -
- Kiya (10/5): Great stay - Lovely property honestly so comfy and cozy The inside was so lovely and easy to drive to Canterbury
- Carole (10/5): Loved the peace and quiet. - Peaceful location, but near to Canterbury.
Bed was very comfortable, shower amazing very clean, bonus of a kitchen area. Cute breakfast delivered in a basket. Staff very friendly.
I left something behind which they happily posted back to me. Thank you Sofa could have been a bit comfier.
- Nick (9/5): Just perfect…. -
- Neha (8/5): -
- Sharif (10/5): - The view and how quiet it was and peaceful. Prime location as well.
Facilities are worth every penny and I would recommend this to anyone and of I was to go to Canterbury again would stay here. There was nothing we didnt like
- carol (2/5): Relaxing.....I think not!!!! - The views from the room was beautiful. There was a dip in the mattress/bed base, which gave a whole new meaning to rolling together. There was pealing paunt un the bathroom around the radiator. And wayet damage aroynd the window facing the pond. There was no heating on the lasy day in November. An extremely basic and cold breakfast. That only containted muesli, a pastry 🥐 and oranges juice. It was so cold we had to sleep with out clothes on. Not what I would expect for the price point.
I was offered a refund thar has not been received. I did see signs of refurbishment taking place but my partner and I had clearly be put in a room that needed overhauling.
- Senne (8/5): -
- Chloe (5/5): -
- linda (9/5): - It was a lovely location with a wide view from the room over a wild corner of England. There could have been two screens on the shower instead of one, I was worried about water escaping onto the floor.
- Alan (9/5): - lovely place???
- Hogan (2/5): Don’t waste your money, book elsewhere!! - Not much springs to mind… This place has a lot of potential however needs a huge upgrade and a lot of love on so many levels. I booked as a guest for the evening as I had a wedding in the area (thank god,it was only one night!). The only thing I liked, was they supplied an iron in my room upon arrival, as requested. You can park car there too (all pretty basic exceptions to be honest). Upon room booking, I enquired the spa and treatments, I was shocked to be told there was no space available in spa for a paying room guest! What hotel stay doesn’t allow booked room guests to use their facilities?!
I opted for a massage but cancelled it, as I was so upset with no spa use. Wasn’t going to pay more!
I had already paid a big room fee for the night - the spa use (shocking) and treatments (normal) is extra fee on top of room! I was extremely upset and disappointed, as I booked this specific stay for a spa use a to relax for a weekend away from London. I was told spa was full after already booked and therefore couldn’t receive my booking fee cancellation on time to book elsewhere.
Upon arrival, had no help for luggage/suitcase to room etc, just got given a key and had to discover the way to it get to it. Arrived to room (iron as requested). It’s all gravel car park/path, very hard if you have any suitcase on wheels.
Room tidy but unclean, dusty and cold (I put the heating on myself, this was working and I did have hot water in room after running tap).
Bathroom- paint unfinished on walls, mould here and there, no extra shelves for toiletries , towels definitely seen better days and very rough texture… not pleasant. No robes or slippers in room (you expect these basics from a hotel room with a spa!)
Bedding was clean but had brown hair here and there on it… headboard was full of dust! Side tables had dents in them.
Window shutters broken - not able to pull back to fully view the garden pond view…
Extremely thin walls and doors - I had an extremely bad sleep due to hearing snoring from another guest! Was as if they were in the same room!!
Breakfast - is delivered in a basket (this is a cute idea but execution is poor) to your door only at one specific time with an hour only to eat and have it collected from outside of room.
- Trevor (10/5): -
- Jacqueline (10/5): Little hidden gem. - Beautiful setting. Lovely bright room with view of the pond. Lovely breakfast basket delivered to your door.
- Carly (8/5): - Very nicely fitted room and comfortable bed in a super quiet location. Plenty of parking Very dark at night trying to get around . No tv is a challenge and breakfast on the second morning (Sunday) was poor
- Michelle (10/5): Wish I could have stayed longer - Beautiful, peaceful setting Nothing
- Jayne (10/5): A clean and comfortable room in beautiful surroundings with wonderful staff. Thank you Ruth, I wish we could have stayed - We received a warm welcome from the lovely Ruth who showed us to our room via the gorgeous surroundings. Very clean room with everything we needed. I have to mention the coffee bags which were really good too. Oh and the wildlife, we watched the kingfisher every morning along with the squirrels and various other birds and even had a heron swoop in and out. Beautiful! For us the bed was a little too firm, however we appreciate that everyone is different in this regard.
- Kate (8/5): Staff were welcoming and very helpful, made the stay delightful - Location, quiet Outside seating areas in poor condition
- victoria (9/5): -
- Dave (8/5): Positives outweigh negatives - Quiet location, lovely garden setting, well equipped in all rooms. The breakfast was tasty but not as extensive as the pictures advertised. It was also not delivered until 9am, which was rather late for us.
The pillows were flat and not very comfortable.
- Emma (10/5): I really enjoyed the stay, it felt really whimsical watching the squirrels chasing butterflies! - I enjoyed the breakfast I received, it was a really nice touch having a breakfast basket delivered. It was also incredibly quiet, the facilities were really lovely and the whole chalet was kept to a high standard, really well worth the stay for peace of mind and comfort. It might be worth mentioning about access, it was a little difficult getting my suitcase down to the end of the garden on the gravel, but really nobodies fault except mine for bringing a large suitcase!
- Antje (10/5): -
- Bénédicte (5/5): - Le jardin La douche : il n'y avait pas d'eau chaude.
- Sue n leo (7/5): chilled out sleep over - very quiet, chilled place, easy 2 minute walk into the village centre, nice pub
very quiet on a night
- David (10/5): Perfect location for what we needed. We will definitely be back and book some spa treatments. - The room was lovely, clean and well equipped. Most importantly it was very peaceful. Just what we needed. The bed was too hard for our liking but that’s the only negative I can find. Everything else was brilliant
- Amanda (7/5): Great location, very relaxed - Would be better to have an earlier breakfast as check out is early so didn’t have much time to enjoy the breakfast and views Cobwebs in corners of room
- Linda (8/5): Great - It was peaceful, and quiet. Staff very friendly and beautiful village, nice pub, very friendly atmosphere.
- peter (2/5): Not interested in having guests to stay - Staff were very unfriendly and not welcoming at all.Infact we were made to feel they were doing us a favour by letting us stay there.
They wanted an extra £35 per person just to use the pool or spa area but had no interest in us as guests.
Rooms were drap and basic would not ever stay there again
- Mc (7/5): Good - The beautiful pond
The turtles
The fish
Rural location
Peaceful vibe We couldn't open windows due to abundance of insects, it got very hot
We didn't have any change of towels or bed linen In 5 days
We didn't have our tea tray topped up with milk etc
There could be more variation in breakfast
- Cilem (7/5): We only spent one night, overall it was pleasant - Was quick to check in and they were flexible on the time, allowing us an early check in. Room was clean and comfortable, however very hot and no fan or air con to make it more comfortable, the walls quite thin and could hear people on neighbouring room. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Lack of air con / fan, rooms letting lot of light in and hot, noise from neighbouring room.
- Petal (4/5): Average for room only - The location was beautiful, situated in an ideal picturesque village. The gardens to the retreat were also beautiful The room was okay but basic. The towels smelled of grease, the toilet also had an unclean smell. The coffee and tea water maker was badly designed and leaked everywhere. A kettle would have been better. The breakfast was also boring and basic. There was no room in bathroom to put toiletries or makeup bag.
- Kirsty (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely room & location, staff were excellent. Perfect overnight stay for a nearby wedding. Ickham Village is beautiful. Nothing.
- Charlie (7/5): A comfortable and tranquil accommodation. Easy access and relaxing stay. - Very tranquil setting. Room had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I booked a room with twin beds. On the information from the property that came after booking it said that a double bed would be the default unless twin beds were requested. I assumed that having booked twin bed option, that would be 'the request'. It turned out not to be so I am unsure why there was an option of double or twin on the booking.
The breakfast is delivered at 9am with no option for any earlier. This was disappointing as we had to be out on both days ahead of 9am and the only other option was to have it delivered the night before but with fresh milk and fresh croissants in the basket this was not a viable option.
- Lewis (10/5): Amazing! So relaxing and calming -
- Jemma-lauren (10/5): Perfect beautiful locations for a peaceful night away - Beautiful location, peaceful and pretty grounds Nothing, we was disappointed in e was unable to get treatments on the day but we will need to book earlier next time!
- Oguzhan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (9/5): Superb -
- Lynda (9/5): Absolutely brilliant much better than expected - Location was peaceful and ideally situated for our visit to wickhambreaux which was within walking distance N/a
- Paul (9/5): Another nice stay - Staff
Location
Quiet
Clean and warm Nothing
- Barry (9/5): Superb -
- Surti (7/5): It was a great stay with Tor spa retreat/ Tor rooms. - The lake and garden view is very quiet and amazing. Also the staff is helpful and good in hospitality. Breakfast was delicious and vegan🥰. We booked for lake or garden view, we neither get one. And many spiders and webs inside room by windows and next to closet. Property is far away from Canterbury and transportation is worst, if someone wishes to book, don’t go without car, it’s very isolated place located in Ickham.
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (8/5): Good room nice outlook over pond - Did not have breakfast
- Nicole (9/5): Lovely and serene - Bedroom with a lovely view right in front of the water Literally the tiniest things - bathrooms need a toilet brush for guests.
- Gerald (8/5): Very good -
- Chui (7/5): Nice stay - It’s quiet with nice view Just a bit far from city
- Prij (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were extremely helpful and polite. Service with a smile. Great team you have. Breakfast was perfect. Amazing selection and nutritious. Everyone was happy. Thank you for an amazing experience definitely coming back again. Nothing. We have only good things to say about this place.
- Tomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amiee (8/5): Very good - So relaxing for the little time we stayed here. Felt like I could sit with a coffee outside all day and breath in the amazing air. Needs a tad updating but that’s all.
- Chris (6/5): Great location, excellent breakfast although get there early as it gets really busy. Rooms are basic - Great location, excellent breakfast although get there early as it gets really busy. Rooms are basic student accommodation with shared bathroom and shower. Rooms are clean and tidy. Excellent value for money for my solo cycling trip round London. no fridge/kettle in room. Room was pretty warm. Not the place for a romantic getaway,
- Eve (8/5): Lovely staff, grounds pretty, breakfast not great - Liked the view from room, the pond and grounds were pretty Breakfast was a homemade muesli that we didn’t like a croissant and jam and an orange juice and no TV, grounds and pond need a little TLC
- Rati (8/5): - Quiet & peaceful
- Oliver (10/5): Great place to stay if going to nearby events - We didn't stay at the location all day due to us having a wedding but it was nice to know we had somewhere close to come back to which we didn't have to travel far to and be comfortable. Spiders covered the whole outside of the room at night. Can't be helped but besides that, nothing else to report.
- Tim (6/5): Adequate - Very scenic . Decent room and bathroom Thin walls . Could hear neighbours talking . Ridiculously high mark up for spa use . Breakfast …a lot of fuss for something essentially very cheap and small . A flask of decent coffee wouldn’t go amiss. Not the hosts fault I know …but that do reccomend it..local pub food ridiculously overpriced for what it was
- Mehdi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shannon (10/5): - Absolutely lovely little spa hotel, staff are friendly and attentive and the brought-to-room breakfast is lovely, room was clean, warm and modern with great tea and coffee facilities, nearby to lots of cute attractions and easy to access, you can even book treatments last minute at the spa, would certainly book again especially for the fair room and treatment pricing
- Frances (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (7/5): Calm lovely space away from it all - Breakfast good. Room and view good and walkable distance to Ickham for dinner We were offered an hour using pool and spa - at £35 each but felt that was a lot for an hour - we hadn’t booked in advance - so decided against - might be good to have that as part of accommodation stay
- Smith (10/5): a relaxed oasis of calm - the calm and peaceful surroundings nothing
- Adrian (9/5): Superb -
- Kimberley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Arun (6/5): It was an interesting experience, must try the spa next time - The breakfast was excellent.
The gluten free granola and oat milk were very good
The bed was very comfortable and pillows were the right hardness The shower area would be better with a door as the water splashed everywhere while showering
The room looked a little tired and there were quite a few insects around
- Julian (10/5): Lovely stay - The whole atmosphere and environment were very relaxing.
The rooms were clean.
Staff above and beyond kind and polite. The location.
It's really quite and out of the way, but also just 15mins away from Canterbury Cathedral.
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eduard (8/5): Very good - Garden area, ans the cleanliness of the room. Friendly staff No TV, location is quite far away from Canterbury
- Carol (8/5): Peaceful and a nice change from busy life - Breakfast was satisfactory but it would have been nice to get a different option on day 2. Understand it is limited but some choice would help.
Grounds of property lovely.
- Paul (10/5): Couldn’t ask for a better place to relax. Outstanding - Excellent all round
- Philippa (8/5): A hidden gem - The view the chilled nature of the place. Everything
- Philippa (8/5): Kick back and relax - Very relaxing setting and watching the koi
- Cheryl (9/5): Just what I wanted for my birthday celebration. Time away in peace and quiet. - Perfect location and environs. A fruit alternative for dessert at lunch would have helped us.
The room was more basic than I would have thought but perfectly comfortable and sleep was beautifully restful. The view of the fields from the full sized windows was a living picture! A lotion from the spa would have been nice to have in the room along with the washing products.
The water from the kettle was not boiling temp I think.
- Alicia (10/5): - We only stayed for one night for a wedding but was greeted by a lovely lady who took me to our room. Grounds were being cut at the time and maintained lovely. Had to leave early the next morning so missed out on breakfast and didn’t get much time here but sept lovely. Very peaceful right by the big pond. Will come back again for a proper break and a book !
- Jackie (9/5): Staff, accommodation and surroundings made my first EVER solo trip very worthwhile and reassuring. I will be back - It was out the way of everything, tranquil, pretty and exceptionally clean. Nothing not to like
- Jamie (10/5): Place to stay to relax - We was only was going stay one end up staying 3 nights as so relaxing Grounds and great staff
- Soo (5/5): What we paid for, not worth it . - Quiet and peaceful location . Very messy all around , seems no one look after surrounding area . Not very clean place to stay. Disappointed what we paid for, not a good value.
- Norby (9/5): Great stay - Great stay and view over the lake. Very clean rooms and friendly staff.
- Melissa (10/5): Was so special, hearing the rustling trees and birds, beautiful tree and swing, magical. - Breakfast was great - would really appreciate option of Oat milk next time. Really appreciated early drop off of basket at 8.30am. Thank you. Would like discount to use spa facilities for accommodation booking.

- Verified traveler (6/5): A very cold & disappointing stay - Checkin is between 2-5pm, we arrived after 4pm so we could enjoy our day as we were only staying one night.
Arrived at the room and was very disappointed the view was of a field not lake. We also had to leave the room immediately and go to the local pub to stay warm, as no heating was put on for us in November, it felt like walking into a fridge upon arrival, considering we needed to check out by 10am, you’d think the room be semi warm so it’s at-least tolerable. We put the heating up, went to the pub and when we returned the room was too hot, we struggled all night to regulate the temperature so I slept terribly. There was not contact details to call reception and the desk is manned minimal hours so you couldn’t ask for assistance when we needed it.
Overall the place was very clean, relatively peaceful despite this humming noise that lasted awhile after the flushing of the toilet I believe? Thought there could be a fridge in the room it was loud at times, but there wasn’t.
I’d also recommend bringing entertainment as there is none in the room.
Breakfast is a ‘light breakfast’, you are provided an orange juice, crossaint, mason jar of granola and a carton of soya milk. I actually paid slightly more for this room than other places, I thought it would be special to spend my Birthday night here, however on this occasion I should have stuck with the travel lodge.
Only other positive was the shower pressure was good, and the temperature good.
- Mimi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good for short stays - Situated very remote but quite and green environment.
No tv in the room, every day same breakfast existing out a pre-packed croissant, mango juice, some home made granola and some oat milk. Coffee is available in the room but does not get refilled once used.
We stayed 2weeks, during that time the bed linen has not been changed and room is only cleaned once together with towels.
Good for short stays…
- Tracey (8/5): Very good -
- Judith (6/5): - Paintwork in bathroom in poor condition.
Smelly drains.
- Sarah (5/5): Passable -
- Nathan (10/5): Will stay again asap - The koi carp and turtles! Nothing was disappointing
- Tatiana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa28 (10/5): A relaxing stay. - We have stayed before after a spa day. The room is convenient to be able to go to and from during the spa day. So quiet and tranquil. Lovely view of the gardens and pond. Breakfast is brought to the room. Facilities in the room are to a good standard. Nothing.
- Ari (10/5): Exceptional - It's lovely. Beautiful scenery, quiet location, tons of bunnies in the nearby field you can watch. The staff is friendly and helpful. I had two big bottles of water in my room, and they refilled one no problem. That's such a great touch. I didn't realize you get breakfast with your stay. On their own website it says that it's not included, but I got a basket on my last morning there and realized I had left the previous one outside untouched, so it was wasted.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
