Guest Reviews
- Michael J (10/5): - Very nice, friendly and good food.
- IAN (10/5): - The room was clean very neat . the staff helpfull and friendly. The food was realy nice with a good choice and at a good price.
- Scott (10/5): - Really had a pleasnt stay. Owners made us feel really welcome.
- Maxine (10/5): - If you’re looking for a place to stay in this area I would recommend The Ring O’Bells. The staff were excellent, friendly, helpful and welcoming. The rooms are clean, comfortable and equipped with the things you need for a stay. Had a good night’s sleep, lovely to wake up feeling refreshed.
Rooms are up some metal stairs, no problem for us but be aware if you struggle with steps.
Breakfast was excellent. Recommend the Eggs Benedict!
I would definitely book here again if I was in the area.
- Debra (10/5): - Very friendly
- Beverley (10/5): Great pub with rooms - Great pub with rooms. Very comfortable. Excellent breakfast.
- sarah (10/5): - Although we didn't get to meet our hostess, the owner/host and his staff were fantastic. The pub was cosy and clean and extremely reasonably priced and the service was amazing. Very pleasant and friendly people who genuinely cared about making our stay pleasurable.
Absolutely recommend and should we find ourselves down that way again, we will most certainly stay here. Thank you.
- Heather (10/5): Lovely pub with excellent rooms - Beautiful, spacious room with everything you need. Lovely views over fields and down to the quay. Staff were so friendly and very helpful. Went above and beyond to help me with cat woes! The food is excellent and the pub is cosy. Cant wait to stay again.
- Ivy (4/5): - The twin room was very datdand damp
- Barry (8/5): Good value base for the Coast Path - Ring o Bells made a great base for the section of the Coast Path I was following (Slapton to Noss Mayo). Bed was comfortable, shower was good, free wifi was good, cooked breakfast was excellent (but only from 0830, so no good if you need an early start). Lovely view from the room over Kingsbridge and the estuary. Bus links from West Alvington around the area were good and there are a couple of good supermarkets within a few minutes drive. Room needed a good refurb but as a single man I didn't find that a problem and it didn't affect my stay. Only significant issue was the steep stairs up to the room, not a problem for me, but it might be if you are mobility-impaired.
- Andrew (6/5): - Budget price, room clean, noisy, compressor below room, steep narrow fire escape stairs to access, no attempt to make the place appealing, totally lacking charm, bought the feel of a motorway service area to a very beautyful part of the country.
- Peter (10/5): - All very good . Stayed one night .
- CHRISTIAN (10/5): Friendly and practical. Great rooms - Friendly staff, comfortable practical rooms, good experience thank you.
- martin (8/5): - Good value stopover with very good food at reasonable prices. Handy for Coast Path walkers as it's on Salcombe- Kingsbridge-Totnes bus route
- MARTIN (10/5): Excellent in every way! - I cannot fault my stay here. The staff were exceptional! The room was clean. The food was very good . Probably one of the best pub stays I’ve had. I would highly recommend it.
- Maddy (10/5): - Great location nestled between Salcombe and kingsbridge. Beautiful walks within the village. Great food and the best service
- Jeremy (10/5): Convenient friendly pub with comfortable rooms - Visited the area for the wonderful Salcombe Crab Festival. This friendly pub is a convenient 5 miles from Salcombe by bike (up and down some large hills!). Comfortable rooms and an excellent breakfast.
- Stuart (10/5): Clean, comfortable and good value. - Clean, comfortable and good value, with a warm efficient welcome and service.
Thank you.
- Pete (10/5): Ring O’Bells - Great little spot walkable to Kingsbridge. Staff were excellent, the breakfast included was terrific and it felt like a home. The room is small and basic but it’s all a traveler needs.
- Martin (8/5): A great find / base for our coastal walking - Convinient location. Very good breakfasts, Evening meals.
- Christine (8/5): - Close to the bus stop
Breakfast too late, offered sandwiches in place of breakfast
- Len (2/5): - This place should not be on the Expedia register. The access to the rooms was via a metal fire escape to the rear. The stairs were covered in moss and slippery. The top of the stairs and walkway had a 1.5" Foam covering on, which was a trip hazard at the top of the stairs. The room had several areas of damage. The heating didn't work properly as the curtains draped over the radiator sending the heat straight out of the window. The shower had black mould on the ceiling. The bathroom door would stay shut, and the grout lines in the shower were filthy.
The two-piece bed was uneven from one side to the other, and one side sloped down at the edge. The food selection was standard pub-food, with no catering for allergies. All in all, I would allow my worst enemy to stay at this place.
- Emily (8/5): Great little room. - Room was small but very tidy, it had everything we needed. Bed wasn’t the comfiest but ok for one night. The view was amazing, high over other houses the countryside stretched for miles. Don’t book if you don’t like heights. Unfortunately there was something making a noise all night (heating, A/C, water) I don’t know what but it sounded like a heart beat all night long and kept me awake.
Check in was super easy, the bar/ restaurant was clean and friendly. The breakfast was really good the staff very friendly and helpful.
- Roy (8/5): - Convenient for bus route to Salcombe where I was walking the coastal path. Room was spacious and comfortable.
- Roy (8/5): - On bus route to Salcombe and coastal path. Very nice roomy accommodation at rear of pub.
- Robert (10/5): - Decent room, great view and great breakfast
- Roy (4/5): - The propert is a pub. We arrived shortly after Wednesday midday to check-in. A lady behind the bar checked us in and took us to our room. We had to climb a steel "fire escape" open to the elements to reach our room. The room had a large king-sized bed, plus a double bunk-bed & ensuite shower/toilet. It was slightly musty, dank and cold. There was no apparent heating and my wife and had a very cold, sleepless night.
Breakfast was fine.
- Carol (8/5): - Didnt know rooms were up high from outside steps. Bathroom was very danp and towel warmer not working
Food was very good and staff were pleasant
- Molly (10/5): - We had such a lovely stay at the Ring O’Bells. It was easy to find and parking was good. Our room was clean and comfortable and breakfast was excellent. The staff were lovely and very helpful. A great spot to explore Salcombe from.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We have stayed here several times and the staff are service are always excellent. However, this time the heart seems to have gone out of the place. Our room was not serviced over the course of our four day trip. Bathroom had signs of mould and the bar often seemed to close early.
- Derek (10/5): - Fire escape ladder access not ideal for octogenarians … otherwise v. friendly& excellent service to well fitted double room /ensuite awaiting air-con due elevation
- DANIELE (8/5): - If you are looking for a quiet retreat, don't come here. However, once the pub is closed it goes very quiet. The location is very convenient to explore the town and the surrounding area. If the weather is nice and the sky is clear, you get a wonderful view from the room. One note of caution: you will have to walk up a couple of flights of metal stairs to get to your room. It can get slippery when it rains. If stairs are an issue for you, then this is not suitable.
The room is as advertised, comfy and welcoming. Nice and clean, it has no luxury but standard amenities like a kettle and a TV. Bathroom was clean, not very big but with a comfortable shower box.
Breakfast was good and generous, the waiter went out of his way to address our special requests and did not expect to be compensated for it.
Other than the location and the views from the room on a beautiful morning, the staff are the real selling point. They are friendly, attentive, courteous and welcoming.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Ideal location and good service - Made very welcome by the owner, service very friendly and helpful. Ideal for our stay in Devon
- Kerry (10/5): - Motel type room behind pub with views, friendly staff, good food. Great for short stay for us to access with local bus routes for coastal walks and local area.
- Geoffrey (8/5): - Served its purpose
- Mike (8/5): - We received a warm welcome from Ryan at his 'Community' pub, Ring o'Bells, West Alvington on the outskirts of Kingsbridge.
The bedrooms are beside the carpark; access to them is via an open sturdy metal stairway which may be a challenge in adverse weather.
The beds with en-suite facilities were clean and well-presented; we all enjoyed a good night's sleep without any distractions.
The highlight of the Ring o'Bells is the spectacular Devon countryside overlooking the outskirts of Kingsbridge while accompanied by one of Ryan's generous hearty English breakfasts.
- LAURIE (10/5): - Everyone was most helpful.
No dislikes.
- Michael (10/5): Nice weekend. - Really liked it here. Lovely view of the valley and town of Kingsbridge. Room was clean. Breakfast was good and a good selection to choose from. Had an evening meal too, which was also very good.
- Simn (4/5): - Ouch! Had a price of £75 per night quoted but upon checkout the manager claimed that you, Expedia, had added a surcharge of £40 and when challenged refused to back down. I was not happy.
- Andrew (10/5): - We needed somewhere to stay overnight, to start clearing my mother's house after she passed away. The ring of bells was close and available at short notice. However, despite the circumstances, we were very pleased with the hotel. Would recommend. 👍👍
- Rachel (10/5): - Very welcoming and friendly
- Edward (8/5): - Found it fairly difficult getting up wet stairway
as we were all in our late 80s.
- Nick (6/5): - Good value room with ensuite. Too hot and no recycling. Breakfast pretty small.
- mark (8/5): - Very nice room. View- in the distance - of kingsbridge creek.
Excellent breakfast included in the very reasonable price .
Very helpful and Friendly staff.
Good beer and ciders.
Bed was ok , but we are used to memory foam mattress/ toppers now, so missed that.
Dog friendly with no extra charge ! - very important for us!
- Jeffrey (10/5): - The accommodation was good for my short stay and the service was friendly and efficient.
Would stay there again for short visit, although access to the rooms was via outside star=irs which might be an issue in the wet.
- stephen (10/5): - Very pleased with accomodation. Hosts were very friendly and helped in anyway possible. Food was fantastic and room was very clean and tidy. Would recommend but be aware that if you have mobility issues then these rooms are accessed via a outside metal staircase which could might be tricky for some.
- Lois (10/5): - We booked here last minute on the way to holiday to Cornwall, with our two dogs, it was the lowest priced pub, so expectations were low, the room was as good as any pub we had stayed at, breakfast was included, the coffee was really good, the service was friendly…don’t be put off booking here because of the low price…
- Jayne (10/5): Worth every penny - the rooms are self isolated so you can come and go at what ever time. Beds really comfortable and the rooms nice and spacious, clean and tidy. Will stay again when down in that area. Breakfast was very good.
- Joe (8/5): - Staff amazing. Very friendly. Good breakfast included.
Location very rural so not a lot around but not to the fault of the accommodation. However plenty of countryside and extremely dog friendly in all aspects. They are very welcomed all around the property. My usually anxious dog was very relaxed here despite there being other dogs and pub go-ers. Rooms aren’t directly above pub area, they are to the rear of the property overlooking amazing views.
Rooms aren’t large but include the basic necessities and a nice large shower enclosure.
All round good place to stay. Met our requirements for a dog-friendly place to stay, within walking distance from the main town.
Pleased with the stay 👍
- D (10/5): - Good accommodation, good food, all at very reasonable cost, plenty of parking
- William (10/5): Good overnight Stay - We stayed here on our way to start the Soth West coastal Path at Salcombe. Good choice. Good beer, good meal and good night's sleep. Handy for the Bus Stop too !!
- Josh (10/5): - Great room even better hosts, i would definitely recommend
- Louise (10/5): Very comfortable, lovely people - We slept brilliantly in the comfortable clean room and and had an excellent breakfast. The owners are very kind and friendly people.
- David (10/5): Very good - Really enjoyed my stay, will return without doubt. Lads and ladies behind bar and kitchen where excellent, no concerns with the room, food was fab inc breakfast.
- Philip (10/5): Good stay - Very warm and friendly,I really enjoyed my stay.
- Agata (10/5): - All good.
- Julie (10/5): Ring O Bells - Fantastic place to stay, the hosts and bar staff were so friendly and helpful! I definitely highly recommend anyone to stay here! 5* service. Thank you 😊
- MR T J (10/5): Ring o Bells April 2023 - The staff there were very helpful and friendly. Had an evening meal, was very nice. Room was spot on 👍
- gary (8/5): - very pleasant stay
- Jonathan (10/5): - Lovely reception from all the staff, room was very clean and tidy, we were a bit cold after driving from a snowy Bristol to Devon, but not a problem as the heating was boosted just to warm us up. Had a great meal, even if the portions beat us, and breakfast next morning was excellent.
- barry (8/5): Comfortable stopover with great view. - Rooms were an add-on, up a metal staiscase. Great view over the Devon countryside. Room was clean and well appointed. Needed net curtain as very large window can be seen into by other guests walking past. The owner/manager/chef was very helpful, especially with my motorcycle. Good breakfast.
- Carolyn (10/5): - Very clean room, excellent food choices and really helpful staff - would definitely recommend for a short stay and will be returning ourselves
- Fay (10/5): Perfect - Perfect overnight stay, great views. Cosy, clean. All needs catered for. Great breakfast. Would definitely stay again.
- Belinda (8/5): - We stayed in the family room and were pleasantly surprised at the size of it. The shower room was also a good size. The room was clean and smelled nice and had tea and coffee available too. There was only one thing I think could be improved on and that was the mattress on the bed was a bit uncomfortable and could probably do with being replaced or a topper put on it. Otherwise breakfast and everything else was good and as expected.
- Linda (10/5): - Exceptionally friendly staff, really helpful and went the extra mile to provide great service. Good pub food also.
- Andrew (10/5): - Good value with breakfast included
- Mark (10/5): One Night Only - Good value for money; we only stopped for the night but enjoyed a clean, comfortable room, an excellent breakfast & friendly staff.
- Connie (10/5): - Staff & Food excellent. Room was great but view from window showed building work.
- Lisa (8/5): - Lovely breakfast, room basic
- Nigel (8/5): Lovely location - Arrival was pleasant and I was shown to my room. It was comfortable and clean reasonably appointed. Bathroom was very clean and the shower well proportioned with good hot water supply. Other than breakfast I didn’t eat at the pub as thee was no chef after the Sunday lunch sitting. However, the breakfast was substantial and excellent. Would stay again.
- Darren (8/5): - Very pleasant stay, room was clean and host was excellent. Would stay again
- Jeridith (8/5): Great little spot - We just started overnight but the staff was amazing. We had to leave before breakfast so they made us some sandwiches to go. Very personalized experience, we'd definitely come back
- paulkferris (8/5): - Welcoming , quiet and good meal in the bar
- Lynda (10/5): Little gem - Really nice little inn. Friendly service. Impeccably clean. Comfortable bed. Nice linen. Lovely countryside views.
- R (10/5): Exc Overnight Stay - We had a very nice stay with a great breakfast would recommend
- Norman (10/5): - Good place to stay. Room good. Bed comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Staff pretty good. Parking on site or overflow car park.
- Catherine (10/5): 3 night stay at the Ring O Bells, West Alvington - The room was very adequate. The single beds felt a bit small, but the mattresses were very comfortable. We are used to sleeping in a king size bed, & I suppose we could have pushed the beds together, but we didn't think about doing that until we got home! The staff were very friendly & efficient. There was a lovely choice for breakfasts & evening meals, & very tasty too.
- Carol (10/5): One not to miss!! - Made to feel very wecome from the moment of arrival. The staff went out if their way to cater for our needs and were very friendly and approachable whilst remaining professional. Our room was spacious and had stunning views. Everywhere was very clean and we felt covid safe at all times. The food was excellent and the coffee was superb. We could not find any fault at all with this accommodation and will certainly return in the future!!!
- D J (10/5): Great location for SWCP - Very friendly and helpful staff - clean accommodation, good food in an unpretentious pub. Perfect base for several sections of the SWCP with buses to Hope Cove, Salcombombe, Dartford etc. so easy to manage
- James (8/5): Good stopover. - Clean and tidy, with a great breakfast. Our room was in a separate block to the rear of the pub, up two flights of metal stairs. Room wasn't huge but had all the basics needed. I would suggest good for a stopover but not ideal if stopping for a longer period. Functional rather than pretty.
- Charlotte (8/5): Clean, great service and location - A lovely b&b with a clean room, and excellent service and breakfast.
- LESLEY (8/5): Good basic room, value for money - Basic comfortable room. Probably could do with a new mattress soon springs a bit twangy but i slept ok. faucet a bit stiff, but nice hot shower, TV. Friendly efficient service from staff.
- Georgina (8/5): - Over all a very pleasant stay. Only thing that I would recommend is to not limit what can be had for breakfast, especially only being able to have one cup of coffee/tea. Should be able to have more than one
- Susette (10/5): - Myself, my husband and 13 year old daughter stayed for one night to meet friends in Salcombe.
Great place for a short stay. We’ll appointed room, very clean and great friendly service.
- Peter (8/5): Great Stay - Perfect for a base to work from.
Friendly owners and clean rooms - Small well equipped room with good views and the breakfast was GREAT. Excellent value for money and one we will return to.
- Natalie (10/5): Another good stay - Our second visit as the first one was so good and it didn't disappoint.
Food, staff and room are all excellent for the money.
Price pitched just right for what you get.
Kingsbridge is pleasant and close by.
A short drive brings you to Thurlestone and South Milton Sands for a day at the beach.
The other way to Torcross and Slapton Sands is also very acceptable to spend some time at.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Handy place to stay and eat - Good location just outside of the town, handy for Hope Cove, Dartmouth and Plymouth. Small chalet style room accessed by metal staircase to rear of property, which could be a challenge for elderly or anyone with mobility issues. Clean and tidy and adequate with ketttle and hairdryer, mainly if you just want a bed for the night. Our stay was spoiled by loud drone of, what I think was the refridgeration unit below our room (No 3) clicking on & off all night, keeping me awake. Loud, even with the windows shut.
No housekeeping done due to Covid, but anything you needed could be requested at the bar.
However, very accommodating and friendly owner & would recommend the food here, even if not staying. Extensive menu, and all meals, as well as breakfast, were good value and very nice. Would definitely eat here if visiting the area again. They were also happy to allow our dog into the bar side & even provided doggy treats!
- Keith (8/5): good value for money - Nice pub and excellent full English breakfast
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff, good choice of food at breakfast and in the evening. WiFi didn't work in the room but was fine in the bar.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean and comfortable
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Conveniently located for Kingsbridge and bus to Salcombe. Excellent, friendly and informative staff. Well appointed bedroom and public rooms. Extensive menus. Only criticism was that the food portions were too large!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - everything was excellent, breakfast was very good and cooked as we waited.
except for one thing we are both light sleepers and the noise of the fan of the cooling system for the cellars which is situated outside disturbed our sleep.
- Jeremy (10/5): - No frill
