- Stuart (8/5): - Really convenient for the train station.
We were provided with a map and some instructions on how to get around along with some tips on itineraries by the host who was superb. It met our expectations, so nothing.

- Esteves (9/5): Cost-effectiveness - Central location, lots of things nearby, safe place and helpful staff, especially Jhonny who welcomed me there, was extremely attentive and gave me great tips about Rome. Very busy area, noisy at night.
- Preethi (8/5): - The staff were very helpful, there is free luggage storage as well and it's very close to everything. You get all your basic amenities as well. Kudos to the hotel staff
- Patzy (10/5): We would like to thank the staff who were very kind and helpful, they were giving us very good advices that we were foll - It was having all what we need and the location is amazing, nearby the historic area and transportation All good !
- Katelyn (10/5): - We had our own room and restroom. Everything was clean and beds were comfortable. Pillows were amazing! Johnny was very nice and helpful during our short stay. They came in daily to make the beds. Was not expecting that but it was nice after our long days in Rome. He even recommended a restaurant a street over that we enjoyed. Some people mention this area is dangerous. I didn’t feel that way in the least even at 12am my husband and I walked home from eating and drinking by the coliseum. Never once felt unsafe. Just be vigilant.
Little tip for first timers in Rome. Download the FreeNow app. It’s like uber. But cheaper at times.
Overall our stay was very pleasant and saved us some money compared to hotel prices in the area.
- mayasV4038XF (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE - scam, unsanitary, dirty, disrespectful - I’ve travelled extensively across Europe and stayed in countless hostels, and not once have I felt compelled to leave a negative review until now. This was, without a doubt, the worst accommodation experience I’ve ever had. I’m writing this to warn future travelers so they don’t make the same mistake.
We originally booked four nights through Hostelworld. Upon arrival, the staff told us we’d get a “free upgrade” a private bathroom if we cancelled our booking on Hostelworld and paid them directly. This is a blatant scam designed to lock you in and make you ineligible for refunds or support from third-party booking platforms. Unfortunately, we fell for it.
Once we got to our room, the nightmare only escalated. There were blood stains on the sheets and small bugs crawling around. We politely asked for clean linens, only to be given dirty sheets again. Soon after, both my friend and I developed rashes and itchy bumps all over our bodies, likely due to the unhygienic conditions or bedbugs. We physically couldn’t sleep there and ended up booking a nearby hotel that same night, even though we had already paid for the hostel.
The next morning, we returned to calmly discuss our concerns. We showed clear photo evidence of the dirty sheets, our skin reactions, and the state of the room. The staff told us to come back later so they could “talk to the manager.” While we were gone, they entered our room without permission and tampered with the fixtures, later falsely accusing us of breaking a bathroom hook. It was clearly unscrewed manually, a deliberate attempt to shift blame and avoid responsibility.
To make matters worse, the man we dealt with was extremely aggressive, disrespectful, and flat-out refused to speak to me because I’m a woman, directing all communication toward the male friend who was traveling with us. His behavior was disgusting and deeply misogynistic.
We tried to stay calm and respectful throughout, but we were met with hostility and lies at every turn. In the end, we received no refund, were scammed out of our money, and violated by staff who entered our room without consent. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable or mistreated while traveling.
Avoid this hostel at all costs. It is unsafe, unprofessional, unsanitary, and run by people who have absolutely no regard for your well-being or basic respect.
- dinosM2074CQ (2/5): AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! - AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!
Our family travels a lot and have never had an experience like this before and felt we needed to warn people. Our experience was truly terrible at Funny Palace Hostel in Rome, which we booked through Hostel World. Upon arrival, the staff immediately encouraged us to cancel our online reservation and book directly with them, promising a “better room.” In hindsight, this should have been our first warning sign.
The so-called “upgrade” included a “private bathroom,” which turned out to be false—we were actually sharing the bathroom with guests from four other rooms. Once inside, we discovered blood stains on the sheets. Although the staff did provide clean sheets when we complained, within a short time, two of us developed what we initially thought were rashes. We soon realized these were bedbug bites, which explained the blood stains on the original bedding.
With the front desk closed for the night and unable to stay in the infested room, we booked another hotel for the night and planned to resolve the issue in the morning. When we requested a different room, the staff refused—likely because they were fully booked. We then asked for a refund for the remaining nights, but were told only the manager could approve this.
When we returned from lunch, we were falsely accused of damaging the towel rack in the bathroom, which was hanging loose. It was clear this accusation was fabricated, as the rack was perfectly fine when we left. Once we pointed this out, the staff backed off. Nevertheless, they still refused to refund us, so we ultimately left and booked accommodation elsewhere.
In summary: Avoid this place at all costs. It is not a real hostel, but rather someone renting out rooms with questionable standards and dishonest practices.
- Thomas (10/5): - Highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Rome! The host, Mabri, was extremely kind and helpful in sharing the best places to visit. Located very close to the Rome train station, we were able to walk to the property upon arriving and then walk throughout Rome during our trip without needing to take the bus or train one time. The facilities were much better than I expected for the price we paid, as the room and bathroom were very clean and in great shape. Would definitely send all of my friends here when they visit Rome.
- Vincent (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vincent (9/5): Superb -
- Gaye (8/5): Convenient and affordable. - The room is basic but has everything thing you need. It was close to the train station. It was walkable to some sites.
When I had a misadventure with Italian trains and accidentally ended up back there I was able to book a room quickly and get in.
- Dominika (7/5): Good - Very good location, next to the railway station and very helpful host
- Louise (5/5): Passable - Convenient for trains, 5 minutes away. Area is OK. No problem! Bathroom lights horrible! Everything works but all a bit neglected. Room we had did have a bit of musty smell. But felt safe so OK fir 1 night.
Expensive fir what you get. We paid 109 euro plus 3 euro each tax.
- Meredith (10/5): - What a great hidden secret gem. Room was large, clean, easy to find. Many options for eating. Walkable to all attractions 20-30 mins. I highly recommend
- mfrissa (10/5): Great stay. Helpful host - We had a great stay at Funny Palace! The staff was very kind and gave us AMAZING recommendations on how to navigate Rome. One of the owners/managers (I’m assuming) used to be a tour guide, and annotated a map showing us the most efficient way to see Rome, and highlighted any key spots we should visit. The accommodation was very close to a train station, but we only used it when we entered/exited Rome since the hostel was in a walkable location to everything we wanted to see. As a bonus, they had a last minute cancellation prior to our arrival and we were lucky enough to be upgraded! If I ever return to Rome, I would stay here again
- Carl (10/5): - Väldigt nöjda med vår vistelse!
- Yulia (8/5): Modest hotel with a very good location. Free luggage storage - Managers are always in touch. Close to the station (there is a cool food court at the station that works until the evening). You can leave your suitcases. Quite expensive and modest. No refrigerator.
- Kamal (8/5): - Preislich wirklich empfehlenswert. Sauberkeit und Service on Point!
- Enda (2/5): You get what you pay for... - You get what you pay for from one of the cheaper hostels in the area. Only one towel was provided. Another would be provided for a 2 Euro charge. Air conditioning was an additional 5 Euro charge. No shower gel provided, had to use hand wash which was watered down
- MARIA ANTONIA (10/5): Maravilhosa!
- Mia (9/5): Superb -
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent Location - Tien was a lovely host and gave us a great basic guide to the city upon arrival. All the staff we met were hospitable and helpful.
The private room included two safes for storage of valuables, and ample place to store clothes and other stuff. The shared (w one other room) bathroom was very clean, though the hot water wasn't the most plentiful.
We felt safe at all times, as there were three locked doors to pass from the street, and a no guest policy.
We loved the location and access to downtown, especially busses and main terminal. I would definitely recommend and return, when in Rome!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Decent place in a great location for a very affordable price. Reception was very kind and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Foi muito bom. Recomendo!
- Lily (8/5): - .
- Aysel (2/5): Very poor -
- Julian (10/5): - Great area if u want to walk around. It’s about a 20 minute walk from the Colosseum. And a 25 minute train ride to Vatican City
- Carolyn (10/5): Will definitely stay again - The location. Near the centre. Joni is very helpful and friendly Nothing
- Zuzana (10/5): Exceptional - Staff is really, really nice, very helpful and caring. The hostel is of a very solid quality for being a hostel, location is 5 mins walking from the train station, walking distance to almost all main sights. Indeed, they do not have a common space, but we did not really need it as we were out most of the time.
- Enes (1/5): Bad -
- Gerelbat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thanh (8/5): Very good - The saffs are so friendly and helpfull
The location is good, near the main station
There are many various restaurant near here Dont have hair dry or brushteeth. It still have basic things
- Giuseppe (10/5): - Tutto ok personale cortese e la camera ottima
- Kuo-cheng (3/5): Poor - Location Room smell weird
- Trip18463707673 (2/5): If you are female and traveling alone, Do Not Stay Here. - The photos shown are not accurate. This is not a “hostel.” It is a man’s small apartment, and he rents out his bedrooms. There is not 24-hour coverage, and you have to pay extra if you arrive late at night. He limits the age of lodgers to people under 40.
I checked in and paid ahead of time, but when I arrived and saw the space, I was extremely disappointed and troubled. Then the host said that my 25-year-old daughter was welcome, but I was too old, so I decided it was not safe to stay there. It was after midnight, but we left and found a hotel, thank god.
I still had to pay for the room because he reported that I was a “no-show,” even though I arrived at the place. I just refused to put myself and my daughter in an unsafe situation.
- 654adeshp (2/5): Air conditioner and fan not included in price - In this peak of summer, they said Air Conditioner is not included in the price. They didn't even have a fan in the rooms. We had to pay them extra (only in cash) to use Air Conditioner. The rooms are poorly ventilated and we couldn't open the window either.
- Vw0611 (2/5): Terrible experience - Save your money, book somewhere else. The place to check in is a dirty laundromat. The room was dirty, the shower was broken, as well as the toilet. There was water coming out of the toilet and it flooded the bathroom. The host is an unfriendly man. He charges €5 per night PER PERSON for airconditioning. So if you are with 2 people he charges you an extra €10 per night to use the airconditioning. Believe me, you need the airconditioning. I am so glad we only stayed for one night.
- annajohnsons (2/5): HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE - First, the men were VERY RUDE TO US. They want as much as money as they can and the most worst thing was that we had to pay extra per person for the airconditioning which was including. DON’T BOOK THIS
- laura-moraesg (8/5): Great place - - (negative)
- breakfast is not at the hostel
- breakfast: cafe + Croissant
- Heater only works after 5 pm
- No towels
- Strange place to check in
+ (positive)
- has elevator (although super small)
- We bought with a shared bathroom and were given a private bathroom, it was perfect!
- you can leave your luggage there for free after checking out
- isabeltravels98 (8/5): Funny Palace Rome - Right by the train station and easy to get to all the places we wanted to go. We even got the room to ourselves and an ensuite bathroom. Nice beds and sheets, and actually located right inside an apartment building. We even got the entrance confused with another apartment, but a nice lady showed us the way. We only stayed one night, but it was very nice.
- johnpO3210ZI (10/5): A great place to stay - Was so surprised to find this great place so close to Termini Station. It’s so close to so many of the must see places.
The staff were really helpful with maps and advice on when to see and how to get great pictures by missing the crowds
Am staying there again this month, so I would give this place my business again
Highly recommend it !
- PaulTravels1972 (4/5): Creepy as hell and grossly unprofessional - Firstly, this place is not a hostel.
The check in is a run down laundromat on a dead end street that makes you uneasy as soon as you step foot inside it.
The check in process is done by who you would assume is the owner, an enthusiastic yet slightly sexist/homophobic/racist guy who gave us an off bottle of wine and an itinerary; both unasked for.
Moving on we were taken next door to a dimly lit apartment building and to our room, a spacious yet unfurnished, with a gaping hole in the roof room with two single beds hard as rocks pushed together to create a “double bed.”
Its a seriously weird vibe. It was mostly clean but what disturbed us the most was after returning from a day out in Rome our bed had been made without out us being told there was turn down service, all of our stuff had been moved around.
The walls are thin as hell and there were heaps of people loudly coming in and out at all hours. There were also no toiletries provided and the water wasn't very hot.
The pro’s were it was pretty affordable and close to the train station but it was all in all really creepy and knowing people had access to our room made it hard to sleep the last night.
Would recommend biting the bullet and paying a little extra to stay somewhere safer and more professional.
- AleAdame1d (10/5): LOVED IT - This hostel is amazing!
We spent 3 nights there and we didn't want to leave.
The room for 2 was incredible. It had a private bathroom and shower which was super nice and clean. Breakfast is served just around the corner in a small but nice coffee shop. The building is safe and its really close to the Termini.
Oh, the "welcome to funny palace" wine bottle was also a great idea.
The staff is really kind and funny they gave us recomendations for our trip: places to visit, to eat, to shop, to party. EVERYTHING!
Anyway, if you're looking for a place to stay Funny Palace is the best option.
Can't wait to go back! Grazie mille!
- piy999 (2/5): This is a laundromat, not a hostel - This is not a hostel where you can meet people. This is a few rooms on top of a hostel.
Do yourself a favor and stay in a real hostel like the Yellow or Beehive or Alessandro. You won't meet anyone here unless you do a lot of laundry downstairs.
I immediately noped out as soon as I reached with my baggage and tried to cancel my booking but then the owner started threatening me with cops if I didn't stay in his hostel. At that point, I handed him my phone & said sure, Please call the cops, I will wait. That set him right. He was trying to force me to stay in a place where I didn't feel safe or happy.
- Sydster13 (6/5): Convenient Atypical Hostel - So I would overall rate this hostel a 3.5 MAAAAYBE a 4.
Firstly this isn't like any of the other hostels I have stayed at. There isn't a community feel about it like at many other hostels. It seems like it was an old hotel or apartment building.
Check in is CASH ONLY despite what the website says, which is a little off putting considering the times we live in.
Check in occurs at a washeteria next door. Unlike most hostels there is NOT 24 hr customer service/desk service. I would plan yo ur arrivals around 2-4 When someone is guaranteed to be there.
The beds were very hard as were the pillows. The room we had was spacious so you didn't feel cramped like in some hostels. There is an outlet and lamo next to each bed and many more around the room. Small safes are available to lock valuable items away. There was desk and chair as well as a closet and mounted tv.
The bathroom was nice. Shower sink and toilet in one room. I stayed in a 3 single bed room. We shared it with a double bed room.
The rooms echo badly, the walls are thin, the doors are old and creaky. Security wise it was ok. Each door to the bed spaces lock, as well as the door into the suite and the door to the hostel itself, so you'll get 3 keys.
The only problem we had was the hot water want working our first day. They fixed it the afternoon by the next evening it wasn't working again.
It's located close to Roma Termini train station avout a 5 minute walk. The area itself is very city like, not really pretty to look at kind of run down.
The cost was what was most attractive.
There is no place to eat breakfast or meet other travelers. So no community feel or social aspect.
The owner did give us a nice map with lots of suggestions of places to go as well as a complimentary bottle of wine. He will also give you one ticket per day of stay for Agorà cafe. Ill write a separate review for it. You can get breakfast there which a juice or a cappuccino with one pastry.
The food in this area isn't really real Italian food in my opinion. A lot of it didn't seem handmade it seemed like the fast food version of Italian food.
There is no refrigerator or microwave for food. They do have a lift/elevator.
Overall the jury is out as to whether or motnid stay there again. It depends it was clean, close to public transportation, and reasonably priced.
The washeteria is mext dope the laundry nerds to be done.
There is wifi access as well as an internet cafe inside the laundry mat.
- kirab863 (8/5): Really nice hostel - The hostel is hard to find, because the reception is in the laundromat.
The guy is really helpful with what to do and basically makes an itinerary for you.
He upgraded us from a 5 Bed mixed room to a 4 Bed mixed room, and gave us a free bottle of wine, and towels.
The rooms are nice. The people in the rooms are also nice.
My only problem with the hostel was that the cleaners kick you out the room when they want to clean which is quite annoying, especially after a really late night of partying.
- pilivicky (8/5): Close to the train station and clean - The place was a short walk from Roma Termini and once we got there, we were told that we were getting a room with a private bathroom instead of a shared one - which was awesome!
We were also given free breakfast vouchers which consisted of coffee and a sweet cake - not bad. They also provided us with a dinner discount to one of the restaurants. Needless, we never used the discount ones and only used the coffee vouchers twice.
The rooms were spacious enough and were cleaned every day. They were nice rooms.
The only problem we encountered was the hot water on the first night and the last night of our stay. The first night, they responded promptly and even though they told us to wait until the water came out hot - we told them we had done this - they fixed it - as well as the internet. On the last night, we got cold water again and we had to go without a shower.
Other than these two episodes, it is a good place to stay at and it provides great accessibility to transportation and to the touristic sights.
I would definitely stay here again as the building was pretty secure.
- samking13 (10/5): Great Room for the Price - The room was gorgeous and reminded me of a hotel, definitely above the other hostels I have been to travelling! Free breakfast was great and right beside the hostel, and the staff were super welcoming and even helped us plan out what to do for our three days to make the most out of our experience.
- luxovics (10/5): Great rest after long day of sightseeing - Great place, bit tricky to find it first the information should be more detailed but otherwise I spent great 3nights there all I needed is a good accommodation after my tiresome discovering adventures in Rome.
cleanliness and shower could be better and the receptionist giving back the correct change but hey ho after all I got a thorough information abt the tube system so I shall let him off haha
Overall it's great value for money in middke of this big city easy approach, safe and mini safe in the rooms thank you ;)
