Guest Reviews
- Soo (9/5): Excellent stay - thank you - Very helpful staff, the room was lovely and we had a really good night sleep. Fabulous location for beautiful scenery and close to the wedding venue we were attending. I would recommend The Leicester Arms. Only one downside. At breakfast we were served by a member of staff with dreadful BO which rather put us off our breakfast. However this feedback rather than any criticism because the member of staff was so helpful and friendly.
- Clare (8/5): Attentive staff, made very welcome, including the dog. Lovely historic building, great decor - Very tasty and served when we asked for it No marmite!
- Colin (10/5): A memorable stay, Staff were amazing and The room and facilities made our stay really lovely. Could have easily stayed l - Amazing room, comfortable, beautiful, staff were really accommodating and friendly. Definitely recommend a stay Absolutely nothing
- Malcolm (9/5): Very good and we would return to the hotel if in the area again. - Everything was very good. Staff were extemely helpful, TV program choice on the TV in room was very limited and we missed programs we would normally watch. Son's room was able to access these.
- Julie (10/5): - Great breakfast, comfortable beds, amazing newly refurbished rooms. Quaint and historical and refurbished in keeping with the historic pub. Quiet in the rooms and a nice atmosphere downstairs. Staff very helpful and food locally sourced and delicious.
- Martin (9/5): Lovely pub in a great location - Lovely old pub and very courteous staff. Excellent dinner and comfortable stay. Will return!
- simon (10/5): very comfortable, good room layout. i had the fish and chips that was amazing. - delightful property, the staff were excellent, room and food was the highest quality.
- sean (9/5): -
- Paul (5/5): Ridiculous price for good room and barely average food - Bed was very comfortable Evening meal was very disappointing. Room was noisy and draughty.
- Thomas (9/5): We had a marvelous time with very friendly staff - The location and atmosphere and staff It was a bit busy and very warm / hot in the rooms. The reception was not so clear, we walked in and did not know who to talk to. The bar man or go to the restaurant.
- Stuart (7/5): -
- Amy (10/5): VIP treatment. - A beautiful property in a lovely location for walking and exploring the area. We visited as a group for a birthday and the manager Tom really made it extra special. The food was also excellent and I would love to visit again.
- Andrew (10/5): Lovely stay - Loved my stay here in the most delightful hotel\pub located in the historic village of Penshurst. Nothing.
- Louise (8/5): - Beautiful country inn and restaurant in a stunning location. Comfortable bed, great shower and products. Dog friendly. No full length mirror in the bedroom, £40 dog charge is absolutely excessive. Food pricey in the restaurant.
- Ian (10/5): - 10/10 lovely country pub/restaurant
- Crawford (10/5): - Lovely country hotel with a good beer selection and menu
- amanda (10/5): Very comfortable and exceptional dinner - Very friendly and welcoming Nothing
- Rebecca (10/5): Gorgeous rooms and delicious food - A great stay right from the start the manager and staff were helpful and friendly. I was particularly touched when the chef made an off menu option for my autistic son as he was unable to manage any of the listed items. The rooms were beautifully set out and the bed was so comfortable. I usually struggle to sleep away from home but not here. I also loved the toiletries were Bramley (my fave) it added a touch of luxury to an already luxurious stay. The food in the restaurant was top notch and I can’t speak highly enough of the staff and manager who all went out of their way to ensure a warm welcome and comfortable stay.
- William (8/5): Very nice country hotel - Location No handles for exiting the bath/shower
- Graham (10/5): - Dinner was excellent; breakfast very slow, expensive and not up to expectations
- Paul (10/5): -
- John (8/5): - A very pleasant inn with a good restaurant. Helpful pleasant staff. Beware: some rooms have windows opening to a space where a very powerful and noisy extractor fan is located. It is switched off at night. JB
- Glynis (7/5): Beautiful building, comfortable room, but very very hot and lots of stairs - Beautiful property. Listed. No air can, tiny window in a room in the attic, (air con not allowed as listed) and we stayed on an incredibly hot day. Our room was tiny and I could not get cool for sleeping.
- Rob (7/5): - Lots Not much
- Daniel (10/5): My Best Hotel experience - Tom, Rhianna, well the entire staff made me feel like I was a part of the family. The room was extremely comfortable, the food was great(definitely some of the best food I’ve had whilst in England) and never took long. If I could pack up the entire hotel and staff and take it wherever I travel I would. That’s how good my stay was. If I’m ever in that area of England I will be staying there!
- Nigel (5/5): Liked the bar but the rest no - Lovely bar and food The room was like a prison cell small window not enough light very hot nowhere to put makeup on
We stayed 2 nights it wasn’t cleaned 2 day nothing was replenished
- Peter (8/5): - This is a lovely hotel, we stayed in the Rosemary Room; spacious, good storage and facilities, comfortable.
Last time we stayed here the food wasn't good, had an expensive steak dinner which was poorly cooked, very over salted so we didn't dine this time but might give it a try again next time we're here. Over all it's a great place to stay, we usually always stay 2-3 nights, last year we stayed a week.
- Marc (10/5): - Charming olde English Inn with beautiful garden in the back.
- Claire (5/5): - Location Food was not good, especially the hummus dish.
- McReynolds (9/5): - The location and the quality of the venue ..
- Cook (9/5): -
- Ian (10/5): - Historic inn, great food- especially the breakfast (homemade sausages, homemade bacon etc) which is the best fried breakfast i have ever eaten and i’m almost 60, lovely room, great shower and coffee facilities (with homemade cookies)
- Kevin (10/5): Leicester Arms - Superb experience great location, staff and good. I recommend highly.
- Crawford (10/5): - Really good hotel with a good restaurant, ideal for a base to visit the surrounding area.
- Joe Rolls-Royce (10/5): - Very nice old pub
- Luke (4/5): - Lovely Staff, But Serious Issues with the Room – 19 July Stay
The staff at the Leicester Arms couldn’t have been nicer or more willing to help. They even left a kind handwritten card apologizing for the bathroom flood and the fan noise, which was appreciated. Unfortunately, the room itself had major issues that really let the stay down.
We were in the most expensive suite, yet it was stiflingly hot on arrival. Opening the windows let in a deafening roar from a fan on the flat roof — clearly the reason they’d been shut. Later, the shower leaked heavily, flooding the floor. When reported, the manager admitted it was a known issue. I used our towels to mop up and had to ask for more.
To make matters worse, the room filled with flies, presumably from the kitchen. I was told the fan would stop by 8:45pm, but it was still going strong at 10pm. No room change was offered. Then at 8am, the fans restarted, ruining any chance of a restful morning.
I questioned why this room is still being sold at over £200 a night with unresolved issues. The staff tried their best, but the experience fell well short of expectations. I left disappointed and wouldn’t stay again unless these problems are properly addressed.
- Chris (10/5): - Lovely quaint country inn
- Paul (10/5): - One of the finest pub stays in southeast England.
- Phil (9/5): Nice place to stay and eat. Recommended. - Nicely done up rooms - everything tasteful. Loved the restaurant evening meals and breakfast. Staff very professional. This is picky but a reserved spot in the pub car park would have made for a more relaxing early evening return. There was a spot however.
- Michael (10/5): wedding nearby 2 night stay - Would highly recommend staying here all the staff so helpful, the room excellent decoration.Breakfast superb had to have breakfast on second morning as well. Will most certainly be coming back
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A lovely countryside stay. The pub is beautiful, a great mix of an old pub with modern design. Everything feels lovely and clean. Huge beds!
I would say though, we stayed on a Sunday and the road out the front on the Monday morning was quite noisy (rush hour, bin men and gas refill right outside the window of our room). I doubt the rooms were full with it being a Sunday, so it would have been good if they put us out the back. If you can, request a room at the back of the building!
- Tom (10/5): Extremely friendly staff. Made feel extremely welcome. Would definitely recommend to friends. Dinner - Extremely friendly staff. Made feel extremely welcome. Would definitely recommend to friends. Dinner was excellent. NA
- Hamish (10/5): Most enjoyable. We would certainly stay in the Leicester Arms again - The room was very spacious and well prepared . The bed was very comfortable and all the arrangements over the provision of food and drinks were excellent None
- Sarah (8/5): Lovely place steeped with history - Old wordly
- Wayne (9/5): Superb -
- Alder (9/5): Outstanding place beautiful. Priced accordingly - Beautiful location outstanding building beautifully renovated. All designed neat clean new A bit pricey
- Cecilia (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely old building nice and clean Felt that the cost was excessive, no breakfast included and when enquired about slightly early check-in they wanted to charge extra, even though the room was ready! It isn't even central London!!!!
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trisha (10/5): Friends bday celebration 24 hours of very good happy time thank you L Arms - Friendly helpful staff carried all our luggage in brought welcome drink to my room
Very cosy
Amazing food
- Abi (7/5): Friendly, helpful team, lovely surroundings, just a shame about the bed situation. - Beautiful building, sympathetically renovated. Fabulous bedrooms and facilities. Friendly staff. The broken, noisy, uncomfortable bed and the 6:30 wake up call from door in hallway outside!
- Ankia (10/5): - Had a great stay as a getaway weekend. Highly recommend this new gem we found!
- Malcolm (9/5): Superb -
- Grant (8/5): Very good -
- Jack (10/5): - Good
- Emily (10/5): - A lovely place for a weekend getaway. Lovely room, and great food in the restaurant.
- Cowin (9/5): Great pub rooms, more like a boutique hotel - Amazing food, cosy but elegant dining room
High quality refurb, perfectly styled
Comfy beds. Quality bathroom. Welcome cookies! Nothing!
If really nit picking, rooms quite cosy, but common to many old or characterful hotels
- Heather (7/5): Good - Very cosy country getaway. Our room was beautiful. We stayed in the Cobnut Suite. The most comfortable hotel bed we’ve ever stayed in and the bathtub and shower was so luxurious. We loved walking in and hearing the classic music playing, such a lovely welcoming touch. We had lunch and dinner in the hotel, the food was such good quality, absolutely delicious Unfortunately the staff, we felt, didn’t deliver the service you’d have expected in such a lovely venue. Lunch time was busy and of course we didn’t mind service being slow, we finished our mains then was asked if we’d like dessert which we politely declined and asked for our bill so we could get checked into our room. when we asked for our cheque, the waiter seemed annoyed, and wouldn’t bring it to us until we reminded him.
The front desk was unattended so I went to the bar to ask if we checked in there, the barman told us to wait in the corridor by the front desk and said he’d send someone over. My husband went to get our luggage from the car and I waited to get checked in. 15 minutes later, the waiter who served us at lunch came to the desk, by this point there were a few guests also waiting to check in, it got quite crowded and uncomfortable so we were happy to pay and get our key.
We had booked a table for dinner at 8pm but decided to get a drink in the bar first. My husband went to the bar to order, the barmaid seemed annoyed that we had ordered cocktails, so we felt guilty, but she continued to make the drinks. We asked if the drinks could be charged to the room which seemed to confuse her so we paid upfront.
We were seated at 8pm, we ordered more cocktails, starters and mains. At 8.45pm, our starter arrived (oysters) but we still hadn’t received our drinks. When the waitress came to collect our empty starter plates she asked if we had received our drinks yet, she apologised and went to get them from the bar. We ordered the steak for our mains which we didn’t mind taking a bit more time. By the time we finished it was quite late and we decided to go back up to our room but no one came to take our bill. We walked to the front of the restaurant and asked to put the bill on our room which the waitress said they didn’t do, we didn’t understand that as we were staying in the same place but we didn’t want to make a fuss.
- Vanessa (10/5): - Stay was great. Excellent service, food and accommodation. Room very hot with heating off. Fan provided
- Mervi (10/5): Cosy Penshurst hotel. - A fantastic 2 night stay in Penshurst. Hotel is really cosy and tastefully decorated. Open fires in bar area. We ate in the restaurant both breakfast and dinner and both were excellent. Great base for touring the local area which had a lot to offer.
- Rosemary (9/5): Superb - Charming property All rooms upstairs
- Sarah (3/5): Poor -
- Elaine (10/5): A very good place to stay. We would happily visit again. - The Leicester Arms was lovely to stay at. The age of the place was very interesting nd the refurbishment this year has been very well done in our view. Nothing.
- Thayer (9/5): Superb -
- Barbara (10/5): A wonderful historical property oozing with charm and the staff and meals were wonderful. -
- Juliet (10/5): The best beds ever !!! - THE most comfortable beds and bed linen i have ever come across whilst working away which i do regularly.
Lovely surounding areas.
The food and service was excellent.
Will definitely stay again on my next business trip down south.
- Nigel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely rooms
Fab food
Everyone was so friendly and helpful
Highly recommend
- Andrew (9/5): Excellent - Excellent all round Country Inn pub and resturant food was excellent and great choice Internet went missing in the room and mobile signal weak, but its not really a critisism
- Ian (10/5): - Great place to stay
- Joshua (10/5): - Lovely weekend stay at the Leicester Arms. Beautifully decorated property with lovely pub downstairs. Great attention to details in the room and quiet nights sleep. Definitely recommend.
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (9/5): Perfectly located for a visit to Penshurst Place and a very enjoyable overnight stay. - Very comfortable night in a smartly presented room with spotlessly clean en-suite shower room. Tea/coffee-making facilities with fresh milk, tv and radio -what more can anyone need? We only wanted a small meal in the evening and the small plates on the menu were exactly what we hoped for. We didn't have the cooked breakfast next morning, but the granola bowl was excellent. Our stay was most enjoyable and we highly recommend The Leicester Arms.
- Alison (9/5): Superb - Everything Room very noisy with kitchen air conditioning unit beneath my room !
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Stacy (10/5): - Beautiful stay with wonderful food!
- Dave (10/5): Lovely stay, lovely staff - Loved the character of the place. The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff in both bar and restaurant were first class including the gentleman who kindly gave us four taxi numbers for our wedding trip to Hever Castle. Excellent stay. Nothing, absolutely nothing.
- Paul (10/5): - This spectacular Inn is a genuine English treasure. The staff were a delight - like staying with family friends. First class service. The food was exquisite. The room was perfect and quaint. Must stay!!
- Winfield (8/5): Quality hotel in heart of Kent countryside - Great for walking. Pleasant gard5n, quality ambience. Good vibe among staff. Restaurant and bar. Bedding. Room was hot and window didn't open. Air-conditioning unit would have been nice
- Jonclayton (8/5): Historic comfort in Kent - Staff were very friendly. Room was very comfortable. Food was a little pricey but very good.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Della (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location, beautiful room and beautiful food.. I honestly don’t have anything bad to say about this place. Clean, classy and full of historical character. A place I would highly recommend and will be back to stay again for sure!!
- Luke (10/5): Lovely decor, friendly staff and fantastic food. - My wife and I stayed here recently for an impromptu getaway and we felt like we'd stepped into The Holiday. It was a very cute and quaint village with decor that matched. We could tell a lot of effort had gone into every detail and we'd highly recommend for anybody looking for a relaxing stay.
- Kathy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional - The manager allowed me to cancel an extra room that had been booked by mistake
- Davinia (10/5): Outstanding - Very good staff, all the details taken care of! Outstanding
- Catherine (10/5): Relaxing and enjoyable. - I loved the bath in the room most just because I only have a shower at home. The bed was comfortable, the location idyllic and the breakfast very delicious. Only staying one night. I would have liked to stay longer and explored the area more.
- Beatriz (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful hotel and location. The staff are very professional and friendly. Great breakfast. Although rooms are lovely it would be great to have a fan in the hot weather as it can be stuffy. Also it would be nice to have a full length mirror in the bedroom or a mirror to be able to blow dry hair.
- Sarah (8/5): - Polite people and lovely new management stylish
Lovely food
Nice accomdation
- Alan (5/5): Disappointing considering the location and price. - Restaurant and standard of food were good
Location was excellent
Exterior seating was good Rooms were on 2nd floor under sloping roof and were uncomfortably hot. No fan provided
Rooms had very little storage. One of our rooms had no drawers.
THERE WERE NO FIRE INSTRUCTIONS! One wonders if this is legal?
Kitchen had a "can't do" attitude.
- Kirsty (9/5): Cosy country pub with spacious comfortable bedrooms - Very comfortable well decorated rooms with nice small touches like home made biscuits and good toiletries
- Timo (9/5): Superb -
- Lee (5/5): Nice location and nice place but rooms and that generator was a hot bloody nightmare - We loved the location and village and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Our room was a nightmare in the sense so warm it was next to the generator which loud or very loud and created more heat you could tell the difference between our room and the rest of hotel and the service was either too fast so wasn’t enough time between course or so slow took 45 minutes to breakfast
- Crawford (10/5): - A very nice hotel. Food was excellent andcthe staff welcomming
- Verified traveler (6/5): 2 Night break - Just a quick 2 night break for our anniversary.
Staff were lovely but food was a let down for both evenings.
Room petty basic with no A/C so hot & stuffy.
Asked for a fan but not available.
Web site pictures are great for sales but let down in reality.
- David (7/5): Good -
- RICHARD (8/5): - Very stylish renovation of a beautiful old pub. Restaurant was stunning and food delicious.
- Fabiana (9/5): Superb - Lovely and a joy to stay at! The rooms are really pretty and although compact they are really comfortable: freshly baked biscuits are available with your coffee and tea. Before dinner (which was delicious) we had a walk in the neighborhood which is truly gorgeous. Breakfast was great too and the staff really pleasant and friendly. Would definitely recommend!
- John (9/5): Quiet relaxing retreat in the English countryside - This very small village is the perfect getaway from the busy city. Located steps from a medieval castle which arguably is nicer than Hever it is a gem of a place. Great gastronomy pub , walking trails and comfortable rooms It’s right under the flight path to Gatewick…. Lots of planes
- Marcus (10/5): Great Place to Stay - Fantastic place to stay, breath of fresh air. Superb room with high quality decor and fittings and really nice little touches like cookies in the room with fresh milk in the fridge. Great food in the restaurant served by pleasant staff, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Would love to have tried the breakfast but unfortunately needed to leave early, one thing I think would make this gem better is to offer an early breakfast option as this would have been a big bonus for me, however, this is a lovely place to stay and I will definitely be returning.
- Ian (8/5): Lovely pub and beautifully presented rooms - Place was lovely and got a room upgrade due to a booking complication that was booking.coms fault. One thing and it was such a small thing but annoying too.
Having spent 7hrs on delayed trains I arrived after the kitchen has closed. I asked anyway and the bar team said no as they checked with the chef.
Sat starving tucking into crisps and a pint a team member comes out with a cheese platter from the kitchen for a punter at the bar that team and punters were tucking into.
The bar girl could tell I wasn’t happy. Just thought a wow opportunity was missed there and my money wasn’t as good as the other punters.
Small thing but that why this visit isn’t a 10.
