Guest Reviews
- Douglas (9/5): Not the most modern of hotels but clean, friendly and helpful staff , great cooked breakfasts, and lovely location with -
- Guido (10/5): - We stayed at the White Horse Lodge Hotel on our Cleveland Way Walk and it seemed to be the closest accommodation to Sutton Bank even though it is still about 5 miles away. It is an odd place for a hotel because it does not seem to be close to anywhere and the place was very quiet. But we very much enjoyed staying there. The lady at the reception was very welcoming and professional and also managed the bar and the restaurant. The breakfast was excellent. The room was clean and tidy and very good value for money. It is not a place to write home about but perfectly comfortable.
- Jakub (10/5): Excellent food , good hotel - Food amazing, nice hotel, damn rooster that will wake me up every morning, I hope someone will make broth or stew out of it soon LOL
- Stephen (8/5): Vety nice good staff and lovely views - Had a cooked breakfast was very good and there was a nice choice of jams etc to choose .
It was nice to be able to choice a time for breakfast. Dinner could have been better seemed like it was prepacked meal .
- Dinah (6/5): - The individuality and flexibility of the staff. There was nothing 'corporate' about it.
Generous portions at breakfast and dinner. Plenty of parking. Views from the entrance. The road noise and the cockeral noise at night. The heated towel rail could not be turned off and the bathroom mirror light did not work. The dining area had slot machines in it and was very dowdy and unappealing.
- Michael (9/5): Good - Wether
- nigel (9/5): Breakfast exuberant stay very enjoyable - Everything was excellent but not much room between the toilet and shower I'm a bug lad so very uncomfortable for me to use
- Kenneth (8/5): - The breakfast and evening meals were well cooked. The room was clean.
- Pete (8/5): Welcoming, clean and spacious hotel - The location suited me perfectly for my bike tour, surrounded by beautiful countryside.
The lady working in the evening was very friendly and helpful. The hotel were accommodating storing my bicycle safely. The bar was comfortable and served good basic food, which was what I was after. The room was spacious and comfortable, with a large modern bathroom. The hotel is isolated, which suited me fine especially because they had a bar serving food. However this may not suit everyone.
- David (8/5): It did the job very well for me and is very good value. - Extra service. Leslie was as friendly and welcoming as usual and went the extra mile by finding me a phone charger.
- David (9/5): Short restful visit - Location, light and airy with friendly staff Nothing
- Mark (9/5): -
- Donna (7/5): - The views The price as it was not including b4eakfast had t pay separate and when you see staff come into work with bags of shopping from aldi value money for the hotel but price off breakfast was not applicable due to ingredients been poor stander
- Jones (8/5): It was perfect for my meeds - Breakfast was really good.
My dog was allowed to stay in my room. There were places to take the dog outside in the morning and the evening. She behaved well because she felt at ease. There was nothing which could have been better.
- Simon (10/5): - Great. Friendly staff and easy access to main, local routes. Lovely views.
- Robert (10/5): -
- Brian (10/5): Clean and comfortable - Very clean and in an ideal location for our plans Nothing
- Chloë (9/5): -
- sioned (9/5): Fantastic customer care - The receptionist was a multitasker. She was everything in the place. She ran the place single handed on her shift. The food was lovely and hot by the chef. The 1st room we had was next to a very busy road, with chickens outside making a noise and the heating was not controlled by the customer only the hotel so very hot. They moved us to a back family room which was lovely, quiet but up stairs. So dont request a quiet room if you have mobility issues.
- Ditchburn (7/5): - Convenient Bathroom not much room
- Stephen Roworth (5/5): Not Quite as Promised - The location and the cleanliness. The lack of a family pub atmosphere, which seems to have been exchanged for corporate blandness
- Jonathan (8/5): Quiet hotel with great countryside views - Lovely views and spacious room Bed was high up had to be careful get in and out as feet didn’t touch ground when sat on bed
- peter (9/5): -
- Arnold (9/5): Enjoyed very good value for money one-night stay in very good location with free car parking. - On arrival we were welcomed by Sassia (sorry if I have spelled that incorrectly) who was very nice and helpful. She gave us the front door key, our room key and talked us through things. The room was clean and comfortable with a double bed, tv and bathroom in one room plus two single beds in an adjoining room. It was quiet. There was a free car park alongside the property. Complimentary tea, coffee and milk were provided. Just a few minutes' drive from Thirsk the property has a very good location. A one-night stay in the family room is very good value for money. N/A,
- Julie (10/5): - How nice and clean it is lovely place and a short drive to town centre Nothing
- Leigh (9/5): Good value for a comfortable short stay. - Lovely view from our room across the valley. Owner and chef was wonderful to chat to and looked after our dietary needs for dinner. We only stayed 1 night but comfortable and good value. The eating area could be dressed up a bit.
- Stephen (8/5): - Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good food.
- Harry (8/5): Great value for money, very good food. - Great room with excellent bathroom Rather quiet, lacked atmosphere. Slight room noice from next door.
- Maurin (6/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Excellent relaxing stay - N/a N/a
- Philip (10/5): -
- Judy (8/5): Great location near Thirsk and Sutton Bank - Light airy bedroom with a comfortable bed. I had a ground floor room. East access. Good parking. Next door to fire door and some noisy occupants on one night. Not hotel’s fault though.
- Roger (4/5): -
- James (8/5): Basic, but good service and cleanliness and excellent value for the very low cost - The staff were excellent - very welcoming and helpful - and the room was very clean. Excellent value for the very low price. The room was quite basic and the bathroom was very small with nowhere to put anything in the shower or by the sink. Both are a bit tired.
- Janet (7/5): A bit disappointing overall. - Location is excellent. No staff on duty to access the building on arrival. Doorbell didn't work. I didn't have a phone in me so couldn't ring. Very poor accessibility for disabled people. Needed to hands to open room door- so I had to let go of my walking stick to access my room. Accessibility. Availability of staff. Very little support from staff, they were invisible. Varied level of friendliness depending on who was in duty. Not always welcoming, some just about polite. It felt like it was run in a shoe string. I wouldn't stay again
- Catherine (7/5): Pleasant short stay here - Clean and tidy with everything as expected. Decor a little dated
- Tiziana (8/5): - La struttura si trova lontano dal centro in una zona molto bella tra le campagne. Staff gentile e stanza accogliente con un ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo
- Robert (10/5): -
- Gary (7/5): It did what we needed it to do - Continental breakfast. Okish
Comfortable bed,
Room warm Handrail on both side of stairs up to rooms would be helpfull
Background music at breakfast
- Sean (8/5): Very pleasant stay - Very clean and spacious room
Large bathroom and shower
Excellent breakfast... Great choice and large portion Lack of beer selection in bar
- J SCOTT (9/5): Very good value for money - Spot on
- Sharon (5/5): - The views
Comfortable bed
Staff were nice and helpful for general things Such a shame. The place is lovely and the views spectacular. They tell you, in writing, when you arrive that the rooms are cleaned daily - mine weren't touched for the time we were there (3 nights). It was warm and the bins were starting to smell. Also, the hair dryer is fixed in the socket (i have no problem with that as it stops them walking) but it's not where the mirror is!! I need to be able to see what I'm doing when i dry my hair.
- Bone (5/5): -
- Simon (8/5): Comfortable and spotless. Friendly staff. - Beautiful vozws at the rear of building. Easy accecss to A19/A168.
- Burnham (10/5): -
- Tracey (3/5): Do not book - The views were lovely and the 2 members of staff were trying their best In need of TLC Dirty carpets and carpets Dark and dingy corridors. Evening meal was awful ( frozen pizza for £12! Sausage and mash- mash cold sausage yes 1 was cheap and nasty) Breakfast was horrid, plate of breakfast brought to table without giving any options and while eating cereal, All food lukewarm and dried out 😢 Only good thing about this place are the views and as said the staff Only 2 were on duty, they live onsight and did their best but really wasn’t enough. Would only give 1star definitely no higher
Sorry but avoid
- Davies (9/5): - Friendly lady on reception.. room clean and all we needed for our stay..
- Ian (9/5): Great hotel - Nice hotel with accomodating staff A taxi ride from the nearest town but no real problem
- Katie (4/5): -
- Mélani (8/5): Agradable para descansar - Las habitaciones están muy bien y dispones de bar. No recomendamos la cena.
- Simon (8/5): -
- Graham (8/5): Suitable for our needs - The lady on reception was welcoming and gave specific instructions re our room. The room was comfortable and the bed\bathroom were nice The plumbing when the toilet was flushed was rather noisy and interrupted our sleep for a while
- Anne (10/5): - We arrived very late, I let them know beforehand and they were very accommodating.
- James (10/5): - Lovely staff very nice. Beautiful views. Comfy.
- Valerie (6/5): Disappointed - Our room had marvelous views of the countryside The evening meal was served in an unheated room. They did turn the radiator on but we had finished eating and it was still cold. Our room however was warm.
My husband had the cooked breakfast , the bacon was undercooked and the sausage was overcooked.
I had the continental which consisted of a soggy croissant and a bowl of fruit salad out of a tin.
Not impressed and will not stay there again.
- Carla (8/5): -
- Phil (8/5): Excellent value, great staff, peaceful location - Excellent value, well priced food and friendly staff Room was cold, heating wasn’t very effective
- Mr & Mrs Low (8/5): Lovely hotel with friendly staff - Comfy beds, great breakfast, perfect location to visit Yorkshire especially driving up Sutton bank which has lots of walks and amazing views. Hotel just a few miles out of Thirsk with beautiful views, plenty of parking. Hotel was quiet when we arrived on the monday and Lesley did a great job, greeting us and settling us in, as she completed all the housekeeping tasks from the weekend. We paid for the breakfasts and must say it sets you up for the day, it is a very good breakfast. Lesley also gave us lots of advice on the town of Thirsk, where to eat etc. Hotel got busier next day, but Lesley still cooked & served us breakfast and after a day out in York we had an lovely evening meal at the hotel. Felt at home here and would use again no problem. Very happy, but one thing to mention our shower had a high step in and would not suit everyone
- Andrea (2/5): It could be beautiful but needs a lot of money spent on maintenance. - Location and view We weren’t able to use the plug sockets in room 6 as when touched they gave off flashes of electricity. The lamp did not work. The tv was hanging off the wall with cables hanging down. The toilet rocked when used plus my partner couldn’t use at all as he couldn’t sit down due to the gap between the toilet seat and the shower cubicle being less than 2 inches?! There was never anyone at reception to get these problems rectified. We couldn’t take photos as we were unable to charge our phones.
- Paul (10/5): relaxing and nice weekend - Location was excellent . Lovely views , parking ample . Staff were really helpful and go out of there way to make you stay a nice one . Room was very nice and comfy . Staff were really helpful .
- J SCOTT (8/5): Staff are great and excellent value for money - Location and value for money If your staying on the side near the road it can be noisy
- Philip (10/5): Clean quite lovely staff - Convenient to the town plenty of car parking lovely view Door creaked but that’s being picky
- Sabine (10/5): Excellent value for money, clean and staff friendly - The space, car parking and location Difficult to get taxis due to location from Thirsk centre and can’t walk as country roads but not far in a car
- frank (9/5): -
- Chris (9/5): - All good
Recommended Liked all
- Nicola (10/5): Staff were lovely and couldn’t have done any more for us Breakfast was deliscious too - Views were fantastic. Lovely location. Room a good size snd very comfortable. It was a little dated decor wise but that didn’t affect our stay
- John (6/5): -
- charly (1/5): Terrible. The toilet didn't even flush! - The staff member on front of house was friendly. The shower didn't work properly.
The room was freezing. This was rectified with a n electric heater which took up one of the only two sockets available.
The toilet did not flush.
- Diane (1/5): Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone - Nothing Very noisy road, completely inadequate toilet facilities, shower pathetic, and breakfast was very poor
- susana (7/5): Buena opción para dormir en un sitio económico y limpio - Buenas vistas y buena relación calidad/precio Se oía mucho las habitaciones de al lado
- judith (9/5): A great value stay for the night, clean bed - Excellent stay and service from the staff Nothing
- Olivier (7/5): -

- Susan (9/5): Staff was very welcome and helpful - Easy access of motor way Very clean and very welcome

- Sarah (7/5): Middle of no were - Not much I'm a solo traveller reading bout location I thought it was 1.5 mile to thirsk. Plenty to do for me and my dog. Ooohh no walked to thirsk 1.5 mile from train it was going to be another 2 mile ended up getting a taxi there .
Got there no staff on desk phoned numbers on door several times no reply waiting 45 mins walked arpund hotel and spotted staff. Hotel situated in the middle of no were nothing to do and no walk ways. So i checked out after 1 night stay instead of 3 nights. Staff on desk said i wouldn't get a refund.
As I've been looking forward to 3 nights away . A disaster.

- Annie (10/5): -
- Charlene (5/5): Suitable for a short stay overnight only. - Location, beautiful views It needs updating and decorating. The rooms are tired, old bed bases and furniture , walls and doors were dirty and need repainting and cobwebs on curtain rails and light fixtures.
- Teresa (6/5): - I suffer with a bad back, so the bed wasn't very comfortable for me.
There is no lift, and I struggled with the stairs. It was nice and clean

- Timothy (7/5): OK for stopover between Thirsk and Sutton Bank - OK for a quick one-night stopover, room a fair size, comfortable bed, lots of sockets, quiet despite proximity to main road, adequate parking, wi-fi good (and there is a secure option).
- J SCOTT (9/5): Great value for money, only negative is the road !! - Price Location to the main road
- David (8/5): Exceed our expectations very clean and friendly hotel. We will certainly stay in the future. - The breakfast was very good it was availablefor an early start at 6.30am. Cosy bar area, great menu for food, lovely welcome from Lesley and prices are very reasonable. Food was excellent, Lesley had a quiz that evening, Scotland themed due to Burns Night.
