Guest Reviews
- Darren (8/5): - Nice staff comfortable
- Cristina (8/5): - Food was exceptional. 10/10
- Kathleen J (1/5): You need to see how bad this property is to believe it ! - I will never use booking.com again - you let people down I will never use booking.com. again shocking experience
- GREGORY (6/5): Reasonable stay considering the price - Food in the evening was really good. Pub staff were helpful and had a nice manner. Food for breakfast was ok/pretty good , not a lot of veggie options and had low options for cereal for the kids but was above average/pretty good especially as included in price. Hotel facilities were basic which is ok considering what you paying for, pretty good value for money. Hotel facilities needed upgrading, tv was old and remote was missing the back. The carpets, needed replacing in both the landing and the room itself, probably the curtains too. We booked a room for 2 adults , 2 children, children shared one single bed, at least having a mattress on the floor would have been nice. The mattress/bedframe for the double bed seemed worn/loose was not very comfy and felt a bit unstable. To be fair we didnt ask for an extra mattress or kick up a fuss because only staying one night.
- Katie (4/5): Overpriced, rundown B&B - The location. Close to Alton Towers. This was the purpose of our stay. Not clean, not tidy, staff were not friendly. There was random junk in a court area between the pub and the door leading to the bedrooms and at the bottom of the stairs leading to the rooms.
- GEMMA (6/5): Cheap and Cheerful, good location for local attractions - really good location, close to local attractions. The room were just a little dated. Clean and tidy but just basic. Bathroom could do with some updating
- Rob (9/5): -
- Clare (1/5): Absolutely horrible . Dont know how it got passed as able to be a hotel. - Breakfast was only good thing Told when got there 1 of beds were broke so had to put me and my son in separate rooms. He has autism so not good. The door in his room didnt lock from the outside so he had to sleep in the bed in the other room and I had to sleep on mattress on floor. There was a builders ton bag shoved up the chimney in the fireplace in the room . There was no colour on the tap for hot and cold it had fell off. The knob on the plug stick was missing. The towel rail was all rusty. No hair dryer. No kettle in the second room they put us in. The man who showed us to the room watched me struggle upstairs with a heavy bag and didn’t even offer to help. If we wasnt do tired I would have walked out and gone somewhere else. Defo would not recommend and won’t ever go again. There was blood down the toilet like as if a period pad had got stuff u could see it poking out in the toilet. Yea bags weren’t wrapped they were just chucked in a basket probably covered in dust. Paint on the carpet . Half the skirting board still there where they had cut it off to make the fire place. Chair back was broke .
- Anthony (10/5): Peak District staying at The Huntsman - People were friendly, breakfast was great and big plate of susage bacon beans tomatos, toast jam etc, cuppa tea and coffee. Dart board. And great pint of guinness. They have lots of room outside covered and open. Was nothing to dislike

- Frank (9/5): -
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Faye (5/5): Your food was absolutely amazing best ever pub food but your rooms let you down need updating. - Breakfast was 10/10 excellent The rooms need updating as walls was dirty Shower didn't work no hot water and only came through a dribble so couldn't even have a shower.
- Lucy (4/5): It was basic and clean with friendly staff, but sound traveled and it was too noisy to sleep. - The room was basic but very clean and the staff were friendly. We were disappointed as there was a wedding at the venue and we were not informed at booking, this means it was extremely loud. The building is very old and noise travels, this means we hardly slept. As the noise travels so badly in this building people booking a room should be informed as we paid for a room to get some sleep and got very little, which is not what you expect when booking to stay overnight. I honestly believe it would have been fine if it weren’t for the wedding. Also, the bathrooms are not joined to rooms, which would be fine, but the locking system was silly as you had to use the same keys for room and bathroom and it would only lock form the inside with the key.

- Michael (10/5): UNBELIEVABLE 💯 - A top class bar and restaurant..the food was outstanding. The accommodation was top notch could not fault anything. The breakfast was outstanding. The staff were great and very friendly.
- Mark (7/5): An excellent venue to enjoy the local area with a gem of a 'restaurant' in the Lodge 101. - The 'Lodge 101' is an excellent food venue really buzzing. The main building is under going a refurbishment - so things looked a little un-finished. Not a problem though.
- Andrea (3/5): -
- Neil (10/5): Lovely 1 night stay lovely and warm - Very comfy bed and bedding Quiet and peaceful
- Ajay (6/5): Pleasant stay - Staff were friendly, overall stay was cheap. You could hear quite a lot of noise from the pub downstairs and the room next door.
- Kerry (5/5): - Staff behind the bar was polite
Member of staff who served breakfast was very helpful & polite Owners very ignorant didn't speak once
Very tired old run down pub
Bedrooms & bathroom very old dirty unkept
- Vicki (4/5): - Food and staff were great. The rooms were very tired and ,would not dare have a shower ,duvert stained.carpet worn.
- Martin (9/5): Lovely quirky comfortable place with history and great amenities - Beautiful old historic building, characterful room, v helpful staff, great breakfasts and pub downstairs, lovely rural feel, handy for Alton Towers etc Nothing really!
- Magdalena (10/5): - Staff was very friendly during the stay, the rooms were fairly well sized and very comfortable.
- Will (10/5): - Great location and very friendly service and staff.
- Richard (7/5): -
- Eren (8/5): Good last minute booking - The staff were so welcoming and also polite. They gave us tips and helped us with any issues we might have. The room was cold when we arrived, glad the room had a small portable heater which helped.
As it's a pub the noise from the actual pub is quite loud but once it's closing time, the sounds go quiet
- Blanquet (10/5): -
- Craig (10/5): lovely digs will be back again - lovely hotel clean and tidy good food nothing i was happy with my stay
- Sue (8/5): An enjoyable stay with excellent breakfasts, conveniently located 17 minutes from Alton Towers - The hosts were friendly and accommodating. The breakfasts were excellent.
The beds were comfy and the shower was hot.
The location and parking were very good. Travelling with 2 grandsons, I would have liked them to have a single bed each. As it was, they were okay to sleep together in the double bed and I was fine in the one single, so we managed okay.
- Jack (8/5): Lovely place to stay very kind staff. - Bed was very comfortable, staff were lovely. It’s a very good place to stay as long as you don’t mind a little noise (being above a busy pub) and a small walk (10-15 minutes) to the shops/town centre.
- Sarah (7/5): Basic accomodation but a good breakfast. - Friendly staff Room full of dust and mattress was incredibly uncomfortable
- ian (2/5): - food was very nice , thats the only positive from our stay no hot water from sink , radiator didnt work so room was cold , shower cubicle was full of mouldy silicon and unusable , paint flaking from ceiling
- Jade (3/5): - Very welcoming and the breakfast was good Bathroom wasn’t clean and beds uncomfortable
- Claire (10/5): Next time we are around that way we will be booking again as this is a fantastic place - Absolutely fantastic place to stay!! Ticked all of our boxes. Staff were friendly. Food was fantastic! Lots to choose from, excellent value! Fresh, tasty and hot.Even though we were only just there before the kitchen closed. Son-in-law was amused by their own pizza. Just what we needed at the end of a long day. Breakfast was as good with plenty of choice, the staff were all children friendly
- Mehmet (8/5): -
- Lisa (1/5): Avoid - I can't comment on this because we decided not to stay. We left due to the poor condition of the room and facilities. This place is very run down. The rooms are very dated. The beds in the family room we re extremely hard and uncomfortable. The carpet in the rooms and the hallway is absolutely filthy. There was mould in the bathroom. There was also a pest control box outside our room, which raised questions about the hygiene!
- gwenda (5/5): - Breakfast and location Mattress , no table light
- Stephen (9/5): -
- Mark (4/5): - Breakfast was nice. Road traffic is noisy..
- Adrian (7/5): - Good entertainment in pub on friday night. Good breakfast. Comfy beds. Friendly staff. Great location to get to Alton Towers. Takeaway box with leftovers in bin in one room . Showers difficult to get to right temp (either too hot or too cold) plus flow rate not the best.
- Claire (10/5): Great value for money - The property was exactly as described and good value for money. Everyone was very friendly and the breakfast was fantastic! Nothing
- Michelle (1/5): - Everything about the place from the minute we pulled up,very dated, smelt like old stale beer from when we walked in,vshould have stayed 1 night after a great day at Alton towers but it was honestly not good and had to leave. No lock on the door going from the pub to the rooms which made us feel unsafe dirty carpets, plasters boards attached to walls but not finished, rubbish lying at the bottom of the stairs, needs a good paint throughout, then the room was grim, not clean, dirty carpets, big stains on the side of the beds, ripped pillow cases, dirty bathroom, bits of ply wood attached to walls as shelving and wardrobe!! If you dont care where you sleep then its fine but i would definately not recommend staying here,in need of major refurbishment!! We left after seeing it,just not happy we payed so much money upfront for nothing.
- Ford (8/5): -
- Emma (8/5): Would recommend. - Staff were friendly and welcoming from the get go. The size of the room for our family of 5 was perfect, and it was clean throughout. Quiet and the location was only 15 minutes from out destination of Alton towers. Just maybe need to change the mattreses, although we slept well one of them was very springy and you could feel it. We layered a few blankets on top and it was fine.
- Pete (8/5): -
- Olga (8/5): -
- Nia (10/5): - Loved it! So cosy and comfortable! Nothing it was perfect
- Sharon (1/5): Ok accommodation if you want your car smashed up! - Nothing. Accommodation ok but noisy, its on a crossroads . Don't worry about needing ID for drinking as a toddler was sat on the bar, so doubt they would be bothered about serving minors! A couple of staff were polite and friendly, the rest barely polite. Breakfast was ok . Car park was full and one lovely customer, staff member or delivery van drove into my car and left it damaged and even though the cctv was pointed in that direction the footage apparently wasn't clear and the owners couldn't see if a vehicle hit mine, it took over a week and several phone calls to look and get back to me. Although they offered to send footage have not bothered to. My advice is to go elsewhere .
- Walter (8/5): Very good -
- Nicola (4/5): Comfortable and friendly staff. Rooms basic but does for just getting your head down. - The beds were comfortable, the staff really helpful and the location to Alton towers is ideal. The room we had did have a separate bathroom down the corridor. The fire alarm went off after 1am and no one was available and no contact details to call anyone. Everyone had to wait outside until a member of staff came to turn off the alarms and after that it was very difficult to get back to sleep. The staff offered us a longer check out time so we could get our heads down but we had to leave early as had a planned day out.
- Michelle (6/5): Pleasant -
- Julia (10/5): Great stay at the huntsman - The staff are really friendly and so helpful , the food we had was amazing never tasted anythink like it good value for money too
The pub could do with a lick of paint and updating . But otherwise the room was clean . The pub was very out dated
- James (10/5): Exceptional - The huntsmans staff are very Friendly and make you welcome to a nice BB in a great little village. I made a mistake and double book my room and they reimbursed me for my mistake.very grateful
. ?
- Daniel (9/5): Superb -
- Tim (8/5): Very good - Lovely comfortable bed, large room. Easy parking, good WiFi, nice food. Loud traffic, faulty shower head
- Kevin (9/5): Superb - Very friendly staff
Would stay again definitely Waited a long time for food
- Chmiel (7/5): Vale for money. - Great value for money. Accommodation is really basic but the distance to Alton Towers Park is a bonus. Great and friendly staff. Full English breakfast included:to get you ready for the day. Think the cleaners were on holiday… needs improvement
- Mcgrath (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. On a Monday night the bar was quiet customer-wise but the music and lighting were just the right setting (something important for me as an autistic person)
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (5/5): Passable -
- Debbie (10/5): Great value for money - Excellent breakfast and near Thorpe Park which was a bonus Everything was great
- Karl (10/5): Excellent and would definitely stay again - Excellent b&b with the best pizza cooked in front of you from a brick pizza oven. Quiet and friendly perfect for an overnight stay before Alton towers.
- Tony (9/5): Best food and great location for Alton Towers only 10 min drive - Great location, great food, lovely staff Nothing
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matthew (8/5): Great food, decent room, dog friendly and value for money! - Stayed at the Huntsman for one night. 2 adults and 2 dogs). We had a meal in the bar when we arrived and food was really good. Pizza from the wood field Pizza oven was great and burger was really good. The thick wedges are the best I have had for years.
The room was comfortable and clean with everything you would expect. Electric shower although a bit dated was powerful and hot.
Breakfast was included in the price and was really good. A full English before a day of hiking!
The staff in the evening and at Breakfast were really friendly and helpful. During breakfast the host even offered to make some toast for our dogs 😀.
Very dog friendly and good location for access to the Roaches within 30 mins
- Liane (8/5): Came for a night away with my husband without the children to relax - Very spacious and welcoming
Loved the separate building you could sit in to eat food and drink with the added pizza oven Nothing not to like about the property
- Justine (9/5): Superb - Food was amazing, will definitely be returning.
- Wilkes (8/5): 90% excellent, just let down by the state of the shower/bathroom area. - Staff were really friendly & breakfast was excellent The shower cubicle looked "tired", rust stains in the grouting, and I think mould too, but otherwise everything was clean.
- Darren (6/5): Pleasant - Staff although busy were friendly and accommodating Room was not very clean, was very old and tired. Ripped pillow cases, rust and mould in bathroom.
- Esther (7/5): Good value for money and suited my purposes well! - Room had everything I needed and was comfortable. Location worked well. Dinner was nice Outside bit rough and ready, would have liked fresh milk for tea. Just small things...
- Danny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mick (8/5): Very good -
- Tony (7/5): Really convenient for our work location, with good Pizza and Guinness. - Pizza in the lodge was excellent and the lodge had a good atmosphere. Guinness seemed to be the drink in demand and for good reason, it was spot on.
Breakfast in the bar area was a good quality English fried breakfast. Room 2 could could have been a bit noisy as its above the bar and we stayed on a busy Friday night, but nothing a trusted pair of ear plugs could not sort, it was very comfortable, a good temperature and hence very cosy.
Room 3 did not have an en-suite - not a problem as long as you aware.
- Tom (3/5): Poor - Lovely staff, very accommodating, very good pizza house Shower not working, bathroom lights faulty, overpriced room
- Judy52 (7/5): It was good enough for a one night stay - Warm comfortable room
Breakfast was excellent Something bleeping in the corridor outside all night 🥴
The entrance and hallways were untidy and unwelcoming
Rain came in through the fireplace during the night
- Helen (8/5): Very good -
- Amanda (10/5): outstanding customer service 👏 - staff are amazing! rooms are dated and need upgrading.
- Claire (8/5): Walking with Sam Culley - Good location nice little town. Liked the drinks available cocktails and the food was excellent especially the pizza Nothing to dislike it was suitable for what we wanted and the price paid was excellent
- Keith (9/5): Huntsman B&B Cheadle, good nights sleep & about 15 minutes to Alton towers - The guy behind the bar seemed disinterested, he showed us our room then swiftly left, no time to ask about breakfast times or anything else, hence we missed it!
The room was spotlessly clean, bed was really comfortable, the room was a little cold until the heating came on at about 3am.
The bathroom/toilet was down the corridor which was a little nerving in the middle of the night but this was stated on the booking & it was a locked room especially for us.
The lady we spoke to in the morning was really friendly & apologetic about breakfast (nothing like the guy the night before)
Would we stay here again? Probably yes.
Would we recommend it? Yes External bathroom & the bar staff!
- Shannon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nairn (8/5): Very good -
- Katarzyna (5/5): Too expensive for this standard - Our room was big which was a comfort and the food was really nice. Also food prices were good. The whole place definitely needs some renovation, carpet must be changed and the mattress was not comfortable. On the second day the toilet paper was missing and it was not filled up.
- Claire (8/5): Comfy beds, clean rooms, excellent breakfast! - Breakfast was amazing, freshly made to our specifications. Bathroom was a little tired and rusty but clean.
- Felicity (8/5): Alton Towers 1 night stay - Warm, inviting & charming. Beautiful fireplaces in every room. Fantastic staff, very friendly and lovely breakfast. Chair covers stained but clean. a few cobwebs around the radiators
- Liz (9/5): Superb - Location was amazing. Food stunning and staff Uber friendly
- Melissa (7/5): Great location, friendly staff, delicious breakfast. - The breakfast was delicious.
The room was reasonable.
I had been concerned you may get noise from the pub downstairs but I didn't hear any.
Overall decent stay and very handy for Alton Towets. The room could do with some improvements so that it matched it's price point. For instance a couple of the bathroom fittings were either rusty or dirty. Maybe a Smart TV.
- Douglas (8/5): Very good -
- Fiona (8/5): Very good - Staff were wonderful and good food Beautiful room with tiny double bed and used hairbrush in bedside drawer. I understand that it's difficult to maintain these old buildings but sleeping area needs renovating.
- Leah (8/5): We had a brilliant stay here, the staff were very accommodating and friendly and it was great value for money. The bed w - Cosy and comfy
- Rebekah (8/5): Lovely staff. Lovely food but bedrooms need updating. - The restaurant cooked pizza in an outdoor oven. Didn’t clean under the bed.
Bedrooms need updating.
- Amanda (5/5): Passable - The staff at breakfast where amazing. Me and my son were kept up till around 2 am . on Sunday as there were ppl still in the bar directly below our room. So having to travel bk to Glasgow with very little sleep with a autistic child was not ideal.
The shower was very poor also.
- Andrews (8/5): Very good - Food was excellent Shower was poor
- Claire (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
- Sheila (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent in everyway for our needs.
- Joanne (6/5): For the price it was good just a few easy fixes to carry out - Staff were very friendly and attentive, bed was very comfy. Pizzas in the restaurant were amazing. Cleanliness, floor hadn't been vacuumed, other peoples hair clips and hair. Heater in closet very dusty so when we pulled it out it wasn't ideal, shower needs attention with silicone and door.
- Marvyn (8/5): Great spot great food better staff - Great spot the guys there really couldn’t do enough, great alfresco type dining area and great food too
Breakfast was spot on Nothing
- Rheagan (7/5): A great little stay for our family trip! - Staff were lovely. Breakfast was fab. Really accommodating! Beds were interesting as we shared the family room, one was okay but the other bed was so noisy when moving in the night!
- Dibben (5/5): Passable -
