- Debbie (1/5): Creepy Abandoned Hotel - Nothing, from the outside the place looked dirty and derelict, then rang the bell no one there as it's not manned full time. The room was dark and dated and smelled terrible like cigerettes. The whole place was like an abandoned hotel it was too creepy so we didn't even stay our night ... Very dated, dark smelled like cigarettes, not manned, and the grounds the hotel was in were a complete mess loads of cigarette butts on the floor outside our window. Overall, it looked abandoned from the outside
- Vokounova (1/5): - Vůbec nic Nestrávili jsme v hotelu ani 5 minut,otřesné a hrozne. Paní nereaguje na vrácení alespoň nějaké části. Za hotel na 2 noci jsem zaplatila 13 tisíc korun.
- scott (5/5): It was overall fair - Beds comfortable Noise, no staff, not very on the ball either fire and safety
- Nicola (6/5): -
- Bethany (7/5): Women Was Lovely And Welcoming - The staff where lovely
Bed was comfy
room was warm
Close to the fed were we needed to go There was only about 4 milks rang the number but said would update them later on today which was no good as we were wanting a cup of coffee and checking out at 11 so had nothing at all to drink
Toilet was dirty
Decor needs updated
Says there's a bar we went down no one was there everything locked and in darkness
Maybe spray some air freshener as you walk in as there's a weird smell
Will return if there's any more events on
- Antonia (1/5): - Not much.. unfortunately it was very outdated , dirty , broken bed to list a few
- Tinsley (1/5): Will not stay there again - No breakfast supplied Everything
- Latifah (9/5): - Everything I stayed in Acorn I believe. Whilst everything was fantastic, the smell of sewer in the bathroom was unpleasant. Other than that everything was fine.
- Lee (1/5): -
- Craig (1/5): F*****G S**T - Terrible hotel, rooms and furniture damaged and dated and not clean. No mini bar/fridge, shower ran at a trickle, no bar downstairs, no food served, room shook if a heavy vehicle rode past, DIY work done in rooms was done to a very poor standard, conservatory at back had half its roof missing, leaves all over the floor and cereal boxes still on show from god knows what year. Utter DISGRACE and JOKE that I got charged £168 for one nights stay with my partner, absolutely ROBBED and would never stay there again or recommended it to anyone, not even a stray animal. EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Mohd (6/5): Amazing receptionist - The receptionist. He is so warm and friendly. Bless him Old decor but I think they're working on it. And the location is far but it's ok
- Mark (5/5): Did the trick for the GNR. Comfortable bed. Good location. Don't expect too much though. - Bed was comfortable. Room was clean. Location good. 20 minutes walk to Metrocentre. Not too far from Newcastle City Centre either. Ideal for GNR. No breakfast available. No facilities at the hotel, like a lounge or anything.
- Robert Drazkowski (3/5): - Not much, bed was ok This "hotel" should never be open in this condition. No sound insulation, you can clearly hear guests next door. Dirty room.We heard running rodents at night, not a pleasant feeling. I can honestly say the worst place I've paid to stay in.
- Phoenix (2/5): -
- Tony (1/5): Awful place, don’t bother… - Nothing! No bar or meals as advertised and no breakfast! TV didn’t work, very shabby, and worn out. Not worth the money!!!
- susan (1/5): Horrible - Nothing we left after 20 minutes and luckily found another hotel. I realise now that its price reflected the extremely poor state and Not because it was a quiet Wednesday. We left after 20 minutes - was concerned we might catch something unpleasant.. Dark creepy and dirty with low lighting, shabby dirty interior, stained, sticky in places flooring.
- Nigel (7/5): Jaded Hotel but comfy. - Bed was very comfy. Shower was good. Tea Coffee and towels were refilled/changed on second day out of four. Had to phone Booking.com as no-one was answering door bell or knocks when first arrived. Folk had to come from sister hotel to book me in. Wednesday night rowdies were arguing in corridor all night from 23.30 to 12.30 then again at 02.30. And 07.00.
- Eloise (7/5): Cheap and cheerful. Friendly hosts - Super friendly welcome to the hotel and the staff were very helpful in assisting us in getting into Sunderland (we were here to watch the women’s rugby World Cup). Great price and room was as to be expected for the price. Bathroom did smell very strongly of cigarettes.
- Wilson (1/5): -
- Paula (6/5): Such a shame as this could be a lovely hotel - This place is really run down. The member of staff there is very friendly but clearly out of his depth keeping on top of the place. I saw a review from March complaining about stains on the wall, broken toilet roll holder, stains on the ceiling and a loose toilet seat. I clearly had the same room with the same issues. There was a filthy spare duvet in the cupboard, the sheets had burn marks on them, the curtains were disgusting and the nets had a hole burned into them. The whole room stunk of cigarettes.
Such a shame that the bar and restaurant were closed down and that the place had been poorly maintained as it could be great.
That said, it's cheap, well located and the bed was comfortable.
- Ryan (6/5): Ideal for work nice and cheap nothing special - Cheap Perfect for what it is
- Batty (1/5): Do not stay here - The bed was comfortable. Very dark, couldn't see in windows, net curtain was brown and some even blowing out of open windows. There was a hole in the ceiling, old fashioned, bathroom light didn't work, bathroom very unhygienic, there was mould in drawers and the long life milk was even off.
- Smith (5/5): Disappointing - Staff was pleasant poor reception on arrival, hotel is locked as there is no one stationed to stay at reception throughout the day, so had to wait till one of the guest opened the door as they were heading out, in order for me to enter upon arrival.
House keeping was very poor, the room was dusty and the bins contain garbage from the last guest. the teacups and kettle looked liked they weren't cleaned for days, I was just relieved that I had brought my own cup and cutlery to use as I definitely could not use the ones that were provided.
the plumbing in the toilet area is very poor as I constantly heard flushing sounds from other rooms above mines and water kept trickling Into the toilet bowl everytime someone used the toilet above mines
which made my sleep very restless as this is an ongoing sound heard throughout my stay
the hotel is very close to the road and situated on a corner hence everytime a large vehicle passed by the hotel, the vibration was felt excessively.
- Guest (7/5): Good value for money, you pay £45, you get £45 worth it’s not the10/10 hotel but it’s clean and that’s what mattered - I liked the way the room was, it gave a cottage,
boat vibe. I didn’t like how creaky the floors were as I could hear everyone moving around and the walls must be really thin, as I could hear people next to me very clearly and it kept me awake for a long period of time.
- John (2/5): -
- Sandra (5/5): comfortable enough for the one night - owner very polite and approachable it was dark, the bathhroom light didnt work there was an hole in the ceiling really dated
- Neil (7/5): Good -
- Keerthishree (5/5): Passable - The room is quiet good. The sound from upstairs
- Blackwood (7/5): Good -
- Verified traveler (4/5): .. - hotel had cobwebs all over the bed felt like bricks there was piles of dust all over the floor there was people in and out all night been extremely loud we stood at the check in desk for around 45 minutes waiting for someone to turn up after not been able to enter the building for around 30 minutes the staff was polite but that was the only good part about the hotel
- Giuliano (9/5): Was nice -
- Andy (8/5): No frills ..... - Although the hotel is looking "tired", e.g. light fittings hanging off in the bathroom, I felt safe. Just wanted somewhere to sleep for 1 night, therefore ideal
- Dougie (2/5): - 45 minutes after a resident let us in reception still didn’t answer their phone.
Absolutely shocked how run down the place was and I’ve been working away for 14 + years, never came across anything as bad. OYO, wouldn’t answer their phone either
- Mandy (4/5): Very overpriced, especially considering the condition of the rooms. - It was quiet Very outdated
Rooms very warm
Desperately in need of modernisation and redecoration
- Jillian (5/5): Over priced and could do with a deep clean , also because there’s no staff I couldn’t go back in to get my charger as I - Bedding was clean
Staff were nice when you saw them Bathroom I had the shower wasn’t working properly
The toilet was squeezed in next to the shower and the lid didn’t stay up as the flushing handle blocked it from opening properly
For a woman it wasn’t easy to sit down. As it was so close to the shower cubicle and loo paper was behind on the wall !
- Jacob (1/5): It really should be shut down or completely renovated. - Nothing. How unhygienic, unorganised, dated, battered and dirty it all was.
- Martin (8/5): Cracking budget hotel - Friendly and helpful staff
- Alan (2/5): Very poor -
- Phil (6/5): Insanely comfortable bed, not for the squeamish! - Really difficult to review, at first view it is 0/5, it looked closed, no one answered the door, the car park was untidy, the surroundings were scruffy - but ......... the room was interesting nautical theme, cabin beds, some type of stuff on the side of the cabin bed (not sure what it was). But the room was warm, the beds were insanely comfortable, and there was wifi and a TV in the room.
Some of the fixtures and fittings would shame the 70's, and badly needs a makeover. But you get what you pay for, and for cheap bed for the night, close to a bus stop that takes you into the heart of Newcastle in 10 minutes you cannot go wrong.
So, on balance I would give this 3/5. It is after all a 2 star hotel so I wasn't expecting the Savoy.
- Paul (3/5): Nice owner shame about the smell - Comfy bed Smell of stale tobacco very dated
- Joseph (8/5): Very good -
- John (7/5): Good -
- Nicola (5/5): Passable -
- Lynne (5/5): Never again. My teenager is traumatised. - Only good thing was a clean comfortable bed. Clean towels on both days. Smelt of cigarettes really badly, had to have windows open constantly and keep clothes in zipped suitcase. Had to wash bath as it was really dirty. Shower curtain was dirty and covered in hair. Curtains and windows so dirty. Carpet could do with a wash. Full place can do with a wash. No hot water in the morning for my daughter. Saw a staff member for 1min on checking in and when going out on Sunday. No staff around even when I was looking for refills of milk and tea bags for room.
Got woken up at 5am Sunday morning by people singing and talking really loudly in their rooms. Us and all our belongings smelling of smoke.
- jane (8/5): - need a up date but apart from that sleep very well double bed was so comfortable had a buzzing noise from the light when off
place did smell a lot of smoke
- Steve (8/5): Peace and quite great - Very clean and also quite managed to get much needed sleep. THANKYOU NOTHING
- Jeanette (2/5): Disappointing - Nothing Window rattled all night, smelled strange, toilet very low
- Lonnie (1/5): Bad -
- Neil (4/5): Disappointing - Within walking distance of the Fed brewery
Staff are polite and friendly
Bedding was clean
The room was warm, and the shower was hot. Room could do with a deep clean
Hairdryer didn't work
Extremely dated nautical theme. could do with a complete renovation.
- Turnbull (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kev (8/5): Great short stay, exactly what I had hoped for. - Good value room, clean and comfortable. I checked in quite late and yet received a warm and friendly welcome. Nothing.
- Mark (2/5): - No one there at check in
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The rooms seemed clean enough but there was an overpowering smell of stale smoke. There was a car park at the back of the hotel but as the hotel was situated in an industrial area I drove my family there and collected them in the morning
- Turnbull (1/5): Bad - The fact there was noone there to greet us or check us in had to walk to another hotel nearby to get the keys sorted out having to wait nearly an hour and a half
- Colin (1/5): Last minute booking, paid £40ish quid, stayed 10 mins then left - Short notice booking Stunk of cigarettes, dusty and in need of modernisation , equipment in room looked old
- Mur (2/5): Very poor - Staff was helpful It smelt bad. Linen had holes. The bathroom, bedroom, and carpets were dirty. We felt very insecured there.
- Mike (7/5): pleasant stay at a very reasonable price - nautical theme, wood panelling everywhere , porthole mirrors . beds set up as bunks . quite good . location is good. maintenance required, cobwebs above the bed .
- John (4/5): Was an experience for a night but wouldn’t stay again - Looks like a derelict building. Rooms need upgrading. Front door looked like it had suffered damage and didn’t look secure at all. Cold tap in bathroom was inoperable in bathroom. Had to wait along time to be given a room.
- Bernard (6/5): Pleasant -
- Richie (1/5): Bad -
- Richard (8/5): cheap comfortable and clean - quite outdated and location
- Daniel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ceri (5/5): Passable - The staff members were nice and accommodating. The room could do with updating i.e the linens and towels.
There was black mold around the bath and the hairdryer was dated and didn't work.
The taps for the bath weren't fixed correctly.
You couldn't get a shower because there was no curtain on the window so most people would be able to see in.
- Eileen (7/5): Don't judge a book by it's cover - Good location for a gig at the Riverside in Newcastle; we pub crawled it there and taxi back
Friendly staff
Clean, comfortable room with tea/coffee etc
Bar (private)
Free car park It does look like a derelict building from the outside and the decor is different but that doesn't mean it's not a good place to stay. It offers good value for money and we would definitely stay again if we had another gig to go to.
- Tammy (3/5): Poor -
- Kirsty (8/5): Very good -
- Crampton (1/5): Terrible experience! - Arrived to the hotel to find the people running the hotel passed out drunk. They wouldn't be woken so had to find my own room key. Hotel stank of stale alcohol and cigarettes. Room was dirty and outdated. If I could give a 0/10 I would.
- Syed (7/5): Good -
- Lee (6/5): Pleasant - Clean and comfortable Could do with a freshen up in places bit of a musty smell when I walked in
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional - We needed a base for the night and it had everything we needed. Great value for money
- Stuart (9/5): Would definitely recommend - The room was very comfortable, equipped with everything you'd need and very tidy. Location wise, it's a 5 minute drive to the Metro Centre etc which was ideal. Would definitely recommend. Only thing, and it's purely personal preference, was I found the room a bit too warm when I get there but other than that, no issues at all.
- Jonathan (8/5): Very good -
- John (8/5): Hotel Dora’s what it says on the tin - Good value
- Jack (3/5): Terrible - nothing Very unclean, no staff. Bed was rubbish. Needs updating. Not hoovered. Could hear everything else going on in the hotel. No access to bar. Dated, stained pillows, no place to hang shower head
- Lyons (8/5): Very good -
- Shareef (7/5): Ok overall - Ok Ok
- Graham (3/5): Not very good...would not stay again...staff really friendly and nice - Nothing at all The room waznt wat it waz like wen we booked it and wat it shows online ..very false advertising very old fashion..smelt very musty in the rooms...the kettle didn't Evan work.. the property really needs updating and needs painting
- Waad (4/5): Vinny to improve the quality of service - Nothing Don’t reply on the calls, they let me wait for 15 minutes out in the cold and the rain without telling me that they changed the location
Location
it’s not clean
- Luke (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (10/5): We had a lovely nice break here :) - Friendly staff, easy for bus service links into Gateshead and to train station.
- Oghenetega (1/5): Bad -
- Jim (3/5): Poor not be back - Location was good. Room was very poor. Stains on wall and carpets. Road noise all night and shower was very poor. No wi-fi st all. See above.
- Sutherland (1/5): DID NOT STAY HAD TO MOVE TO ANOTHER PROPERTY IT WAS DISGUSTING - NOTHING EVERYTHING!!
- Bryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (10/5): Love this place - Nice and quiet, love the room, so came back week later for the saturday night on our night off work. Home from home feeling, no hassle at all. Great stuff !!
- Win (7/5): Good -
- Shelia (1/5): Dump - Nothing A dirty hole, shouldn't be allowed to trade.Disgusting.Would rather sleep in a shop doorway than there.
- Ben (6/5): Great for a cheap hotel for a night! - Very friendly staff - and more than reasonably priced.
The main facilities of the room were fine - clean & comfortable bed, fresh towels, tea/coffee available, working tv… The room could do with a deep clean/refresh.
The walls had quite a few stains/marks on - and some in the bathroom were questionable.
There was ALOT of cob webs & dust built up all around - a little spider even popped down whilst laid in bed to say hello!
It was a little dated - BUT you get what you pay for and this was fine for a cheap, last minute hotel - somewhere to get our heads down for the night.
(The walls were also VERY thin… a guest woke us up at around 1:30am with the hiccups, coughing and on the phone - sounded like they were in the room with us!)
- Susan (2/5): Avoid like the plague! - Light oak panelling on the hall walls The place looked abandoned from the outside and we had to phone OYO customer services as the door was locked. On being let in by the very lovely receptionist we were led into a dark interior hallway that smelled like the whole place needed airing out for a fortnight. We were early (we'd actually been missed off the guest list but lovely lady sorted that out with a phone call to her boss), but one of our rooms (room 4) was available for us to relax in while the second room was finished. We walked into room 4 and were immediately hit with a smell of stale urine and cigarettes. There was something black and very dirty looking ingrained into the carpet where you would step out from your bed, and the bathroom floor grout wasn't much better. We immediately turned around and informed the receptionist that we could not stay there and left. We contacted OYO Customer services again and told them why weren't staying and that we did not expect to be charged. We also emailed them our experience and photos.
- David (7/5): Cheap and cheerful, dont expect the Hilton, but it was comfortable and had free parking - Cheap and cheerful, could do with a refurb and a bit better cleaing, but it was cheap so cant really complain bathroom could have been cleaner and it was quite dated, my nan had the same bath and toilet back in the 1980's
- Wayne (4/5): never any one around -
- Richard (1/5): Worst hotel I’ve experienced. - Not much to say about liking the stay. The room was filthy with dust. Bits missing from the bed. There is no bar, restaurant or breakfast facility in the hotel. When I asked about the bar and breakfast I got told to go to their sister hotel The Royal 100yds down the road for breakfast. The Royal has stopped doing breakfasts, pretty poor that the staff did not know this.
