- Saturngeek (9/5): Excellent stay, we loved our room and the breakfast is definitely a must! - We loved the room we stayed in, it was bigger than expected and very clean. We had the breakfast both mornings and I would definitely recommend it. You can't beat the location, it's peaceful and romantic. I wasn't keen on the prices but these prices are to be expected due to the location and quality of the service.

Easy access and loads of space for us as a family of 4. The service at breakfast was very slow. We were there over an hour and a half. From arrival to finishing out breakfast. All of the juice glasses were dirty too so we had to wait for them to be cleaned beofre having a drink of juice

- Julie (6/5): Beautiful setting, great food, but disappointing rooms - The lake and the gardens are beautiful. Such a lovely setting for a hotel. Large free car park. Food was absolutely delicious! Great vegan options, beautifully prepared and tasted wonderful. The meat eaters enjoyed their meals too. Breakfast was very good, despite slow service. Comfortable bed. We stayed in cottage 2 (family suite). It was pretty bad accommodation, particularly considering the price we paid. The bathroom absolutely stank of damp/ drains, and the smell crept into the bedroom which was adjacent. Shower in need of an upgrade. Kitchen area was filthy, with food debris/ crumbs, all around the floor edges and by the fridge. There wasn't much in the way of kitchen equipment if someone did want to self cater. Definitely in need of refurbishment (and cleaning!). There is literally no sound insulation from the apartment above (cottage/ suite 3) and you could hear every foot step, very loudly! Luckily they didn't go to bed late or get up very early, but if they had, we would have been kept awake. Some carpets or other insulation needs to be laid. No curtain across the door, so people could see in if light on. There isn't a terrace for the family suite. It's just the access space to get to the door, which overlooks the car park. There was no information in any of the three rooms my family booked, which you'd expect in this class of hotel. So if you wanted the WiFi code, you had to go back to reception to get it. Or to confirm check out or breakfast timings or even look at the menu. TV not working in one of the rooms. My dad told reception and they said, 'oh yes, I think someone complained about that the other day'! Some staff were very good and attentive. Some less so.

I had to sleep - hardly at all !- in sweater, socks, hat. I and another couple were the only guests staying overnight (their room was fine) and there was no staff member at the property to speak to. Apart from the cold, surely this was a safety issue??

The room comfort. We paid £150 for a twin room for 1 night with breakfast. The room was at the top of 2 flights of stairs. It was tiny and smelt very musty and old furniture. The bed was okay but not as conformable as a I would expect for the money we paid. We managed for one night as we were out most of the time, but didn't feel this matched the price we paid.

Breakfast was super in terms of quality and quantity. I would definitely stay again. You had to check out at 10 but for £20 you can stay until 12.

They were incredibly friendly and accommodating, as were the morning staff who admittedly I didn't interact with as much due to me being out the door fairly early each morning. There was also plenty of parking, the food was lovely, and the room was quiet which was perfect for me. There wasn't much to not like, I wasn't in the room for a prolonged period as I was more using it as a base of operations for viewing the area.

- Strangekiiti (9/5): Overnight stay at the Rudyard - This is my second stay here, everything is very nice, it's a shame the weather is so bad as I would have gone for a walk in the morning . The food is well prepared and fresh and the staff are very friendly The only thing I can pinpoint is that room 9 is a little chilly. Even with the radiator on at its max. Im sure had i asked for a heater, they would have supplied one

The room was a bit on the cool side with heating on, there was a fan in the room which helped a little bit. - Lesley (8/5): Lovely Hotel on Rudyard Lake - The staff were lovely, friendly & helpful. The room was small but comfortable, suitable for a short stay and the food was lovely. The location is great next to a Lake, with lovely trails. My only real criticism would be the shower, which was dreadful as there seemed to be almost zero water pressure, which resulted in the most depressing trickle of water! There was also only two hand towels in the room and no bath towels. Shampoo & shower gel was supplied but no conditioner, which is not a major problem, but would be nice.

Our first room was also quite dusty and we didn't have any towels, plus the bathroom tiles were coming away from the wall - it looked like it'd been renovated on the cheap... Got moved to a room with an electric shower with awful water pressure and no bath. It wasn't a cheap stay so it's very disappointing that basic facilities like hot water simply weren't provided! We should have read the negative reviews before booking, as it seems like a common issue
