- Ines (10/5): - Vier kleine Bungalows verteilt in einem wunderschönen Garten mit tollem Pool und leckerem Frühstück. Super liebe Gastgeber, besser geht nicht.

- Maki (10/5): Beautiful hideout in the jungle - Wonderful private retreat in the most natural wild setting. Actually want to keep it a secret…!
Not for people who need a lot of service and big hotel facilities. Perfect for those who love nature, peace and luxurious seclusion.
Zwembad heel erg mooi. Ontbijt in de ochtend is een aanrader. Bungalows zijn perfect onderhouden, schoon en van alle gemakken voorzien. Genoeg mooie natuur en bezienswaardigheden in de omgeving om meerdere dagen jezelf te vermaken
- Carl (8/5): Very good -
- Sumi (10/5): If you can, go and stay! 😀👍 - Beautiful garden(village i can say), Cool swimming pool, delicious western style breakfast, and of course the place we stayed was perfectly wonderful. I feel really blessed that we could be this close to nature, listening birds chirping sound and gentle stream sound.
Most of all, the host is very generous and kind. Definitely recommendable to all of the world who travels to Chiang mai.
- TheWanderingSlurper (10/5): Paradise - With stunning architecture, lush gardens and interesting art, Mae Nai gardens provides a setting that is instantly relaxing. Accommodation is in the form of spacious, clean and secluded bungalows, with a communal (but very quiet) pool and breakfast area.
We loved sitting by the pool and wondering around the grounds. We also enjoyed exploring the local area, which is possible via bikes guests can borrow - there are lots of lovely local cafes and restaurants. The whole area felt extremely safe and welcoming.
Pop and Ian provide a nice, fresh breakfast of coffee (or tea), fruit and eggs (Thai breakfast is also available). Both are fantastic sources of information about the local area, and you really get the sense they want every guest to enjoy their time with them to the maximum.
We would highly recommend and will definitely return if we every have the opportunity.
- amywwww (10/5): Lush gardens, perfect pool, wonderful hosts - When you arrive at Mae Nai Gardens you feel instantly at ease thanks to the welcoming, professional and laid back nature of Ian and Pop, who do a wonderful job running the place. The bungalows are set in lush gardens and offer plenty of privacy.
The gorgeous swimming pool is one of the nicest I have ever swum in - a good size for having a proper swim, with plenty of comfortable loungers for sunbathing or reading in the shade of the palm trees.
Ian and Pop make wonderful hosts, providing guidance on how to get the most out of the local area.
Paradise!
- Joshua (10/5): Magical gardens, absolutely beautiful and affordable - Our villa was a comfy and well designed cottage with lots if space. The gardens are super beautiful and the salt water pool is stunning. The guys who run this place are very nice and went above and beyond to help make our stay pleasant. Highly recommend for anyone who wants a change from the Old City of Chaing Mai. The location seemed a little isolated out in the countryside, so you will need scooters / rental car to get around to restaurants. Not really a negative, just something to be aware of. The host is very helpful to get taxis etc and helped us get an airport taxi.
- nirupau2023 (10/5): Stunning accommodations in beautiful Maerim - We had the most wondrous six days of hospitality at this beautiful family run resort. Pop (and housekeeper Galita) took care of us like family and attended to every small detail, including making recommendations for a local masseuse.
Our living space was perfect. We stayed in the smaller of the four villas, the one bedroom villa built in the traditional Thai style - with stunning architecture - high ceilings and rafters 😍😍😍, wall to wall windows.
Beautiful decor, all around the property, the gardens are something to behold. It too cold for us to use the swimming pool but the area around a swimming pool has zen spa like tranquility. The breakfast served every day was delicious. We will return again.
- Tin (6/5): Pleasant -
- Gowrie25 (10/5): Good to be back - It’s been two years since I was last in Thailand, so it’s great to be back now that restrictions on tourists have eased.
Mae Nai Gardens has proved to be the ideal venue for a return trip - it’s in the countryside close to Mae Rim, Chiang Mai, and has beautiful tropical gardens with only a few villas which are attractive and well spaced - ideal for these difficult times.
There is also a welcome and secluded swimming pool, just the place to relax on a sunny afternoon.
Hosting has been friendly and relaxed. Pop, the owner, knows the area well and can recommend the best places to visit or to eat. In fact there are a couple of good restaurants within walking distance, although a car or motorcycle will extend your range of choice.
Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for an uncrowded location for relaxation and good times.
- Laylahazmi (10/5): What an amazing place and warmest hosts - We spent Christmas in Mae Nai Gardens, and what can I say it was lovely!! Ian and Pop are the warmest hosts and always super helpful with recommendations about what to do in Chiang Mai. The resort has the most fantastic gardens, the most beautiful pool and the comfy and super spacious apartments with very tranquil views.
We were very happy with our experience and we really hope to come back! It’s the ideal place to relax and enjoy the views! Thanks again, Cris and Layla!
- ruaridhh2020 (10/5): Ruaridh Hudson - I spent Christmas and New Year at Mai Nai Gardens and it was wonderful. The rooms are luxurious and the swimming pool is such a lovely place to relax and unwind. Ian and Pop are fantastic hosts, serving fab breakfasts each morning and providing great local knowledge - I highly recommend staying here!
- LEX156 (10/5): A hidden Oasis - I truly loved my stay here. The owners are warm and make sure you are comfortable and content. The gounds are stunning and help you really relax. Great pool! Delicious breakfast! Cute villas!I highly recommend if you are looking to get away from the city and just chill.
- Aedwards89 (10/5): Late review...but an experience that has stayed with me! - I stayed at Mae Nai gardens in Early October on my first visit to Chiang Mai, whilst I was doing a tour of Thailand. I was met with the most warmest welcome and tranquil serene location I have ever experienced. My few days there were the most relaxed i'd felt and was a little piece of haven during a busy trip. Ian and pop were gracious hosts and provided an amazing stay.
The gardens were stunning and a hive of nature across the beautiful grounds. I cannot recommend more if you want to find a departure from modern life and a space to relax.
I am so sorry this review is 9 months late! However I am most definitely planning to return soon.
- 168jt (10/5): Amazing secret apartment at Mae Nai Gardens - I'm a regular guest at Mae Nai Gardens and love to return here for its serene and calm garden atmosphere and its amazing pool, it really is the perfect oasis to disconnect from a busy lifestyle. Having tried a few of the garden houses I asked Pop, the owner, if he had any other acommodation available and to my surprise he showed me a very large contemporary 50m2+ apartment that forms part of the main building. The design is a complete departure from the garden villas with modern brushed concrete walls, tall ceilings and european architectural lighting but the traditional Thai furnishings and a plentiful of artworks and sculptures softens these harder surroundings to a tasteful and very comfortable living space with a personal and homey touch.
You enter a large private living room with a giant leather sofa in front of a huge modern tv so Netflixers will be happy campers here. It also has a fridge so you can keep your beverages and foods chilled. Following a small corridor you enter a large and bright bedroom with an office desk, wardrobe and a king size bed. The ensuite bathroom has a shower but no bathtub. Sliding doors from the bedroom opens up to an outdoor terrace, a nice place for your sunset gin and tonic.
As opposed to hotel rooms this suite genuinely has a home apartment feel with full privacy and day to day living functionality. There is no kitchen but given breakfast is served daily and lots of good eating options nearby its not an issue.
As mentioned this room is not available to book online but must be requested directly from Pop, I guess by email or calling him directly from their website.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- NavyFam2256 (10/5): Absolutely perfect - We will be back! - It’s not often that a family of five can find a place that welcomes them so warmly, has everything they need, has personal touches and is also within a decent price range! I almost don’t want to write this review for fear that this best kept secret will be out!
From the minute we checked in to Mae Nai Gardens (at the recommendation of dear friends) we were completely taken care of. Pop and Ian are the consummate hosts - they truly anticipate all of your needs. They had excellent recommendations for activities for our family, helped arrange transportation for us, and were simply super kind in helping us navigate Chiang Mai. We did plenty of exploring of the area, but coming back to the hotel felt like returning home. This is largely due to the peaceful grounds that are Impeccably maintained, and the location which is set in a hillside oasis. The pool is beautiful and my husband and I enjoyed a glass of wine or two by the pool in one of the gorgeous seating areas while our kids swam.
As for our accommodations - we stayed in a poolside villa with two bedrooms, two bath and a living area and lovely porch area. There was also a small kitchen which we could have used if we had wanted, which was stocked with water for us. We also were furnished a cot upon request and we could have had a crib if needed, both were available and the rooms were more than spacious enough.
I would highly recommend this hotel experience to anyone visiting the Chiang Mai area. You will not be disappointed! We feel that we have also gained friends in Pop and Ian and intend to stay in touch! Thank you to them both and our driver Mr. Cat for making our stay so memorable!
- 962mauricel (10/5): Tranqil and peaceful haven - After a long flight from London on arrival we discovered a haven of tranquillity at Mae Nai Gardens. We immediately felt relaxed which in no small part was down to the welcome we received from Ian. Our villa was excellent decorated tastefully in a traditional style in a private and beautiful garden setting. The photos on the website give you a taste of what to expect but nothing compares to being there in person. Our big mistake was only staying for two nights but with Ian and Pop sharing their experience and advice by email before we arrived meant we made the most of our time at Mae Nai, especially as they organised all our travel arrangements - airport transfers and local sightseeing with Mr Cat. As it was our first visit to Thailand, we were extremely fortunate that Ian and Pop joined us for dinner at local restaurants with Pop introducing us to Thai cuisine. We had two wonderful nights of good food, beer and great company and we feel we have made two new good friends.
Breakfast is excellent a great start to the day especially the eggs from their hen which you see wandering around the gardens and the delicious home-grown papaya.
Ian and Pop are excellent hosts, so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them as they do their utmost to make sure you have an enjoyable experience during your stay. We do regret not staying longer but after our fantastic experience we will definitely return when we next visit Thailand. If you are looking for peace and tranquillity in your own little haven but not too far from local attractions, Mae Nai Gardens is the place to be.
- Jeanett (8/5): Fantastiske omgivelser.
- cyssf2003 (8/5): Charming, traditional Thai cottages - We had two units, the more modern, standardized unit with two bedrooms and a kitchen for my daughter's family with kids and the smaller one bedroom cottage for me. All are un-airconditioned but still comfortable because of the screened windows and cross ventilation with the overhead fans. My more traditional cottage had bamboo mats, nearly full length screened windows and doors, and an outdoor porch with the kitchen sink and refrigerator. It was so charming we spent most of our time here when not sleeping. Anna and Jenna and kids loved the salt water pool. Ian and Pop were welcoming hosts and very helpful. I enjoyed talking with Pop about the history of Mae Nai Gardens and their split life between Thailand and Great Britain. The grounds are profusely landscaped with papayas, pompelo, banana and other trees, flowers with a lake and salt water pool. The main house where Ian and Pop live and where you have breakfast is a stunning wood and stone structure surrounded by art and a koi pond. They arranged a car to the airport for me at 4 am to catch a 6:50 am flight, and the driver was very reliable, waking me up at 3:30 when I overslept. This was such a welcome change from noisy air polluted Bangkok. I finally felt like I was in Thailand. Their restaurant recommendations were excellent. Only giving this 4 stars because the internet access was lost at a very inconvenient time (trying to arrange boarding passes for my flight and contact Tom in the California for my travel logistics (had a delayed connecting flight)). I was finally able to get my personal hotspot to work using my unlocked phone and SIM chip I bought in Thailand while waiting for Pop to return with his personal hotspot. Had I not been needing the internet so badly at this particular time the loss of internet would not have been such a negative. The other negative was the night before I had to leave there was loud pulsating music from some undetermined source that kept me awake until midnight despite ear plugs which was bad given my 3:30 wake up time the next morning. This was the only night where I heard this so don't know if this was very unusual. It seemed to be an anomaly because otherwise all you hear are birds including crowing roosters since you are in the countryside.
- TukOrapan (10/5): Fell in love - We fell in love with Mae Nai Gardens. We took the two bedrooms villa with Khun Pop and Khun Ian.
The villa is tastefully decorated, well fitted with quality amenities and is bright and airy. The beds were comfortable. The pool is nice and clean with plenty of space to hang out even with other guests were there.
The whole property is filled with interesting arts and sculptures and exotic and beautiful plants.
The hosts are kind and friendly with loads of interesting conversations and tips.
Breakfast was generous and coffee was good.
Would love to go back again ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- JochenG_13 (10/5): Second Visit - Equally Great - Returning after some six years, the area has developed quite a bit (more restaurants and hotels), and Mae Nai Gardens is still the same beautiful hidden gem near Chiang Mai. We will definitely include it in our future Thailand tours. A big Thank You to our terrific hosts, Ian and Pop, who have not only been most kind and welcoming but also very helpful in terms of practical advice.
- 158mandeepk (10/5): A lovingly tended tropical garden oasis. A gem of a place with exceptionally kind hosts. - You cannot help falling in love with this beautiful treasure of a place at first sight. Ian and Pop have clearly put their heart and soul in to it. The tropical gardens are immaculately kept, the lovely quaint villas are all unique in their own way and the pool is a secluded little paradise.
Ian and Pop are super friendly, caring hosts with lots of helpful advice. They go out of their way to help and make sure you have a wonderful stay. They became my instant buddies, sharing coffees and beers, taking me out for dinner and introducing me to some of the finest Thai cuisine I have ever eaten.
The location is perfect for exploring Mae Rim and the surrounding areas. Pop kindly organised a motorbike for me and off I went, stopping at some of the multitude of restaurants, coffee houses and scenic stops he recommended. He is a keen hiker so even offered to take me hiking one day but unfortunately my stay was too short to take him up on it.
My villa was clean, quiet, cosy and comfortable. I slept like a baby.
This is a place to relax, unwind and rejuvenate. I can definitely see myself coming back for a much longer stay next time.
I miss it already and my kind friends.
- 740octavioa (10/5): By far, the best place to stay in Chiang Mai - I spent more than 2 weeks in Mae Nai and I felt I needed at least another 3 weeks to enjoy everything that Pop and Ian had to offer. The place is a beautiful well decorated refugee in the middle of the “thai jungle”. An awesome pool and service ( provided by the owners!). They always looked happy when sharing ( breakfast, dinner, biking, riding, etc). Pop became a very good friend. We went hiking together, he showed me around, he drove me to town and he personally showed me around. He is a great guide! Ian helped me with my plain tickets, cancellations and phone calls! (He offered his Ipad to make international calls). I would absolutely come back. Mae Nai gardens is a clear 10!
Congrats!!!!
- laurenlR1751GY (10/5): Highlight of our Thailand Trip - Mae Nai Gardens is an incredible, secluded B&B. It is truly a hidden gem in the Chiang Mai region. The accommodations were fantastic and made us feel as if we were staying at our own private resort. The hosts, Pop & Ian, are the definitions of hospitality. They arranged to have a scooter waiting at our villa when we arrived so we could start adventuring right away, were always available to answer questions, and provided great recommendations. We happened to be visiting during Loy Krathong and Pop offered to take us into the city to experience the festival and true Thai culture. I would recommend Pop & Ian’s place without hesitation!
- 874milesz (10/5): Best Place to Escape! - I recently stayed here for 2 nights needing a few days away from crazy Bangkok city, with no real expectations of a 'holiday' I just wanted to relax and recharge. And wow, Mae Nai Gardens really is a place for a much needed haven! The hosts delivered the best hospitality I've ever received as they really do care about their guests and sanctuary. The gardens, pool and native sounds are so refreshening and my stay was nothing but laughs, relaxation, peaceful sleep and new friends made. I'll be back for sure!! xx
- 994fays (10/5): Relaxing before the Christmas festivities - Mae Nai Gardens was the perfect place to get away from all the commercial business of Christmas. Beautiful surroundings and two wonderful hosts who made our stay so comfortable. Pop and Ian introduced us to some local restaurants close by where we sampled a variety of delicious Thai food. We made good use of the swimming pool after hiking in the nearby mountains or cycling through the many rice fields that surround the resort. Looking forward to returning in the not too distant future.
- ArabOnTravel (10/5): Charming Villa in Beautiful Garden - We stayed at Mae Nai Gardens for four days in December and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Ian and Pop are great hosts and it feels more like a homestay than a hotel. Both, the villas and the gardens, are nicely appointed. You have lots of room and privacy and we enjoyed our evenings on the terrace. For breakfast, we had fresh papaya from their own gardens and always some good advice on where to spend the day or have dinner4. We'll definitely come back at our next Thailand vacation. Thank you for a great holiday.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Slice of Paradise - Incredible place here! The gardens are very impressive and diverse, pool is beautiful, breakfast at the main house is great. Art is spread throughout the property in a quirky yet tasteful way, really loved it. Area is very calm and beautiful, but best to have your own transport. Grab also works quickly though. The hosts are very thoughtful, and the whole experience was perfect, just what we needed. Will definitely stay here again!
