The staff were very friendly, polite, and welcoming. The room with the private onsen was very nice, comfortable, clean, and relaxing. The private onsen itself was beautiful and enjoyable, although the water was quite hot, probably around 40°C or more, so this may depend on personal preference. The staff advised us not to stay in the onsen for too long, ideally around 30 minutes, then take a break, and not use it too many times per day to avoid headaches. The food was not served in the room, but in a private dining room on the third floor. The atmosphere there was very beautiful and relaxing. The small dishes were presented very nicely, looked excellent, and tasted very good. The service during the meal was polite and professional. However, the dinner service felt too rushed. Dinner is served exactly at the agreed time, either 6:00 PM or 6:30 PM. When you arrive, the food is already on the table, and the next courses are served very quickly one after another. In my opinion, there was not enough time to properly enjoy the first course before the next dishes arrived. This made the experience feel a little rushed and less relaxing than expected. We were also disappointed by the very strict check-in and check-out policy. Check-in starts exactly at 3:00 PM, and check-out is already at 10:00 AM. In my opinion, a 10:00 AM check-out is not in line with international standards and does not really fit a 4-star hotel. In addition, every extra hour in the room costs 3,500 yen, which I personally find rather expensive and not appropriate for a hotel of this category. Overall, the hotel is beautiful, the atmosphere is very relaxing, the staff are excellent, the food is delicious, and the private onsen is a great experience. - Marco (10/5): Relax e cura nei dettagli - Soggiorno caratterizzato da un elevato livello di relax grazie all’onsen privato, che ha permesso di vivere un momento di totale tranquillità e benessere in piena riservatezza. Grande attenzione ai dettagli in tutta la struttura, che contribuisce a creare un’atmosfera curata e armoniosa. La cena Kaiseki è stata di ottimo livello, ben presentata e con piatti equilibrati e ricercati, seguita da una colazione altrettanto soddisfacente. Staff estremamente premuroso e disponibile, capace di far sentire l’ospite sempre seguito con discrezione e professionalità. Un’esperienza complessivamente molto positiva.

The staff have been amazingly kind and helpful. We had a private onsen in our room and were able to experience what a ryokan was like. Appreciated that breakfast and dinner was included. They provided such a variety and large quantity of food at dinner and breakfast (usually appetizer, sashimi, soups, salads, main, dessert). Dinner and breakfast was different each night! Overall, was a great location with excellent staff!

The private onsen tub has some green mould, indicating poorer standard of cleanliness. The bathroom was wet when I checked in, and it would be great to have a cleaner bathroom.

The check in process was easy, and the host showed us to our room and then gave us a tour of the whole building which was really helpful. Our room was beautiful! Our favourite bit was the private onsen on our balcony - it felt like something out of a dream! The complimentary meal was such an amazing and interesting experience. Several courses of beautifully presented food, some of which we had never tried before! The servers were so friendly and attentive throughout. While we had dinner, the staff made up our beds - the best and most comfortable sleep we had over our 2 week trip in Japan! We would 1000000% stay at Hakone Airu again. Amazing from start to finish. Die Zimmer sind stilvoll und authentisch japanisch eingerichtet, die Onsen-Bäder mit Blick auf die Natur ein absolutes Highlight. Das Kaiseki-Dinner war kulinarisch auf höchstem Niveau – präzise, saisonal, wunderschön angerichtet. Der Service war durchgehend aufmerksam, diskret und herzlich. Eine Unterkunft, die Ruhe, Ästhetik und japanische Gastfreundschaft perfekt vereint. Der einzige Wermutstropfen: Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist – gemessen an europäischen Standards – selbst für ein Ryokan dieser Qualität mit privatem Onsen im Zimmer etwas hoch angesetzt. Angesichts des inkludierten Kaiseki-Dinners nachvollziehbar, aber für westliche Gäste dennoch ein spürbarer Aufpreis. Ausserdem wäre es besser gewesen, wenn die Betten täglich afgeräumt werden, denn so blieben die Fensterläden tagsüber zu.

L'onsen privato in camera è la vera chicca, con vista sulla collina verde. Tuttavia c'è anche l'onsen comune. Molti prodotti per la cura della persona a disposizione. Colazione e cena in loco. Abbiamo richiesto, e ottenuto, la versione vegetariana (che si è poi rivelata vegana) dei pasti. Un'esperienza di lusso. Possibilità di ricevere cocktail e bevande in camera (a prezzo scontato durante l'Happy hour) Unico dettaglio: Se si hanno valigie al seguito, il tragitto a piedi dalla stazione all'albergo può rivelarsi un poco pesante perché è tutta in salita. Non ha inficiato sulla totalità positiva dell'esperienza.

- Violetta (8/5): Magnificent mountain views and unforgettable experiences - We booked a room on the 4th floor with a mountain view and were very happy with it! The private onsen was excellent. Two adults can comfortably fit inside, and the water temperature was perfect. The room had all necessary toiletries, including creams and cotton swabs. In the room, you can change into yukatas and wear them to breakfast and dinner. Nightwear was also provided. After check-in, the main room is used as a living area. When you go for dinner, the staff lays out futons, turning the living room into a bedroom. There is a small kitchenette with a kettle and refrigerator. We didn’t immediately figure out the ventilation/heating system (it was quite noisy at night), but it can be turned off. The hotel is a shoe-free property. We left our shoes at the reception, and the staff brought them back to us when needed. We also left our luggage with the staff before check-in, and it was delivered to our room upon arrival. Dinner was very unusual and traditional, with many courses. Guests are seated in private dining rooms, where dishes are brought one by one. We had to experiment a bit, as we weren’t sure how to eat some of the dishes :) Breakfast time and menu could be chosen; we went with the “Western” option and were satisfied. Hakone-Yumoto Railway station is about a 12-minute walk away. There are also many cafés and shops nearby. There was an unpleasant smell in the toilet in the room. However, it seems to be a common issue in Hakone — in many places on the streets there was also a sewage smell. The accommodation tax was 300 yen per room per night. The ryokan is located uphill, so you have to walk up a slope to reach it. This wasn’t a problem for my husband and me, but it might be difficult for older people.

- Lucia (10/5): Pure Entspannung - Das Personal war super hilfsbereit und bemüht. Das Hotel ist mit dem Bus gut an die Sehenswürdigkeiten in Hakone angebunden und auch der Weg zum Bahnhof war zu Fuß machbar. Wir haben auf Futons geschlafen, die deutlich bequemer waren als die normalen Betten, die wir sonst in japanischen Zimmern hatten. Das Essen war eine tolle Erfahrung und es wurde sogar Rücksicht auf eine Laktoseintoleranz genommen, was in Japan absolut nicht selbstverständlich ist! Eher wissenwert: Der Weg vom Bahnhof zum Hotel ist etwas steil, das sollte man mit Gepäck wissen und ggf. den Gepäckservice oder ein Taxi nehmen. (Das Hotel kommuniziert das sehr offen, daher für uns nicht negativ)
- Philipp (7/5): Interessante Erfahrung - Der private Onsen war wirklich eine tolle Erfahrung. Die Mitarbeiter waren stets freundlich und das Essen hat wirklich super geschmeckt - sowohl am Abend als auch das Frühstück. Dass die Mitarbeiter keine Japaner waren, hat uns dabei überhaupt nicht gestört. Die Ausstattung und Zimmer scheinen etwas in die Jahre gekommen zu sein und man kann Gebrauchsspuren deutlich erkennen. Generell war man leider etwas unflexibel, was den Ablauf anbelangt. Alles war sehr durchgetacktet, so hatten wir zwischenzeitlich beim Abendessen (18:00 Uhr) mehrere Gänge auf dem Tisch stehen oder konnten nach 21:30 Uhr auch nichts mehr an der Bar bestellen. Im Allgemeinen kann man sagen, es war eine interessante Erfahrung. Bei unserer nächsten Japan Reise würden wir diesen Teil - auch wegen des vergleichsweise hohen Preises - jedoch überspringen.

Staff struggled with some communication issues as they are mainly Burmese. The rooms had a kettle and instant coffee but no milk and no spoons and no black tea. The staff called us every morning and evening 20mins before the time we had booked for breakfast or dinner to tell us the food was on the table. We asked them to please stop ringing our room but they continued to do it for each meal including when we were sitting in the onsen trying to relax. it's a beautiful property and could be outstanding with a few minor changes.

But the best part was having our own private onsen in the room to relax in and recover from a long vacation in Japan. My only minor complaint is the check in time relative to checkout, especially for a one night stay as we did. I felt that it didn't give us enough time to fully enjoy all that this ryokan had to offer. But that just means we have to visit again!

- Sanya (9/5): Beautiful suites with private onsens, perfect for a romantic and peaceful getaway - A beautiful stay at Hakone Airu, the design and theme was extremely tasteful, check-in was so smooth and prompt. I would advise anyone visiting Japan to stay in a Ryokkan for at least one night, and this one was perfect. The rooms were clean and featured minimalistic designs with warm lighting - the futons were surprisingly comfortable and probably the best night sleep we had during our trip to Japan! The highlight was the private onsen - with the absolutely stunning views of the cherry blossoms and mountains, this was the perfect place to unwind and we really felt the benefit of it. This really isn't a criticism as such, but I think something for Western travellers who are relatively new to Japan, like we are, to be aware of. The food served at this Ryokkan was 'kaiseki' - multi-course food service at dinner which I understand is very typical to Ryokkans, and a traditional Japanese breakfast. The food provided a really great insight into a variety of Japanese dishes that perhaps we wouldn't choose ourselves. Whilst we really appreciated the artistry and presentation, I think the dishes were perhaps a little bit out of the range of what we were familiar with, and therefore not entirely to our taste. Completely accept that this is probably a reflection of us, but I think it's perhaps something that Western tourists unfamiliar with certain aspects of Japanese cuisine would like to be aware of before travelling, and perhaps not the most ideal for particularly fussy eaters. But I would still encourage everybody to try it out to get the full experience.

Es wurde auch auf Essensvorlieben Rücksicht genommen - Der private Essensbereich für Frühstück und Abendessen war sehr angenehm. Man hatte die ganze Zeit das Gefühl einer absoluten Privatsphäre - Leider sehr unflexibel bei den Essenszeiten. Frühstück nur um 7.30 oder 8.00 Uhr, was im Urlaub doch etwas zu früh für uns zu war. Abendessen um 18.00 oder 18.30 - Die Auswahl für das Frühstück beschränkte sich auf traditionell japanisch oder „Amerikanisch“ was eine Mischung war aus Croissant, Suppe, Rührei, Toast und Wurst oder Würstchen, Fisch. Das könnte man noch etwas flexibler gestalten und mehr auf persönliche Bedürfnisse eingehen. Wir haben leider vieles davon nicht gegessen, was auch eine Verschwendung ist.
- Scholz (8/5): Das Erlebnis war schön, doch eine Nacht hat uns gereicht. - Ein besonderes Erlebnis. Das Personal hat einen freundlich empfangen. Begrüßungsdrink, Einweisung, Begleitung zum Zimmer, die Koffer wurden gebracht. Privatonsen ist einfach toll. Das Essen im zur Verfügung gestellten Kimono rundet die Atmosphäre ab. Abendbrot und Frühstück haben einen Einblick in die Japanische Küche gegeben, es war sehr köstlich. Aber der Aufenthalt war auch sehr anonym. Die Schuhe wurden am Eingang weggeräumt und wir hatten keine Ahnung wohin als wir noch einmal nach draußen wollten. Das Essen wird im separat serviert, somit auch keinerlei Kontakt mit anderen Personen. Es ist alles sehr durchgetaktet, mit genauen Uhrzeiten.

The futon was comfortable and it was easy to sleep; it was nice that they set it up in your room while you are eating dinner. I also love that I had my own private room for the dinner and breakfast. The staff are attentive and easily reachable at all times. In terms of cleanliness, the futon cover had an oil spot/stain, and the rooms are a little dated and with scuffs on the furniture. For the dinner and breakfast, it tastes just okay, I don't necessarily think it is anything special and just tastes alright, although it is a good presentation. The staff can improve by clearing the previous course dishes, instead of letting them stay during the new courses. It was a minor but noticeable difference having to push my dishes aside to enjoy my new course. They could also describe each course with details better. The private onsen is wonderful, but the "fence" is quite high and it is difficult to get a good picture/enjoy the view.
- Oscar (10/5): Best Hakone stay ever! - We loved our Ryokan so much! It was incredibly spacious and the private onsen was absolutely amazing! We felt so relaxed everytime we were in our room. Not to mention the delicious breakfast and dinner included in our booking. Highly highly recommend this ryokan if you’re staying in Hakone!

Das traditionell japanische Essen war ein absolutes Erlebnis und auch die Experience am Tisch war wunderbar. Würden sehr gerne wiederkommen.

- Eyüp Zengin (6/5): Sehr gut aber mit vielen Detailfehlern die nerven können - - privates onsen ist sehr schön - schöne und große zimmer - gute gepflegte ausstattung - sehr hochwertiges essen und auch sehr lecker - freundliches personal - koffer können nach checkout noch verstaut werden - kein shuttle service zum hotel - die Kommunikationsweise des Personal (Aussprache und Informationsweitergabe wirklichmangelhaft) - sanduhren an jedem onsen fehlen - Trinkwasser im zimmer wird nicht nachgefüllt - Betten werden nicht entfernt und wieder aufgebaut täglich - Ausblick auf die Berge ja, aber mit Städtischen Gebäuden nicht so naturbelassen wie man denken könnte - Fehlende Erklärung wie man traditionelle Kleidung korrekt bindet - Verspätete oder Verfrühte Anrufe um zum Essen zu rufen - Keine Auffrischung der traditionellen socken und Anzüge - Beim Speisen wird man vom Personal nicht gefragt ob man noch etwas haben möchte. Es wird sich zu sehr auf die klingel verlassen.

The food is "westernised" Japanese. It is more like a Bali style experience rather than a real Japanese one. Otherwise very good relaxation experience

- あいうえ (2/5): 割高でした - 部屋は広めだった点 スタッフが全員外国人の方で、日本語も7割くらいしか通じない点。一生懸命働いているのはもちろんわかるのですが、せっかく箱根に来ているのだから、責任者として日本人のスタッフを数人置いて欲しかった。
