- LikeToEattt (10/5): Farmstay - This was a great converted farm into guest houses. Very nicely done and super well thought out. We love the use of the old space into a modern accommodation. The location is ideal if you don’t mind being just outside of town. We love being in a peaceful setting but with ez access to the essentials. Would love to stay again sometime.
- Francoise (8/5): havre de paix en pleine campagne charentaise - C'est un endroit parfait pour être au calme et se ressourcer. Le propriétaire est très accueillant. La piscine est belle. Seul petit bémol, le cottage dans lequel je séjournai, était un peu sombre. Mais, je pense que d'autres sont plus lumineux. L'avantage est qu'on peut y cuisiner, il y a tout ce qu'il faut. L'ensemble est très propre. J'y retournerai avec plaisir.

Prix très abordable, fort probabilité d'y refaire un séjour si l'occasion se présente. L'autre point fort est l’accueil, personne chaleureuse et serviable ;)

- 271frankk (6/5): Surrounding is very nice - We reserved a studio and when we arrived around 17:00 the owner was not there although it was stated in the booking email that reception hours are between 4 and 6pm. Lucky that one of the France guests could phone the owner and knew where the key of the studio was. The owner told him that he is on his way. After waiting for 1.5 hours we decided not to wait for the owner anymore and went for diner into the village nearby. The same email said that WiFi is available in all areas and is free of charge. But... you need a passcode and as the owner is not there and there is NO information at all in the room, we did not had internet. They mentioned on the booking site, that it is equip with a flat screen TV. Only they did not mentioned is only 50 cm. My laptop screen is even bigger..... not sure how you can watch something on TV when you are sitting on the couch. The toilet flushing system was also not working, which is very annoying. The studio itself looks good, downstairs there is a small kitchen and living room and a small bedroom with a bunk bed and on the first floor there is a nice bedroom with a nice big bed. The environment is nice, clean and very quiet. Nice areas to walk or cycle. The city nearby is also nice to visit and have a good meal. There is no breakfast included and this makes the price of the studio a bit less attractive as in the neighborhood there are other rooms with breakfast for more less the same price. But if you do not mind WiFi, very small TV and if the toilet is working correctly then it is worth to book this place.

Le studio était très coquet avec poutres et pierres apparentes, une belle salle de bain avec cabine de douche confortable et tout le nécessaire pour cuisiner. Le lit était grand et la literie excellente avec un placard pour ranger les vêtements. Une petite table et 2 chaises pour les repas. Un véritable hâvre de paix dans un décor rustique et champêtre. Je recommande absolument

- Carol (4/5): Not as advertised - There never was anyone at the office to help even during posted times. The wifi was sketchy at best and needed to be rebooted constantly. The apartment was not well appointed. They did have a washing machine on premise which I used; however, there is no dryer. I was given a metal dryer that I set up next to the heater to get them dried. I was not enamored of the property.

Les rideaux de la chambre du haut sont fins et laissent passer la lumière, cette même chambre a une poutre qui donne sur la pièce du bas et au dessus pas de cloison donc la lumière qui passe, dans le coin repas un petit spot qui éclaire à peine la pièce, une salle d'eau qui sent la moisissure (malgré la vmc. elle n'est pas en continu ce qui peut expliquer cette humidité). Les oreillers étaient des galettes (besoin d'être changés). Sinon appartement spacieux, calme, murs en pierres apparentes sol en pierres anciennes.

L'accueil est sympathique. Le cadre verdoyant avec piscine. Un endroit typique à 7 km de St Jean d'Angély. Je recommande aussi pour le calme. Et le stationnement facile. Il faut prévoir les articles de toilette.

Nos amis ont loué pour des cottages pour 6 ...Magique 😀.C’est un endroit idéal pour se retrouver en amis ou en famille. Je recommande fortement les cottages pour 6 qui eux sont eux plus spacieux et très confortables. La propreté est irréprochable. L’espace dédié aux enfants est top . Les propriétaires sont accueillants et discrets.

- m1927w (10/5): Brilliant one night stopover - Needed a place to stopover on the way from st malo to Bordeaux. Stunning cottage complex close to main autoroute (about 5 mins from exit), lovely family complex with around 10 very homely cottages/apartments. Self catering and courtyard allows you to eat and cook outside in view of other guests but not being on top of each other. Pool was great, kids park a brilliant and ideal surprise along with trampoline. Kept our 5 year old entertained! No shops etc on site but supermarkets close by. Would not think again about booking this lovely stop next year. WiFi good and free also.
- Galwaypro (10/5): Great people and place to stay, beautiful part of France - Great sense of charm and tranquility about the Domaine, Dave and Priscilla were excellent hosts, warm and inviting and the Courtyard in the evening was a hive of activity with families chilling and mingling with each other, and yet u had that sense of space of your own time, Charming part of France, yet very commutable to La Rochelle , Royan, Bordeaux etc, highly recommend for some quality family time, friends or personal time. I have been here several times and I always look forward to visiting very much
- junior_pro (8/5): Lovely stay, bit of food for thought for improvements - Positives: Highlights would include the courtyard area where families could eat outside their own properties but we still felt we had an element of privacy. There was loads of other space for the kids to play safely - the trampoline was a hit - but loads of room for football, cricket and even enough for my seven year old to practice some golf. The morning arrival of the boulangerie van was a nice touch. It's great not to have to start the day with a drive to bakery or yesterday's pastries. The pain aux raisins were enormous and superb. The pool area was nice and the pool very clean if a little cool at times but safe - younger children can't get in with the fence and gate effective! Location is v good for local towns, markets and walks and good beaches are 45-85 mins away depending on how far you want to drive. Our highlight was a day out walking to and visiting the Chateau de Crazannes with its Puss in Boots history. The walk was completed in Port d'Enveaux where we swam in and canoed up and down the river. Negatives: Most disappointing, for a rental that cost more than £200.00 per night, was that the internet on the site didn't reach as far as our property, so you had to sit outside the office to get online. And even then it was sporadic and you were sharing bandwidth with 20 other devices so occasionally very slow. I don't want to spend my holiday online but i needed to stay in touch with work sadly and this made it very difficult. Also, on only day of rain it meant standing outside in the rain to get some information on where we could go. Also for this kind of price I would hope for a proper oven rather than a microwave with that functionality. Kitchen supplies were also little on the random side, in excess of 50+ plates and bowls for three-bed house but no colander. Final thought was that the linen was either a little low on quality or a little over-used. It was perfectly clean but felt scratchy against the skin, not great in warm weather.
- janieash (10/5): Wonderful, relaxing, rustic, rural holiday - At the end of August 2015 we and friends stayed here as we were attending a wedding. In fact the whole complex was filled with wedding guests for 4 days. It was a mix of families with kids and couples and it worked for everyone. This place is quite magical, very peaceful and because of that everyone felt very chilled out. It's not posh but it's comfortable and clean and we had a coffee maker!! The pool is really lovely and the managers were very helpful. Definitely recommended if you want to forget all the stresses of work and just relax. We'll be back sometime soon.
- ColinG1234 (10/5): Mr Colin Greensmith - Stayed for a week 21st - 28th June. Clunky check in - reception not manned for 4pm - 7pm check in window. Had to call and email owners to let them know we were there, a little more direction on "what to do" if unmanned would be better serving following a 3am start. However, that was pretty much where the disappointments ended. We enjoyed a fabulous week in a beautiful environment. The "owners" BBQ didn't happen - a shame as the place was pretty heavily occupied for the week we were there, but the owner supplied us with a BBQ to use, and kindly supplied the coals and the fire lighters too! Thanks for a brilliant week, and for being so kind and so considerate towards li'l Will!! We hope to come back!
- Baynsey1 (4/5): Family week in France - We visited Domaine de la Laigne in April 2015. We booked through Travelbird and got a great deal for a three bedroom cottage. I also emailed the owner Priscilla in advance to clarify which cottage we would have as I knew from the website there were 15 in total of different sizes and Travelbird didn't specify except to say it was a three bedroom. The reason I wanted to confirm this for is we have two young children and my mother who has osteoporosis so struggles with too many stairs. So I wanted to make sure it was appropriate. Priscilla responded and confirmed we would be allocated "L'Ecurie, one of our best cottages" which would have been a perfect layout as a bedroom and bathroom downstairs for my mother and sister to share so no worries about her struggling with stairs. And 2 bedrooms upstairs for myself my husband and children with a 2nd bathroom. Decided to travel from Dover to Calais by ferry and drive down on the day. It was myself, my husband, our 3 and 6 year old and my mum (65) and older sister. It was a very long journey from Sussex coast to the cottage starting at 5.30am. We arrived at around 8.30 - 9pm in the evening after a massively long drive. We had to make some stops for our young girls as it as was very far. We couldn't made it any sooner. When we arrived it was dark and there was no sign of life and no notes to indicate where we go for our keys. We had to knock on one of the cottage doors for help to find them. After speaking to one of the holiday residents, we knocked the owners door who lives on site to be greeted by Priscilla. Unfortunately her first words were "you're very late" and she was not happy about this. She took us to reception and proceeded to tell us the deposit payable (which we expected as usual) and of the fine of 30 euros for late check in. There was no welcome and she was very rude and abrupt that she had been put out at this time. She said we were meant to check in before 7pm. Bearing in mind we left at 5.30am from England and drove all day this was very disappointing and upsetting to encounter on arrival. We were exhausted and my girls had been in the car all day. We were never advised that we had to arrive before 7pm (only after 4pm) by TravelBird or by Priscilla in the prior email correspondence. We refused to pay this "fine" as she actually lives on site anyway. She frostily took us to the cottage. It was cold as it was evening and no heating or hot water on ready and no logs available to buy for the open fire they provide. When we looked around the cottage there were 3 bedrooms upstairs and one bathroom upstairs. No bedroom downstairs as promised and when I asked if this was the cottage that was confirmed (L'Ecurie) she said no she had given this away to other guests. At this point we couldn't believe it as a starting point for a holiday and asked if she had something else more suitable to what had been promised. She said no but might be able to look tomorrow. It was a lovely cottage nevertheless and very clean but not ideal for my mum with the stairs and only one bathroom between 6. We settled in anyway and determined to have a good holiday despite the awful reception we had received. The next day she showed us an alternative accommodation which was above her residence with four lots of stairs to the apartment and it wasn't a cottage it was an apartment so this was completely unsuitable for my mum. So we stayed in the one in which we received for the whole week anyway. We had a lovely time in France and made the most of it. Weather was good and we had a BBQ one of the days (buy your own coal as they don't supply this) and visited La Rochelle and Rowan which was lovely. Brought our bikes and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. The small town of St Jean D'angeley was very nice to visit and we went to a very nice restaurant here and also a super delicious creperie. We bought our BBQ meat from the towns market so it was nice and fresh. On a big note the holiday is advertised with swimming pool. However this is not available despite requesting to use it as we had great weather and certainly hot enough to want to use on a few of the days. Priscilla said no on asking and it would not be open until June. We were very disappointed as have children and my sister is a swimmer who was looking forward to using the advertised pool. We didn't receive our bottle of wine as promised with Travelbird as a welcome and this wasn't offered to us when we purchased wine from her reception. There are no instructions on how to the use fire place and Priscilla didn't know either. We worked it all out ourselves in the end including the water and heating as there were no instructions or help for this. I also didn't see a fire alarm in the property which I was worried about with children so take your own! When we left Priscilla came to collect her money for the bike hire as they did supply a bike and we left the property clean and tidy. I love France and we did a lovely time with my family. We have travelled extensively all over the world and we have never received such a bad reception when arriving and little assistance throughout the week with anything we might need to know or help with. After the difficult start with Priscilla any communication was not very forthcoming. I would never go back here due to the attitude of the owner and her rudeness. It's a shame as its a lovely place but customer service skills need much improvement.
- 9jamm11 (10/5): Beautiful, restful, comfortable place with very friendly, helpful owners and great atmosphere. - We stayed in one of the cottages on the courtyard; it was very clean and comfortable and soon felt like home. We really enjoyed sitting outside in the courtyard for all our meals and even sharing a bbq with other residents. The weather was fantastic - not too hot but with beautiful blue skies and at night it was extremely peaceful. The Tuesday evening meal (optional at extra cost) was a great idea and a fantastic ice breaker so that those people who wanted to socialise could do so. The swimming pool was very clean and a reasonable size. The owners couldn't do enough to make your stay comfortable and were always ready with help or advice and even offered a bread delivery service in the morning or bicycles to rent for the day. The surrounding countryside is pretty and St Jean D'Angely was most charming. There are many places to visit within about an hour's drive. We would not hesitate to recommend the Domaine and wish David and Priscilla well with their new business adventure!
- KatieB677 (10/5): Fantastic Family Holiday - We have just returned from the most idyllic two week break at The Domaine. On arriving the hosts David and Priscilla were warm and welcoming, they have recently taken over the Domaine and nothing was too much trouble throughout the holiday. We stayed in the beautiful Les Thermes Gite and were so impressed, the space is amazing, everything you need as a family and overlooks the courtyard. Main living space with kitchen, 3 bedrooms, main bathroom, toilet and an on-suite shower. I believe there are 15 Gites in total and guests were a mixture of English, French and Dutch. Our three children (13, 9 and 4) soon made friends and were in their element. The pool was very clean and never busy, the little shop supplied very good French wine (according to my father who also came with us). The buildings and style of the Gites are so beautifully French and the sun was out for most of the trip. We spent day trips to Royan, La Rochelle, visited the beaches at Fouras and Chatellion Plage, as well as meals in Saintes and the closest town St Jean D'Angeley which is very pretty. If you are driving down from Calais we stopped at Le Mans which is an ideal break. We had many BBQ's and made some lovely friends, I really hope we can come back here.
