- Denise (9/5): Familiäres, gemütliches Hotel - Gemütliches Zimmer mit Strohdach, man hört das schöne Rauschen des Meeres. Von Bett und Dusche aus blickt man direkt aufs Meer, die offene Dusche ist jedoch ein wenig gewöhnungsbedürftig. Sehr freundliches Personal, vor allem Selzin von der Reception, Anna vom Restaurant und natürlich Frieda, die Hotel-Katze. Da der Strand voll Sargassum war und nicht benutzt werden konnte, waren wir froh um die drei Pools, die man zur Auswahl hat. Wir haben uns sehr wohl in diesem Hotel gefühlt. Das Zimmer muss von einem Mann entworfen worden sein. Wie sonst könnte man das Fehlen eines Badezimmer-Spiegels erklären? Ein kleiner Schminkspiegel und ein alter Ganzkörper-Spiegel sind leider nicht ausreichend für eine Frau, die sich stylen will. Das Essen ist leider nur mittelmässig, was sehr schade ist. Das Zimmer könnte grösser sein, es fehlen auch Ablagemöglichkeiten.
- Romana (1/5): Do not stay - scam! - - This hotel purports to be a luxury hotel - but is probably the worst waste of money we've ever spent. The hotel itself circumvented booking.com and made us pay through their own platform which is entirely non-refundable and should have been a HUGE red flag! The hotel is located on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, and was very cheaply made and operated. The room was cheap from the outset - the bathroom has no glass pane so was perpetually hot, the sink faucet is chipping away and rusting, the light fixtures were falling out, and the AC unit was set at a very obvious angle. Additionally, the AC unit is directly above the bed so cold air is blowing on you as you sleep with the light being too bright, the shower is open so you're on display for the whole hotel without privacy. The room itself lacked any chairs or furniture to sit down and read a book or even put your toiletries. The wicker furniture and lamps were cheap and often did not work. The breakfast was watered down juice and took a very long time to make - including a photo of the menu stating "choose 1 option" - luxury hotels don't limit your option of food or beverages. The mini bar in our room was never stocked and the hotel policy stipulated if you bring in anything from the outside you are charged $50USD. The "tote bag" for the pool had a $250USD charge if used - all of which seemed outrageous. If you look at all closely at the details - the hotel is dirty and run down, cheaply made and maintained. The pool area smelled like an open sewer - and the pool bathrooms were very poorly cleaned with no soap or anywhere to dry your hands. The beach had a 'spa' which was a falling apart shack and not available to use. This is a total scam and we regret spending so much money - do not trust the reviews, or videos - corners have clearly been cut at every step of the way. Do not stay!!!

- Sanaa (8/5): - Dear La Valise Team, We were very much looking forward to our stay at your beautiful property, and while we truly appreciated the unique design and overall atmosphere, I wanted to share a few disappointments that impacted our experience. We had booked the suite with the rolling bed, and checked in around 4:00–4:30 PM, hoping to unwind and take a few photos before our 7:30 PM dinner reservation. Unfortunately, several issues took up most of that limited window: When I reached for the robes, both had noticeable yellow stains. I texted the staff for replacements, and also reported that the A/C remote wasn’t working—important since the doors cannot be opened with the A/C on. It took nearly an hour to receive the new robes and for someone to look into the A/C issue. While I understand things can take time, the service felt very slow, especially during a time-sensitive part of our stay. Additionally, while I was getting ready, the staff troubleshooting the A/C appeared to be having a serious conversation about The A/C, which made the situation feel uncomfortable. Lastly, our booking on Expedia mentioned a complimentary bottle of wine in the suite, which we never received—something I had been looking forward to after the delays. While we truly loved the ambiance and would have enjoyed staying longer, I left feeling disappointed that we weren’t able to take the photos I envisioned, especially given the reputation and rate of the property. - Heather (8/5): - It was a STUNNING hotel and the rooms are quite beautiful. We had a reservation at Nu Tulum and the food was exceptionally beautiful and delicious, as well as the service. Our first night, we really wanted rest and our room happened to be near the restaurant where a wedding was taking place. This was never mentioned in our booking and it was EXTREMELY loud til midnight. I did eventually call the front desk and they offered for us to move rooms (which I was too tired to do). The next night, they upgraded us to the beachfront side since it became available and we had wanted to book that originally. It was still very loud that night with another wedding, but not quite as loud. Just know that it may not be as quiet and relaxing as you think at night. However, the service is excellent, the people were so beautiful and wonderful. And the beach side was just an incredible view. We loved it. I would stay again, but not if I really needed a quiet night. 🙂 Just be aware. Still a 9.8/10.

We booked three massages during the week we were there and they were outsanding.

Exterior and interior designs are a masterpiece with a lot of tiny little details that you want to keep looking at and enjoy. Toiliteries are great and rooms have a very pleasant scent. Beach is clean, with comfortable beds. Overall stay at La Valise is relax and recharge for body and soul.

In the warmer months, I’d recommend the beach/garden side rooms. The jungle side rooms are great but the run warmer is summer months. There are a lot of dining options and experiences nearby.

The place is a beautiful and peaceful little pearl in the jungle close to restaurants and Tulum life, the view over the Caribbean Sea is stunning, the food is always delicious and the place and furnishing are giving a perfect Caribbean vibe. Huge thanks to Oscar, Eddie, Agustin, Anna and the whole team, you made the experience wonderful - we couldn’t ask for more. The greatest recommendation from Denmark. Nothing
- Terah (5/5): Average. Although, staff was great. - The staff was wonderful and accommodating. Bartender, waiters, security, concierge and manager, (Emily) were all exceptional. Beach was beautiful and peaceful. Food was good. Rooms/Units were designed and decorated nicely. Unfortunately, I had a couple of bats in my unit/room. I was able to catch the little one the first night of my stay with a bath hand towel and release it into the jungle behind my villa. I had another, larger bat in my room the second night of my stay. I contacted security to remove, as they did. I no longer felt comfortable in my unit/room. Security contacted (Emily), and they were able to help me move to another hotel across from La Valise. It was an inconvenience for me, but Emily, and the security were very kind trying to make me comfortable. The last night of our stay, my daughters unit/room had a foul smell. While, looking around the room, and going upstairs she found urine and feces from some sort of animal that entered from a hole in the ceiling. That was reported to the front desk as well.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Good not great but with amazing staff - First of all the property has amazing and friendly staff, very nice food and a super beautiful view on the beach from the breakfast place on the beach side. The room we booked had a very pretty bedroom and outside area with small pool, however the upstairs terrace looked down into dirty jungle (empty bottles and cans) and the area looked sad (2 dirty old hammocks and that’s it). All that wouldn’t have put me off but to get to your sink and toilet you had to leave the room through a door so the sink is outside in the heat with all the insects and the toilet had an open roof which resulted me finding a variety of scary insects. After one night we asked if they have any rooms with bathroom inside and OMG we got a huge upgrade thanks to the manager Nathalie. It was a beautiful outstanding suite which would have been perfect if the AC was stronger and the hotel was cleaner and in better condition in general.

Cons: The road to the property is not in the best condition, very narrow with lots of cars, bikes and pedestrians don’t is very chaotic. Lots of construction. Everything near the hotel is very expensive! $20 for a 5 min cab drive. $200 for restaurants so be prepared!

- Richard (9/5): A slice of paradise - The hotel was amazing. Set between the jungle and the beach it has plenty of space for guests to relax, eat and drink and always felt calm and exclusive. From start to finish the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was good quality and the hotel is a short walk to a number of great restaurants.

Excellent, walkable nearby restaurants. Pool water slightly musty. Beds a little too soft for those with back problems. ATM’s in area dispense only USD with high fees. No fatal problems.

- Christine (8/5): - This property is a small, boutique hotel but the level of service is above and beyond. The staff is so friendly, knows all of the guests names and make everyone feel so comfortable. Very quiet as the restaurant and beach areas are for guests only. And while very hot/humid in mid-May, the jungle pool is so beautiful and relaxing. Beware of the bugs on jungle side though. I recognize this couldn't be avoided but there are lots of grasshopper type bugs, moths, mosquitos and worst of all scorpions (which are apparently harmless). Peaceful to be amongst the trees, but my (irrational) fear of bugs made it so I couldn't really relax while sleeping. Some of the rooms on the jungle side have outdoor bathrooms which isn't appealing to me, especially in the middle of the night. Beachside in the future, that's for sure.

Value for money 0. Dont get so exited that the bed goes outside the room, the bed is not stable it keeps moving when you move on the other side of the bed during a sleep unbelievable!!!!!

- Kelvis (8/5): - The service, the cleanliness and the amenities were great. Eddy and Jesus which were our two butlers went above and beyond with everything we could have asked for. I can’t explain how comfortable me and my fiancée felt with their service. Now, I have to point that we had an inconvenience with Room #9 (jungle view). This particular room I assume is next to the kitchen. It was a nightmare with the noise from 6am up to 11pm. It was already one of the most expensive hotels from my options and the least I wanted to expect is a noisy room right next to the kitchen. Everything else satisfied my expectations from what I read on the reviews.

Beach area very picturesque, but would personally prefer to spend time by the pool. Loved the roll out bed, spent a very lovely morning lounging on the bed on the balcony! No request was too much. I would say drinks / food is a little pricey, but in the context of the Tulum hotel zone was actually pretty reasonable. And plenty of food / drinks options within walking distance. Would recommend.

The staff remember your names and are so happy and smiley! It’s like living in a luxury jungle. We specifically chose this hotel as it was the only one with consistent amazing reviews and it didn’t disappoint. It’s right at the end of the ‘strip’ so it’s lovely and quiet as we didn’t go to tulum for the ‘party’. ONE FOR THE LADIES - all hotels in tulum are run off generators so if you take your Dyson it won’t work 😂 check your voltage on the Dyson website as I looked a little like a cave man till the humidity broke

Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Special thank you to Ana at the reception, Oscar at the bar/restaurant and Miguel who was always greeted us with a smile on his face. Food at the hotel is also very good with several vegetarian options. We would definitely stay here again.

The food was delicious and the staff were super accommodating, polite and responsive. Raccoons were trying to get through the straw roof into my room and almost got there until I alerted the staff. A piece of cardboard was put up to block the hole, which was quite unsightly!

- Dominic (8/5): Sleek, minimalist and style beyond measure - First of all, the aesthetic of the hotel is absolutely perfect - perhaps the most stylish we’ve ever stayed at. Breakfast was great, as was the swimming pool in the jungle side of the hotel. The staff were also incredible and couldn’t do any more to make us feel looked after during our stay. We had quite a big 8 legged friend come to pay us a visit on our last morning (it is the jungle after all) and the manager came to our rescue and removed it by hand and managed to keep it alive! The beach bags are also to die for. Lovely hotel! I think it’s perhaps slightly overpriced, however the location demands a slight premium - it’s right in the heart of the hotel zone. However, this also means that you are right in the middle of throngs of tourists which, whilst great for some, we prefer a slightly more authentic experience - but that’s more of a knock on the area, rather than the hotel.

- Sandra (8/5): Great hotel, I highly recommend staying at La Valise if you want to chill and have a quiet time! - -Great staff, made some amazing recommendations for lunch and dinner and organised a great private driver to take us to the Tulum ruins and an amazing cenote. -Lovely big water jug in the room that was filled up regularly -Walking distance to some great restaurants -Fantastic clean beach, they clear the seaweed every morning and it was beautiful. -The sunrise from our room was incredible -Excellent WhatsApp service, they reply super fast -Lovely and quiet, no beach bar noise from anywhere which we loved -Really nice and friendly guests -I definitely recommend beach view rooms - the views are exceptional! -The towels in the room were very old and grey looking. They definitely need replacing, and were sub standard and not what is expected for a hotel like La Valise and a member of SLH. -Room could have done with a coffee machine and was a bit basic.

- Zoe (9/5): Gorgeous hotel - The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, we stayed in one of the cheaper garden rooms & I was a bit worried the room wouldn’t be that nice but it was perfect. Lovely outdoor bathroom, & plunge pool outside. V private & quiet. The hotel is located a bit further down from the big beach clubs so quiet at night. Beach is stunning, as is the pool. Staff will sort anything for you, all via whatsapp. A real 5* experience which was a relief as we had a few disappointments in Mexico. I was sad to learn all the hotels on the beach are powered by very big noisy generators, burning fossil fuels day and night. The road running behind the beach constantly smells polluted & I dread to think what their carbon footprint is. Would be amazing if the hotel installed some renewable energy to combat this. There is so much sun & wind on this beach that it wud be a genuine energy source.
