Guest Reviews
- Sharon (10/5): - Our hosts Becka and Richard made us very welcome and looked after us well, despite the best efforts of Storm Amy.
Our room was very comfortable and the location is great for exploring the local area.
- lisa (8/5): Port in a storm - Lovely staff, food was good evening meal and has free parking. Basic room but worked for what we needed on the day. Nothing fancy. Breakfast is not included and don't think you can get it either? Didn't notice anything close if you do want it?
Right next to a railway station which could be handy.. but never heard a train.
- LINDA (10/5): - This was an outstanding place to stay primarily because of the warmth and outstanding hospitality of the owners/hosts. They went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as can be!
- Edmond (10/5): - We arrived at the hotel on the 10th September not knowing what to expect but the next 5 days unveiled an experience second to none. The owner Richard proved to be really helpful and accommodating. Both my wife and myself have difficulties walking, we use walking sticks as aids. The first room we were given was clean, comfortable and well presented but had a bath/shower unit. at breakfast Richard realising we may have a problem suggested another room with a walk in shower. He then moved all our gear while we had breakfast. all the meals were very satisfying and more than enough. Every day of our stay, Richard his wife Becky, his staff Jan and Tim could not have been more helpful. They all made our stay a memorable one. We will be back.
- Philip (8/5): - Pleasant small hotel adjacent to the Strathcarron Railway Station. Good friendly atmosphere in the bar, and a host who clearly cares that his guests have a good experience.
- Delaine (10/5): - We loved our 3 day stay here. Richard and his staff were excellent, very engaging, helpful with ideas and information about the area. The food was excellent. Very central for getting around by train, but also has room for cars. Would totally recommend staying here.
- Jessica (10/5): - We only stayed for one night but we had a great stay. The pub/restaurant had great food and all of the staff were so friendly. Highly recommend.
- Lorraine (10/5): - Very warm welcome from the owners and staff! Bar & restaurant very atmospheric, food was delicious.
- Zhihao (6/5): - While the property is a bit dated, the staff are friendly and helpful.
- Anthony (6/5): - Good service, they squeezed us into dinner service. Room was clean but not in good condition (toilet seat did not fit, door knob installed incorrectly). No wifi or tv in room.
- Eric (8/5): - Great service
- Ashley (10/5): - This was a very personable experience with the owners, Becca and Richard, and staff being very attentive having excellent restaurant management. The food was really good too. Definitely a place we would come back to!
- Tara (10/5): - The staff were amazing and so personable. The area was just beautiful!
- Gregory (10/5): - Very friendly country inn
- Laura (10/5): Mid-Point Overnight Stay - We chose this hotel as a mid-point for our trip. It’s in a great location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Just a very charming place to stay and I highly recommend it!
- Steven (8/5): NC-500 adventure - Cosy family-run hotel with good rural location close to Plockton, Bealach-na-Ba pass and Applecross peninsula, handy for visiting the Isle of Skye and next door to the Lochcarron Railway station. Good food and hospitality, inviting restaurant/bar/snug that has ambience, lovely Scottish decor, lots of dark red and green, tartan carpets. Very pleasant and helpful owners and staff. Bedrooms a little old fashioned but clean with very good hospitality tray. Free Wifi throughout.
- Sam (10/5): - Fantastic welcome. Good food. Beautiful location.
- Kimberly (8/5): - If you're looking for a place to stay while passing through the area, Strathcarron Hotel is wonderful! The beds aren't the comfiest, and the rooms are a bit dated, but these folks will make you feel like you're part of the family! We stayed in several hotels around Scotland, but Strathcarron was the friendliest and most welcoming!
- Cynthia (10/5): - The place had a lot of old world charm. Bar and restaurant on premises was convenient.
- Leroy (8/5): - The staff was super friendly and helpful. The place is a little dated but it was clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay there again.
- Crystal (10/5): - Great atmosphere and people. Short stay but would stay again.
- George (10/5): Our strathcarron experience. - We arrived to the warmest of welcomes and that continued through out our stay. Becca and Richard couldn’t do enough for us. Our room was clean and comfortable. The food was good and home cooked. They were happy to make anything we asked for regardless of if it was on the menu. They took the time to make friends with us and when we left we felt like we were saying goodbye to friends.
- Holly (4/5): - The camping area looked really noce and the views are beautiful. If this review were based on service it would ne more startls. The staff is wonderful. The hotel is older so I expected the creaky floors and thin walls. Sadly the bed was terribly uncomfortable. The bathroom could really use a good remodel. The pub/restaurant downstairs offers good food and drinks, but is pretty expensive, so be prepared for that.
- Mark (10/5): - The hosts were wonderful and the food was fantastic. I would highly recommend this hotel.
- Alan (10/5): - One of the best welcomes you'll get anywhere!!!
Richard, Rebecca and the team, go the extra mile in hospitality and food .
First name terms within minutes of meeting with everything all prepared ready!
Rooms are basic but are clean, warm & with comfy beds. Entirely suitable for a few nights stay, as the friendliness outweighs any of that.
Food is great, served with a smile, humour, or a story! A great place!
- caroline (10/5): - From the minute we walked in until the minute we left, we were treated like family. Richard and Becca are simply lovely people and really know how to look after their guests. We will stay there again for sure!!👍👍👍👍
- Andrew (10/5): - The hotel was fantastic, well looked after. The staff were friendly and welcoming, a great atmosphere and great food
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely - The staff and owners are very friendly and want to ensure you have a nice stay. Nothing is too much trouble.
- michael (10/5): Good value - Family run business . Friendly . good value and excellent food
- Angela (8/5): - To me it was an average hotel in a small area just like the others. nothing better nothing worse. The owners seemed very nice and the breakfast was good.
- Michelle (2/5): - We arrived later in the evening. Keys were left on the registration desk, no attendant.
The room was small, and the shower was tiny.
- Dawn (8/5): - Clean, comfortable, spacious room. An engaging host. Like the use of tartan in the furnishings.
- William (8/5): - I made a mistake thinking I had booked into the Lochcarron hotel thank goodness I hadn’t. It turned out that it should have been the Strathcarron hotel. What a relief, the only criticism I would give on the Strathcarron was the room was small with limited facilities. Their food was good and the staff were friendly.
- Will (10/5): - Rustic bar but plenty of character and great chat with staff.
- Fran (6/5): - The Chilean member of staff was lovely. The room was tired and dated but clean. At £150 for the night we would have expected breakfast to be included. We even had to pay for a cup of tea and a bowl of cereal of which we were given no choice.
- Klaas (8/5): A good place too taste the highland - We enjoyed staying at the hotel for two nights, also enjoyed the hospitality off the family. We loved the typical old character off the hotel.
- Gabrielle (10/5): - We booked the dome, it was absolutely beautiful overlooking the farmlands from bed. Such a nice experience!
- William (10/5): - What a find! We were made to feel like old friends by Richard, Becca and all the staff. Great little hotel with excellent food and great bar with extensive whisky offering. Try Tallisker with dark chocolate was the recommendation! It works.
My pet hate is a standard breakfast as it’s often expensive and if you don’t want half of it it’s a waste. This place avoids that, order your tailored breakfast the night before and pay per item. Brilliant!
The rooms are small but clean and cosy. Newly installed glamping pod with an amazing view looked really good. Next time.
Thanks for a fantastic stay all round.
- Rachel (10/5): Lovely Stay - Stayed in the super cool & super cozy dome. Wonderful time with lovely staff that make you feel at home.
- Aidan (10/5): - The staff at this hotel were some of the nicest people we’ve ever met while traveling. The rooms were clean and cozy, the bathroom a little too cozy but we made do. We really enjoyed our stay here and would stay again in a moment.
- Jon (8/5): Brilliant, but a little noisy - Great place to stay, fabulous scenery and surroundings, great food, excellent service, the owner was very attentive. We got to stay in the new eco camping pod, this was cosy, nicely equipped with a very comfy bed and everything we needed, and a fantastic view! Only minor gripe was that the pod was right next to a road and was a bit noisy in the evening, but this soon settled down as the traffic died down. After a long day of travelling and exploring we slept well, even with the excitement of sleeping in a space pod! 😍
- Ian (8/5): - It might not be for everybody, but the chrome pod is excellent if you like being close to nature, like when you are camping - the sound of the wind in the trees around you, the pitter patter of rain on the roof, while you are warm and cosy in bed with the facilities you need (unlike camping!). And you can keep the curtains open to see the night stars and the dawn if you wish in your little summer igloo in the field. Only downside is the toilets which are in the main hotel, but this will be rectified soon we were told, with its own facility. A fun, different kind of night stopover. Also very good small bar and restaurant in the hotel itself, friendly hosts.
- Vivek (10/5): - Wow what a treat this place was! It’s more like a large bed and breakfast than a “hotel” but that made it even more special for us. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left it was like staying with impeccably hospitable friends. My son and I have tough names but the proprietor learned them at once and her overall attention to detail and concern for our comfort was remarkable. The rooms are basic yet very clean and comfortable. The place is an extraordinary good value given its proximity to the Isle of Skye which was overcrowded and overpriced. The hotel has a great restaurant and bar and I stood outside for like an hour taking pictures and video of the surroundings it was like something out of a movie. Absolutely highly recommend and thanks so much to the proprietors for such a wonderful stay.
- Kevin (8/5): Nice staff and stay - It was a little dated and was needing some renovations, but the staff was super nice.
Our room had a good view and a nice little walk to the river to explore.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a lovely 1 night stay. Staff were lovely and very friendly, and the room was clean and had everything we needed.
- Vince (10/5): - You’ll get a great Scottish welcome here. Becky and Richard are great hosts and were very accommodating during our stay. Food and bar was great. If you’re going to Skye this is worth a night before the tourist congestion on the Island.
- Lin (8/5): - Staff/owner were great! Location was very convenient for our itinerary. Dinner menu was very eclectic and food was good
- John (2/5): Poor - Old run down hotel charging top rate
There’s got to be better than this for the money NC 500 rip off hotels
- Carol (8/5): - Friendly hotel with good food, decor is a bit dated but clean and comfortable
- Guy Bruno (8/5): - les tenanciers sont excellents et je recommande le soir au pub ; trés bon hagis et délicieux whisky
- Sarah (8/5): Such a warm welcome - Lovely area. Very warm welcome - was more like visiting old friends we hadn’t seen for a while. Excellent food. Lovely view.
- Jeanne (10/5): - Strathcarron was a great 1 night stop for me on my way to the Isle of Skye from Inverness. The Room was clean and perfect for what I needed
- Sandra (10/5): - Room was very small but the staff was the best! Very friendly and eager to please.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great spot to stop if on the full west coast tour. Very friendly and welcoming - owner couple go out of there way with hospitality, including run you to local store for things if you need shopping. Good good and local brewery beers - will be going again next time back
- Paul (10/5): - Country location was very convenient on our NC500 trip route
- KATHLEEN (10/5): - We had such a great time during our stay here! The owners were wonderful people, and they made us feel right at home. They made time to chat with us and that made the stay extra special!
- Marilyn (8/5): - It’s a 154 old property so it carry’s a lot of history. The owners make this place special. They are very welcoming. The bar and restaurant are very cozy. It’s overpriced but is the reality of being close to the isle of skye.
- Michael (6/5): An Ok stay. - A clean room and friendly staff. Expensive for a fairly basic room which did not include breakfast. No Wi-Fi in bedroom.
- MARK (8/5): One night in Strathcarron - Great simple and clean Hotel with wonderful Hosts - I would recommend a stay here . Excellent location for walking and sight seeing
- christine (2/5): - There was no internet in the room. The only way to get internet was to sit in the restaurant and that was also really slow. The bed had no top sheet only a fitted sheet bottom. You have to assume they wash the comforter after every guest stay. I would be surprised if they did. Big weighty comforter.
- Yazmin Brenes (4/5): - The price for the night is too elevated for what you receive. For almost €170 the amenities, bathroom, bed, etc should be better. No wifi. Few Spaces for parking.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great welcome. Room was great. Staff took care of us 120%. Food was great. Thank you
- Gerald (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful
- Jeffrey (2/5): - Strathcarron Hotel 16/18 Sept
Booked for location Breakfast unnecessary. Very disappointed with Room 3. Poor lighting in room and bathroom. Tiny bathroom suitable for one person at a time and unheated. Both blinds were stained. Room decoration very tired. On arrival there were 3 teabags in our room. On second night I went to the bar and asked for more teabags and milk. I was met with “Oh did you use them all last night?” “We don’t do housekeeping”. He would arrange for some to be brought to room 3. I said “oh, ok, thank you”and as I walked away he called out to my back “You’re welcome” . As the 2 men at the bar immediately laughed I assumed he made some gesture. We were given 12 teabags, milk, and two biscuits. Can only assume room stock was not checked prior to our arrival at the property. In reality it was a very high price for what a basic tired room only venue. A fee of £80 per night would be more appropriate and inline with Room 3. We had to ask for heating to be turned on as it was cold in our room. Second night, heating was already turned on. Wi-Fi in room 3 did not exist, thank goodness it was “free”.
Website clearly states twice that they provide Daily Housekeeping but in actuality, they don’t as we found on returning to our room after our day out. Our bed was unmade and teabags and milk were not replenished.
Whatever we asked for was provided. A socket was standing away from the wall. Refund required for miss selling. Awful room.
- Brian (8/5): excellent welcome and stay - Excellent hosts and food. They are awaiting repairs to flood damage which they can't do anything more than they have. Will stay there again.

- Shane (10/5): - Becca and Richard are the greatest of hosts. Warm, inviting, I truly felt like I was home as did my daughter. Becca has a sophisticated and quick wit and Richard gave us a beautiful big room with the most stunning view. Dinners were excellent as was the conversation. This sounds unreal but I assure you it was and Becca and Richard are authentic and lovely. We left a heart made of rocks on their wall.
- Phil (4/5): - Was very dated. 70s
- Alan (10/5): - Staff were first rate. Food was superb. Recommend Cullen skink.
- Paul (10/5): - Thank you for a lovely stay! We had misunderstood the restaurant times, and were delighted when Becca and Richard said they would keep the kitchen open until we arrived - even more delighted with the absolutely wonderful cooking! The hotel is old-fashioned but clean and the beds were extremely comfortable, so just what we wanted. Breakfast was just perfect. There are one or two places that we will always book if they are available, and the Strathcarron has now been added to that very select list! Looking forward to next time!
- Scott (10/5): - The only negative with the Strathcarron is that it's an older building that hasn't been remodeled. This is the case with most of the buildings in the highlands. Our room was still clean with a functioning 3/4 bath. On the plus side, It's privately owned and operated by the owner and his assistant. The owner stayed up till 10 for our late check in and even offered us drinks. We accepted and ended up chatting for about an hour. He also took breakfast orders to be prepared for the following morning. I appreciated the value that was placed on the customer and would recommend staying here.
- John (10/5): - This hotel is run by a friendly husband and wife team. I was met by a welcoming receptionist who explained my dining options. I had alternative evening dinner plans but opted for the cooked breakfast. Excellent service served by Becca who delivered a hot breakfast with all the trimings. The food, service and accomodation here would make this hotel my 1st option when I return to Loch Carron.
- James (10/5): - Our hosts Becca and Richard were just the best! Wish we could have stayed with them longer! They were both so warm and friendly and provided great service. They also own the pub next door- very warm and welcoming!
- Paul (10/5): - Very pleasant
- Julian (10/5): - Good, central rural location for reasonable drives to any destination in the highland region. Love the environment and Book of Kells artworks. The proprietors are probably the nicest hotel owners I ever met.
- Margie (10/5): - Very personable hostess!
- katarina (10/5): - friendly great staff .would love to come back
- Kim (10/5): Highland Hospitality - Hotel is in need of updating however the couple who own it Rebecca and Richard are working on this. However although tired it was dpotlessly clean, the food was lovely and hospitality of the couple was 2nd to none, have stayed in many 5* and never been shown this level of friendliness by staff nothing was a bother for them. We booked because it was the only availability in the area but i would never normally go to 2/3* accomodation as i like my comforts and am very fussy however if i am in the area again i wouldnt hesitate and would recommend, true Highland Hospitality at its best.
- Dennis (4/5): - way over priced for what you get property needs a major overhaul tho staff was very friendly
- DAVID (2/5): - This hotel is undergoing construction. Despite the efforts of the staff, it should not really be open. A very disappointing experience .
- Walter (8/5): - we liked the owner, ho was very friendly and the food was good, however, the hotel was oldfashion and very expensive
- Pam (6/5): - This was the only hotel I could find in the area on the night I needed, it was very overpriced but nontheless I booked it due to limited alternative. The room standard is very poor, it's clean enough but really dated, the layout is poor, the standard of the fittings is very dated. There is a small bar and fortunately a good group of people also staying there made it a fun evening but otherwise it would not have been great.
- Alain (10/5): Awesome people, lovely hotel :) - Lovely couple, very helpful, arranged for us to have food although the kitchen was closed. We were treated like old friends and made to feel very welcome. We arranged to stay on our way back but unfortunately had to cancel. We will definitely book again when we go back to Skye, soon hopefully. 5 stars were not enough.
- Cheyenne (10/5): - Amazing service from the host. Thank you so much!
- Markus (10/5): - Richard your host is a real gental and does his job by love
- Alexis C (8/5): - The owners were wonderful! Very personable and helpful. I didn’t really like how breakfast was done though. You had to book a time slot for the morning the night before and also pre order what you want for breakfast. Didn’t care for that. The hotel is decent, not much in the area.
- Paul (8/5): Business Trip - Had a two night stay at Strathcarron Hotel recently. Staff very helpful and friendly. Excellent food with daily specials options. Although very busy the service was quick.
- Mary Ellen (6/5): - Pleasant staff and clean. Small space and not great water pressure in the shower. Overall it was serviceable. Wish they had wifi
- Liz (10/5): - Becca and Richard were amazing hosts, who went out of their way to make us feel so welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and our meals were delicious and with our breakfasts being cooked to our specific tastes, just perfect!
- Alexander (8/5): - The staff were really friendly especially considering the recent flood damage to the property.
- David (10/5): - Lovely stay on my Cape Wrath trip. Richard and Becca were amazing hosts, definitely recommend
- nora (4/5): - totally overpriced
- Paul (6/5): - Compared with other NC500 locations this was a bit more expensive, the welcome could have been more friendly but the breakfast and staff were very good
- duncan (8/5): - We where travelling with our pet dog. The welcome and friendliness of the owners and the staff you couldn't get better, the food and service excellent.
If we are up that way again the strathcarron hotel is where we will stay
- Janet (8/5): - Character building with great location for walking.
- Geraint (10/5): - Friendly and helpful staff
- Gordon (10/5): - Excellent family run hotel - superb service and food. Friendly locals.
- Roger (10/5): - A friendly laid-back village hotel. Plenty of hot water, amiable staff, comfortable room, good food, good atmosphere in bar/restaurant.
- John (10/5): - Staff was just brilliant. Food was gorgeous. There is a train station just yards away though. Didn't hear s thing though.
- Samuel (10/5): - I had a great time with a delicious breakfast in the morning.
